  1. Many years ago working at schools as an outside contractor, I asked a Police officer what was the difference between the knife I carried and the knife a student carried. The answer I was given was this, "mine is a tool, the student's is a weapon". The officer I asked also said at any time I could be charged with a weapons charge if needed. I carry tools every day, I get on the tarmac at the airport and schools grounds with a van full of tools, all can be used as weapons, some as WMDs. I for one am damn tired of worrying about what law I may or may not be breaking!!!

  3. From 1996 until 2018(?) if you wanted to legally carry a pistol on your person either concealed or openly out in public you got a HCP (Handgun Carry Permit). Then they created a CCP (Concealed Carry Permit) that requires concealed carry and has further restrictions than the standard HCP had and no reciprocity with other states. So the governor and legislature allegedly want to pass "Constitutional Carry" so instead of eliminating the one sentence in TCA that would make it possible they end up creating a new permit with less benefits and an ambiguous and confusing change to the law that now allows people over 21 who can legally own a pistol to carry them (most places but not public parks or greenways) but with further restrictions and it is all just a mess. Here's an idea that would not take a lot of legal or political gymnastics to accomplish. Make the ECP a TRUE "enhanced" permit. If you choose to take the class you can carry ANYWHERE not forbidden by Federal Law. ANYWHERE . Signs have no force of law anymore. You have reciprocity with other states. (I'd also suggest changing the "no alcohol" to simply "as long as you are under the legal limit to drive" like Pennsylvania and several other states but I also know that is very unlikely to happen) If you cannot afford the +/- $70 for the class plus the $100 for the Enhanced Permit or you just don't want to fool with getting it and you are a resident of TN (and you can legally own a pistol) then you would have the right to carry inside the borders of TN but with no reciprocity (not because I believe you shouldn't but because we cannot force other states to allow people from our state with no permit to carry there) but all other features and restrictions would be same as the current HCP is now. Pretty simple.

  5. It is not a perfect world. People don't all respect other people, or their rights . Some people commit crime. Some people don't like guns. Some people don't like people carrying guns. Some people don't like being around people carrying guns - even if they are uniformed police. Some people don't like it that some people choose to not helpless and some people (and businesses) are more worried about perceived liability and the bottom line than anything else. And while we should all be able to do pretty much whatever we want as long as it does not harm others we all know that that is just not reality. So having said all of that , Since apparently the legislature is not going to implement "Constitutional Carry" by simply removing from TCA 39-17-1307 "A person commits an offense who carries, with the intent to go armed, a firearm or a club." then we are operating under the hodgepodge of rules as currently written. And until they decide what exactly they are trying to accomplish with making it kind a sorta legal to carry without a permit in some places but not others then what I'd like to see is the signage have no power of law. They can ask you to leave at which point if you refuse you can be arrested for trespassing but the carrying past the sign would have no legal consequences. In fact I think a good way to get that ball rolling is to eliminate the restrictions on where you can carry if you have an "enhanced permit" or whatever they are calling the "standard" permit now.

  6. I just finished "Crisis" by Kurt Schlichter. This is the fifth book in his Kelly Turnbull AKA People's Republic series. Once again I have to praise Schlichter for an edge of your seat action thriller. I was captured by the story and breezed through it in just three days. For those unfamiliar with the scenario, these stories take place in the near future. The U.S. has had a Civil War in which its Conservatives vs Liberals. In the end, the country is split into two separate nations, The United States and the new ultra liberal People's Republic. These novels follow the adventures of Spec Ops operator Kelly Turnbull as he deals with special problems in this new world. This latest book "Crisis" is a prequel going back to the days just before the split. The country is on a razor's edge as both States and people are choosing their side. Either Red or Blue. Cities are being taken over and open warfare is erupting between the two sides. At this stage its a very active, but yet undeclared Civil War. The plot revolves around Merrick Crane III. A wealthy, powerful and totally evil leftist who claims to be working to free our nation from oppression. In reality, he's doing everything in his power to bring about a Civil War and set himself up as dictator of his vision of the new America. Turnbull is out to stop him. I've mentioned this series before in this thread. I'm a huge fan these books. They're well written, action packed and full of surprises. But the thing that really grabs you is the fact that its entirely plausible.

  7. Purchased new Nov 2020. New Price was $1,175 and worth every penny. Action is perfect for a carry revolver. This has been my home weapon and has only been shot at a range handful of times. Otherwise, it’s been kept in a safe. I have replaced the pinned in front sight, which had a tiny tritium insert with a larger Meprolight insert night sight. The replacement was professionally done. The original night sight is included as is the rubber grip, all original paperwork, and the original box. Also included: 1. D&L Gunsmithing combat fixed rear sight and a red ramp front sight. These are new and have never been installed. 2. Garrett Industries Leather lined IWB holster made for this model revolver Silent Thunder GT. Paid $80. I have no use for it, so it’s included at no cost if you want it. 3. Two Safariland speed loaders made for this revolver and a dual carry pouch. The revolver is as near to mint as a used weapon can be. If you are into revolvers this is one of the best Smith revolvers you will find. There are lots of YouTube videos about the S&W model 19 carry comp. $ in Maryville/Knoxville. FTF cash. TN carry permit required to make sure both of us stay out of trouble. I am also interested in trades for a 9mm range gun for classes (not interested in Glocks, as I do not care for the grip angle).

  9. Back to a complete rifle again- need to get rid of things. Location is Blackman/Murfreesboro. Wiling to meet within a reasonable distance, but my schedule is insane M-F, so those days are “you come to me”. Must be Tennessee resident/of legal age and willing to show ID. I accept cash and Venmo/Paypal. This is a private party transfer. I’m hopefully going to be thinning out my collection by a considerable amount. I’m just not shooting as much as I used to and I have some pretty good stuff collecting dust. I have lots of extra mags and other accessories available, although I’m probably not going to package any optics. Got the upper used on ar15.com from a Colt purist. I don’t really get any of that and have probably pissed on Sammy Colt’s grave by slapping this upper on a polymer lower. This rifle was brought to the range once, test fired, and stored. It’s a KE Arms KP-15 polymer lower that I absolutely swear by for weight, durability, and ergonomics. It’s 5 lbs, 8 ounces unloaded. Upper: Colt 6720 Barrel- 1:7 5.56 C MP Shiny 6 hole retro handguards A1 upper marked “P M”- I skimmed a mile long thread on a forum about the origin of these receivers, but I believe it’s Colt BCG included (phosphate- likely AIM Surplus, little use) New charging handle Lower: KE Arms KP-15 polymer lower receiver- extended hammer pin, QD rear socket Milspec Trigger 30 round aluminum USGI mag $680

  12. Back in the 70's my parents used to take me to a place like that but I have no idea if it was a franchise. The name of it was The King's Table and it had everything you're describing. Edit, I found some photos of other locations online. Apparently it was a chain and they were named "King's Table Smorgasbord"

  15. Yes sir it has last-round hold open. However, it has a paddle bolt release which requires to pull the bolt handle back and let it go to drop the bolt(unlike your ar-15 where you can hit a bolt release button to drop the bolt).

  16. That seems to be the usual case with book-to-movie adaptations. The current movie MONSTERS is a great example. I absolutely cannot believe how bad it was. Larry Correia's books in this series are great. Also one of the all-time stinkers for me...Raise the Titanic. Such a wonderful book. Read and re-read many times. Some of Clive Cussler's best work. The movie was one of the worst I've ever seen. ADD I agree about WWZ as well. No relation to the novel. Well not enough to make it any good.

  18. I wouldn't know anything about that but have I ever told you guys about the time that I was flying with Brian Williams in a helicopter over in Iraq? I think the year was 2003, we were taking enemy fire and forced to land. Brian and I barely made it out alive....

  19. The original (standard) permit which started in 96, is now referred to as the Enhanced Carry Permit - - - - simply a name change once the Concealed Carry Permit started in Jan 2020. Different certification processes. A few restrictions, the biggest being a CCP must be carried concealed only. Bottom line, anyone that had an HCP before Jan 2020 now has an ECP. The ECP is still available to anyone that wants to take the 8 hour class.

  20. Thanks for the commentary on the "Crisis" books. I have seen them and been intrigued, just haven't bought any yet. Have far too many lying around now that I'll probably never have enough time to read before I'm gone. Plus, I just started re-reading some of my older stuff. William W. Johnstone's Ashes series, and Jerry Ahern's Survivalist books. Also have A. American's Going Home, and Joe Nobody's books in line. Both are quite dated now, but still enjoyable for me. If you want some sheer trashy fun, try Mack Maloney's Wingman series. I can't believe I actually once bought the Wingman stuff. lol.

  27. Thanks for posting. I avoid amazon at all costs. I've had used items sent before. Not to mention their political agenda, which is enough for me personally. YMMV. +1 on Kenzie and Primary Arms. Had great service from both. I'd rather pay more and support a small company than save a few dollars and feed the machine. My 2 cents.

  28. Registration for the Sunday, June 20th 3-Gun Match at Dead Zero Shooting Park in Spencer, TN is now open! Please pre-register here if you even THINK you might attend: https://practiscore.com/dead-zero-may-3gun-match-sunday-june-20/register?fbclid=IwAR3jLhz31fMXGbcGjvYT6sTO7lJzKUA0j9DkQFlxmTl7RvtHfycorT1tLBI Walk-ons are always welcome, but pre-registering makes our lives easier. We have yet another new shooting location in the works for this month to keep things new and exciting. We'll keep the overall round count low because of the stupid ammo shortage, but keep raising the "awesome challenging stages" level enough to make up for it. Old School Outlaw Natural Terrain 3-Gun FTW! 2-gunners are welcome if you hate shotgun - just bring your rifle and pistol and whatever loadout you want to train in and join us!
