  1. My thoughts are this...I will attempt to the best of my ability, to avoid a scenario such as this. If I am attacked I will use anything available to avoid or counteract a confrontation. However I refuse to be anyone's victim. I will not go quietly or passively. Just my .02...

  2. Advice for younger people. Set up an automatic payroll deduction through your bank or Credit Union. The money is automatically taken out of you paycheck and deposited in a savings account every payday. You never see it, so you don't miss it. You very quickly adjust to living on what you actually bring home. Resist the urge to dip into that account unless absolutely necessary. Start small if need be. Say $20 per paycheck. Gradually increase the amount as income and time increase. I did this through the County Employee's Credit Union when I started working for Bartlett. When I retired I was putting $300 per paycheck in the account. More than once having that money stashed away saved my butt when sudden, unexpected expenses hit.

  3. Hi all, just letting some of the non reloaders in on what it cost me to load 150 rounds of .223 Hornady .55 gr. soft points. I have about $28.50 for these 150 rounds. I just looked on Ammoseek and .55 gr soft points are $1.00 each or $150 for this many. I know the primers are from 2007, bullets from 2009 and powder from that era also. So I made about $120 for a few hours in my reloading room. Not bragging mind you, just letting you know that if things ever calm down, put you in a good supply of components or loaded ammo and you will feel much better when you lay your head on your pillow at night. Stay safe guys.

  4. I have read all of the posts in this thread and my views are few. One can never fully plan for the unknown and the unknown is exactly what all Americans are facing. I have done all I can do to prepare for what I think might be the future. That is all I can do. I do believe it is mostly in GODS hands and I say my prayers every night asking GOD to protect America and everyone that is not trying to destroy it. I pray that GOD protects all my family and friends here from harm. I'm expecting the next few months to be a very bumpy ride and when the ride is over that once again we can begin making plans to rebuild what we have left of America to work with. I am expecting the Democrats to do everything legal and illegal to steal this election because they know they don't have a winning plan with an honest vote. They thought they would win in 2016 with a rigged election and they lost. It put them in a total meltdown and they set out to destroy Trump at all costs and they have failed in every case. If Trump does win I sincerely hope that a new House is seated with a Red House and Senate and no Pelosi and no Schumer. I think for the most part the American people have got a good look at what the Democrats have planned for America and it is not good. Lets get out and vote and get rid of them!!

  8. I had one 10/22 that I bought mainly for the receiver, and I put on a new stock and ultralight barrel and had the bolt and trigger worked over. I think bought another used one that came with two stocks, and I gave that one to my youngest son some years ago and still had one stock left over. But I may be misremembering; I've worked on a lot of guns over the years and keep finding parts turn up in various places.

  9. I'm not speaking for Erik but this snow ball of schitt was building long before his generation came along. Playing the system has become a career for many and has since before my generation. Politicians continuing to pass laws and present bills that give handouts to those that don't ( not can't) put into system, healthcare, welfare, etc, eventually breaks the system. This is the result of decades of that. I can give you a half dozen examples of people right now that DRAW from the dole more than a lot of people make in a year.

  10. I Have been doing a lot of research on HAM radio as of late. I’m going to be getting my license in the not too distant future. Get a programming cable and download the Chirp software(free) so you can program your units. Find out what channels the local emergency services use, assuming they aren’t already on digital trunk systems, and program those in if you want to listen to them. Also find out what channels the civilian emergency folks in the area use so you can utilize them in case of dire emergency. Regardless of how you program them, even if you program them for FRS or MURS channels, it is illegal for you to hit the transmit button without a license. They transmit at a power level you are required to have a license to operate.

  12. This question has come up before. Often the answer is often “drive away”. Well, that’s common sense, so I assume people are asking about when you can’t drive away, without running over people. Every situation will be different. The bottom line is, would a reasonable person believe you were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. Surrounding your car and yelling at you, would not meet that criteria. Someone approaching your car with a gun in their hand, someone threatening you while carrying a rifle or someone breaching your vehicle and trying to grab you, would. However keep in mind that in these situation, even if you are obviously justified, if you happen to get one of these liberal far left DA’s on the case, the chances are very good you are going to trial. There will probably be very little, if any, video of what happened prior, but there will be plenty of video of you running over people. We are now living in a time where in some areas of the country, to some politicians, protecting violent criminal thugs is more important than protecting innocent citizens. I would think that one of the biggest factors to a jury in a questionable case would be “why were you there?” Sure, there could be a situation where you would have to drive through a riot. That shouldn’t be a factor in applying the deadly force laws; but I suspect it would be. Getting a conviction would be hard for a DA that has run amuck in a case like this. You only need one juror to believe you were justified. But that doesn’t mean that DA won’t use his office to financially destroy you.

  13. Well said Trip. You know what is odd, people from all over this planet are trying desperately to come into this great country and the little snowflakes and some movie stars are complaining and threatening to leave? Go figure. One thing I know fellows, God is in control and always will be. I never figured it would come to what we may see in a mere 49 days. Keep our country in your prayers, your head on a swivel and your loved ones within arms reach. Lock n' load you have it right, divide and conquer. That btw is the devil's tactic also. Single mom's raising kids, divide the family and it will fail. It was Khrushchev who said we will take over America without firing a shot. He may have been correct.

  14. I am placing this in the Survival and Preparedness forum for what I hope are somewhat obvious reasons. My question to you is, as the subject states, how concerned are you about mass civil unrest after the Presidential election in November? And I will add that if you are concerned, what are you doing now to address those concerns? My pessimistic prediction is that the Election will not be resolved on November 3rd. The push by the Democrats to use COVID-19 as the justification for an unprecedented use of mail-in ballots clearly telegraphs their plan to disrupt the Election. My personal opinion is that they will use every tool of dishonesty and corruption possible to bias the ballots toward Biden, either by discarding ballots for Trump or by falsifying a large quantity for Biden. They will attempt to hijack the electoral process and forcibly instate their candidate to bring an end to Making America Great Again. When this happens, there is a good chance that things will finally come unhinged. Or, Trump will win despite the Left's efforts to stop him, and the Left will do what it's already been doing this year and riot but on a much larger scale. Regardless of which occurs, I don't see peace and harmony occurring after November 2nd and I firmly believe that November to January could end up being the most dangerous time that our country has seen since the Civil War and I think people who haven't been planning for unrest by having supplies of food, medicines, sanitary essentials and, yes, ammo will be wishing they had. I of course hope that I am wrong, but I feel it is better to hope for the best and plan for the worst. So... what are you doing to prepare? It would be good to hear from folks who live in urban, suburban and rural areas alike since those environments could present their own unique challenges.

  20. Frequency listing... https://www.radioreference.com/ As stated, you can't pick up trunked radio, which most public safety systems are. Theres apps for listening to trunked radio or you can use the internet. To really do much more than listen to NOAA, you need a license. One of the kids in my son's scout pack and his dad got radios and licenses. They chat periodically, though the only plus over a phone is not requiring cell service.

  21. I think I was wrong on my terminology. What I meant to say was major medical. It was the type plan where you just paid for a doctor visit or er visit and meds. It paid for some major surgery, cancer, etc. That is how medical insurance was supposed to be.

  23. Family of 4 on 1 paycheck that I'd argue hasn't changed in 20 years. I make twice as much now as I did when I started 20 years ago. But everything costs twice as much... food, gas, housing, its all doubled. So I make the same money now as I did before I had a family, and we spend every penny. I freely admit I paid a bit too much for my house, though its just your average suburban house. We have old used cars, one of which will have to be replaced in the next few years and I have no idea where that money will come from. My only toy is a $1200 motorcycle that i got after selling the $3500 motorcycle i had before I got married. I dont think we'll be on the street, but this notion of living the high life with your feet up by the pool just ain't gonna happen.

  24. No one protesting that got a video that justifies his actions is going to come forward. If he is lucky a concerned citizen bystander might have got something on film. Otherwise this WILL be a VERY uphill battle for him. In addition to his employer dropping him, I foresee his car insurance doing it also. Every business he works with is going to make him a pariah. On the other side, when civil cases come forth, I am betting a well versed big time lawyer is supplied to the protester by unknown sources. In addition, we can look for much larger protests in this area to show opposition to him. Plus with the last few years, most police officers will be shy to stop the protesters for fear of being dismissed and seeing lawsuits themselves. They need a paycheck for their families too.

  25. That’s why I posted it, thanks for the info. As I suspected in the prior post, there is good video of him plowing over people, one story even said the dog managed to escape injury, along with claiming the person hit was a “photographer” instead of a protestor. But so far, none of what took place, or what the protestors were doing on his side of the vehicle. I have no idea if he was justified or not, but he’s arrested, charged, and his employer has cut ties. Luckily they allowed him to bond out quickly, that may have not happened somewhere else. Him and his family are in for a world of grief.

  29. Do you disagree with the ponzi description? Ido give the early investors credit for doing their part by having a crap ton of kids to support the system. Their kids didn’t. I guess I could have also described it the way that it is legally set up based on SCOTUS case law. Social Security and Medicare are each two individual programs. A general payroll tax and a welfare benefit. Yep I said it. Social Security is legally indistinguishable from welfare.

  30. What you are talking about isn’t the same thing as the old insurance plans. They are no longer available. I would like to disagree about saving for retirement. If one starts early, invests regularly, and stays with it, he doesn’t have to put up very much a month to retire a millionaire. Most folks do not have the discipline or foresight to do this.
    1 point
  31. Man you are not that old. It's never too late to start saving for retirement. Every so often there is a thread on reddit asking older people what they wish they had done differently. They number 1 answer is always "I wish I had saved more money". Number 2 is "I wish I had taken better care of my health". Sad how those 2 are directly related.

  34. When the 22 shortage hit a few years ago me and my teenage son seen the exact thing happen at walmart with them being on the phone posting them for sale immediately. So us both being night owls anyways would go there way early and spoil their fun buying the big bulk packs instead of them. We'd get off work at midnight, play games on the PlayStation or watch TV, head out at 6am and be sitting there watching Netflix on my phone, when they arrived grabbing chairs from sporting goods. We'd bag the buy then head home to sleep. They at first acted extremely annoyed that we were cutting into their business and tried to cut the line but the sporting goods manager knew what we were up to the first day after talking to us and shut that down hard. It became a fun game three times a week, over the next three weeks. They tried to one up us the second week and came in at 6:15 but we were already there, so we came in at 5 the next time and they came in at 6 and asked where they had been. We told them we was late due to stopping at the waffle house and was hoping they hadn't got there first. The annoyance to them and lesson to my son was worth the time, and the entertainment of their frustration was well worth it. It got to be more fun then watching TV etc just to screw them over. We ended up giving a bunch of it away at the time or selling at cost to people with kids.

  35. So they make $20 box per. My time is and gas is worth way more than 6 hours of labor for $20 and if retired, 6 hours is worth more than $20 Poor retirement planning? Tired of eating cat food? Jackoffs whose retirement revolves around the thrill of making $20 or taking advantage of folks? Sad and pitiful.

  38. Look at the statistic you quoted. Since 1973. How many of those were wrongfully convicted due to ancient forensic science techniques or corrupt policing in an era when "the good ole boy system" was still very much a thing? How many of those were wrongfully convicted in the last ten years with much more advanced forensics available, cell phone tracking to put a person at a place on a date and time, ubiquitous security cameras and other technological advancements involved to provide a more holistic sphere of "evidence" available? I'd bet not many. Besides, there are cases like this one where it is pretty cut and dried. Had this human predator not killed himself, there was enough evidence placing him at the scene of the crime and being guilty of those crimes that there would have been zero reason to allow the legal industry to drag it out in perpetuity. There should be cases that get an express-lane to a death penalty and state-administered execution of sentence. This is a good example of one of them.

  39. I think everybody needs to be watchful and armed to the teeth. We have simply not seen anything like this here in the US in modern times. As to " Trouble near us "... i have asked myself and orhers the same question. My thinkin (... notice i said " thinking "... which is a combination of hope, analysis, prayer, n experience...), is that " Red States " will stay relatively calm due to the to the law n order influence of " Red State State Government policies ". Blue States will more likely burn due to the same effect. It is my thinkin that the over-arching " Federalism " of US gubt is dead or so weak, it will never be " authoritarian " again. You simply will not see the US military escort kids to de-segregated schools anymore, like i did as a young person. Things are simply too polarized. I do not think that the federal gubt is gonna meddle in any law enforcement (.. Nor lack there of...) in any state... period. It's simply too risky. We have become a loose confederation of " Red " and " Blue " states, where law n order is either provided at the local or state level, or by vigilantism, which i expect to break out in both " Blue " and " Troubled Red " locations (... You know where they are...)... Like others here; im concerned that we seem to be returning to " Dodge City "; but ive come to believe that is exactly where we are. Like others have opined, im somewhat concerned about the effect on the overall economy, and our personal finances as the banking and financial systems sort this division out. We are no longer the " United States "... The "rights without responsibilities crowd of the 60's" and " the children of lower estate " have murdered it; along with plenty of help from the insider political class, and the ultra wealthy plutocracy we have allowed to run wild here in the US. We are now " armed birds of a feather flocking together "... We have no sense of unity. Our concern for our brothers largely depends on where he or she lives, along with our personal ties to them... It is, indeed, very sad and very dangerous. Sigh... sad leroy, the militant isolationist...

  40. Still agreeing. But you mention that most states have laws against politicians failing to act. Are the states that are in turmoil now have those laws? If so, who will enforce them by removing their leaders kicking and screaming in cuffs? The dem libtards that are enabling this crap seem to fear nothing. They could care less about us. They are letting it deteriorate and why? They think the rest of the country is going to bail their failed states out with federal funding? Hah! Not going to happen on Trumps watch. They hate Trump and that's their main goal. Destroy him and run over whomever gets in their way. The states that do not have this so called law, what are they doing? Same thing? They are showing their true colors. They never cared about the people. Only their worthless hides. Politicians do need term limits. They do need to be removed from office. By voting them out doesn't work and if it does, at the speed of snail crossing a great desert. When a governor or mayor fails to do their jobs, they need to be fired! Not recalled! Not voted out. I'm getting to old and broken for this crap. I just want things to go back to whatever use to be considered normal and left alone. a lot of us fall into my category but it doesn't mean we won't stand up and fight. We just hope we don't have to.

  41. We are as prepared as we can be and have been in this mode since the late 90's. I expect it will get even worse than it is now. We live out in the country with like minded neighbors so there is that. I think there will be a problem with supply of goods as well. I don't think there will be a riot problem out here but if goods and services are disrupted that could make it a whole new ballgame. I'm disgusted with half the people in this country and have more compassion for my dogs and treat them better than some scumbag that will try to take our stuff that we have worked so hard for. They say most countries only last a few hundred years and it breaks my heart to think we've fallen so fast since the greatest generation to the weak kneed fools of today.

  42. I’ve been talking about this with family friends and coworkers more lately in hopes they will better prepare. If Biden somehow wins I see it being a bit more of a slow burn on the fuse, maybe 2 years until enough see what direction things go and then civil war. If Trump wins I see it being almost instantaneous, with the far left reacting in widespread violent hysterics. Basically what we are already seeing in major cities but on steroids. I do think that Trump will feel a bit more emboldened to step in and handle it, which I am fine with if the local authorities won’t keep their people safe. Im not doing anything different. I think most of us on this forum have been ready for this for years. I would prefer this kickoff now while I’m still somewhat able to physically do something about it. I absolutely hate to think about the state of the country our children will be inheriting.

  43. Like you, I don’t expect the election to be decided right away. But I expect it to be decided shortly after January 3rd when the new congress is seated. I don’t see any way it can’t be. I also expect the mail in voting to be corrupt. But I suspect if that is proven it would also just send it to the Congress. I never thought we would be where we are now in my lifetime. I’m as prepared as I can be to protect my family and property. But not prepared for a lack of food. I doubt though the violence would last that long. Mother Nature could cause me to leave my property; but I’ll not leave due to civil unrest. Financially I’m Okay, but if Biden is elected and the economy takes a big hit, which I'm sure would happen; that could change. But to answer your question about being concerned. I’m very concerned that law enforcement is failing to act. And I blame them for that. And I never thought I would see that either.

  44. I do believe a situation similar to what you describe will play out. The old addage of Hard times create hard men, Hard men create good times, Good times create soft men, Soft men create hard times. is coming to fruition now. We have had good times for far too long in this cycle. I am woefully unprepared for this scenario if it manages to migrate itself into rural areas. I live out in the country but commute to LaVergne for work. Even if Nashville turned into the lawlessness that is Portland/Seattle, I don’t worry at home. It’s when I get closer to the population centers near my work, I become concerned. Everything is dependent on what happens in November. If anything but a clear win for Trump happens, I believe it will be like nothing we have ever seen before. Remember the issues at the Bush/Gore election from Florida ballots, it won’t blow over like that. I have food and water and the ability to keep it available via a garden, hunting, fishing. Shelter and security is also accounted for. I would like more guns and ammo (obviously) especially more combat oriented guns and gear. Just in case. Although I do carry whenever possible, inside Coffee County, I honestly don’t ever feel like I need it. Rutherford County is a whole ‘nother story, too many people in too small a space. Unfortunately, I’m not in a financial position to go out and buy a bunch of emergency supplies or combat arms. But I have ways to keep carrying on my day to day, so long as it doesn’t get to the point I need an AR just to safely go to the grocery store.
