  2. I think this is related to the fact that really good barbecue is specifically about a really good pit master. It's like asking Picasso's kid to carry on painting like their dad - it's just not going to be the same. Any restaurant with BBQ on the sign ought to be able to do reliable, decent pork shoulder as sort of table stakes. But, two things will kill it - one is a pit master who doesn't eat, breathe, and love the art of barbecue. Second, and directly related to the first - the moment you open that second location you've got a heavy lift that's going to be hard to do reliably. It's just hard to scale good barbecue. That's undoubtedly why the best barbecue is in single location restaurants in places where the rent is lower.

  3. Just as an FYI, we are at about 31/100 (31% complete) on the regeneration of the search index and about an hour and a half into the process. I would guess that we will finish that process somewhere during the early afternoon hours today.

  5. I do too. I also like night shooting. This is my Charles Daly HiPower that I purchased from a member here. I had it milled to accept a Holosun 507k and had him install the Dawson Precision rail that’s designed for the 1911 and Surefire X300V-A. Then cerakoted black. This gun is a total one off I’ve never seen any other one modded like this. I can’t wait to get it out under NODS.

  6. I like the Holosun. Some folks find it busy, but I like the eotech style donut of death reticle. It’s solid, well built and only second to the trijicon with regards to ruggedness.

  9. Funny you should mention this as there was an article back around February on restaurants and what happens when the next gen steps in to take over or in some cases another person buys it and keeps the name. A lot of bbq joints went downhill or just shut the doors not long after the founder passed or sold it. Bbq is truly a labor of love.

  12. Tonight, we went to the first annual bluegrass festival in Millersville. The community center there is nice, the crowd was small, and it was free. The talent was amazing! My wife saw it on facebook back in the spring and put it on her calendar. We could find nothing else about it. I definitely plan to go next year. That’s a nice little community right out of Nashville. Everyone was friendly. I noticed no one left amy trash lying around.

  14. I’d be willing to bet there aren’t 1000 dual-illumination RMRs out there with more than 100 rounds on them. They sound like a great idea - and they are within the right use case. But they really don’t solve a problem that the regular RMR and a pair of backup irons doesn’t. It exists to sell on GSA contracts and to folks in the private space who’ll spend more if you show them how.

  15. I had a boss who carried everywhere, including military bases. He always said, they won’t know I have it unless I need it, and at that point I’ve got bigger worries than a gun free zone. He paid close attention to keeping it concealed, probably more than most of us.

  20. I have upgraded us to the latest version of the forum software this morning. There are some new features that I still need to configure before they are available. There are also some subtle changes we may notice as we use the software in the days ahead. One thing to note is that the forum's search index is being regenerated. This process takes several hours. While the index is being regenerated, you will find that keyword searching may not work very well.

  21. Fired about 10 rounds, 3” chamber, 21" barrel , it has the Remington thumbhole camo stock, a Headbanger choke, and ghost ring fiber optic sights. Have another stock for it (non-thumbhole), box, and papers. Excellent condition. $400 SOLD

  22. Oh for the days of the Full Moon Bluegrass Festival. Not the one that was at Percy Warner Park, but the one back in the 80’s on the farm off Old Hillsboro Road. Those were some good times and GREAT music. John Prine would even show up on occasion.

  23. BTW @Garufa Rat Snakes come in different colors: black, yellow, and grey with the yellow having a completely different pattern. They emit a musky stench when defending their selves. I just removed a grey one from my back yard last Saturday, and two of my dogs decided that they wanted to roll in the stench left in the grass were I had picked up the snake.

  24. Personally think that Surefire is a bit to large for the frame, but really like the Holosun aon the slide and the new grips. I have an older MkIII that might benefit from some changes like this.

  26. Bryant's went way down hill after Arthur Bryant died and his daughter took over. I think that happened in the early 80's.

  27. We were in KC a few weeks ago. We tried Arthur Bryants and it was barely passable for decent BBQ. Then we went to Hog Jawl Que and Brew and KC BBQ was redeemed. We were pleased and impressed and would eat there again when we are in the area.

  28. When I lived in Pascagoula, Ms. in the early 70's there was a black man that had a 55 gallon drum turned into a PIT MASTER!! On Friday's he would cook ribs and made what he called rib sandwiches, which is 2 pieces of white bread and about 4 ribs with the bone in stuck in the middle. He cooked at the back edge of a shopping center on a little side street. That was some lip smackin pig popsicles!! Fast forward to the early 90's and a customer's dad had a little BBQ place out in the sticks right next to his house and he had probably the best ribs. He was an older black man and me and him hit it off the bat talking about catching bluegills. He said the first thing to cooking good ribs is having a good rib, he said a #2 rib was his choice, the bone isn't too big. Makes my mouth water, when I cook my ribs tomorrow I will think of these gentlemen who were bbq masters!!

  30. I just heard that the Knox County Sheriff’s dept. will start having a free class the last Saturday of every month to help people understand what exactly permitless carry means. More details to be released next week. That is the kind of service more LE agencies should start providing as the misunderstanding about what this all means is astounding.

  37. About like the daily 2 or 3 calls wanting to extend my warranty on my car. The newest vehicle I own is a 2006 Buick Lucerne, I don't think they really want to warranty it!! Pretty much if you call me and your name isn't in my phone you better leave a message noting who you are or you get deleted.

  40. OH MY!! Both absolutely beautiful! Things have kept me away quite a bit lately or I would have been in this hunt too! Love the length of #2 and the coloration of #1. It would have been a hard choice, but I would have gone with #2. Maybe someday my timing will get better.

  43. Years ago I bought a RG .22 from a co-worker for $10. I took it to the range and usually four of the six rounds would fire. At 7 yards, I probably would have gotten a better group throwing rocks. A week later, I took it to a gun buy back in Memphis and got $75 worth of grocery and gas gift certificates for it. See, they do have their uses. A few years ago, my disabled lady friend asked me to look at her gun. It was a RG .38. You had to hold it a certain way to get the cylinder to advance and the timing was so bad, I didn't dare shoot it. I traded her a well used, but completely functional S&W Model 10 for it. I was going to destroy it, but a dealer friend convinced me to sell it to him for $75. Believe it or not, he sold it for $100 and the buyer knew exactly what it was and what was wrong with it.

  45. I'm sorry. Lone voice of dissent here. If you can't smell these scams from a mile away, then I have some ocean front property in Arizona.... These PMs are a slight nuisance, but I have always thought haggling and bartering was best done in PMs, not in the thread. Without the ability to PM, you get people offering trades that could just as easily be viewed as bypassing Purchasing benefactor status. Either way is fine. The fact that you ask for input is another monument to the real community of this site. Thanks!
