  4. I just heard that the Knox County Sheriff’s dept. will start having a free class the last Saturday of every month to help people understand what exactly permitless carry means. More details to be released next week. That is the kind of service more LE agencies should start providing as the misunderstanding about what this all means is astounding.

  5. Very true, And for what it's worth, Tennessee's best BBQ isn't found in Memphis anyway, but scattered across a 30-40 mile corridor along the Tennessee - Mississippi - Alabama lines, in a bunch of grungy little mom and pop stands nobody ever heard of ...

  13. Henry Goldenboy 22LR lever action rifle and extra stock-and sight set's which include a set of Skinner rear peeps with extra peep inserts=front crosswire brass sight and the factory sight. Currently on the rifle is a set of Fire-sight fiber optic opens. My eyes no matter how much I try will allow me not to shoot with any accuracy- So up for sale or trade for a scope able bolt action of better quality-like a Ruger American. Asking $375.00 firm or trade option of same value. Not willing to drive so stay in the Memphis area FTF- Interested parties can PM me or E-Mail krunchnik@hotmail.com. Now for the must see pictures.

  15. When I lived in Pascagoula, Ms. in the early 70's there was a black man that had a 55 gallon drum turned into a PIT MASTER!! On Friday's he would cook ribs and made what he called rib sandwiches, which is 2 pieces of white bread and about 4 ribs with the bone in stuck in the middle. He cooked at the back edge of a shopping center on a little side street. That was some lip smackin pig popsicles!! Fast forward to the early 90's and a customer's dad had a little BBQ place out in the sticks right next to his house and he had probably the best ribs. He was an older black man and me and him hit it off the bat talking about catching bluegills. He said the first thing to cooking good ribs is having a good rib, he said a #2 rib was his choice, the bone isn't too big. Makes my mouth water, when I cook my ribs tomorrow I will think of these gentlemen who were bbq masters!!

  16. That list was obviously made by a yankee. But I'm afraid I have to agree that Memphis Bar-B-Que has gone downhill for a while now. Ain't what it used to be. And the older, once great BBQ restaurants are now little more than tourist traps.

  17. ^^^^ This. I made friends with an Alabama pit master outside Birmingham once. Great big 'ol black guy, nicknamed "Tiny" of course, that had a walk up window concrete block shack near all the truck yards. Once told me he gave me a little extra to take home since I should not come back after dark. "Skinny white boy like you won't last long out here after dark" I think was about what he said. Great pulled pork!

  18. If your calls for NRA donations have an uptick soon, this is probably why. https://thereload.com/nra-creates-fund-to-protect-directors-as-llyods-of-london-fails-to-renew-insurance/ It's firmly into the wonky side of things, but it represents a real problem for the NRA because it takes the risk and liability from corporate to personal. I'd love to learn what kind of tail coverage is on the table as well. The big question is if Lloyd's had real, legit enough pressure to do this bearing down, or got out of the way on their own accord.

  19. Leading off with Dickey's probably wasn't the best way to get serious barbecuers to take them seriously (as if you could actually convince anyone who's serious about their barbecue). That's like saying the cities with the most McDonald's has the best burger

  22. Honestly, nothing that goes on in California, remotely interests me anymore. I saw what the San Jose Mayor proposed the other day and immediately thought that it would never survive the first court appearance. IMO, the counties that want to leave California and form their own state, should be allowed to, along with counties in Oregon and Washington. Then California should be encouraged to form it's own country. Maybe take Hawaii and and the other parts of Oregon and Washington with it. But no one cares what I think.

  24. Many years ago working at schools as an outside contractor, I asked a Police officer what was the difference between the knife I carried and the knife a student carried. The answer I was given was this, "mine is a tool, the student's is a weapon". The officer I asked also said at any time I could be charged with a weapons charge if needed. I carry tools every day, I get on the tarmac at the airport and schools grounds with a van full of tools, all can be used as weapons, some as WMDs. I for one am damn tired of worrying about what law I may or may not be breaking!!!

  26. Was just notified that by TBI that if you have had a DUI in the last 5 years or 2 DUI's in the last 10 years you will not pass the TICs check to buy a firearm. I read the law about going armed. I do not condone getting a DUI and believe that if you are under the influence while driving that you should be prosecuted. What I do not understand is what that has to do with the fundamental right to defend yourself with a firearm. A DUI is not a felony charge with the exception of a death involved (which in that case would then prevent you from purchasing a firearm "felony"). So why for 5 years are you prevented from purchasing a firearm to defend yourself because you made a bad decision (non-violent crime) one time? This is not right and not what I believe Tennessee should be allowing!

  28. I do too. I also like night shooting. This is my Charles Daly HiPower that I purchased from a member here. I had it milled to accept a Holosun 507k and had him install the Dawson Precision rail that’s designed for the 1911 and Surefire X300V-A. Then cerakoted black. This gun is a total one off I’ve never seen any other one modded like this. I can’t wait to get it out under NODS.

  29. Sounds like most everyone is having pretty good success. I thought my pepper plants were going to die back when we had all that rain. I put some calcium nitrate around each one and I don't know if that is what helped or drying out did the trick. Picked 1st grape tomato Saturday, pulled carrots up and blanched them and put them in freezer and should pick yellow squash, zucchini and cabbage by end of this week. All my veggies in raised beds, potatoes, green beans, cucumbers. For those that haven't tried it a fall garden is sometimes more productive because the pests and diseases aren't as prevalent. I have been doing 2 plantings of green beans for 4 or 5 years. Plus the brassicas like cauliflower, broccoli, carrots all do well. Glad everyone is getting some nice tasty returns for your labor.

  31. Last month I went back to K.C. for a week to do some honey-do's for my MIL. While there, I went to the Hyvee - a grocery store that I wish would come to Murfreesboro - and saw several local brands of BBQ sauce of which I've never heard. For those who have never heard of Hyvee, they make our local grocery stores look lame as hell.

  36. Hello folks, Glad I finally jumped on board with the TGO community. Seems to be some down to Earth, gun toting, conservative patriots hanging around here... just like me. I'm not much on social media (never had a Facebook and don't want one), and I'm only on one other site. That's why it took me a while to join. But, like I said, I'm tickled to be a part of it now. Btw, some of the members here already know me from the other site I referenced. I love to chase big ole bucks around and I am extremely passionate about mid to late century shotguns. Heck, I might even be able to offer up a hunting lease to our members occasionally. I live in Northern Sumner county and I've been a proud Tennessean all my life. Looking forward to making some new friends and possibly do a little trading. Thanks for having me. Kevin (BigSatt)

  40. About like the daily 2 or 3 calls wanting to extend my warranty on my car. The newest vehicle I own is a 2006 Buick Lucerne, I don't think they really want to warranty it!! Pretty much if you call me and your name isn't in my phone you better leave a message noting who you are or you get deleted.

  42. I think if I had a reloading setup, I’d skip .410 and go straight to a gentleman’s 28 gauge. On the question of 2.5 or 3”, the easy answer is that you can kill any squirrel with a 3” that you can a 2.5” - the same isn’t true in reverse. Once you get outside of whatever that effective range is - the efficiency of the 2.5” is going to fall off a lot faster. The more nuanced answer is to pattern both and be cognizant of missed shots in the field and really ask why you’re not knocking squirrels out of trees. I expect you’ll wind up with 3” loads.

  45. Yep, in Florida all carry is concealed carry and I found myself in a couple of places where weapons were not allowed. I had something else on my mind and just walked right in. When I finally realized I was carrying I just stayed in line. As noted above, concealed means concealed.

  46. From 1996 until 2018(?) if you wanted to legally carry a pistol on your person either concealed or openly out in public you got a HCP (Handgun Carry Permit). Then they created a CCP (Concealed Carry Permit) that requires concealed carry and has further restrictions than the standard HCP had and no reciprocity with other states. So the governor and legislature allegedly want to pass "Constitutional Carry" so instead of eliminating the one sentence in TCA that would make it possible they end up creating a new permit with less benefits and an ambiguous and confusing change to the law that now allows people over 21 who can legally own a pistol to carry them (most places but not public parks or greenways) but with further restrictions and it is all just a mess. Here's an idea that would not take a lot of legal or political gymnastics to accomplish. Make the ECP a TRUE "enhanced" permit. If you choose to take the class you can carry ANYWHERE not forbidden by Federal Law. ANYWHERE . Signs have no force of law anymore. You have reciprocity with other states. (I'd also suggest changing the "no alcohol" to simply "as long as you are under the legal limit to drive" like Pennsylvania and several other states but I also know that is very unlikely to happen) If you cannot afford the +/- $70 for the class plus the $100 for the Enhanced Permit or you just don't want to fool with getting it and you are a resident of TN (and you can legally own a pistol) then you would have the right to carry inside the borders of TN but with no reciprocity (not because I believe you shouldn't but because we cannot force other states to allow people from our state with no permit to carry there) but all other features and restrictions would be same as the current HCP is now. Pretty simple.

  47. The original (standard) permit which started in 96, is now referred to as the Enhanced Carry Permit - - - - simply a name change once the Concealed Carry Permit started in Jan 2020. Different certification processes. A few restrictions, the biggest being a CCP must be carried concealed only. Bottom line, anyone that had an HCP before Jan 2020 now has an ECP. The ECP is still available to anyone that wants to take the 8 hour class.
