  1. Ok, I've read thru the thread and all comments now. Re-read Dr. Atlas's comments twice. I found it to extremely well written and informative, laying out his opinions on the pandemic and how we have responded politically and socially. Now let me say that I do recognize Dr. Atlas from his many appearances on "news" as an advocate of former President Trump and sometime opponent of Dr. Fauci. So I tend to view this article with a somewhat slanted opinion...a very favorable one at that. So I will credit Darrell and ReeferMac for postings that got me involved. Ok, I agree with Dr. Atlas. That's noted. I think Dr. Fauci is a political hack at best. A conniving fraud with very vested interests in the Covid-19 pandemic at worst. But I would like to add to Darrell's quote from Dr. Atlas. I find it far more telling with the full statement and not just the last sentence of the quoted paragraph. "With social media acting as the arbiter of allowable discourse, and with continued censorship and cancellation of those with views challenging the "accepted narrative," the United States is on the verge of losing its cherished freedoms." This is the first sentence of the quoted paragraph. I find it telling and frightening. Now couple it with the next sentence. "It is not clear whether our democratic republic will survive--but it is clear it will not survive unless more people begin to step up in defense of freedom of thought and speech." For me, this is the meat of the article, and a harbinger of the coming days. Now couple this with the comments attributed to Nazi Joseph Goebbels. "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequenses of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." Any of this seem familiar? Oppressive social media telling us what is truth. Then banning anyone or anything that contradicts their version of truth. News media that worships the left. Deriding all things conservative. Censoring, or at the very least downplaying "civil" discourse and rioting. Seems familiar to me.

  2. Good for you, Greg. I think as long as they are sound, old guns should be shot occasionally. Heck, I have old ones from WWI & WWII (ie. M1 Garand, Mosin-Nagant, Mauser, 1911's) and some even older that I pull out once in a while to fire. I have given some friends and acquaintances great memories by letting them fire a classic. Enjoy.........

  3. It sounds like everyone here who wants the shot has gotten at least the first shot. I hope it works out for everyone and that my concern over the long-term (2-5 year) effects prove to be unwarranted.

  6. One of the miraculous things about the internet is that no matter what your opinion or point of view is that somewhere out there is an "expert" who will support your own previously drawn conclusions. It doesn't matter if you follow main stream thinking or if your opinions are somewhere out on the edge of the galaxy. Its simple enough to find "data" from "accredited sources" to prove your own opinions. After all, its on the internet, so it must be true.

  9. Howdy folks, recently relocated from the North East in pursuit of Freedom & Whiskey. I'm a lifelong handgun, rifle, class III, gunsmith/reloading enthusiast. Got a collection my wife thinks is about half of what it is. Looking forward to finding and spending time at some local outdoor spots + getting to know some fellow TN shooters.

  10. I bought this at a gun show a few years back. It came with a set of stag grips. I finally located original style grips for it. This was no easy feat. In case anyone isn't familiar, this is a Smith and Wesson Heavy Frame Target Model, also referred to as a Bekeart Model. I'm not sure the year of manufacture, but it is roughly 100 years old, and chambered for 22 Long Rifle. I've always wanted one of these, but never thought i'd actually have one.

  13. G21SF or the G21 Gen 4 with a grip reduction stipple job is one of my favorite 45 platforms. I shoot the crap out of mine. Closest thing to a Glock 1911 for my money. It costs a bit more but the end result is worth it IMHO. The Gen 4 and SF frame fits my hand well as is but, the reduced and textured grip is where it's at. Any good stipple shop should be able to reduce the Glock hump, delete the finger grooves and undercut the trigger guard. If you go with the compact, the 30s also accepts the 21 magazines. Don't know if that's an advantage to you or not but a data point worth taking into account. G36 felt too much like a G19 to me. In which case I'd rather have a G19. Good visual on that comparison here https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/glock-g19-vs-glock-g36.

  15. Just saw on the internet news page that everybody's favorite Cockwomble, Dr Fauci, has just lent his expertise to another issue saying that gun violence is a serious national health issue and citing recent "Mass Shootings" as a serious problem. Somehow, I never did expect him to be on our side.

  18. Well, I don't think I implied that. It would have to include myself as well. lol Seriously, I knew just enough to get a coherent question together, but I think I can see where an educated and trained person would find this useful. Sadly, I don't fall within those parameters.

  24. There are actually 3 Democratic senators who are on record as of April 12th who are against eliminating the filibuster (Manchin, Sinema (Az) and Leahy (Vt)), while another (Cantwell(Wa)) hasn't formally stated an opinion yet. There's little impetus for any of these 3 to change their mind, as by refusing to go along with changing the Senate rules they have effectively made themselves the most powerful sitting members of the Senate. In order for any Democrat bill to pass, these senators' demands must be met or the bill fails ...

  25. Wolf and Tula, like other manufacturers, make a variety of types and loads on ammunition. Wolf Gold, which is their brass-cased variety, is generally considered about as good as anything made domestically by many people. On the other hand, as greg pointed out, some guns don't seem to run reliably on steel cased ammo, however many Comm-bloc surplus weapons feed steel case ammo with no problems and some seem to even prefer it. Ammoseek is normally a good resource for finding in-stock ammo, but lately supplies sell out so fast that by the time their bots list it, it's already gone. Some stores don't allow their wares to be listed on Ammoseek and similar sites, Aim Surplus is one. Your best bet for finding supplies is to be on everyone's mailing list and be prepared to move quickly once the email blast goes out. Once the current shortage is over, remember the lessons learned and "but it cheap and stack it deep" as the saying goes so you won't be caught short-handed the next time we have one of these "sky is falling" runs on ammo ...

  26. I sometimes carry my larger framed guns at the 4 o'clock position in an OWB holster. I know I'm putting on weight when the grip irritates my fat roll in that area. I most often carry my Sig 365 at appendix position in a Stealth Gear Ventcore holster on a good leather gun belt. I like the hybrid aspect of the kydex/nylon holster material. I can put the holster in the washing machine and then let it air dry. I also like the belt clip. I have found on many kydex holsters the belt clips are too big or too rigid to allow for minor adjustments due to change of body position. On my Stealth gear holster I removed one of the two screws on the belt clip to allow the clip to swivel while not sacrificing any retention on my belt. In the appendix position the gun is at a place my hands naturally fall. This allows for not only rapid presentation of the gun if needed but also allows me to quickly get a hand on the gun to keep it pressed into the holster if someone were to try to disarm me. Another plus of this position for me is that when sitting, such as when driving, I can still easily access the weapon while wearing a seat belt. No need to remove the seat belt nor to twist and contort my body to retrieve the gun from the 4 o'clock position. The other issue I have with the 4 o'clock position in my vehicles is that the base of the magazine/grip digs into the upholstery. I don't want to mar my seats with wear through that constant pressure and abrasion. I found 3 o'clock position to get in the way of the seat belt and put uncomfortable pressure on my hip after a while as well as digging into the seat as already mentioned. 2 o'clock position keeps my from reaching into my pocket when standing and has the barrel end of the holster digging into the top of my thigh when seated. With the appendix position I find the holstered Sig 365 to fall nicely into the crease between my thigh and groin which is created when seated or raising my leg while standing.

  28. Thanks for sharing; I appreciate the link. Scott Altlas doesn't offer supporting evidence on masks being ineffective and is mainly grinding an axe because he was panned so being far out side the rest of the medical community. Maybe that is because he isn't a disease expert and he seems more focused on on social issues, which is not his training/specialty, either. I don't know why he claims to have no freedom to exercise his thoughts, etc, because he seems to have ample ability and platforms at his disposal, but I suppose some folks feel that way when their ideas are not accepted. One of his ideas was to simply let the disease spread through the population in order to develop "herd immunity". Could matters have been handled differently? Certainly. Did Scott Atlas have the answers? Certainly not. Is he allowed to speak freely an offer his opinion? Yes, contrary to his statements, he has been able to be in a position to promote ideas as a special advisor the the ex-president. And, in spite of his advice, the pandemic worsened and he later resigned. There may be some real debate about the efficacy of masks in some situations, however, social distancing, limiting gatherings and reducing crowd-sizes play a huge role in reducing transmission because you can't spread air-borne pathogens very effectively if you remove the people. On the bright side: the end of the tunnel is getting closer and it will soon be football time in Tennessee!

  29. I agree with @No_0ne. Once available, try as many brands as you can, in the bullet weight of your choice, for reliability and point of impact with your sights, on your chosen gun. The twist rate of your AR (5.56) should direct you to bullet weight ranges. I have a preference for Federal handgun ammo. But Federal, Winchester, Speer, Hornady, Remington (and several others) make quality ammo. Maybe they'll be readily available again... one day.

  31. I'm beginning to believe there are " code words ", " trigger words ", and " Manchurian Candidates " among us... These shootings are beginning to not look like coincidences to me. I'm beginning to think that this has little to do with " mental health failures " and alot to do with some real bad actors in some very important places causing things to happen that coincide with politically motivated pushes within gubmt.... That is all... sad and wonderin leroy...

  32. Good lesson here. I don't even talk to friends about how many guns I own. I don't like people to know when we're on vacation. When we have people over I make sure valuables(we don't have many ) are out of sight and guns are put away. Basically, the less people know, the better.

  33. One cup stacked inside the other. Fill cup. Leave about three inches of room at top. Get to the important stuff. Remove dry cup from bottom. Pour spiced rum about three inches deep. Pour slush puppy from other cup. Insert straw. Have a better day. Or....one would imagine that is perhaps the way to do it. I wouldn’t know.

  34. Its all about the West Side in Knox-vegas.... Third recommendation for the ORSA club, was a member there for a few years, fantastic place. If you shoot once a month, its worth the $$$ to become a member. Great facility, multiple ranges of every flavor (skeet, pistol, rifle, steel), and great people! Bench rifle range available to all members out to 200 yds, beyond that you need to join the High Power Rifle club (free), and access to longer range targets (up to 1000yds) is limited to certain days/times. My first year I was able to join without a sponsor, but I'd wager someone here would give you a tour and sign your application. We just need to verify all that Kalifornia Kraziness got dropped off at the Mississippi! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

  35. WDT, I didn't find anything locally. There's the guys in Loretto that billmeek mentioned, and I found a guy in Memphis, but no one around Nashville. Also, I can't find a local gunsmith who does bead blasting and seems confident of what he's doing. Maybe I need to start training for a new career.... Cheers, Whisper

  38. It ought to be noted - and this should get a lot more coverage - 14 days after your last vaccination, you are well protected against serious disease and are quite safe. You don’t need a mask to be protected from contracting a serious of Covid-19. And, what’s more - there’s a growing body of evidence that suggests that you’re not going to spread the virus to anyone else either. There was quite a bit of risk associated with the disease - but we’re just not awesome as a society about assessing risk. Once you’re vaccinated - the risk to you is quite minimal. That said, I expect to be wearing a mask through most of the rest of 2021. Two reasons for that: 1. Most of the businesses around me require them - and nobody making an hourly wage needs to deal with all that. 2. Were I to lose the mask right now - all the Brentwood soccer moms in Target would represent a far bigger risk to me than Covid-19 does.

  40. Another shortage caused by Covid. Over the past year, a combination of changing consumer needs and issues stemming from the pandemic has caused a variety of shortages. These supply issues have ranged from toilet paper to aluminum cans and even pepperoni. Now, garden gnomes can be added to that list. https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/garden-gnome-shortage-pandemic-suez-canal-blockage
