  1. You have no duty to retreat. That is something different than thinking Castle Doctrine creates a free fire zone. If you walked in and found a burglar in your home, your Nest camera is running, or he is live streaming as some criminals do, and it records him throwing his hands in the air, surrendering, and telling you he is unarmed, don’t shoot. You kill him. You will enter the courtroom with the presumptions given you under Castle Doctrine. The prosecutor will then blow those presumptions out of the water. That’s just my opinion though. I guess its possible the state would allow you to execute a surrendering burglar. But since they won’t let you kill a fleeing burglar; I doubt it. But those are decisions everyone must make on their own. My own personal belief is that when a person is committing a forcible felony they should have no rights. And should be subject to being shot or killed by the victims or bystanders. Unfortunately most folks don’t agree. Especially when the offender is a friend, family member, or a child. Our founding Fathers were a bunch of tough old guys that are probably rolling over in their graves when they see their words being twisted to hold the rights of a criminal above those of the victims.

  2. Took the ole lady out to the range to shoot her Christmas present! I’d say she done pretty good for a first time pistol shooter! Couldn’t help but take my new FN 509 along for the ride. Shot surprisingly good with 115g reloads.

  5. In all the vastness of the Universe, to think that we are the only intelligent (?) life is the ultimate in human arrogance. Have other sentient species developed space travel to the point where they can visit here? I don't know. I kinda hope they are that much more advanced than we are. But then again, if they are intelligent, why would they want to speak to this bunch of idiots? I believe Earth is kinda like the Detroit of the galaxy. Everybody knows where it is, its just that nobody wants to come here unless they absolutely have to.

  7. Fun fact I learned. If you go out at night and hold your thumb up to the sky, the area that your thumb covers is 10,000 galaxies. To assume we are alone is silly.

  8. One of the best peices of advice I was ever given was "you can only take offense it can't be given to you" if someone says something that offends you then its your choice to take it to heart. God knows I've had to hold my tongue a few times knowing that I dont have anything to prove to anyone and that the offender is just a POS. That being said..... I don't expect everybody to share my sentiment.... if someone rattles off just right to the right person theyre gonna get their teeth adjusted eventually. But I digress.

  13. Had a strange car in our driveway last evening. Must have come in with lights off because where I sit I can see any car coming in after dark with lights on. I only noticed his tail lights leaving our drive. We have a neighborhood message board on Facebook and apparently others had visitors last evening also. One guy posted they were in his drive at 1:30 AM. none of us has a description of the vehicle. They were in our drive at 9:15 PM last evening. Been on the lookout tonight, but been quiet so far. Outside lights are on and all cars and truck locked. Also have doors locked and deadbolted. Will leave more lights on, than usual tonight. Be careful guys. Make sure everything is secure as possible.

  17. I've shot a metric buttload of X-Treme over the years as well. Great bullets imho. But, when the cost is $25.00/1000 less and they are actually available? Kind steers me in that direction LOL I have a K of X-Treme 147's loaded with AmSel and they are, hand's down, my favorite 9mm load. Very soft shooting and totally reliable rounds.

  23. Deer hunting I assume? The 56mm objective will require mounting it fairly high. Also, the scope is 15" inches long and weighs 25 oz. IMO, it's too much scope for that size rifle and that shooting distance. I would put a good 3-9 or 3.5-10 on it, probably a 40mm. The 40mm still allows for good light gathering at max magnification and also allows for a lower mount. 9x is plenty of magnification for deer hunting at 300 yards. A simple duplex style reticle on a .308 is all that's necessary for that distance if the shooter is even mediocre at estimating range.

  31. I watched a news special the other night about the Broken Juvenile Legal system and it is not broken. It is almost non-existent. Some Officers have arrested a Juvenile for possession of a stolen fire arm at 7PM and arrested him 4 hours later and he had another gun when they arrested him the second time. He was released at 7:30 to his mother and she said he never went in the house but took off soon as she stopped her car at home. The police said that the system is just a swinging door. The singer that was killed during a car hijacking was shot by a 13 year old that had 5 prior arrests with 3 of them for stolen gun violations during the commission of a felony armed robbery. He was arrested with 3 friends for the murder and he is the only one still locked up and his mother said she hopes they try him as an adult and he gets a long prison sentence. During the report it was said that the zip code for north Nashville and Madison area has more juvenile arrests than any other place in America. Now with that said, if an officer shoots and kills one during the commission of a crime they want to hang the officer for doing his job!!! They asked one officer if he had any idea how to fix the problem and he said yes, just 1. Pass a law the permitted people the right to use deadly legal force to protect their property without fear of prosecution and it would take a short time and you would begin to see the numbers go down pretty quick. He said until you put some fear in these young people that they can be killed by the property owner they will continue to do as they please because they don't fear being arrested.

  32. I believe you're wrong (though I am no scholar of constitutional law.) The Supreme Court has ruled that "fighting words" are NOT protected by the 1st Amendment: "Fighting words are, as first defined by the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) in Chaplinsky v New Hampshire, 315 U.S. 568 (1942), words which "by their very utterance, inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace. It has been well observed that such utterances are no essential part of any exposition of ideas, and are of such slight social value as a step to truth that any benefit that may be derived from them is clearly outweighed by the social interest in order and morality." Fighting words are a category of speech that is unprotected by the First Amendment. Further, as seen below, the scope of the fighting words doctrine has between its creation in Chaplinsky and the Supreme Court's interpretation of it today. and Texas v. Johnson (1989) In Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), the Supreme Court redefined the scope of the fighting words doctrine to mean words that are "a direct personal insult or an invitation to exchange fisticuffs." In the case, the Court held that the burning of a United States flag, which was considered symbolic speech, did not constitute fighting words.` HOWEVER: Whether or not flipping someone off constitutes "fighting words", it's coarse and unseemly and will NEVER result in conflict resolution. Civil society requires a degree of civility, doncha think? Using such a gesture is definitely a step in the wrong direction in most any situation.

  33. I came to the same conclusion after contemplating, as a knee jerk reaction caused a unnecessary situation. Definitely have to own my own faults, as a traffic dispute is not worth a life, but listed that detail for full disclosure and discussion.

  35. Just a thought here. Had you not flipped the guy off, would the rest of the scenario have played out as it did? I'm generally a pretty calm man, but having someone say "FU" to my face, through words or gestures, really, REALLY ticks me off. Frustrations can be high in heavy traffic, and sometimes a simple thing like waving the guy on by, right of way or not, can diffuse a situation such as you describe. FAR better, in my opinion, to avoid the confrontation in the first place. A honked horn is one thing, a bullet in the chest another. Mind you, I am NOT excusing the passenger's actions. If someone tries to get into my car my reaction will be similar to yours, but what I am saying is that your gesture contributed.

  36. I absolutely think you did the right thing. From your description, you were justified in using deadly force, but you didn’t because you didn’t need to. You then reported it to the Police. I don’t know how anyone could second guess that, and I wouldn’t care if they did. Good for you, you survived it without taking a life or having to go through an investigation.

  40. At least with our ranges here, those reloads are made by a company that holds a FFL for manufacturing ammunition, which would lead one to believe that they also have an insurance policy to cover liability. That is a much different animal than some random fellas home grown loads that he made with a "special recipe" to make them big fireballs!
