Got my third shot yesterday. Hospital my wife works for thawed viles to administer to immunocompromised patients and had some leftover that were bound for the trashcan. As someone with asthma, I don't want any virus that attacks my lungs, and being at the 9 month mark since my last Pfizer shot I went an got another. Rest assured while some of yall are out there trying to decide to take a vaccine or not I'm over here being a voluntary lab rat. If it means I don't suffocate to death over a 5 week period I'll take the chances.

For a handgun, I don't think you could go wrong with a S&W model 422, 622 or 2206 if you can find one. Because of the barrel configuration you can still use the original sights. There is already an adapter that you can get for $25 or $30 bucks.

If people wanted balanced, factual news, it would be the dominant form of news available. The market simply provides what people actually want. So if you ever want to know what someone is really about, ignore what comes out of their mouth and pay attention to how they spend their time and money.

Patience and persistence finally paid off. Today she bought a 2000 Ford Taurus SES. Body and interior are in excellent condition, runs good and everything works. This is the upper end of the Taurus line and has power everything. It needs a couple of tires and the windshield has a crack, But she only gave $2000 for it. She has plenty of money left to take care of those little things.

Literally the first time I've used my shotgun since opening day last year! I got just short of a limit at 13, in Bledsoe country over a cut wheat field. Not as many guns as last year (I think maybe 35 a compared to 120+) Had great action from 12 to 12:30 then hit the usual afternoon lull until 4. It took me a full box to bag my first, but after that I averaged 3 shells to a bird. Still making it the most expensive game meat there is! I may try to get out Saturday afternoon as well, but I don't know of any local fields worth the drive.

I wanted to build a Shughart M-14 because if you’re gonna have one, it might as well be one modeled off the one used by one of the baddest men to wield it. I started with this M-14 clone from Bula Defense. Mounted an ARMS-18 optics rail and an Aimpoint CompM. I then acquired a surplus M-14 fiberglass stock. The army boys sure do love their duct tape. Once I got it stripped down, it was time to paint! As it sits now, it’s in what I refer to as the “movie configuration” ad it’s similar to what was used in the Black Hawk Down film. The CompM will end up coming off and being used on a retro AR build using the original hi-rise optic mount (carry handle gang gang). As of now there are a couple of bits that are either on the way, or requiring a little detailed work to mount. (Waiting on rings for my Aimpoint 5000 and the AIM-1/D needs a tape switch fabricated for it.) Updates to follow as the build is adjusted/completed.

Am I the only one who thinks gun shop help has dropped off tremendously in the last 5-6 years? Now it seems they're more mouth breathers than guys who love & know guns. I was in a LGS this week, trying to buy rings for a Remington Nylon 66 & a 4X scope. Counter help pointed to a ring set & said "These are all we have." I told him, "No, you have a set of Leupold rings right there. Let me see those." I knew his inventory better than he did & I was there only 5 minutes. The Leupold set were split from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock instead of 3 to 9, I told him FOUR times the scope needed to be inserted FIRST so I could see if the front bell cleared the rear iron sight. Once the rings were on, they can't be spread enough to ease the scope in. Instead he ignored all FOUR requests from me & proceeded to slide the front ring on & finger tighten the clamp. He then stood up like he was proud of his accomplishment & looked at me. I asked him "Now, HOW do I get the scope on in order to check the rear sight clearance?" He had a deer in the headlight look. I packed up my rifle & scope & left the store, buying nothing. Yes, I know good help is hard to find. Yes, I know covid, covid, covid. Yes, I know a store can only hire those whom apply. But holy crap, is this the level that gun shops have had to sink to these days for hired help? I also mention this is a pretty good sized store & this guy was the only sales staff on the floor. No clue if others were in the back, had a day off or what. I wonder why they can't get some crotchety old retired guys in there to "humbug" their way through the day. Used to work in the old days. Or am I becoming a crotchety old man because the help ignored my request four times?

A fourth possibility is that the 39 people were ones who were already severely sick from something else like cancer. Maybe they had some underlying conditions. Hopefully your daughter will be fine. Can she get that antibody infusion from her doctor?

Prayers to your family on a speedy recovery

I heard on the radio today that there have been 39 deaths from break-out COVID in the state. At first I was shocked until I thought about it a bit. 1. The people who died could have been part of the 5% of people on whom the Pfizer/Moderna's vaccines are not effective. 2. The people who died could have been part of the 28% of people on whom the J&J vaccine is not effective. 3. The infections were truly breakthrough infections, and for some unknown reason the vaccines did not give lessened COVID severity as advertised. This makes me wonder what that percentage is. One of my fears has come a reality. My granddaughter brought COVID into the house, and now my disabled daughter who was advised by her doctor not to get the vaccine because he didn't know how it would affect her neurological disorder now has COVID. Fortunately, for now she's OK.

I tend to read CNN, Reuters, AP, BBC News, Politico, The Hill, and Propublica. If someone posts an article from a source I dont recognize I go and do a media bias check from two or three bias checkers to see what the consensus is.

I try to read CNN's website daily because I want rounded information. Just as CNN has an obvious leftist slant, so Fox has an obvious slant to the right. I figure the more information I get from as many sources as possible the better I can make informed decisions, not that it seems to do much good to vote. The one I just can't read is MSNBC.

Width is a small part of stability and capacity. Hull design and seating position play a larger role. My wider Native is less stable than my narrower Wilderness Systems. That is partly due to the higher seating position of the Native. The Wilderness System has a lower seating position that gets me closer to the waterline. At 6'3" 250lbs+ I have not had a real issue in either but the WS is faster, more stable, and less susceptible to wind. I have managed to flip a supposedly ultra stable Hobie in a Florida bay chasing reds in some wind and chop. All that said one of the most comfortable and stable kayaks I have paddled is a Kaku Wahoo. The seating position was fairly high. The open deck was really nice and overall it was very nice to paddle. I was on a 10.5 but they now have a 12.5 option as well.

It was already harvested but still had plenty of melons. I'll be hunting that field in Saturday, I understand they bush hogged it this year after harvest. Doesn't make sense to me that they were attracted to watermelons, but I'd never seen that many birds in a day before.

I had reason to visit the Cumberland County hospital on Monday afternoon and I was shocked to see a packed waiting room, people were warehoused in there until a bed became available upstairs. The poor staff were running pretty hard. But I saw two problems that really should be addressed somehow: One floor was entirely vacant due to lack of staffing (I was told), and ER's are misused by people who don't have insurance and know they can't be turned away. But even with short staffing and a packed waiting room the staff saw me right away and got me taken care of, so the system has some safeguards in-place. In these times, our medical community are, quite literally, lifesavers.

Those politicians only improve one thing... their own personal wealth. The parties have different mechanisms, and the same outcomes. I'm tired of feeding these bastards. And YES, I am drawing SS money that I PAID IN. I will be dead way before I get what I paid in, much less any interest.

Hate to bust your bubble. An unfinished or original pistol like yours is worth more than the very nice looking pistol you have now. I have run a refinishing shop for many years and tell the customer it’s worth more if I don’t touch it on some firearms. I know you don’t plan on selling it, so it’s a mute question. Enjoy.

They are the real deal and as much of technological leap as optics were on rifles. My preferences are as follows. Milled slide > plate system. Direct attachment allows for a lower profile and a more solid mounting. Either purchase a new, precut slide, or whole new gun designed for the optic you want. If you decide you don’t like it, you can put the original slide back on and sell the aftermarket slide for a lower loss than a gun with a chunk missing from its OEM slide. For the optic, Trijicon RMR or Holosun. Everything else just comes up short. I have no opinion on the taller iron sights as my optics sit low enough in the slide to utilize the OEM standard sights. Only my opinion, and worth what you paid for it.

Simple rule of thumb for me, if my gun is not welcome, I am not welcome.  Same goes for my wife.  let me explain that one, she is blind, has a guide dog and we have been turned away from many well known restaurants, such as TGIF, I do believe in talking to the owners and trying to convince them that no gun signs are a sign of magical thinking.  I ask them, do you really think that your sign will stop a bad guy who is desperate from robbing you, or an ex from coming in and shooting one of your employees or customers?  if they are honest, they say no, it wont.  Then ask, do you think it would prevent me from eating here?  spending my money at your establishment?  I have been back ground checked, not a felon, and I carry for my protection and my family protection only.  Do you have a problem with that?  They will probably say no.  I have seen signs come down here in OKlahoma because I asked these questions.   One response I did get was "I have the signs up to get a 10% discount on my insurance"  I now carry a little folder, with the red circle and line drawn through it with a tornado in the middle.  I tell them this sign should get you another 10%, and it will be just as effective or even MORE effective than their no gun sign.   We cant be silent, but we can be polite.   You be the difference!!!!  

Hi. I lived in the county but in a subdivision i have four dogs and alot of evenings at dusk there are gun shots at property next to me. Is this legal? Yes we are county but lots of house kids and dogs. I cant sit outside for this alot. I would just like to know if nothing else its not courteous - my dogs are scared and although its their property its pretty close to several of us.
