  1. After 3 surgeries and nothing left to work with in there, I’m having a knee replaced. Thursday is the day. Prayers appreciated. Successful surgery and no COVID picked up by wifey and I.

  2. Have you guys/gals noticed this ? It's called Uptalking. It mainly seems to be the younger generation doing it. For the last 2 years I have noticed people talking and how their sentences sound like questions. For example "The dog ran fast" . That is a regular sentence. These younger people will say the same sentence and when they get to the end of the sentence their voice will get higher and pronounce the last part in a higher tone of voice like you would a question. So it sounds like " The dog ran fast ? " . It's gotten to where I cant stand to hear people talk like that. It makes them sound unsure of themselves when they talk and also like everything they say is a question. Maybe I'm just getting older but hearing this style of speaking is like fingernails on a chalk board to me.

  3. I'm going to give my testimony. I've always been a little bi(det)-curious. But as a confident heterosexual male, I was skeptical about anything nearing my no-no hole. The stink star just isn't something that I want penetrated and having high pressure water aimed that direction seemed a good way to get violated. And it's not like there are an abundance of bumguns out in the world for the general public to inspect or even try. So I stayed in the dark, unaware of the clean feeling that my chocolate faucet was missing out on. Earlier this year my elderly mother had a UTI that traveled up into her kidneys and nearly killed her by means of sepsis. After she was discharged from the hospital she was given a followup appointment at a local urologist. I took a long lunch and picked her up from the house and delivered her to her appointment. Because of Covid, I stayed in the car. After a while, it became apparent that she was still in her appointment and unable to answer the phone (they were doing a biopsy of something) and I was about fill my pants with some form of poop demon. I could no longer afford to wait on her and hope that we made it back to the house. This was happening where I was whether it was in the car or hopefully I could make it into the doc's office. After waiting on the counter staff in the office for what seemed an eternity, I made it into the bathroom just in time to get hovered before all hell broke loose. After exorcizing my demons, I noted that my butt cheeks had gotten rather warm. After reading some of the wall plaques and doing a quick google, I discovered that I was sitting on a $1500 bidet seat. It was full featured with all of the bells and whistles. It was a heated seat. It has adjustable power front and rear washes with adjustable temperature control. It even has a blow dryer built in for the grand finale. Well, it's not every day that you sit down on a 1500 dollar toilet seat so who am I to pass up the opportunity to live like the wealthy? I was blown away. I grabbed a piece of peasant paper and took a single pass at my sin socket and found it to be not only completely clean but completely dry. I stood up with a balloon knot that had been cleaned and dried in luxury in a way that nothing short of an after poo shower can provide. I buckled up my belt and left that bathroom with my head held high. I immediately started googling bidets. But knowing that I can't afford a 1500 dollar toilet seat, I looked to more economical units. Within a week, I had my own installed at the house for under 70 bucks. While it doesn't have the heated seat or the blow dryer, it's been quite the workhorse for me. I've spent every moment since trying to ensure that I only poo at home, although installing a bidet at work is on the horizon. I preach the gospel of the shiny hiney whenever and wherever I can. Do yourselves a favor gentlemen, install a bidet!

  4. Death is a natural part of life. We may not like it but will all experience it in time. All the animals and fauna will die eventually. "Death is a subject many do not want to discuss." Some fear death. Death is the point where one's spirit leaves this tent, where it exit here on earth (our body), then our soul spirit enters the Hadean Realm (the realm of departed spirits) and eventually the spirit returns to God who gave it in the first place. The body (tent where the spirit exist on earth) is placed in the ground and returns to dust which God used to form our bodies in the beginning of mankind. One can confirm this in the pages of the Holy Bible, which is Gods word to mankind, and in written form. King James had the Bible translated and put into written form many centuries ago. We can all benefit by reading a good translation. We are blessed to have it in this day in time. Matter of fact, one does not need to fear death. One can prepare for death. That is the key to not fearing death. Guys it is going to come. Death to some people, those who prepared beforehand, will be something looked forward too. The Bible tells one heaven is a wonderful place to spend eternity with God and Christ sitting at His right hand. I don't say this callously because death, is separation and it brings great grief and pain to our families, loved ones, and friends who are left behind here in this realm. Those who are left, in this realm, can take comfort in the fact they they can go to the one who had died and gone into the next realm. You can read what King David said after he lost his son he had with Bathsheba, in (2nd Samuel 12:15-23) in your Bible. It is comforting to know one can go to the departed providing we prepare for it. The key to deal with death is to prepare yourself for it before one reaches the end. I know this is a gun blog and death is not a pleasant subject, but we will all face it sooner or later. Why I put this in General Discussion. I have a friend who is haunted by those he killed in war. I told him they had the same chance to prepare themselves as he did, before they met their death in War. Not a good/pleasant subject to discuss, but a needed one in the days of Coved and after.

  5. So tonight I was driving to winchester. There was a traffic holdup a few cars ahead of me & it turned out a lady had hit a deer. It was still very alive & bawling, trying to get off the road. 4 or 5 folk were stood around doing nothing. I had a rifle with me, so after moving everyone back & checking for a safe direction, I put her out of her misery. Obviously, I was also stopped in the road, so I loaded her in my truck, drove a couple of miles & called Winchester police to let them know what had happened & what i'd done. The lady I spoke to seemed unconcerned, but told me she'd log it, just in case. I feel like I did the morally & ethically correct thing, but i'm concerned that there may be a legal repercussion. I didn't really consider the law, at the time, I was more concerned with ending her suffering. Do you think I could end up in trouble for discharging a firearm on a public road? This was way out in the country, by the way, not in any municipality or city limits, if that matters.

  7. There's a good chance you know someone who already has one of these, if so, borrow it. If not, get one. Pronto. Now. Without fail. Don't leave home without it. The "ice machine" is infinitely better cold therapy than ice packs, in my case it offered the only real comfort I got for several weeks after the surgery. Mine was on fairly constantly while I was home. I can't stress enough (if you can't already tell from earlier in this post) how important I think having one of these is. I too made the mistake initially of not obtaining one, I learned quickly how wrong I was once a friend loaned me the one his mother used. You say it's an extra $250, I say it's a bargain at $1000 ...

  8. When I was young, and first married and absolutely stupid about money, I asked my dad for advice on what I should be doing. Sadly, the only advise he had was to go get some life insurance. I did just that, but bought he wrong kind (Whole life, not Term) , and did nothing with investing. I had a 401k at work, but didn't really care to understand it. All I cared about was they were taking money out of my paycheck that I couldn't spend now. Around my early forties, I woke up and got interested in what I was doing financially. We took a Dave Ramsey class and that set us on a much better path. I read anything I could get my hands on, invested in some real estate and made much better choices with my 401k / IRA. I feel like we are in a much better place now, but cringe at how much better we could be if I had just been smarter early on. If I could go back in time and tell my younger self one thing, it would be to invest early, and be disciplined about doing it. If you are reading this and are in a similar boat as the young me, please, please, please take the time to evaluate your financial situation, get smarter and take action. The government will not be there to bail you out, and even if Social Security is still around, it will not be enough to live comfortably on. At the bare minimum, you should be putting enough into your 401k to meet the full employer match. You really should be putting in 10% of your own money, or 15% even better. I know it seems like you can't swing it, but you can. The older version of you will thank the today version, trust me. If you have 401k's from old employers, roll them all into one IRA. You'll get way better options to invest in from an IRA than you will in an employer 401k. Plus it's easy to do. Most Financial Advisors will do most of the work for you and all you have to do is sign a few papers. Once you have that IRA, anything over what it takes to get the 401k match from your employer, invest in the IRA. Again, you'll have better options and probably get better returns. If you have the option to do a ROTH 401k, take it. You'll pay the tax on the money you invest, but when you cash it in during retirement, no matter how much it has grown, it will be tax free. Same with an IRA, if you invest in one, make sure to do it ROTH style. THAT was the advise I wanted MY dad to give.

  9. I spent 23 years as a volunteer fireman / EMT, and I saw a lot of dead folks during that time, and even watched a few die. I'm with you, pop pop, death is just the price of admission. We're all going there eventually, the only question is when. Modern folks are insulated too much from death. Not too long ago people died at home with family around them. Now we ship dying folks off to a hospital or hospice and we don't see it happen as often.

  19. My "store bought knee" is 8 years old and has been a blessing. Surgery was done in October of 2012 and the following April I did a 100 mile bicycle ride. Since then I have logged just over 50,000 miles on the bike and on my last xray it showed no wear. I had a rented ice machine for a few days after going home which my insurance paid for if I remember correctly. you should check into that with your surgeon.

  23. I've been through 3 knee surgeries and 3 lower back surgeries as well, even so far as a 5 level fusion. The PT after TKR is, shall we say, a good bit more "intensive" than similar experiences after any of my prior surgeries. It may take longer than 2 weeks for the "intensity" to lessen, but it will, eventually. The use you get from the knee afterwards is directly related to how well you do the PT though, another lesson I learned "the hard way" ...

  24. Dad has had both of his done. I learned 3 things from his experience.... do the therapy, do the therapy, and don't ever stop doing the therapy. These things can be a little noisy, but they're great for keeping swelling down. https://www.amazon.com/Cryotherapy-Circulating-Personal-Universal-Inflammation/dp/B07G9K1J6K

  26. They make some great knees these days. Likely a far cry better than the one you’ve got. They’re going to get you up the same day to start PT. You’re going to hate them and their families for coming generations. But channel that hate into doing the PT religiously. You be back on the lake in no time. Prayers you’ll stay healthy.

  29. I just received the gun back from SDS. They said that there was definitely an issue with the magazine so they replaced it. Also, they said they changed out the barrel link. After doing all of that they test fired it and had no issues. I will hopefully be taking it out in the next week to test it and will let you know the final results. Also, SDS customer service was very good!

  35. Not a big deal. My old man lives in town. He called the game warden about deer eating his garden. The game warden gave him written permission to dispatch them. He even loaned him a game camera that texts pics to his phone. I think he shot four deer out of it this year. Not sure what the neighbors think of an 80 year old man in his drawers firing a shotgun in the middle of the night inside the city limits, but so far there's been no legal repercussions.

  44. Nobody forced those kids to take out those loans. The problem is that many of them wasted the money on worthless degrees that won't earn them a living. Think liberal arts. They just wanted to be in college to party and have fun not to actually work hard, study and learn. Now they're buried in debt and just want to whine about it. My oldest got a 2 year Associates Degree from State Tech in computer science. He now makes a good living at it. Most of his education costs came from grants. Yep, free money you don't have to pay back. You just gotta be smart enough to know where to apply for them.

  45. There is no evidence. Trump was an unpopular president and he lost. He should be proud of the fact that he got 70 million votes. I mean that. It's an impressive feat. He's been complaining about voter fraud all year and his base ran with it. It just didn't happen. Even Republican election officials in GA have said there is no evidence of fraud. It's over.
