  1. You will NEVER have only one 1911! You might never have had one , or never will have one... But you will never have only one 1911.

  2. When I first started reloading our rental house was a bit small. I mounted my press and powder unit to a board, and routed some slots to hold my scale and ammo boxes. When it was time to load I clamped that board to the kitchen table or coffee table, and took it down when done (or the wife started bitching). Now that board is (semi) permanently to the workbench in my shed. Not perfect, but it got me loading earlier.

  3. I was thinking of this a few days ago. Years ago (80's) when I was a very young Christian, and not very experienced, I was asked to join with 2 other guys to go and talk to a man (fellow Christian) who had left his middle aged wife for a very young coed. They were living together at that time. Others had tried to reach him, but were unable as he was ducking them. I went more or less as a supporter in body. We went to his work place and confronted him by surprise. We stood there, and he talked with us, mostly just chit chat. The longer we chatted I started thinking someone needs to bring the subject up and we need to discuss the reason we came there for. time passed and no one did. I was very unexperienced, at this sort of thing, so I just silently prayed to God, and asked Him to help me talk to this man effectively. Well, I started, and after chatting for a few minutes I became aware that I really didn't know where the words coming out of my mouth were coming from. I finished, we prayed for him, in a very loving way(meaning I didn't not drop a sledge hammer on him in our conversation), then left. As we left everyone in the car was quiet as we traveled back to the church building where we had parked our cars. As we drove I was thinking of what just transpired, and my conversation with our errant friend. I slowly began to think God gave me those words to try and reach this man. It was like my mouth was moving, and I didn't know where the words were coming from, but I was speaking. Like I said no one was saying a word in that car and i was alone in my thoughts. When we arrived back at the building, I said well guys, we did and said what we had to do. We prayed for our friend again. I finally told them I just hope we were able to make him consider what he is doing and what he was throwing away. He had been married for 20 years. I told him, if he continued in this arrangement, he was in danger of loosing his soul, and out of fervent love for God, him, and his family, I could not live with myself, if I didn't tell him that. Long story short, when I read his obituary a few months back I was filled with great Joy. Not for what I said, or the very little part we played in this man's life, but that God used us to encourage him to get straight and come back the church, God, and back to us. He straightened himself up and came back to the church, repented, and his wife allowed him to came back into their home, with 3 children, and he passed away a faithful Christian many years later. To God be the glory in all this. I only tell you this, not to brag, but It was the first time I realized God works in our lives. It made me take serious notice to what I did and how I was living my life. I have had 4 other occasions, one where it changed my life and faith to this day, when I realize God has used me, or taken care of me in spite of myself. God looks out for the humble in heart, and His children in more ways than we ever know. It is life altering when you realize God is on the job, in Your life. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER DOUB IT!

  4. A.J. I have read and re-read this thread and I really enjoy the down to earth conversation. We had a young man who ended up being our pastor's grand-daughters husband. He got saved and baptized and you could just see him growing in his faith. One day in a morning prayer time, when he prayed it was something like this, Hey Jesus and he talks with Jesus like me and you might talk. It was really refreshing, because I think too many times we want to paint God as a being so far away, but he isn't. I have this idea that God is leaning down cupping his hand to his ear listening for all of us to have a conversation with Him. I haven't told anyone this and hesitate to do it now and I am not bragging so please don't think that. Sometime in July we had a flash flood and me, my son and grandson had been shooting and stopped by a LGS well as we were leaving a fellow in a well used car had his hood up and it is still lightly raining, he had misjudged the water and got his engine flooded. Well we hook up the jumper cables and it took 30 minutes or more of fiddling to get the car going and the fellow had told me he didn't have but a few dollars and was waiting on a check. So I put the jumper cables up and it just hit me to give this guy some money, I was kind of like you I had about 5 Benjamins and some Washingtons and I said to myself, you have much more than this guy, so I hand him a Benjamin and he looks at it and said are you kidding me and I said nope, not kidding you. You want to know what happened next, he asked me if it was okay if he prayed for me. I almost broke down crying. My son saw me give him money, but didn't see how much, I never told my wife. You know the saying it is better to give than to receive, believe me it is so much better. I used to use the word coincidence, I don't use it anymore, if someone is in your path, they are there for a reason. Stop and figure out the reason and what you could do for them. Hope all of you have a blessed day. Thank you Jesus for all the many blessings you have rained down from Heaven upon me and my family.

  5. I started off reloading because I'm the type that enjoys doing everything myself by hand. I've never really noticed a significant cost savings except for. 50 BMG which I have to say is substantial. Let me know what you need, chances are I might have some of your missing components/powder. I standardized a lot of my plinking recipes a couple years back and have been sitting on about 20 random powders that I know longer use. Maybe I should just take inventory and post it all up I'm willing to give most of it up free of charge.

  6. Howdy, I thought I would post this just in case someone has that question rolling around in their noggin. I loaded .357 magnum with158 gr. Hornady XTP HP for hunting and defense. It cost me a tad less than $30 for 100 rounds. Ammoseek had 158gr Hornady XTP HP for $174.99 for 50 or $349.98 for the same thing I loaded for less than $30. Granted it took my time to do the work, but most hobbies like fishing, golf, hunting etc won't pay you $319.98 per day. Plus it was a nice rainy day and I was dry and all by myself.

  7. Ronald let us know what items you need to get up and running and you would be surprised at the excess most reloaders have.

  8. I work at Academy part time and we get ammo in regularly. The problem is the guys standing in line and buying the ammo up to resale. I know it's capitalism but it still annoys the crap out of me. If those people would stop ammo would become much more available, a lot of times we are our own worst enemy.

  9. I am planning to vacation in Southern Florida next week and would like to take a pistola with me, as I'm planning on spending some time solo fishing in the Everglades. I've flown quite a bit, but have never taken a gun with me. In the times that we live in I don't want to make a mistake, so I wanted to review everything befrore hand. IF it matters I will be flying Spirit Airlines. I've reached out to them because I could not find any specific information pertaininhg to checking a firearm on their website. I plan to print out the TSA policy, along with anything Spirit sends me and carrying it with me. From what I understand, I need to pack my pistol in a hard sided box. Would a hard box that pistols typically come packagged in suffice for this (liike a Glock box)? Its my understanding that I must then lock that box with my own lock and the baggage that I pack it in with a TSA lock. As far as ammunition, it is my understanding that It must be in the origional package, but may be packed in the box with the pistol, is that correct? Finally, the obvious, I know that it must be unloaded and I declare it when I check in for my flight. Am I missing anything here? I did do a search but the latest information was 5 years old and I wanted to make sure that I was getting up to date information. Thank you all in advance!

  10. You got it all except that the ammo doesn't have to be in the original box. You can use any ammo box. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/transporting-firearms-and-ammunition Small arms ammunition (up to .75 caliber and shotgun shells of any gauge) must be packaged in a fiber (such as cardboard), wood, plastic, or metal box specifically designed to carry ammunition and declared to your airline. Ammunition may be transported in the same hard-sided, locked case as a firearm if it has been packed as described above. You cannot use firearm magazines or clips for packing ammunition unless they completely enclose the ammunition. Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be boxed or included within a hard-sided, locked case. Spirit's specific rules can be found here on Pages 27 & 28 https://content.spirit.com/Shared/en-us/Documents/Contract_of_Carriage.pdf

  11. Pop Pop, that was a great story, especially the ending when this man met his maker!! That has always given me problems about what to say, but like you said pray and God will give you the words. You know when you guys first started talking to him, it was like you were discussing the weather, and football and everyone was hedging around the subject at hand. If any of you want to hear a great street evangelist, his name is Ray Comfort and he teamed up with Kirk Cameron and their business is The way of the Master, very uplifting and gives you lots of ways to reach people for the Lord. I won't preach, just that I heard a preacher the other day say don't look at the person, no matter what color or sex or whatever. Look at them like GOD does, he is looking at us as a soul, here is the deal. Everyone has a soul, everyone will spend eternity in 1of 2 places, it is your choice, God wants you to spend it with Him in Heaven or you can do absolutely nothing and go to Hell. Not for a few day, weeks, months or years, but for all of eternity. I will just ask everyone to examine themselves and say if I died in 10 minutes where would I spend eternity. If you are unsure, please either go to your pastor, a pastor or one of us. A lot of folks want to make it a difficult thing, but salvation is very simple, you have to first admit that you are a sinner, we all are born that way. Next you must repent, turn from your sins, ask Jesus to forgive you and try to walk in a new life everyday thereafter. You won't be able to turn from your old ways by yourself, you have to ask God to send the holy spirit to lead and guide you. After that you should find a good Bible believing church that preaches the word and start studying your Bible. And getting baptized isn't necessary, Jesus saves not the water, it is just an outward expression telling the world you have changed and you aren't ashamed of Jesus or being called a Christian.

  12. That’s pretty much it. Only thing I would add is that make sure the box is sufficiently strong sided enough that it cannot easily be pried open from the sides. My M&P came with a good enough case, the one I got with my CDHP doesn’t work as well. If the case isn’t sufficiently secure, you can be turned away.

  13. Based on what I read here, you've got it covered. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/transporting-firearms-and-ammunition You should definitely bring it up and get resolution if Spirits policy says anything significantly different.

  14. Welcome to your future home. It's not tropical for sure but you might second guess that in the summers here in west Tenn. Winter here is rain, sun shine, 70 degrees, 20 degrees, snow, and tornadoes. And that's all in one day,

  18. Welcome to Tennessee and TGO. You must be talking about peconic river sportsmans club, ORSA is a much nicer facility, more ranges and much bigger. They don't have an elephant in the main house but the people are nicer.

  20. And he will want to load another 5K or so. Lock n load, don't worry about how long it takes to get the powder dispenser set. Just remember you are making custom ammunition, not the run of the mill that we buy just to get by. Just double check yourself and don't assume anything. I won't load if someone stops by unless I am teaching them to load. If you stop by to chat I will finish the round I am working on and turn around and talk as long as you want. No computer, no T.V., no distractions. I like to stay focused and it is a good thing to forget all your every day worries. It is a fun hobby don't turn it into work. It sure is a good feeling to break a clay with a reload, kill a turkey with a reload or a deer. And it is a really good feeling to look at the growing pile of ammo. But it is addicting don't say we didn't warn you.

  22. Takes about 3 to 4 months to become a member at ORSA once you submit an application. Like Leroy said, a current member has to sponsor you on that application. 57 new members were approved by the board this month.

  23. These posts always make me chuckle. You may be saving on costs per round, but most of us end up shooting more. So we really don't save any money at all. Of course these days with the Covid, shortages and high costs, most of us are saving quite a bit because we aren't shooting at all.

  24. Exactly and the reason for my previous question. No one is going to get into the reloading game today and load at that kind of cost/round.

  28. My wife and I moved to TN two years ago from Washington. I grew up there and miss the [real] mountains and saltwater, but Tennessee suits us so much better. People here have been friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The political climate suits me FAR better than what Washington has turned into. But it sure does rain a lot here! We bought 20 wooded acres and built a log home. It cost a lot more than we anticipated, but in the end we think it's worth it. Resale means nothing to us, as we expect to remain here until we die. Of course I expected my last place in Washington to be our last place, too. Interestingly, when we started to build several of the neighbors stopped by and pretty early in the conversations we were asked about our politics. It's pretty clear that the people around me are not interested in experiencing a "Californiafication". And I sure understand that, as Californiafication is a big part of what wrecked Washington for me.

  31. I have a Bianchi Model 82 leather OWB for my G19/G26. It has their "Carry Lock" retention. There's a catch that holds the trigger guard and a lever /switch right below it to release it. I like it well enough, though I usually carry a single stack (Kahr PM9, G43, or Shield) IWB in a Remora holster.

  32. No, that is NOT capitalism, it's profiteering. Capitalism assumes adding value. People who wait on line to buy ammo, then sell it two hours later are contributing mightily to the whole problem. At best it's unethical.
    1 point
  33. I am buying so I can shoot. But I am sure there are some re-sellers. Academy has kept their prices reasonable. I think I have paid between $0.24 and $0.30 per round for 9mm. As long as folks on Gunbroker continue to pay stupid amounts for ammo (near $1.00 per round fir 9mm) people will resell.

  34. Try and run magnum shells threw it and see if that cycles it. 1100's can be finicky with the power level your using. Alot of them won't cycle the cheap skeet loads.

  35. Then at this point I say do what you will, but I would HIGHLY recommend that you do not mix the vagaries of the ATF’s NFA rules with TN’s rules on carry permits. Carry a handgun that is undoubtedly a handgun where no argument can be made that it’s not a handgun. Not that it’s a handgun because you removed one part or it’s a day that starts with T. Attempting to walk a fine line of “just legal enough” doesn’t mix well with self defense laws. The game you’re attempting to play here doesn’t ever work out well for the folks without unlimited money for attorneys (the government). This is coming from a dude who generally is of the opinion of “do whatever you want, just understand that when you break stupid laws, the punishment doesn’t change because the law is stupid.” So decide what you want to do and put your big boy pants on because you decided to cross the line, or stay well clear of it because it only takes one politically motivated prosecutor to ruin your life. Good luck with whatever choice you make.
