Lol, you can't put a question mark after eh, you wouldn't have passed the test You know how they say "the grass is always greener on the other side" ? Well that's true here. I had family move to the states years ago, and friends since then, and they all kept saying "come down, why do you stay there?". Thing is, it's never really been too bad here. Sure we're sort of a third world country, sure our money looks ridiculous, but damn, people are nice here (or used to be anyway). It's not a terrible place to live, UNTIL a hostile government takes over, and starts to remind you that you are not free citizens, you are quite literally "subjects of the crown", or in other words property. I believe the government is gearing up to take away the right to own things, the slogan is "you'll own nothing...and love it". Canadians have the highest levels of personal debt in the entire world. Small crappy houses cost 1 million (no joke), with yards that are 35x90ft. Our "real" tax rate is something close to 80%, once you factor in the federal, provincial, sales, carbon and sin taxes. "Free" health care is what we keep bragging about, but let's say I pay $200,000 a year in taxes, and the guy that breaks into my car every night for meth money pays $0. We both end up at the hospital, I have chest pains, and he's on his 5th OD. HE goes first because he got in the door first. Emergency room wait times (pre covid) were up to 12 hours. TWELVE HOURS BEFORE YOU GET TO SEE A TRIAGE NURSE!!! Now a lot of that was union garbage, and we do have some good doctors here (you can't pronounce their names, but they're usually competent), as all of the good english speaking doctors get snapped up by US hospitals. So taking that into consideration, and the tax savings themselves, I'm good with paying for the health insurance, and being able to pick and chose where and when I get healthcare. I mean there's a lot of good here (it's a beautiful country), BUT being a true free citizen of the planet is way way way better. That's why when I get there, I'm going to fly the stars and stripes, remove my hat for the anthem, and be bloody glad I'm there.

Welcome to TGO, and I hope you do move to Tennessee. I live just outside Nashville, and used to live outside Chattanooga and still have family there. I have close friends in and outside of Cookeville also. Id recommend looking around Chattanooga or Cookeville. Nashville itself is full of liberals and even the formerly conservative areas around Nashville are filling up with liberal immigrants form New York and Commiefornia. Of course as soon as they get here they want to change us to be more like them. Property/houses/apartments prices have shot through the roof...if you can find one.

If the democrats get their way, by either making DC or Puerto Rico a state, automatically registering everybody to vote, and make mail in voting commonplace, your vote in TN will be worthless on a national level. We are getting to a point that our only hope is to have the State stand up to the Feds. I agree that to have the State go against the Federal Government is a steep hill to climb. The feds have taken over state’s rights by taking hold of the purse strings. It’s something we should at least consider though.

Just a rambly letter of introduction... I was taught to shoot by my grandfather, who was a WWII drill Sargent (well Canadian equivalent). I've been shooting since I was about 6, have had guns literally my entire life (my "toy" gun was an old training hi point that gramps likely bought from the army, he was too straight laced to steal anything). We used to have spots we could go on our bikes and shoot, 22 long guns hanging out of gunny sacks on our backs...nobody cared or called police. I've seen that attitude change over the years, with the media pushing a fear-fuelled agenda to disarm those that allow themselves to be disarmed. I am currently serving my "2 year amnesty" for the crime of owning a legally licensed, purchased, registered sporting gun (or as they call it, an "assault style rifle". In fact, they're hitting me for about $4,000 worth of "registered" guns. We've got neighbors calling the snitch lines on people they don't like, screeching about how dangerous guns are, cheering this arbitrary disarmament, and I tell you, I'm done. Put it this way, imagine California suddenly took over, and brian selter was lord and ruler, and he was just splattering the country with all sorts of SJW nonsense...and people were cheering him on. THAT'S what it's like here. They have weed, drum circles, guys that wear twat knots and capri pants...yes there are a LOT of good solid people here, but they've all been driven out of the cities, and the cities have all the voting power. In fact, only 2 cities select the leader, Toronto and Quebec. These are the cities where they direct most "new Canadians" and they shower them with free money, free phones, free healthcare, everything they need, so long as they vote. It's insane but very effective for the left. So we are looking to not only move out of the city, but out of this country. We are one "order in council" away from being a literal dictatorship. I lost my AK and MP5 in '94-'95 to a similar ban, and that's when they started registering ARs (swearing they weren't doing it to ban them...ha). Why I joined here was to get a feel/taste for the environment. We have an immigration lawyer helping us out, as we plan on moving a profitable business down there. The plan is to get a property with ~50 acres or so, and I want to set up a spot to shoot (right now I have to travel an hour to a gun range to even plink, and they are trying to enact sound bylaws that will outlaw gun ranges, they are really kicking us hard up here). So I'm looking for maybe advice on areas to look at/avoid, maybe realtors to contact, things to consider, etc etc. Any tips would be welcome. Oh and I'd like to also add. When we get there, we won't be like the "new arrivals" to THIS country. We plan to adhere to the laws and customs of the land, proudly fly the stars and stripes (can we do that as foreigners?), etc etc. We're not looking to rock the boat, we want to embrace what you offer, and hopefully add to it. We'll be setting up an office and looking to expand the business (biotech), add to the coffers of the IRS, etc etc. We are not snotty ungrateful people (in fact, I think we're incredibly nice). My daughter is taking her masters, and hopefully she will take over the company at some point so that I can just sit, drink beer and work on old classic cars or something. Lastly, and this one is both important and sad that we have to say it, but we want to simply stop socializing with leftists/liberals/socialists whatever you want to call them. We originally had pegged North Carolina as our destination, but as we follow the politics, we honestly believe that TN will be one of the last, if not THE last holdout state (I have a very leftist sister in TX, and she is 'thrilled' at how liberal the state is becoming with all the lovely Californians moving in...after destroying their home state with progressivism). So I guess my purpose for posting here is to see if anyone can give some advice on where we should be looking for property. Ideally we don't want to have to rent for a year, then find a place, we'd like to just get a place and move in. The visa system is pretty weird, we more or less have to go there, set up, and THEN apply for the visa, as our investment has to be considered "at risk" to qualify for the E-2. The people on the NC forum were really really nice, and it's honestly too bad their State is going blue, but probably for the best, I wanted TN from the start, my wife wanted NC for the biotech community there, but realistically we just want to be around like-minded people, and live out whatever time we have left, in a truly free State and country. So many Americans are totally clueless about how awesome your Constitution is...they simply haven't lived in a country where the government starts to simply take away freedoms...don't let those freaks alter your constitution, there's nothing like it in the world, and it gives the people power to tell the government ENOUGH. Of course the dems want to obliterate it. How can you herd the sheep when you aren't allowed to build fences around them... We have one business associate in TN, and she's been giving us some tips, areas to avoid, not to travel around unannounced on private property(duh), things like that, but I don't think she really gets what we're looking for. I was browsing around Ollie's the other day and came across a book that got my attention. It is called "Cop Under Fire" by well-known Sheriff David Clarke Jr. I'm about close to being halfway through and it haa been a good read. I always liked his no-nonsense attitude and his unwavering support for law enforcement. He doesn't pull any punches and tells it like it is on a variety of subjects. I highly recommend it.

Even if it was upside down, the single star would still be closest to the blue bar. It looks like they took the blue bar off the image, turned the red part over right to left and then added the blue bar back.

To answer one of your questions back aways the power company getting into the internet business is fairly new but they seem to be expanding into areas underserved faster than any other companies. They are doing the same here in NE TN with Fiber and small wireless towers. Still waiting for them to drop a couple more towers in for me to move from slow DSL but a friend that had no options but cell hot spots or satellite just got fiber back in December. Good Luck

truly not certain. the wording appears to put the burden of proof on us citizens which won't pass federal court scrutiny so I am taking the wait and see. proof being the background check and required training. if it translates to the same procedure as we now have without the state fees that would fix the proof issue.

Heh, I see the two sides, and I gotta tell you, if it really came down to it, sign me up with patriots, rednecks and hillbillies any day of the week. I come from old school values. Like the boy scouts used to teach (oh sorry, it's just scouts now isn't it?). I like to help those that need to be helped, not just hand over the keys to the farm to anyone that cries loud enough. Show up to work if someone is awesome enough to give you a job. Thank someone if they help you. Hold the door open for the person behind you. Wave at people you don't know, help gather up the horses because the damn gate was left open again. Community used to mean something, and I like to think it still does, but I have realized that you simply can't be friends with everyone, so I'd rather pick happy decent people. If you can swap out a transmission if it was necessary, and appreciate a good scotch, so much the better.

Well not to gloat, but our massive dysfunctionality and inability to think as one has kept us what we are. As to what that is, it depends on who you ask....

Yeah I've been following the exodus from the hard blue states pretty carefully, but TN is appealing because it's too cold for californians to hang around too long, and "much too unsophisticated" for fancy new yorkers. Unfortunately I think all big cities will turn blue, until they become uninhabitable. Sooner or later lefties always turn on themselves, so best just let them at it, although I'm eager to visit Nashville, and see all the historical sites around the state, but we were already warned off of Nashville proper. We should have no problem $ wise once we sell everything here. The tricky part is we don't qualify for any kind of mortgage because we are non citizens, so everything has to be cash until we get set up with the IRS, etc. So we literally have to sell everything here, then go there, and buy. The logistics of selling/buying/moving/visa application etc etc is a bit daunting to be honest, so I'm trying to figure out as many things as possible before it all goes ahead (spring 2022 is the absolute latest we want to be out of here). I get along best with gun people, and generally we usually share political views, so I knew this would be the place to start asking questions of "real people". I'm quite excited to go. It's literally an hour drive to the gun range here. Also, I shoot IPSC, we can't practice here unless there are ROs on duty, AND the club has permission to operate (couldn't during all these so called pandemics). The few times I've competed against Americans, well I just can't touch their speed. I chatted with one guy from AZ and he was "I have all of the qualifier layouts set up in my backyard, I can practice morning to night". I mean, how can I ever compete with that, considering all I can do is shoot paper? My practice is done in the garage with an airsoft, and they just proposed to make THOSE proihib. I mean they are after 100% disarmament here, which means they want to do something really ####ty to us. As a Canadian I do have to apologize for such long responses. I'm just so thrilled the wife finally got off the NC choice, she's stubborn when she sets her mind to something. I wanted TN since day one. Can we still fly the confederate flag down there? I mean, I think we all grew up idolizing the General Lee, no?

Beauty eh! I'll scope out the Chatanooga area for sure, see what kind of properties are available, and I'll see about calling the utility. Is it normal to have internet controlled by the electric company? That actually sounds pretty good, as they're probably good at keeping networks up and running. We have to make the trip down and view some properties, although we risk being detained if we fly back in. We're half-assed thinking about just driving down, it's only about 12 hours from here, and it saves us from possible detainment if we fly back into Canada. So we want to have a pretty good idea of where we're looking before we do that.

Well my wife is literally 'the boss' (CEO), and 90% of our clientele is either left, or at least liberal (those two things aren't always the same). So I'm not really allowed to talk to any of the clients (until my wife clears it at least). So I know what you mean. I think she heard that ben shapiro was moving to TN, and she loves listening to that guy (I find he takes 2 hours to say what he could in 2 minutes), but that opened the door for me to get the ok to start hunting for places in TN lol.

My wife and I understand. We are the lone conservative people in our street. Between that, the outrageous property taxes, and age; we are looking/considering a move to the Eastern Middle Tn area. Maybe the Cookeville to Crossville area. I have some family in the general area, so it's a possibility. I guess the area for you will depend upon your business and it's requirement. Not recommending, since I don't have knowledge of your specific wants; but I will say there seems to be a goodly number of the kind of people that think like is around there. Thanks. That study references three large studies with the opposite findings. It excludes Spain and Sweden from the data, which are strong example of the negative correlation between vitamin D and severity of COVID-19. Clinicaltrials.gov shows 82 ongoing studies of vitamin D as a treatment/preventive for COVID-19. It's not just wacko vitamin nuts who think vitamins can cure everything. I'm okay with everyone else getting the shot. My choice won't affect the speed of vaccinating everyone since there's a waiting list of people to get the shot.

Good question. I joined before even moving to TN and was welcomed and encouraged. I have learn lots of things, some even useful . Met a fellow early on that has become one of best friends. I consider many of you on here a friend even though I have only met a few of you. Bought some nice guns from several of you, one I just picked up today. Bought a nice knife for my son but it is still being stored on my mantel . Have not missed many days checking in here since I joined, it is just part of my day.

There is so much to learn. I've been a member since 2008 and still don't have 1000 posts because I'm soaking up things others have posted.

Bingo! It surprised me that there were a few (not many) members here who seemed to be unconcerned about 2A rights during the past election. I'm not a single issue voter, but the 2A issue is one of my top concerns. Right now the sharks smell blood in the water, and they're circling in preparation for taking the biggest bites they can manage. Democrats see NOW as the best opportunity in many years to pass a wide range of gun restrictions. And we're seeing party-line votes in the Senate that leave me without much confidence that conservatives can withstand the onslaught. The terrible shame, in my view, is that there probably are some things that can be done to make it less attractive for a criminal to obtain a firearm. But we've passed the point that any compromise on the part of gun-owners simply becomes the new standard and that the anti-gunners begin again from that point. NO compromise will ever be enough for the gun-ban crowd, many of whom are entirely uninformed, and therefore I am no longer willing to support ANY compromise at all.

TGO has unfortunately, from time to time, been visited by those who lack morals and ethics and would like to take advantage of the good graces and trusting nature of our fine members. This activity almost always seems to increase when social conditions are turbulent, especially if the turbulence is centered around the ability to find and buy guns or ammo. Lately we have had to boot a few people who were exhibiting suspicious behavior. We want you to be aware of this fact and to be sure to check a person's status on TGO before you commit to doing business with them as either the seller or the buyer. This is especially true if the other person encourages you to take communication with them "off the forum" and to email or some sort of instant messaging service. Before you buy or sell: Look to see whether they have have an active account or if they've been banned since you started talking to them. If you are going to meet to conduct business, do it during daylight hours and in a heavily trafficked, very public, neutral meeting place. Don't invite people to your home. Don't agree to meet people at theirs. MOST police and sheriff's stations have space at their parking lot where you can meet for selling and buying with strangers. Other good places are parking lots of busy business and in sight of their security cameras. Trust your gut instincts whether just when communicating online or meeting in person. If something feels "off" or "weird" - trust your gut. Feel free to involve me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or one of the other moderators in a private conversation with the other party, or just contact us off to the side if you have concerns. Some of the suspicious activity that we've seen includes: People answering a Want To Buy ad claiming to have what you want, or that they know a friend or family member who does, and offering to broker an exchange between you and them. When it is fraudulent, this sort of thing often quickly becomes ridiculously complex and harder than it should be to do a simple transaction. Your warning senses should start tingling. We insist that people never list an item for sale for a friend on TGO for a reason. First Person is simpler, easier and often safer. People asking if you will ship a gun to them out of state or if you require proof of residency. Shipping a gun out of state always requires that you send it to an FFL in that state. An in-person buyer has to be a resident of your state. Again, heed your warning senses. People asking you to send money to them via PayPal "Friends and Family". Remember, first of all PayPal doesn't allow you to pay for guns and certain other things with their service. If you do and you get hosed on a deal, you may have no protection with PayPal. Second, sending money via Friends and Family saves the recipient a measly 3% charge but it also means you get zero protection via PayPal if the other person hoses you. Strangers insisting that they meet you after dark, or at a remote location, or at your house or theirs. This is a big NO. Don't do this. People asking if they can send a friend to pick up a gun from you instead of meeting you themselves. This is also a big NO. It can quickly become an illegal "straw purchase". Again, trust your gut instincts. You have them for a reason. It's safer to heed them and risk offending a person than it is to ignore them and end up the victim of a scam or worse. In state con carry has no reciprocity. As an example, Vermont, the original Con Carry state, has no permitting system. Citizens of Vermont have to acquire non-resident permits from other states to allow them to carry outside of Vermont. So while I absolutely desire a true Constitutional Carry bill to pass, I will keep my permit as I do require the ability to carry outside of TN.

Thanks Chuck. I could see problems trying to explain your gun to an officer in another state if you didn't have an actual permit on your person. I believe I'll just keep renewing mine. I do see Snaveba's point. There are a lot of really stupid people out there. It does worry me some that there will be untrained people out there carrying guns. OTOH, there are a lot of them out there right now. Many. many people carry guns every day without a permit. I've known quite a few myself. I think this may turn into a self correcting problem. Once a couple of idiots screw up badly and the news media blows it out of proportion, Hopefully other idiots will reconsider there choices or at least study up on the law and go to the range once in a while. Also bear in mind that no sane person, no matter how stupid they are, wants to shoot anybody. Honestly, I think the one thing that would be the best answer would be to teach firearms training, handling and law to young people in our Public School system. But we all know that'll never happen.
