  1. The Second Amendment was written to protect us from this but people tolerate the gradual erosion of our rights the same way a frog will tolerate the gradual increase of heat of water until it's too late and he is boiled to death.

  3. Well I got the shot around 1215 yesterday. I felt perfectly normal until around 10pm when I tried to go to bed and realized I had a mild fever. If I had taken their advice and eaten some Tylenol I probably would have slept ok. I didn't get much sleep but aside from that and a sore arm, I feel pretty normal today. CVS was very efficient. The entire process took around 30 minutes and half of that was waiting after the shot to make sure I didn't croak.

  4. I'll add: I test our contingency plan every single time I update the software by virtue of doing the software update itself. I have, on more than one occasion, had the software update go poorly and rolled us back to the previous state, instantly, with a backup. I know that TGO's plan works because I test it regularly and update it as things change and new options become available or old options phase out. It's a good habit that working in enterprise healthcare IT has ingrained for the past 20 or so years.

  7. We both have appointments for J&J shots tomorrow.

  8. I think the “once and done” nature of J&J is appealing to a lot of people. It creates a good response with one shot and is “known technology” in terms of vaccine development. For what it’s worth, both of my friends who work in immunology and public health were happy to find out I got the Moderna vaccine (luck of the draw, first shot). They both noted it was more effective against some emerging mutations that have folks like them worried. But, as a general rule, I would still proffer that people should get whatever vaccine is on offer at the place that’s most convenient to them. I would have taken the J&J vaccine if that’s what they had.

  16. Truthfully, what protects us (and them) in cases like this is just simple ol' planning ahead and having contingencies lined up. I appreciate the kind word and confidence, though. With our backups, I can re-home TGO elsewhere pretty quick if needed. The delay is in getting DNS servers to update, and there are some tricks that can make that give us a little extra control over that. Without backups, we'd be sunk. They would have been too.

  18. I am what I am. But my hose bibs sure as heck don’t leak. Truthfully, when I needed to replace the existing ones, the price of good freeze proof bibs was enough that two good quarter turn valves was less expensive. When winter comes around, I can just close the valve under the house and then open the one on the outside and drain that section of pipe. I’ve got good access to get under my house with basically standing room underneath - so what works for me may not work for someone else.

  19. I have never been iffy about the vaccine. I have lost a few folks too. I'm iffy about the manipulations for personal gain. Once this vaccine kicks in, Fuaci and all the Mask Karens can kiss my retired butt.

  20. I know some folks have been iffy about the vaccine. But, I’m thrilled every time I see someone get it. I’m tired of losing folks to this.

  21. This will give you insight into the type of person I am, but I put commercial quarter-turn ball valves on mine when they needed replacing. I also have shut offs with drains under the house that let me drain those lines come winter. They don’t leak.

We appreciate all of your support and patience! Expect plenty more powder and LOS Bullets. We will also be introducing a new Projectile line here soon offering 223 and 30 cal. -American Reloading They have a fair supply of projectiles right now and some brass, too. A lot of their projectiles are pulls. I just received 200 pulled 338 projectiles, and while a match shooter wouldn't want them, they'll be fine for my purposes.

  30. You can fix some of that issue by creating a "swale" in the backyard to draw water away from the house. MacGyver is right about the crawlspace, it's better for it to be above the yard grade for drainage purposes. In older houses, such as mine, the yard surrounding the house "grows" taller over time, due to degradation of clippings and such thus creating additional layers of soil. This leads to a crawlspace that is no longer above the outside grade, but below. That's an issue I'm about to deal with myself. Some areas will be fixed with some leveling/grading away from the house, others with the installation of some sort of curtain drain. I'm not looking forward to it, but it's time for me to address the problem, as lately water has begun pooling under my house during the monsoon seasons ...

  31. Sure is a nice condition old Marlin. And you have 2 interesting items there. The rear sight is an upgrade Marbles semi buckhorn with that dual ramp elevator and it looks like you got the old style wrap around hammer spur. Cant tell for sure from the picture but the newer spurs were a "C" type that clawed over the hammer. The old wrap around spurs were far more solid on the hammer and never would come loose unlike the newer so/so C spurs. The guy that hunted with that gun had a big hand. He sanded the point of the comb down some to accommodate his rather larger paw over the pistol grip. Those old meat guns are quite high at the shows these days. From the quality of your past posts, Thank God, it feel into some ones hands that will respect the Americana that just glows out of that ol girl! Great find.

  32. If you’re not getting water in your crawlspace - I don’t know that it really matters. If you are getting water in your crawlspace - a few inches of soil is also unlikely to matter much. That said, if you’re grading anyway - gently sloping away from the house at up to a 2% grade is better than flat. If you need to add a bit of soil to get there - that’s fine.

  35. As those Bartles & Jaymes guys used to say, “...and thank you for your support.” (I wonder if they’re still a thing?) The infrastructure to do something like this is way less expensive than it used to be - but it’s still not particularly cheap when you get the traffic TGO does. Benefactors literally keep the lights on around here.

  40. As a proponent of personal privacy I am in support of this legislation. I can purchase a handgun from another law abiding citizen and legally carry with out have to surrender a mountain of personal information to the state. This also saves money from having to pay for the class and the permit.

  42. Two amendments were offered by Republican's that changed the vague legally present language to the permissions in Enhanced permit carry, they were stuck down as being filed incorrectly, but they were in fact prepared by legal. I am the one doing the ads and please tell me where I have misstated any fact, that REAL Constitutional Carry includes long guns and the 18 year old an up provision? Did we think those had a chance, no, but our constituents want the REAL thing, while others are OK with something less. By the way, I have not once said I was against the Governor's bill , just that it needed to be amended. I take no pay for the efforts I make or have for the last 20 years. It sure is not making me an friends and has nearly cost me my livelihood, so any who think I am involved for any personal gain are incorrect. I am old and am going to die soon, and I want my grand children as well situated before I do as possible. Everyone who is involved knew the Governor's Bill was going to pass, they did not vote for the Republican Amendment by Jerry Sexton because leadership did not ant that minute change to wherever an enhanced permit carry allows and there are plenty of places in this passed bill that you can not carry that you can with the enhanced permit, like when you are bow hunting or in a number of parks, but those traps make work for lawyers.... If you ordered a pizza and wanted anchovies and pepperoni and you got chicken and pineapple would you be happy? A lot more work went into this attempt to get the right thing than any of you might know, or actually can imagine, and it will be years now before they take any of these issues back up. I have 20+ years in working these issues and for me, personally, I will keep my permit because I want to travel out of State and can afford it. Of far more import, Civil Immunity (HB 0025) passed with more votes then the Governor's bill and that one affects everyone regardless of their desire to have a permit or not. I have been working that bill for 15 years and got it through the House again tonight. So, while there were expecting me to raise sand about the "Constitutional Carry Bill", the real work for us guys who realize we are the only defense we have against crime prevailed. It did last year too, but the Senate refused to even take it up. They can't afford not to hear it now, it is by -partisan, I even got 6 Democrats to vote for it. The bluster and dust got raised about something they pushed back on what everybody admits is not the correct thing we should have, all the while the most important thing slipped under the door unnoticed.

  43. TGO has unfortunately, from time to time, been visited by those who lack morals and ethics and would like to take advantage of the good graces and trusting nature of our fine members. This activity almost always seems to increase when social conditions are turbulent, especially if the turbulence is centered around the ability to find and buy guns or ammo. Lately we have had to boot a few people who were exhibiting suspicious behavior. We want you to be aware of this fact and to be sure to check a person's status on TGO before you commit to doing business with them as either the seller or the buyer. This is especially true if the other person encourages you to take communication with them "off the forum" and to email or some sort of instant messaging service. Before you buy or sell: Look to see whether they have have an active account or if they've been banned since you started talking to them. If you are going to meet to conduct business, do it during daylight hours and in a heavily trafficked, very public, neutral meeting place. Don't invite people to your home. Don't agree to meet people at theirs. MOST police and sheriff's stations have space at their parking lot where you can meet for selling and buying with strangers. Other good places are parking lots of busy business and in sight of their security cameras. Trust your gut instincts whether just when communicating online or meeting in person. If something feels "off" or "weird" - trust your gut. Feel free to involve me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or one of the other moderators in a private conversation with the other party, or just contact us off to the side if you have concerns. Some of the suspicious activity that we've seen includes: People answering a Want To Buy ad claiming to have what you want, or that they know a friend or family member who does, and offering to broker an exchange between you and them. When it is fraudulent, this sort of thing often quickly becomes ridiculously complex and harder than it should be to do a simple transaction. Your warning senses should start tingling. We insist that people never list an item for sale for a friend on TGO for a reason. First Person is simpler, easier and often safer. People asking if you will ship a gun to them out of state or if you require proof of residency. Shipping a gun out of state always requires that you send it to an FFL in that state. An in-person buyer has to be a resident of your state. Again, heed your warning senses. People asking you to send money to them via PayPal "Friends and Family". Remember, first of all PayPal doesn't allow you to pay for guns and certain other things with their service. If you do and you get hosed on a deal, you may have no protection with PayPal. Second, sending money via Friends and Family saves the recipient a measly 3% charge but it also means you get zero protection via PayPal if the other person hoses you. Strangers insisting that they meet you after dark, or at a remote location, or at your house or theirs. This is a big NO. Don't do this. People asking if they can send a friend to pick up a gun from you instead of meeting you themselves. This is also a big NO. It can quickly become an illegal "straw purchase". Again, trust your gut instincts. You have them for a reason. It's safer to heed them and risk offending a person than it is to ignore them and end up the victim of a scam or worse. And always, always contact me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or another moderator if you are concerned and just want a second opinion. We're glad to help. Stay safe out there!
