  1. I was offered the opportunity by a coworker/friend to stop by their place today and learn how to reload some ammo. I was kinda ho hum about it at first but thought I'd try it. It turns out it was pretty fun. We used his RCBS Rock Chucker to load some 9mm and .45 ACP rounds. He showed me how the set up worked and how to use the loading books. The cases already had been prepped (with some exception to the 9mm brass) and the primers installed so that helped. The trickiest part was getting the equipment set up properly and the powder to measure correctly for the loads we were using. Once that was done, and seeing a few examples of how to load the powder and press the bullet into the case, I got to take my crack at it. It took me a little while to get somewhat of a rhythm down. I managed to make about 100 rounds of 9 mm and 100 rounds of .45. After we were done, he let me keep what I made! From other posts I read about learning reloading, now's a bad time to start with availability and pricing issues. Hopefully things will settle down over time and I will seriously look into investing into the equipment and supplies. I wish I had gotten into reloading sooner but better late than never I suppose.

  3. Glad you liked you experience Lock n' load. Many years ago like mid 70's I had a customer and he let me go to his place and load up .38's. It got me hooked. Nice of your co-worker friend. It is a hobby in itself. I find it peaceful, when you are reloading and you are focusing on what you are doing, you don't even think about life's challenges like mortgage and car payments. Plus at the end of your reloading session you are X number of bullets ahead in your quest to have ammo on hand whenever you feel like shooting. Then you get to pick up the brass and start all over again. It really is a viscous cycle!! LOL Btw it isn't about how many you can load in a session it is about the quality of your creations.

  7. I believe the point is that this was a huge formal occasion for the democrats. Most were dressed in their very best. Then old Bern shows up casually dressed for cold weather like the inauguration was just another stop between the Post Office and the grocery store on the day's to do list. Lots of Dems are pissed off at him for not taking it more serious. Meanwhile the rest of the country is laughing their butts off. Hell, Bernies gettin' more mileage out of the inauguration than Biden did.

  8. I’ve had both my Moderna shots. First one gave me minor aches. Second had a headache off and on for two days. The people I know that felt bad after the first didn’t have any side effects on the 2nd. Everybody has said they had shoulder pain so go with your weak side and see if they can give it higher up. Good luck

  12. Desert Eagle in 50AE, brushed chrome finish with picatinny rail on the top of the barrel. Have no earthly way to justify the purchase other than to have fun off the back porch and to see what happens when it hits the 50 yard gong. Purchased it on Gunbrokers so it will take a week or so to get here. No hurry as I have zero components for it, not even reloading dies. Will take me a few months to gather brass, dies, and bullets as everywhere is out of stock. I double dare the local racoons or skunks to make them self visible around my house this coming spring. Figure all I need to do is get within a few feet and the shock alone will kill em, lol. Empty a mag or two into the ground should take care of the moles. Hope to add a red dot and try it out when deer hunting next season. I'll try to remember to update this post when I finally get a chance to shoot it.

  13. I'm looking for a house now too, and all I can come away with is being underwhelmed for my budget range. The idea of making such a huge decision on what amounts to acceptable rather than something to be enthusiastic about isn't one I'm enjoying.

  15. These do indeed work on 1911's-I have replaced or moved around sights on 3 of my Kimbers-2 Ultra Carry and a master Carry Pro. Then moved my night sights on my Springfield EMP 3 to the 4 inch EMP and installed ledge sights on the other EMP. I know for a fact they also will push the S&W M&P which the sets I have done have been very tight from the factory-tighter than my Kimbers were. I have also used on a couple of Sig P series pistols. When Range USA was open I was their armorer for a little over 2 years so I got a chance to do a few different make sights.

  16. This has worked great on my Glocks. Have never tried it on a 1911. I will admit my brother showed me how to use it and patience is key. Patience is not one of my best qualities so I have to be in the right frame of mind.

  18. Good luck finding a builder, they're booked years out and the cost of materials is climbing just like house prices. A fixer upper is your best value right now. We saw a house in our neighborhood get flipped recently. The price they got for it made my wife say "we should sell and move!" Yes dear, but then we have to buy back into this crazy market. "Oh."

  20. My wife, and most of her co-workers, have gotten it and had no serious issues. Several had slight fevers, headaches, body aches, etc. for a day or so afterwards but we're five within a couple of days. The consensus amongst them is that mild symptoms for a couple of days is better than getting covid. One thing that we noticed talking to others that have been vaccinated is an inconsistency about directions of things to do/not to do before receiving the vaccination. Some people that I know were specifically instructed not to take ibuprofen based pain relievers/fever reducers before, or within a couple of days of receiving the shot. Others were not given that info. The more you know...

  21. I was at the VA clinic on Friday, and the nurse who drew blood told me she'd had her first shot the day before. She said she was achy and tired, but able to work. I'm sure the Motrin is to combat the achiness. VA is still doing an age group older than mine, but as soon as it's available to me, I'm in.

  23. This is a bit late to the party (seems to be my habit lately), but thought this might help someone along the way. There are all kinds of reasons issues arise on TICS years after the fact (and after previous purchases with no issues). This has been discussed at NRA legal seminars and matches up with experiences I've had. Here are the most likely reasons: 1. An old arrest without a disposition -- The typical reason for an old issue popping up is a new electronic reporting of the issue. After the Virginia Tech shooting years ago, the NICS Improvement Amendments Act was passed and state reporting to the FBI dramatically changed. To meet the requirements, many states have been gradually entering older cases (ones before they used computer databases) into their electronic databases over the years. You'd think most courts were using databases by the 1990s, but that isn't always the case. Even when they did, those databases did not always link to the state or FBI. So, an old arrest can pop up now when someone finally enters the old arrest into their system, the state makes a software update, they link old databases, or some other reason that changes or updates the data being reported to the FBI. For example, the state of Wyoming had 30+ years of arrest records on microfilm in the state archives that were gradually being entered into electronic form. Even though the project was complete, the state found a new batch of microfilm that had supposedly been lost and (magically), a new issue arose for one of my clients from the late 1970s. I only found out after 5 phone calls to the archives clerk in Wyoming. 2. Failure to Enter Dismissal -- This is similar to #1, but I see this one more in TN. In TN, it is not usual for someone to plead out a case that involves (i) some probation or conditions and then (ii) a dismissal if the probation or condition is met. So, the charges are active for a period of time and are dismissed at the end of the probation/condition period. But for whatever reason, the court clerk does not enter the dismissal at the end. The person has no idea what needs to be done to enter the dismissal and assumes that either the court or the criminal attorney will handle it (and normally does). However, in the rare case the court or the attorney fails to do it, the affected person doesn't realize it until a TICS is run. 3. Wrong Names -- This is rare, but it does happen (often in connection with an issue like #1 above). Someone with a similar name (or where a court clerk types the name in incorrectly) causes something to pop up on your background check. There are some others, but they are fairly unique circumstances. In virtually all of these cases, the proper way to handle it is (i) find out what is causing it (through the appeal or run your own FBI background check and (ii) go to the source to resolve it. If the problem is from out of state, you would need help in that other state (that is, a TN attorney is not likely to be able to help).

  29. I do want to note that this will be the third "road rage" post within a week or two on TGO. I really do believe that in the mix of COVID, election/politics, social media, all very heavily intertwined with paranoia, fear, and conspiracy theories, a lot of people are on edge more than they've likely ever been and as such reports of road rage and similiar events does not surprise me in the least. I initially considered posting about it but decided against it. However, after seeing other somewhat similar posts I decided it was important for me to do this. I was out running errands about a week ago. It was shortly after 5:30 PM and I decided to grab a few beers before heading home. I stopped at the convenience station, grabbed the goods, and waited in what seemed to be a decently long line for probably 5-10 minutes. I remember not speaking to anyone in the line, but instead watching outside two men assisting a young lady with her old, old F O R D pickup. I was pleased to see they helped her get it started rather quickly, and all seemed right in the world. After checkout, I started to leave. Generally speaking, from this gas station, I can be home within 3-4 minutes. There is exactly one red light and then three additional intersections before I am in front of my driveway. Fast forward about 2 minutes. I'm sitting at the first intersection after the red light. There is a single vehicle in front of me at the stop sign. I quickly notice this driver turned 180 degrees around, facing me and generally looking rather wide eyed at me. At the time, I didn't think much about it other than it seemed odd considering this guy should have simply turned left or right instead. I concluded he either thought he knew me or someone else, or had a case of the heebee jeebies. So, he turned left and I turned left. He sped up rather a bit and I generally thought all was well. As we neared the next turn (for me) off the main road, I was hoping I'd see him continue straight. Well, last moment he threw his turn signal on and turned the same direction. Since I was going home and didn't want to go anywhere else, I turned too. This is a country road with residential houses alongside. He pulled approximately a few hundred yards up that road and stopped the vehicle. I quickly realized that something was about to get interesting as he exited the vehicle towards me. I'm a rather caring guy. There are, potentially, legitimate reasons for approaching another driver. Maybe he needed help, or saw something on my vehicle that needed addressing. That is all certainly possible. I made sure to leave a lot of room between my vehicle and his. I also left the vehicle in D with my foot on the brake. I also I slightly cracked my window as he was waving his arms and yelling at me. I missed what he said initially, so I asked if he could repeat what he said. It's been a week, but I'll paraphrase to the best of my ability. Hey, I want to know what your problem is. What do you mean? You've been following me ever since I left the store up there. What's your problem with me? Sir, I'm just trying to get home. Where do you live? I don't need to tell you that. I knew you didn't live on this road. You need to get out from behind me. You need to go on right now. So, at this point, I carefully but quickly just passed him and kept going. I was very afraid that he would attempt to follow me and had plans on diversion, but he very speedily turned his truck around and went the other direction. In hindsight, he may have very well been in front of me a place or two in the convenience store. I'm sure in his mind, I made eye contact with him once in the store, followed him out of the store, and was going to follow him home for some sort of mischief. I'm mostly sure he was either certifiably paranoid or on drugs of some sort. But, I didn't care to get to know him, anger him, or stick around much longer than needed. The whole encounter was probably 10 seconds. My point? Deescalation is always the preferred method of handling conflict. Even though he flew off the handle immediately I treated him with respect and called him Sir. Had he given me the chance, I would have simply apologized for anything that I had done and assured him I stopped at the store for beer and was headed home to my family. I could have verbally disputed with him, I could have upped the game by cursing/name calling. I could have acted big and tough by acting in threatening manners. At the end of all of it, I just wanted to get home to my family without incident and drink my beer. Be careful out there folks.

  33. I’ve got one of those Harbor freight Apache cases, and it is about as sturdy of a case as I’ve seen. With the coupon you can usually get it for about $110 or so. i’ve also got to say that if you need an overt holster with active retention, the Safariland with the ALS system is the only way to go. Everything else runs the gamut from merely falling short, to straight garbage (Serpa).

  35. I work at Academy part time and we get ammo in regularly. The problem is the guys standing in line and buying the ammo up to resale. I know it's capitalism but it still annoys the crap out of me. If those people would stop ammo would become much more available, a lot of times we are our own worst enemy.

  37. So I admit to being pretty hot headed in my younger days. I used to say and do stuff that I knew would blow up the situation. I have since learned to ignore a lot of idiots in the world. Makes me happier and removes their validation. When being in any type of "altercation", your actions are all you can control. I think one misstep, like in another recent thread, is your response. Probably seemed appropriate at the time but it just antagonized him and moved the situation along. Remember in lots of cases it might end up being your word against his and maybe he is a better storyteller than you. Especially when you are carrying, you have to remember that the first rule should be to avoid situation where you need to draw your weapon. What if he had been carrying his gun and immediately opened fire when he saw yours. From your seated position, he might have the upper hand. Now you were the one that pulled a gun and he responded in fear for his life. Or at least that is what he will say after he tosses the tire iron back in his trunk. Whether you can tell your side might simply come down to how good his aim is. I am leaving mine here just because. I guess I missed reading @GlockSpock's response. Sorry

  38. I'm glad both you and he made it home safe that day. Deescalation is always preferred to escalation. Again, I'm glad you made it home (as did he), but you were literally at any point one decision away from a shoot-out. Had he had a firearm on his person, he may have not needed to chamber a round and may have had a quicker response time than you. I highlighted the escalation performed by you in red. You needn't use inflammatory language, a simple "I"m very sorry" may well have ended everything on the spot. You claim to have pulled over to defuse the situation, which may very well have been your intent, but most of the time "pulling over" is purely meant for "settling the score". When you withdrew your pistol and chambered a round, that very well could have been seen as an immediate threat to his life. Had he shot you dead, it would have likely been his word vs the word of a dead person (you) who's vehicle was behind his. It would have looked like you followed him and pulled a firearm on him unless your family's lawyer could find video evidence. You considered driving around him out of the question out of fear he may "bash your car or impede you" but then directly resorted to presenting deadly force which could have left either or both of you dead. Insurance fixes cars, not blood drainage holes. Look, I understand that in the heat of the moment it can be tough to make the best decision. I just don't think you responded quite as well as you think you did. You mention being a "careful considerate" driver...that purposefully drifts into the lane in front of a car roughly two car lengths behind. Stay in your lane, I guess? Driving to the police station was your smartest move. Although I do wonder, in this situation, what would happen if the other driver phoned the police and told them you brandished a weapon. Go ahead, call me anti-gun, that's always fun. Here's a question, what is your exact motive for joining TGO and posting this thread? To get (or give) advice? I have a somewhat similar and very true story that happened about 1-2 weeks ago. I'll create a post as to not derail this thread.
