  4. Remember this... All machines have weak spots. It's the nature of things. Use em enough, and ya will find em. Generally, the service life of most machines is far greater than the " practical " life if the machine. That said; i think there are basically two approaches to modern polymer pistol slide design. The first (...and my perferred approach... ) is to make the slide light and the recoil spring strong... I think that is what Glock does and why they feel good in hand. The second approach is to make the slide heavy and lighten the spring. ALA the Springfiekd XD... They work well, but feel (.. To me, at least..) a bit top heavy. Remember, most everything is a trade off of some kind. leroy...

  5. I bought this at a gun show a few years back. It came with a set of stag grips. I finally located original style grips for it. This was no easy feat. In case anyone isn't familiar, this is a Smith and Wesson Heavy Frame Target Model, also referred to as a Bekeart Model. I'm not sure the year of manufacture, but it is roughly 100 years old, and chambered for 22 Long Rifle. I've always wanted one of these, but never thought i'd actually have one.

  6. Made in USA BY ALTAMONT GRIP COMPANY - I had to shape the back with some 400 and 600 as they stuck out at the web of the hand and were at 90 degree angles. I sanded it back a 1/16 or so rounded it and I LOVE THEM. I have the same set but with checkers... not sure yet were they will end up. I HATE TO SHARE IT! https://www.ebay.com/itm/S-W-GRIP-N-FRAME-ROUND-BUTT-INDIAN-ROSEWOOD-SMOOTH-BOOT-STYLE-W-S-W-MEDALLIONS/373146627750 Now complete with night sites! Father-in-law just hooked me up and helped me get them on the gun. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IECO29Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  9. As others have said, important to remember that the reasonableness of your actions will be judged by people who aren't scared, who didn't just wake up to the sound of a stranger in the home, and who don't have loved ones in the next room. @ Raoul - My wife and I were living in a low-end apartment 15 years ago and were both off work and asleep in the bedroom about 2 pm. She shook me awake and whispered "There's someone in the house." Maybe seven seconds later I had grabbed my 1911 from a drawer and heard heavy footsteps in the hall. Someone rattled the locked bedroom doorknob from outside the room. I sounded off with "Get out or I'll shoot," racked the slide, and aimed at the door. Immediately I heard footsteps running away. Stupidly I opened the bedroom door and followed the sound. I made it out the front door in time to see a guy start his engine and drive away faster than I would have thought a pest control van can go. Afterward I had a huge adrenaline dump, figured out what had happened, felt angry, felt frustrated... and was very relieved I hadn't fired through that bedroom door. About two days later the apt. leasing office admitted to me that they routinely gave keys to a local pest control company to send contractors inside units (with no prior notice to residents) and spray for bugs during the day "while residents are at work." Suffice to say, we moved. There's a lot about it that I could have done better. But no one got hurt.

  10. TN / GA / AL Training Group On Saturday February 27 we will hold our 1st meeting for the TN/GA/AL Training Group for 2021 ! Instructor: Randy Harris (http://harriscombative.com/about/) Location: The usual place- Phillips/Edwards Farm 763 County Rd 332 Pisgah AL 35765 Time: 9AM CENTRAL time - 3PM CENTRAL time Price: $80 - pay at class cash or check. What you need to bring: Pistol, pistol magazines and 150 rounds of ammo. Revolvers are welcome if you want to party like it is 1899. We will work on smoothing out our pistol skills and will shoot several new and challenging drills that we have not done before and work to be more competent and confident with the weapon we carry most...our pistol. The pistol is far more likely to be the weapon you will have at hand when trouble starts be it robbery, terrorism or whatever. This will give participants a chance to shoot some timed and scored drills and get a feel for where their skill level is and see where they can improve . Also I will be making some 9mm ammo available so you can replenish some of what you shoot. So bring some extra cash (or check or paypal or whatever) if you want some ammo. Looking forward to seeing you there! For those wondering what the TN/GA/AL Training Group is all about....., the TN/GA/AL training group was first started as a regular opportunity for alumni of both Suarez International classes and any other classes taught by Randy Harris to gather and practice the various skills they had learned in class . As time has gone on it is open to all interested even if you have never trained with Randy before. It is not as much a structured class as it is a casual, low stress, "semi private coaching session" where Randy devises drills to work the specific skills that are the subject of the day. It is a "One room schoolhouse" where all levels of skill are invited and welcome. Randy has the ability to challenge the more advanced student while not making the less experienced students feel overwhelmed and to help the less experienced students along without making things boring for the more advanced students. And it is also a chance to meet some really good people who share the same interests. It is open to all, so come on out and see what we are about !

  11. That was kinda my point. If you carry a big gun, get some small mags. If you don’t want to carry a big gun with small mags, get a small gun before they are about as hard to find as ammo right now. I think by nature, we prepare for the unforeseeable. Given the landscape, I think we need to prepare for low round counts (at best)

  12. There will be no “grandfathering” in future laws re: magazines (or clips if you prefer) unless they are serial numbered and quite possibly with an electronic tracking device and/or DNA swab incorporated into them. If I’m not mistaken States like California have already enacted outright bans on normal mags, regardless of when they were made or acquired. Municipalities are doing or trying the same. The endgame is an outright ban, there is no more “easing” gun owners into compliance. They want it done now. if you go hunting for 10 round mags you might just find them absurdly priced. It’s been that way for a while now.

  16. It’ll probably shoot just fine. Just need to remember to really clean out your rifles really well (I use a hose, not kidding) after you shoot it. I’ve got a whole bunch of German corrosive ammo that I use with no problems.

  26. I hope it doesn't pass. However, I don't feel like the previous argument saying "it will never" isn't quite as valid anymore. This was also said about Biden getting into office and Republicans losing control of the Senate. Both happened. Unless the minimum number of Democrats see the danger in this, it will have a high likelyhood of getting through.

  28. Mosins are out there, but they're not the fabled $100 rifle anymore. The flood of imports ended several years ago, dealers and distributors have sold through their stocks and all that are available now are on the secondary market. If you've followed older milsurp rifle sales for any time, you'll know that once the primary sources dry up there's a gradual increase in prices over time, as the huge supply dwindles away. We've seen this happens with German and other Mousers, Enfields, 1903's and Garands, etc. It's a normal progression and has been going on for years. With the current craze on firearms in general going on, this process has been hastened somewhat for Mosins, but it was inevitable that they would become more scarce and higher-priced on the open market. Of course, you'll still find plenty of people who will blab on and on about how they remember when there were crates of these available at $29 and such, but none of that is relevant to today ...

  31. The proper approach to this question and others like it isn’t “what can I do?” It should always be “what must I do?” Whether in your home or elsewhere. So the question isn’t “can I shoot this person,” the question is “must I shoot this person to defend my life, or the lives of others from imminent harm.” If that’s your operating position, I think the odds of you actually being in a position to shoot anybody are pretty damn low, and facing legal trouble over the shoot well below that.

  32. Revolvers are having, or needing, a resurgence?? I didn’t get the notification. Altamont Grips is going strong. But we have lost the original S&W factory grips, and Ahrends Grips. I don’t know how any self respecting gun owner could even consider Kydex for a holster; but it certainly is an option. There are plenty of leather options available from cheap junk to quality holsters. But of course leather holsters cost more than plastic ones. Since CRB, I’ve only added one gun. It’s a S&W model 610. I don’t foresee adding anything else soon as the prices are crazy. Almost all my carry guns are Semi-autos. But I certainly love my revolvers, and a revolver holds the #1 place in my home defense.

  33. Why are you discussing revolvers and Kydex at the same time?

  34. My favorite semi-auto .22 is the Browning Buckmark. Absolutely wonderful pistol and target accurate. It comes in many versions to fit most anybody. You didn't mention your daughter's age. If she's young, the Buckmark, Rugers or other similar guns may be too big for her hands. If you can find one, the S&W Models 34/63 J-frame .22s are ideal for young shooters to start on. Plus they're top quality and very accurate. Start her out shooting SA and then shift to DA when she's ready.
