  1. Update. Lisa is doing fairly well, she has a mild strain. I got the worst available. Add pneumonia, and the challenge increases. I'm improving, but my lungs are being slow because of the severity. I will be fine!! It's just a longer harder uphill battle. I could possibly be in here 14 days.

  4. I am reading a book by Dave Spaulding, "Handgun Combatives". In most books trainers talk about thugs can pick an easy target by the subtle ques one sends froth from the manner they carry themselves and they way they appear to others in public. Well! I just realized that body language reading also works the other way. Give you an example. When I was perused in my own front yard, while going to the mail box a few years back by 3 thugs driving down our road, one of them read my body language. Edited to add: Furtive Movements As I squared up to the first thugs continued advance toward me, after being told not too, the second pursuer read my intent and stopped in his tracks. Loudly told the other, "it ain't worth getting shot over." Then the first guy stopped his advance. I perceived that they were coming at me in a very hurried pace. What he read was, when he reached that 28 to 30' line, (I am oLd and slow)I had set in my mind that I was going to react, I dropped the mail, I slumped, crouching forward, run my hand quickly in my pocket, set my feet, and dropped my head in a fighting stance, another follower, of the 3, read my intent that I was preparing to fight, then he/they quickly decided they wanted no part of me. He told the other guy to discontinue his aggression and he did. I just realized this happened after reading this book. That thug surely read my body language, and backed down, just as I had read theirs. Now I am not bragging, but was totally glad that the incident ended, with me just being cussed at, by them, and me not being beat to within a inch of my life on that day. They all slowly retreated to their truck, entered it, all the while cursing me. When I got the chance, I beat feted it to my front porch, and collapsed in the front porch swing with knees of jelly. Thanked God my morning was not painful or deadly. I had no doubt that was what they had intended to do to me. I read the aggressor's body language. Matter of fact, I am convinced they were the ones that almost beat one of my neighbors to a pulp later on that morning. He was doing the same thing as me, except he was 84 and legally blind, but had a little peripheral vision. His son told me he never really recovered after the beating and robbery. Poor guy died 3 weeks later. Since he didn't die shortly after the severe beating they said he died of old age. Makes the crime stats look better for the county. That body language reading goes both ways, guys. Trainers have been beating that into our heads, for sure, for years. I was a little naïve in thinking I could continue to go to my mail box, as I had previously done for 30 years, IN This Day-In-Time. Almost paid a big price for being naïve guys. I post this here so some of you young guys can learn from my experience. Many older guys here have traveled miles down this path. Dave said, "If you look like meat, they will most likely eat."

  11. Don’t have a 300H&H but do have a 375 H&H in a Winchester 70. It is a thumper. if the ballistics are similar to a 300 win mag or 300 Weatherby I think it would be a fun gun to have.

  19. Wonderful news, at least that you are improving. Thankful Lisa is a well as this sounds. For you...fight and believe! That is some strong medicine in itself. I never let myself believe I was not surviving the cancer. I tried being upbeat and cheerful as much as I possibly could. It is important. On the pneumonia front. I've had 2 bouts of it, and you're right; it is no fun. I assume that you've been given those breathing exercises. Do Them! It is key to recovery and strengthen your lungs. Continuing prayers for you, my friend. I need you around to harass over our CZ episodes.

  20. Not to rub it in, but I hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim with a 70 year old leukemia survivor several years ago. He and his wife have hiked several 14ers since. I feel like age is just a number and the actual number is a lot less important than the wear and tear and accumulation of injuries along the way.

  26. I don’t know much about FIGHTBACK, or GIVESENDGO, but they are taking donations for Kyles defense fund. Of course the MSM doesn’t cover this, so its hard to tell who they are, or who “Friends Of The Rittenhouse Family, Atlanta, Ga” is. GOFUNDME wouldn’t allow a webpage for a Kyle defense fund. So much for innocent until proven guilty. I’ve sent money to GOFUNDME; but never again. Of course they don’t care; they aren’t taking the loss; the people that need their site are. But if those sites are legit, it looks like they are making their goals.

  28. Before staking in a sight make sure the inside area where the tendon comes threw has an adequate relief pocket for the tendon to be peaned out to. I used to add a little epoxy to the tendon because you cant all ways get a perfect pean spread to go 360% around in the relief. So where the peen is not full, the epoxy fills whatever the tiny gap under it.

  30. I think folks are getting fed up with all this. Videos and photos posted on social media late Saturday in California showed a strong turnout for what was billed as a "Curfew Breakers" protest against Gov. Gavin Newsom's latest coronavirus mitigation orders. Images showed demonstrators -- many with American flags or Trump 2020 flags -- reveling in what seemed like a New Year's Eve-style celebration. Passing vehicles could be heard honking in support. At a simultaneous rally in San Clemente, Calif., demonstrators were seen gathered around a fire, with members of the crowd tossing protective face coverings into the flames. "Burn that mask! Burn that mask!" crowd members were heard shouting. After Newsom issued his order, several California sheriffs said they had no plans to enforce the curfew. "We've got a lot of things to do, including taking guns away from gang members, stopping narcotic trafficking, and saving children from internet predators," Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said during a video briefing Thursday afternoon, according to Fresno’s FOX 26. “We’re not gonna make criminals of normally law-abiding citizens.” https://www.foxnews.com/us/huntington-beach-protest-expected-against-californias-coronavirus-curfew

  31. Its not difficult at all, but you do need to know what you're doing and have the proper tool. First you need the correct type sight. They come in two sizes of tenons. That's the part (pin) that actually goes through the slide and gets staked. There's a narrow (early) and a wide (later) version. Looking at your gun, I'd say your's will take the narrow version. As noted in the video, you need a solid surface to put the slide on to the support the blade. Too soft will result in a loose sight. Too hard may damage or scratch the new sight. I use an old piece of aluminum road sign. I also find it very helpful to clamp the slide to the work table to keep it stable and secure. Once everything is in place and using the proper tool, its just a matter of giving it a couple of sharp blows. Honestly, if your gunsmith will, he can do this while you wait and it shouldn't cost much. However, many gunsmiths will put you in the waiting line and it could be weeks to get this 5 minute job done.

  32. Been loading for over 50 years. Great past time. Good way to get away from the pressures from work and the way my wife greeted me at the door coming home, " Do you know what your boys did today!" Started out with a RCBS rock chucker press and added on from there. I now still load on it and Dillon 650. Got 14 different die sets for that and maybe half that many that I still load on my rock chucker. Started casting my own bullets a couple years into loading. I now have 15-20 sets of 4 cavity Lyman molds a real nice sizing machine. It's been a great hobby for a lot of years. Sure kept my out of the poor house shooting practical pistol.

  37. So.......you want to be hooked on reloading and casting I don't know which addiction is worse.
    1 point
  38. I got into reloading several yrs ago. It’s addiction worse than guns. I bought supplies and when the 22 shortage happened, I bought more. While I see srp for stupid prices, I can go load for days upon days. Had a friend stop by and ask if I reload... yes. Carried him in and he freaked out on how much I can load. Wanted to buy some and got a big nope because I don’t have ffl to produce and sell. I’m looking into casting now just because I think I need to.

  39. That doesn’t look right, especially if is causing a drag on the hammer. I only have one with the lock but have never locked it. For one I don’t have they key and another I wouldn’t even if I did. You might have to send it back or just remove the thing.

  40. I’ve been purchasing guns for a long time, and I’ve never had to send one back for warranty work until recently. I wanted to install a Surefire flash hider on my Springfield Armory 300BO pistol. When my gunsmith removed the original flash hider we found the threads were galled and the crush washer looked like it had been welded to the barrel. My second issue was with my Sig P365XL optics ready NRA edition. The screws that hold the optic cover in place were stripped and almost installed sideways. I contacted Springfield and they sent out a return label while we were on the phone, and I had my pistol back in about ten days. Same for the Sig. They sent a return label while we were on the phone, and I got my slide back in four days. Great customer service from both companies. I had heard so many horror stories about service returns and wait times that I never wanted to send a gun in for warranty work. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I just wanted to share some good news.

  44. Swiss rifles were certainly well-made, and generally the individuals who were issued these guns maintained them well. However one factor to remember, none of them were ever used in combat, thus the percentage of "nice" rifles is correspondingly higher among Swiss rifles than those of other nations from the same era who were busily involved using their issued rifles to attempt to wipe out their neighbors ...
