  1. Using TGO is free. Buying from someone on TGO is free. We don't charge for either of those things. The only way I can imagine we would charge anything for the ability to view Trading Post listings is if we had to charge some silly low fee like $1.00 per year in order to make you a "member" to work around egregious laws. Am I forecasting that or predicting that it will happen? NO. But I'm not stupid and I've been involved in businesses for a few decades now and I know that sometimes legal loopholes exist for businesses that operate as a fraternal organization and charge a small membership fee. Case in point? Many fraternal lodges are able to sell and dispense beer or alcohol on Sundays in states where such a thing is not allowed, by dispensing it to members of their organization only. We have tried to think strategically at TGO and have contingencies for the ever-changing political and legal landscapes. It's just smart. Back to the topic, if anyone feels guilty about something that's between them and their conscience. Ain't my fault.

  2. I've had several cheap ones and no expensive ones. The cheap ones have worked fine for me. I've had 5,7,8, and 12 foot nets. The smaller ones are much easier to throw for me. Interesting things I've caught - 4 pound largemouth - about 20 tilapia in a single cast at GSP. - about 10 white bass in a cast. Honestly, if I'm on bait, I have as much fun with a cast net as I do catching big fish.

  3. Hey Greg, I have been reloading in good and bad weather! It is a habit that I can't break, I see empty brass sitting here and there and it looks so much better with a primer stuck in 1 end and a bullet in the other.

  5. I tried eating gar last year and now it's the main fish I try to catch. The skin is hard as plastic and you need tin-snips to cut it open. After you get it open there are 2 long boneless loins on each side of the back. No need to gut it or skin it. The meat is odorless and firm like chicken. It's like alligator and I love it !!! This Gar was 3 feet long and both loins were around 15 inches long and nice and thick.

  6. The local Honda dealer has started trying to pull that scam. My wife went in for an oil change and even though her’s is an older model Accord, it doesn’t have nearly the number of miles where they USED to start saying to go synthetic. I told them to use regular oil and quit screwing around.

  7. I haven't bought squat in the past year or so. It'll show back up before long. As I've been reloading when the weather is bad, I would like to replenish my stock, but I've loaded enough ammo to shoot for a loooooooooong time.

  8. Adding to my comments on this. To set the mood for this...see my post above. When I had the RR done, I was told to stand in the shower and cut the little air bladder, then pull quickly. No problem. Won't feel a thing. Maybe a little tug or slight , short pain. Do it at home, he says. I'd had a pretty bad time with infections, so the catheter had been in for a like 6 days. The doc suggested that since my wife was a nurse she could do this for me. I was a bit reluctant about it at this point. It's ok, I can handle it she says. She was fine with it until the morning of the event. So here I am...standing in the shower of nice warm water. I clip the little bulb and say to her...ok, do it. She says No. I'm not doing it. So I'm standing there...like the old adage, with my roscoe in hand...looking at her, dumbfounded. Saying...but...but you said you would do it. Again she says No. You do it yourself. I'm not going to hurt you and have to listen to you complain. LOL It was funny. Now. Anyway, I took a deep breathe, held it, and got ready to do the deed. I exhaled. I pulled. I screamed like a little girl! They lied. It did hurt. More than just a little. Felt like pulling a half inch washer out on grass string. And that thing just kept coming as I pulled...swear it was 2 feet long! At least it felt that way. This is a true, and embarrassing story. I swear it. I did have a few things going on that made it worse for me, but the whole deal happened. Just this way. Now I know things are much better now. I may have to do this procedure again. I will check all the other options you guys have mentioned first.

  9. If you get the opportunity to get one of the flags, do it. I've gotten 3, one is in my reloading room, gave one to the daughter, and have one for mom next time I got visit. Super nice guy and takes pride in his work.

  10. Seems like every time a Colt revolver is mentioned, this old myth pops up. I have never seen a Colt revolver that was out of time. If you take half way decent care of it, a Colt will out last you and then some. The Police Positive Special is built on Colt's "D" frame. This is the same frame as the Detective Special and Diamondback series guns are built on. Its slightly smaller than the S&W "K" frame, but still holds six rounds. I'm quite fond of it. These are excellent guns and I wouldn't hesitate to carry one. In fact, I've been keeping my eyes open for a couple of years now for a nice one to buy.

  11. You know idiots like that is just what the gun community could do without. I had an old friend that commented several times about warning labels that we thought were stupid, he said if they didn't put them on the items, process of elimination would make the gene pool stronger.

  14. I have a 2018 F-150 and I just use the dealer since it’s as cheap as anyone else and close by. I also like the added things they do with “The Works” package and they use ford oil which I think is a sythetic blend and if anything happens, it’s on them. I’ve assumed that might be because of the twin turbos the 2.7L has. The wife drives a 2017 GMC Terrain with a 4 banger. She usually does the oil changes herself at a place she’s used for years and they use Havoline SAE 5W30. Today I was going to get it done locally at a Valvoline quick change. They, including the manager, told me I need to be using full synthetic like GMC specifies in all their engines since 2012 or risk severe engine damage. The difference in price is $39 vs $89 +tax for a 5 qt oil change. I asked “so what you’re telling me is your conventional oil sucks and doesn’t meet manufacturers specs...right?” He backtracked and said “oh no....our conventional oil exceeds manufacturers specs...blah blah blah...” I said, “That’s not at all what your telling me. You said if I don’t use full synthetic, I’m going to ruin my engine...”. Anyway, I took it to the other place and all is good. $50 bucks more for an oil change with the only difference being synthetic over conventional is rape in my opinion. What do y’all think?

  15. Synthetics are good if you're in the habit of going way over the regular oil change intervals. I'm talking double or triple the recommended miles. Synthetics do hold up longer. in fact, longer oil change intervals is one of the synthetics biggest selling points. However, if you keep even close to the recommended mileage, plain old cheap petroleum oils work fine. The truth is that its not the oil that breaks down. Its the detergents and additives that don't last and require changing regularly. I worked in fleets my whole career. We specified the oil weights, 5W30 for gas burners and 15W40 for diesels, but that was all. Otherwise we bought the cheapest bulk oil the distributor had at the time. Used the same oil in everything from lawn mowers to fire and garbage trucks to large earth movers. We also went 4000 miles between changes rather than the recommended 3000 most makers suggest. Never had a single oil related problem. And that was with some drivers who often didn't pay attention and sometimes let services slip for 8000 to 12000 miles. BTW: your local quick change place uses the same cheap bulk oil we did. They may have a specific brand that's on the sign outside. But its all pretty much the same. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Its good oil. Its just the cheapest stuff the distributor sells. They push the synthetic stuff for two reasons. One: its more expensive and makes them more money. Two: they realize that much of their clientele aren't real good at making regular scheduled oil changes. Some go years between oil changes. Another point you need to understand is that the quick change places don't make much profit on oil changes. That's just the hook to get you in the door. The real money is in all the extra services they can talk you in to buying. These guys aren't mechanics, they're salesmen.

  16. Bought an 06 ram, started using synthetic from day one. Got 325000+ on it right now. I’d take it anywhere. just bought a 13 Ford e350 (well nov a year ago), started it off right and switched it to full synthetic first chance I got. Just had the oil changed (at 14,000+), and it was still as slick as could be.

  18. Oh well....we’ll all be driving electric everything in a couple of years with no oil changes needed. Of course we’ll still need gas for the truck and generator that will rescue the electric vehicle that forgets to charge it up the night before...

  27. We stayed there a lifetime ago, and really enjoyed it. My son actually moved there a year or so ago, and they love it. When we went a long time ago, we stayed at a bed and breakfast. It was in a really old house in the historical district. They had bikes to use, and we would ride them all over town. It was great. If you have never done a B&B, you really should try it. You won't forget it. There is a horse drawn carriage ride that leaves from the Fort and drives all around the historical section. We really enjoyed that. It's all along cobblestone roads, so you get the clack, clack, clack of the wheels on that, plus the horses hooves. Makes for a neat experience. If you like to camp, Anastasia State Park has a campground right on the beach that is amazing. We've thought about going to the camp ground and not telling our son, just so that we could spend the week there all by ourselves (kidding).

  31. You might look at a S&W 642 unless you are looking for something longer than a snubby. From just my general obserbation the 2.5 barrel Police Positives do not show up as often as the 4 and 6. Not a real scientific observation though.

  36. I just have to say this...I have Never seen that many K22 pistols in that condition in my life! They are absolutely Gorgeous! I would love to own a couple of them myself, but just not feasible at this time. Anyone remotely considering a 22 should really look hard at these beauties! The K22 is an absolute gen in 22 revolvers. some even say the best ever. Not sure I agree with that last comment, but one of my best shooting(makes me look really good at the range) and a joy to shoot. I'm blessed to have my Dad's 4" Masterpiece and an early 60's 6 shot, 6" pistol. Last ones I sill ever consider letting go. So get yourself a real treat here!

  37. You guys make me feel ashamed. lol Value gotten from this site is immeasurable! Money spent at this site is worse than immeasurable!! So why do I feel ashamed? I bought the Lifetime Benefactor Membership just after David started the program. It was a special rate deal. I really don't even remember what that amount was. But I can tell you that it's been one of the best deals for a cost vs benefit decisions I've ever made. Not that I still couldn't have enjoyed, participated, bought and sold here way back then, but it's been a small amount to pay for all I've gotten in return. Yes the selling restriction has been added since I did the deed, but it still has been worth far, far more than I would ever have dreamed.

  38. I will say it. Quit being cheap asses and support a site that you come to in order to get the information you NEED, but yet you aren't willing to spend $35 to be a benefactor? Do you smoke, drink, drink coffee, or just have a hobby? Maybe I am way off base, but I waste $35 on week on stupid ####. You get a whole year. Quit being cheap! If you value the service, invest a small bit in it so it is here in the future when you need it again. Or maybe go somewhere else and find it. It pisses me off to no end to see people bitch about spending $35 but they don't flinch to spend $1000 on a new phone.

  41. Simple inflation. Rising cost for materials, labor, etc and so on. As far as I know, only Ruger has successfully created a polymer framed revolver and its butt ugly. Revolvers have gone up in price just like everything else. Then there is also the traditionalist view. Some folks just love the classic lines of a good revolver. Its just simple point and pull the trigger. No magazines, no safeties and no slide to rack. There's a quality and craftsmanship that goes into a wheelgun that no plastic fantastic could ever come near. Then there's the collectability of these fine old guns. Many die hard revolver fans just don't care for the changes made in the newer guns. MIM parts, two piece barrels and of course that damned lock. Older revolvers can often bring more money than the brand new ones of the same make and model. I collect Smith & Wesson revolvers and have a bunch of 'em. However, the 2nd newest revolver I own was made in 1996. It was one of the very last to still have the firing pin on the hammer nose. Very little S&W has made since then interests me at all. I do have one exception. My 2017 S&W 642. I wanted a lightweight J-frame .38 for carry. I found this at a really good price and its one of the few more current S&Ws without the damned lock. I also love the old Colts and have several of those. While the new Colts may be good guns. They've always been a bit too proud of that name when it comes to pricing. Bottom line: Why are revolvers so expensive? Because they're worth it.
