TGO, I have made some changes to the forum this morning to address a few technical issues, fix some things that had caused complaints, and hopefully make the site a little easier to use. Rather than drag it out with a lengthy preamble, let's just get right down to it: LOOK AND FEEL Until I am able to get some problems resolved with the third-party "theme" (skin, format, look, whatever you want to call it) that we have been using, I have switched us to a very lightly customized version of the default forum software theme. I made this one, so if it sucks blame me for it, but this is as close to the default way that the software authors meant things to look as I can get it while still making it characteristically TGO. In my experience, the closer it is to "stock" with our software, the better and more correctly everything functions. Sadly this means that sexy, cool, handy little menu bar that always floated at the bottom of the screen on a mobile device is gone. If I can figure out how to emulate it, I will. If I can get the other theme fixed, I will. But some of you were having problems with the third-party theme looking like a jumbled mess while visiting TGO from certain types of mobile devices or computers with smaller screens and I think that this change will fix that. REARRANGED AND RENAMED I took the opportunity to move the furniture around on y'all a bit too. Yeah, I know that's probably cruel for some of you who are absolute creatures of habit, but the fact is some of the sub-forums on TGO could have been named, described or organized better back in the day. I like to think I'm just a little smarter now than I was back then. Anyway, hopefully the minor shuffling and renaming makes sense and helps promote better use of some really good areas of the community. HOWDY, ARMSLISTERS Finally, I wanted to give a special welcome to our new folks who have either discovered or rediscovered TGO because of recent changes to Armslist. I generally believe in The More, The Merrier and hope that you will enjoy your time here, find the community and knowledge represented in TGO very beneficial to you, and that you will help contribute to that community and knowledge by becoming active members. I do want to mention that we have some pretty simple and fair practices when it comes to buying, selling and trading on TGO. Following them isn't optional and ignorance of them is honestly pretty hard to accomplish given how many places we inform you about them when you join TGO. I mean, you literally have to willfully try to ignore them. We email them to you, we send them to you in a private message, and we post notices and links to them all over the place. Our policies for buying, selling and trading have served TGO well since 1997 and they are a fundamental reason why so many people here have come to prefer dealing with their fellow TGO members above all other options. The only way out, is through. No matter how much folks want there to be another way, there isn’t. We can’t go back to locking it all down again. The costs are too high. All we’ve accomplished with the lockdowns is the destruction of our economy. Folks are still going to get it, and they are still going to die. There’s no way around that. I think we are coming back full circle to what the original plan was, flattening the curve so that medical services are not overwhelmed. It’s time to stop lying to ourselves and accept the inevitable. The only way out is through.

The effectiveness of the lockdowns was only going to work as long as they remained in effect. Once they began to be lifted, what happened was always going to happen. We have a long history of being very bad at developing treatments for this type of virus. So anyone attempting to convince you of a vaccine being imminent is selling you a load of BS. The same BS that was sold to us about the lockdowns. Of course our fear let them shift the goalposts really fast. if you remember, they were initially sold to us under the idea of “flattening the curve” to allow medical services to not be overwhelmed and prepare for the mass amounts of sick and dying. When that didn’t happen, all of a sudden it was “we can stop it!” No, we can’t. We never could and to believe so is a fantasy. For the all of human existence disease has been a limiter of the population and only in the last century have we begun to be able to fight back against it. We’ve gotten too full of ourselves and too confident in our abilities. Every so often nature will remind us that we don’t know as much as we think we do. I’m all for taking measures to slow the spread to give medical services the time it needs to handle the load, but I’m not down with destroying the lives and livelihoods of millions upon millions in pursuit of an impossible goal. The only way out, is through.

Short answer in my opinion is inevitability. I believe there are two kinds of people. Those who’ve had COVID-19 and those who will get it.

I recently bought a set of Low Profile Walker Razor Electronic muffs because my others would get in the way of rifles and shotguns. They seem to work better, but I haven’t had a chance to use them much yet. And when I did, we were mostly shooting handguns. (Just in case that’s why you were looking at buds Leroy.)

Just saw this on a news blurb. Terrible loss for the lovers of Sir Sean Connery. I've been a huge fan since my first viewing of Dr. No. There has been no 007 for me and my wife since. She left before I saw it this morning, I guess I'm hoping that it will be heard on her radio. I really don't want to tell her this. she has idolized Sir Sean all her life. He was and is second only to John Wayne in her favorite actors. I have to say that The Man Who would Be King, and The Molly MaGuires would have to be my personal favorites of his working career. May you Rest in Peace, Sir Sean. You brought the world much happiness.

In the case of the M39's mentioned by the OP, as well as Classic's other page of M39's currently available, the answer is collectors. The $1200 rifles are Tikkas. These are the rarest of the M39's that (sometimes) come to market. From looking at the rifles listed in the ads, these are the later (1940's) Tikkas, had these been some of the even rarer 1920's dated Tikkas they would have sold quickly for this amount. The remainder of the M39's currently listed by Classic are SKY models, another relatively rare variant, as well as some of the harder to find dates of VKT's and Sako's. M39's got a lot more expensive a few years back when Classic bought the last of the Pat Burns hoard and did a marvelous job of marketing them, prices went up overnight by about 30-50% and have remained there since. Also, just as an FYI, there are far more expensive Finnish and Russian variants out there, I watched an M1907 carbine sell for $2800 on Gunbroker just last week - that's actually quite a bargain for one of those. Unfortunately all my "fun" money is going to another, more expensive hobby now ...

The ATF really has no power to legislate, which is what the people keep letting them do. The people enable this sort of thing by not firing the politicians that can actually affect the way the ATF functions. The whole thing is a sickening political Human Centipede. I wouldn't hold my breath on grandfathered anything from the ATF either. They could have made some money on tax stamps by turning "bump stocks" into an NFA item but didn't. They went straight for the kill on that and could likely do the same here. I've been predicting this for the past few years. Friends probably thought I was crazy or that it was far-fetched, but I've been repeatedly telling people that the way the government could really kill the modern sporting rifle is to declare it a non-transferrable NFA item. Within a few decades, few people would be left alive to legally own one. Within a generation or two, it'll be all over.

I am seeing a lot of masks everywhere I go. They seem to be the most effective tool we’ve got. 97,000 new cases today. 2500 of those folks are likely to be dead a month from now. Something to consider as the air gets colder and drier - and a respiratory virus will hang in the air a lot longer. Take a fool’s advice. If you want one, get one.....or a few. The supply will dry up and prices will skyrocket. I’ve seen this story play out too many times. I’ve yet to see prices decrease on milsurp guns of any persuasion.

I know exactly how you guys feel about this one. I've been on the short end of the state both as a seller and a prospective buyer more than once. It always reminds me that I need to be angry about the fact that we can't easily ship firearms to one another inside the same state. And it's not because it is illegal. It's NOT illegal at all. Rather it's because shipping carriers make it so damn difficult. I also have this theory that a lot of folks are either sitting on the guns they have, being selective about what they part with, or slow to sell when they fear that they might not be able to locate and buy whatever new thing has caught their attention. Face it, a lot of us sell guns in order to buy other guns. I hope and expect that this will change soon. It may be after the first of the year, but I think we'll see more variety on the secondary market. Unless Al Qeda Harris and Sniffy Joe win the election, and then it's going to be nuts.

I am not a collector and think a gun should be shot. I do understand pure collectors and completionist types who want these to go in their collection of 100 other minute variations. That is good for them, but for most people these are no better than the first Mosin Nagant I bought a few years ago in an aftermarket composite stock for less than $150. Same thing goes for some of the CMP stuff. It is cool and has history, but it is only really valuable for its collectability.

Just to piggy back on this. Don't live in the city. Commute into the city, fine, but don't live there. Most problems people run into when there is major civil unrest are a result of being crammed together with too many people. Have a plan to not be where the unrest is when the unrest is happening. If you live in a city and can't up and own a house in the country make a plan with freinds or family that do that you will be able to get out when things get bad. Best block.......don't be there. .

I don't understand this line of thinking. What you are advocating for is people stealing a service from a company that sells it. You might as well advocate for running an extension cord out your window and across to the neighbor's house and powering your refrigerator from the electricity they are paying for. It's the same idea. I am not a fan of Armslist because I prefer to do business with people on TGO. Doing business here provides a measure of security in the sense that I either know the person on the other side of the deal, or someone that I know does, or someone that I know and trust has done business with them before and made it through that deal alive and well. When newcomers join us, we generally all extend them the same courtesy of faith and trust at least once, and then they become part of the fold. It's worked very well since 1997. BUT... If for some reason we were to have to switch our model to limiting the ability for prospective buyers to contact a seller to folks who have paid for that ability, I'd really hope people would just play by the rules and not work around them. As was pointed out elsewhere, when you enter into that payment transaction with a site like Armslist, or even TGO, you are giving us a way to validate who you are. Armslist has long had a problem with scammers screwing over buyers. This MIGHT be their step toward fixing some of that by ensuring that they have a way to connect Internet-You to RealWorld-You in the case that you decide to engage in illegal activities. Whatever their reason is, it's their reason and their prerogative and their service. Don't steal it and don't advocate for others to make it easier for people to steal it.

In general terms, I do not expect the current retail climate to change much at all for the remainder of the year. The whole thing is rather complicated and multi-faceted. Ammunition: This is equal parts a supply issue, a demand issue and retailers taking advantage of the situation. Primers are in short supply, so there is already a constraint on availability at the component level. This naturally causes prices to increase at a wholesale level. Completed ammunition is increasingly in shorter supply, but I know for an absolute fact that you can still buy 9mm FMJ from the wholesale channel for around 22-cents per round because I recently brokered the sale of approximately 52,000 rounds of 9mm and 5.56 NATO ammunition for a small group of individuals. I could go on an absolute tear about this but I am going to refrain for now. Retailers who are charging exorbitant sums for 9mm FMJ should be taken note of and remembered when this settles. One caliber that I can attest to being much more expensive today than it was in February, at wholesale and retail pricing, is 300 Blackout. The price on that shiz is nuts. If you have it, I'd be sitting on it and not shooting it unless I had to right now. Black Rifle Parts: Whole, mass-produced AR-15 pattern rifles are still easy to come by thanks to the absolute glut of them that were produced over the last 10 years. Pricing on them hasn't changed a whole lot. Boutique rifles and component parts are a different story, and those go hand in hand anyway. I don't see this changing until after the election and maybe even beyond that. Supply needs to catch up to the demand. Manufacturers like Aero Precision, Bravo Company Machine, Rosco Manufacturing, Ballistic Advantage, Midwest Gun Works, etc. are all still releasing product albeit in small batches that get cleaned out almost immediately. You can thank social media for that. As soon as barrels, uppers, lowers, handguards, etc. hit these manufacturer's web stores or the web stores of the retail channel, it gets posted by the likes of MrGunsNGear on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. or it makes the headlines on Reddit and major national forums. People are cleaning-out supply as soon as it hits. And while I guess that's nice if it means that there are more armed citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights than ever ( aka "a rising tide raises all ships") there is a pessimistic side of me that thinks there are a lot of parts that will never be used sitting in personal caches. I hope I am wrong. Handguns: You can still buy pretty much any handgun you want right now, but in some cases you may have to wait a few weeks to find the exact variation you are searching for. Also, this is legitimately the only time that I can remember wherein Glocks were seriously selling for MSRP. Nine or ten months ago, at the very most, you could buy a new Gen 5 Glock 19 for $525. These days you're probably going to pay closer to $600 and you might have to wait while your local retailer orders it for you from Lipseys, RSR, Sports South, etc. I blame this entirely on the number of people who are buying handguns to protect themselves for the first time ever because of the current political and social climate and social turmoil. I hope that those people (a.) get training, (b.) own them responsibly, and (c.) keep them beyond 2021 and become advocates for the 2A now that they understand why it matters. I am obviously glazing over other areas of the gun industry right now, but these are the things most people are noticing the effects of and maybe wondering what the hell is driving it all. The ammunition and shortage of AR parts are the things that annoy me the most, presently, for the reasons I mentioned.

More people are staying inside due to the weather. Common sense tells me that will cause the numbers to rise. What they do with the numbers or how they do it has zero impact on my health. Do I think Covid is real and it can kill me? Of course. So I take the necessary precautions. I wear a mask when I go out and use hand sanitizer after I have handled something that could possibly have the virus on it. Do I think that will keep me from getting the virus? Nope, but it could reduce my chances. Do I think anything can be done by the government (no matter which side is in charge)? Nope, other than fast tracking a vaccine and throwing money at the companies that are working on it. But the government should not be telling businesses they can’t open. Homicide, suicide, domestic violence, and violent crimes that occur when income is shut off is as real as Covid.

Haha - thanks! The PCR has the full-blown CGW pro kit (good eye with the race hammer!), plus 10x bushing and barrel crown with Dawson sights. It is super sweet and very accurate. The 75 is a Shadowline, fully stock (except grips). These came hot-rodded from the factory with no firing pin block, 85C trigger shoe and trigger/hammer upgrades. I haven't found the need to do anything else with it.

Conspiracy Theories, Coronavirus, TGO and YOU For as long as I can remember, TGO has never really provided "safe waters" for people who want to preach conspiracy theories and rile-up the masses. There are plenty of places for that sort of thing on the Internet and yes sometimes the conspiracy enthusiasts (or nuts, if you so prefer) are proven right in the end. But since there are so many other places for it and since we feel that the ravings of fringe believers tends to bring down the property value, we prefer that our members engage in discussions based in reality. Lately the moderators have begun removing posts fanning the flames of conspiracy around the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic. Generally speaking, I am supportive of their actions. Here's why: Priorities First and foremost, we have a present problem to deal with so let's start by putting our focus there. We have members who are and have been personally affected by COVID-19 and chances are this is just the beginning. If we are going to invest our mental and emotional energies into something, let's invest them in encouraging, supporting and helping our own community. Respect Again, we know that we already have members of TGO affected by this pandemic. So far they (and we) have been fortunate and it's turned out well. That could change. We don't want that to happen, but the statistical projections indicate that by the time the dust settles none of us will have many degrees of separation from someone that died as a result of the virus. I just think maybe it's a little disrespectful to the people currently fighting this virus and eventually to those who lose the battle for us to sit around and imagineer boogeymen behind a virus that science currently says evolved naturally. Stay In Your Lane, Bro Following right in behind the matter of respect is the simple fact that unless you're an educated, degreed, certified ass-kicking virologist, geneticist, research scientist, or have data from a respected source that is... you should probably stay in your lane. Remember the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020? That happened because social media said there was a shortage of toilet paper. So the people believed it, reacted like scared sheep, and ran right over the edge of the cliff with arms full of Charmin. There's no reason for us to allow the next big social media fear-fest to start with or take root on TGO. We can control what happens here, so our intent is to manage it so that there's at least one place you can visit online that doesn't feel like the lunatics are running the asylum. You're welcome for that. Even if you don't appreciate it right now. And So What If That Conspiracy Theory Is Accurate? The President, love him or hate him, has already said that there are going to be consequences on the other side of this current situation for the way that China mishandled this. Even if they didn't bio-engineer it, their government hid the outbreak from the world until it was busting out of their borders. So far the Prez has done everything he's said he would do... right or wrong... so we can be pretty confident that the US isn't going to just let this slide. So, even if the latest conspiracy theory is accurate... you and I can't do a thing about it. Establishing and maintaining a military to preserve our sovereignty, the strength of our borders, and the security of our interests is the one thing that the government should be doing. It's maybe the only reason the government should exist if you ask some. But they are equipped to do something about it. Not us. Not even Chuck Norris. Let's let the government handle the boogeyman. And if they need our input on that, there will be an appropriate time to tell our elected representatives what we'd like to see done. And I'm sure that our actual scientists will be following up on all credible leads that help them expedite a treatment or vaccine for COVID-19. So if that takes them back to a secret lair somewhere in Communist China where they're having unprotected sex with bats while eating live frogs... so be it. In the meantime, let's stay grounded in reality here. It's scary enough and it requires our full attention.
