  1. Suppose you had a Grandfather that worked his whole life, veteran of WWII even who saw you as his favorite grandchild and left you his prized Colt Python .357, pristine and kept in the best repair and condition, (box and all) in his will. When the fateful day arrived and he went to his reward, no longer troubled with the scars of war and strife of life... The Probate of his Estate, meager as it was, consisting of his house and few possessions scattered about the multitude of his survivors, comes to fruition some months after his passing and you receive an RG .38. with cracked plastic handle, broken pawl. You contest the intent of the will only to be told by the Executor and Probate judge that you should be happy with the fact you go something akin to what your progenitor intended, and if you are savvy and toss in a lot of hard earned cash and trade up over the coming years at some point in the future you can possibly achieve the equal, if not exact item that was yours to begin with... I keep going back year after year, for decades now, to attempt to gain back that which our sires won for us from an overreaching tyrannical government, wrested with bloody hands and in fact due in great part to Tennesseans who would not take crumbs of their God given Rights to Liberty but at Kings Mountain shot and killed their rulers, bleeding and dying in the attempt to leave us with our Right to arms and true representation re taxes and being able to keep our property and some semblance of privacy. We are culls who have allowed scurrilous men to steal those hard won issues, kneeling and "taking what we can get" from their table. Legislators, off duty LE and judges carry with impunity everyday, wherever they wish Are they made of finer clay than we who simply work and die and shoulder the biggest part of the duty and payment for the society we now live in? Where Rights are chipped away successively, bit by bit and drip by drip, the water in the pot coming up to heat while we clamor about the good work of a legislature that knows we are due the full gift of recognition of the 2nd Amendment at least?

  2. Two amendments were offered by Republican's that changed the vague legally present language to the permissions in Enhanced permit carry, they were stuck down as being filed incorrectly, but they were in fact prepared by legal. I am the one doing the ads and please tell me where I have misstated any fact, that REAL Constitutional Carry includes long guns and the 18 year old an up provision? Did we think those had a chance, no, but our constituents want the REAL thing, while others are OK with something less. By the way, I have not once said I was against the Governor's bill , just that it needed to be amended. I take no pay for the efforts I make or have for the last 20 years. It sure is not making me an friends and has nearly cost me my livelihood, so any who think I am involved for any personal gain are incorrect. I am old and am going to die soon, and I want my grand children as well situated before I do as possible. Everyone who is involved knew the Governor's Bill was going to pass, they did not vote for the Republican Amendment by Jerry Sexton because leadership did not ant that minute change to wherever an enhanced permit carry allows and there are plenty of places in this passed bill that you can not carry that you can with the enhanced permit, like when you are bow hunting or in a number of parks, but those traps make work for lawyers.... If you ordered a pizza and wanted anchovies and pepperoni and you got chicken and pineapple would you be happy? A lot more work went into this attempt to get the right thing than any of you might know, or actually can imagine, and it will be years now before they take any of these issues back up. I have 20+ years in working these issues and for me, personally, I will keep my permit because I want to travel out of State and can afford it. Of far more import, Civil Immunity (HB 0025) passed with more votes then the Governor's bill and that one affects everyone regardless of their desire to have a permit or not. I have been working that bill for 15 years and got it through the House again tonight. So, while there were expecting me to raise sand about the "Constitutional Carry Bill", the real work for us guys who realize we are the only defense we have against crime prevailed. It did last year too, but the Senate refused to even take it up. They can't afford not to hear it now, it is by -partisan, I even got 6 Democrats to vote for it. The bluster and dust got raised about something they pushed back on what everybody admits is not the correct thing we should have, all the while the most important thing slipped under the door unnoticed.

  3. @Worriedman Thank you for your tireless work on this specific effort and those in past years. Tennessee is becoming more reasonable every year in regards to 2A rights because of what you do. I know it can be a thankless and controversial job, but it is not a job, you truly believe and fight, when you could easily be doing something else.

  6. There are not enough Democrats to do anything, they could hold their Caucus meeting in a dang minivan. Everything that happens for good or ill is the direct responsibility of the Republicans. You will notice that all "our" guys voted for the Governor's bill. I set about strategy to try to remove the most egregious portions of it last night before I left the Capitol, and you know there are parts that are not good. As long as I can drag my tired old fat hinney up those stairs and through the tunnel I will keep trying to get back to the 1796 Rights where it said Tennesseans have the Right to keep and bear arms without any qualifiers. Communities hung criminals as did the State and that cut way back on recidivism. In truth, looking at the dollars intended, this is merely an increased criminal penalties bill for those who actually look at the text, nearly $20million worth of increase. Gov. Lee is doing his best to turn criminals out at an astounding rate, giving them tax dollar paid for college and trade school classes to make them better citizens...revolving door funding with tax dollars of something, not sure what. Had they simply called it Permitless carry for some ion some places I could have accepted that. But to your point, I intend to fight another day, starting as soon as the gavel rang on this one.

  9. Good point above. I am in the process of putting in a Generac as I type this. One thing the people that built my house did was put a hand pump on the well where you could get water even if the power was out. You don't want to do it a lot, but it does give you the ability to get water for emergency purposes in a worst case scenario.

  10. Does nothing for me. Had my permit since you could get them and i have no intentions of letting it expire. Keep in mind CC in TN doesn't carry reciprocity to another state so if you travel and want to carry you'll need a permit. At least that's how I understand it.

  18. You do not need to carry the original and I would advise against it. You should keep a copy, physical or digital, with you when you have your NFA item in case it is requested by an ATF agent. How often do you encounter an agent? Rarely, but better safe than sorry.

  19. Yeah, it weird. We all know that $99 charbroil is really going to disappoint you. I think the key to a gas grill in my mind - is that if they make much of anything besides grills - you should just move on. Or, you can think about it like this. Go down the grill isle at your local big box store or someplace like academy sports. Who do they stock replacement parts for? Weber will have a whole section - because they're meant for you to be able to replace parts on. Anything steel that goes through heat cycles like that is eventually going to rust. So, choose a maker that's going to let you replace those parts - preferably without having to special order them.

  25. Watched 30 minutes or so of house going over the amendments on TV tonight. The pro representatives had good arguments. Several Democrats from Nashville and Memphis spoke against with pretty bogus reasons like loss of training for people carrying (the democrat compared the permit training being similar to military gun training) and the police associations be against it so a vote for was a vote against the men in blue. The funniest negative was a Democrat from Memphis that asked about not only the loss of income from fewer permits but the extra money in the budget. The fellow presenting the Bill explained that the increase was for the longer sentences for breakers of the stricter laws for stealing guns and longer sentences for other gun crimes. The Memphis rep said that didn't seem fair to increase penalties for people caught up with attractive nuisances such as guns being stolen from cars. Guess he didn't his voters put in jail.

  26. There are several of us that have shown support for this. I even called a few politicians to encourage them to pass it.

  27. Ok, so...ummmm dumbass question here: I've been kinda on and off following this, not expecting it to pass. Does the passing of this bill mean that everyone who can legally own firearms carry, or only those who can legally hold a carry permit, carry? I ask, because as a non immigrant alien (i'm sorry if y'all are all sick of this by now) I cannot get a carry permit, but I CAN legally purchase & own firearms (NFA excluded) I want, rather, need to know if this bill means I can legally carry, or if i'm still prohibited.

  33. I went with a Broilmaster when my old one crapped out. The last grill had all the features, rotisserie, indirect heat, infrared sear grill, blah blah blah never used any of it The Broilmaster is simply a grill, but very well made. Cast aluminum housing, stainless steel parts, lifetime warranty. I expect this one to outlast me.

  34. A person in TN that meets the requirements to get a permit, can carry legally without a permit. Some of the progress that has recently been made for permit holders, guns in parks for instance, will not extend to a permitless carrier. The fight hasn't stopped. We still have a little ways to go to get this to be true constitutional carry but this was the largest bite.

  37. It is what we asked for this year, see Todd's bill HB 1388 written by us and parsed through legal, simply removes the criminal aspect, it is up this week in subcommittee. I get the game. I work a 60 hr. week, have a daughter that is wheelchair bound that I have to see about constantly, a wife who had a kidney transplant 13 years ago and is very ill, and another daughter that just had her transplant...spontaneous mutation that got passed along to our kids that we did not know about when young and fertile. I use my vacation to travel to Nashville and now can do Zoom meetings with our friends in the legislature, the only upside to COVID I have found. I will rest when I am dead. Per the fundraising, we only spend money on helping good candidates in their campaigns and advertising for our issues. John donated copious hours at no payback of any sort to the effort. There are two Board members, he and I, and neither of us take a penny from the TFA, ever! I nor John are Wayne La Pierre. I agree we are not enemies, we just have different views on how to proceed. I have enough brown on my nose from my efforts over the last 20+ years to start a small truck patch...

  38. Another vote for a pellet grill. I bought a Camp Chef last year and love it. Like Mac said it has the ease of use as propane but with more flavor. I got one with the tech package and I can change my temp and smoke levels from anywhere with my phone. It is nice to be able to monitor a brisket when I run to the store. pulled these ribs off the grill a couple of hours ago.

  39. I’ve always been a fan of Weber grills - and had a Genesis C model for 20 years. We entertain a lot - and there’s no telling how many thousand burgers I cooked on that grill. I replaced the internal diffusers and what not twice - but it was a great grill. At the end of its useful life, I wanted to buy another one, but couldn’t bring myself to do it. The steel tariffs added about $150 to the cost and I just couldn’t talk myself into it. I’m glad I didn’t. I’ve got a BIg Green Egg and use it a bunch, but wanted the convenience of a gas grill that you can just turn on and grill. My mind was made up for me when Lowe’s put their Pit Boss pellet grills on clearance last year. It’s not gas - but it’s just as easy - and you get that wood fired taste. What really sold me (other than the fact that it was about half the cost of the Weber) was the thickness of the steel, the obvious build quality, and how well thought out it was. Both Publix and Kroger carry multiple varieties of pellets, so I gave it a shot. I love just being able to turn it on and set the dial to anything from basically a cold smoke all the way up to 500F. I’ve smoked briskets for 14 hours and not needed to refill the hopper. I can’t say enough good things about it. This is the one I have: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Pit-Boss-Pro-Series-820-sq-in-Black-and-Chestnut-Pellet-Grill/1000601215

  40. I've lived in 3 houses that were on well. 2 of them were great, the third one had a very high sulphur content and required extensive filtration. That filtration system was finicky and always needed something and the water so wasn't very good. The neighbors well wasn't 200 yards from ours and had really good water straight out of the ground. When it works, it's great. I had good quality water and didn't have a monthly water bill.

  47. TGO has unfortunately, from time to time, been visited by those who lack morals and ethics and would like to take advantage of the good graces and trusting nature of our fine members. This activity almost always seems to increase when social conditions are turbulent, especially if the turbulence is centered around the ability to find and buy guns or ammo. Lately we have had to boot a few people who were exhibiting suspicious behavior. We want you to be aware of this fact and to be sure to check a person's status on TGO before you commit to doing business with them as either the seller or the buyer. This is especially true if the other person encourages you to take communication with them "off the forum" and to email or some sort of instant messaging service. Before you buy or sell: Look to see whether they have have an active account or if they've been banned since you started talking to them. If you are going to meet to conduct business, do it during daylight hours and in a heavily trafficked, very public, neutral meeting place. Don't invite people to your home. Don't agree to meet people at theirs. MOST police and sheriff's stations have space at their parking lot where you can meet for selling and buying with strangers. Other good places are parking lots of busy business and in sight of their security cameras. Trust your gut instincts whether just when communicating online or meeting in person. If something feels "off" or "weird" - trust your gut. Feel free to involve me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or one of the other moderators in a private conversation with the other party, or just contact us off to the side if you have concerns. Some of the suspicious activity that we've seen includes: People answering a Want To Buy ad claiming to have what you want, or that they know a friend or family member who does, and offering to broker an exchange between you and them. When it is fraudulent, this sort of thing often quickly becomes ridiculously complex and harder than it should be to do a simple transaction. Your warning senses should start tingling. We insist that people never list an item for sale for a friend on TGO for a reason. First Person is simpler, easier and often safer. People asking if you will ship a gun to them out of state or if you require proof of residency. Shipping a gun out of state always requires that you send it to an FFL in that state. An in-person buyer has to be a resident of your state. Again, heed your warning senses. People asking you to send money to them via PayPal "Friends and Family". Remember, first of all PayPal doesn't allow you to pay for guns and certain other things with their service. If you do and you get hosed on a deal, you may have no protection with PayPal. Second, sending money via Friends and Family saves the recipient a measly 3% charge but it also means you get zero protection via PayPal if the other person hoses you. Strangers insisting that they meet you after dark, or at a remote location, or at your house or theirs. This is a big NO. Don't do this. People asking if they can send a friend to pick up a gun from you instead of meeting you themselves. This is also a big NO. It can quickly become an illegal "straw purchase". Again, trust your gut instincts. You have them for a reason. It's safer to heed them and risk offending a person than it is to ignore them and end up the victim of a scam or worse. And always, always contact me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or another moderator if you are concerned and just want a second opinion. We're glad to help. Stay safe out there!

  48. The following form is provided to members of TGO as a courtesy and is a recommended private party Bill of Sale for the transfer of firearms. Please note the emphasis on the word recommended. While this form certainly has benefits for both the buyer and the seller, there is no legal requirement for it to be used. Arguments For: In the event that the firearm transferred to the buyer is eventually used in the commission of a crime, the seller has a record of having performed reasonable due diligence to document who the firearm was sold to and that the buyer attested to being able to legally own the firearm. This document could be provided to the authorities if the seller was ever investigated due to having been listed on a Form 4473 as being the original purchaser of the serialized forearm. The buyer is likewise provided with a record of who sold the firearm to them in the event that the firearm is ever determined to have previously been stolen or used in a crime. Arguments Against: It is not required by law. Some buyers prefer private party sales simply because there is no documentation in the hands of a government entity of that transaction having ever occurred. The form may be downloaded from the attachment to this post. PrivateTransferForm.pdf
