  6. https://www.fayobserver.com/obituaries/m0028451 Renay Mandel Corren El Paso, TX—A plus-sized Jewish lady redneck died in El Paso on Saturday. Of itself hardly news, or good news if you're the type that subscribes to the notion that anybody not named you dying in El Paso, Texas is good news. In which case have I got news for you: the bawdy, fertile, redheaded matriarch of a sprawling Jewish-Mexican-Redneck American family has kicked it. This was not good news to Renay Mandel Corren's many surviving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom she even knew and, in her own way, loved. There will be much mourning in the many glamorous locales she went bankrupt in: McKeesport, PA, Renay's birthplace and where she first fell in love with ham, and atheism; Fayetteville and Kill Devil Hills, NC, where Renay's dreams, credit rating and marriage are all buried; and of course Miami, FL, where Renay's parents, uncles, aunts, and eternal hopes of all Miami Dolphins fans everywhere, are all buried pretty deep. Renay was preceded in death by Don Shula. Because she was my mother, the death of zaftig good-time gal Renay Corren at the impossible old age of 84 is newsworthy to me, and I treat it with the same respect and reverence she had for, well, nothing. A more disrespectful, trash-reading, talking and watching woman in NC, FL or TX was not to be found. Hers was an itinerant, much-lived life, a Yankee Florida liberal Jewish Tough Gal who bowled 'em in Japan, rolled 'em in North Carolina and was a singularly unique parent. Often frustrated by the stifling, conservative culture of the South, Renay turned her voracious mind to the home front, becoming a model stay at home parent, a supermom, really, just the perfect PTA lady, volunteer, amateur baker and-AHHAHAA HA! HA! HA! Just kidding, y'all! Renay - Rosie to her friends, and this was a broad who never met a stranger - worked double shifts with Doreen, ate a ton of carbs with Bernie, and could occasionally be stirred to stew some stuffed cabbage for the kids. She played cards like a shark, bowled and played cribbage like a pro, and laughed with the boys until the wee hours, long after the last pin dropped. At one point in the 1980's, Renay was the 11th or 12th-ranked woman in cribbage in America, and while that could be a lie, it sounds great in print. She also told us she came up with the name for Sunoco, and I choose to believe this, too. Yes, Renay lied a lot. But on the plus side, Renay didn't cook, she didn't clean, and she was lousy with money, too. Here's what Renay was great at: dyeing her red roots, weekly manicures, dirty jokes, pier fishing, rolling joints and buying dirty magazines. She said she read them for the articles, but filthy free speech was really Renay's thing. Hers was a bawdy, rowdy life lived large, broke and loud. We thought Renay could not be killed. God knows, people tried. A lot. Renay has been toying with death for a decades, but always beating it and running off in her silver Chevy Nova. Covid couldn't kill Renay. Neither could pneumonia twice, infections, blood clots, bad feet, breast cancer twice, two mastectomies, two recessions, multiple bankruptcies, marriage to a philandering Sergeant Major, divorce in the 70's, six kids, one cesarean, a few abortions from the Quietly Famous Abortionist of Spring Lake, NC or an affair with Larry King in the 60's. Renay was preceded in death by her ex-boyfriend, Larry King. Renay was also sadly preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Cathy Sue Corren Lester Trammel Webster, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, who herself was preceded in death by two marriages, a fudge shop and one eyeball lost in a near-fatal Pepsi bottle incident that will absolutely be explored in future obituaries. Losing her 1-eyed badass b**** of a daughter in 2007 devastated Renay, but it also made her quite homeless, since Cathy pretty much picked up the tab. A talented and gregarious grifter, Renay M. Corren eked out her final years of luxury (she literally retired at 62) under the care, compassion, checking accounts and, evidently, unlimited patience of her favorite son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lourdes Corren, of world-famous cow sanctuary El Paso, TX. Renay is also survived by her son Jeffrey Corren and his endlessly tolerant wife Shirley, of Powell's Point, NC; Scott Corren, and what's left of his colon, of Hampton, VA; Marc and Laura Corren, the loveliest dirt farmers of Vernon, TX (seriously, where is that); and her favorite son, the gay one who writes catty obituaries in his spare time, Andy Corren, of - obviously - New York City. Plus two beloved granddogs, Mia and Hudson. Renay was particularly close to and grateful for the lavish attentions of her grandaughter Perla and her great-grandchildren Elijah and Leroy, as well as her constant cruise companions Sam Trammell of Greenville, NC, and Adam Corren of El Paso, TX. Renay took tremendous pride in making 1 gay son and 2 gay grandchildren, Sam Trammell and Adam Corren. There will be a very disrespectful and totally non-denominational memorial on May 10, 2022, most likely at a bowling alley in Fayetteville, NC. The family requests absolutely zero privacy or propriety, none what so ever, and in fact encourages you to spend some government money today on a 1-armed bandit, at the blackjack table or on a cheap cruise to find our inheritance. She spent it all, folks. She left me nothing but these lousy memories. Which I, and my family of 5 brothers and my sister-in-laws, nephews, friends, nieces, neighbors, ex-boyfriends, Larry King's children, who I guess I might be one of, the total strangers who all, to a person, loved and will cherish her. Forever. Please think of the brightly-frocked, frivolous, funny and smart Jewish redhead who is about to grift you, tell you a filthy joke, and for Larry King's sake: LAUGH. Bye, Mommy. We loved you to bits. RIP RENAY MANDEL CORREN 10 MAY 1937 - 11 DEC 2021

  8. On the evening of Feb 4th (5-9PM) and all day Feb 5 (8:30AM-11PM) at THE RIDGE in Dayton TN Randy Harris and John Hearne will be offering Saving Your Life with a Pistol - What Matters , What Doesn't . https://www.eventbrite.com/e/harris-hearne-saving-your-life-with-a-pistol-what-matters-what-doesnt-tickets-227733044667 This is a class combining John Hearne’s epic research and lecture on "Who Wins, Who Loses, & Why: Understanding Human Performance When Death Is On The Line." with elements of Randy Harris’s “Primary Skills for the Armed Citizen” and “Defensive Concepts for Low Light Environments”. The class structure will be half of John’s lecture on Friday night from 5 - 9PM. Saturday will begin at 8:30AM with range work until we break for lunch and then we will continue with the rest of John’s lecture until the evening dinner break. After that we will return to the range for the low light portion of the class until 11PM. John's lecture is a broad survey of the most current research into human performance during interpersonal conflict. It is specifically tailored to the needs of those concerned with self-defense whether armed or unarmed. A strong emphasis is placed on understanding how the human mind works in order to optimize performance and increase one’s chance of dominating a violent encounter. Significant time is spent correcting previously offered, outdated information on human performance. Methods of optimizing training are addressed as well. (A binder with course relevant materials will be provided to students.) The shooting portions of the class will be focusing on the core skills of fighting with a handgun under realistic defensive shooting conditions and stress in both daylight and then in low light. These combat proven skills include solid robust manipulations that work under extreme pressure. This training will help with building realistic mental mapping and help you to learn to overcome the potential for panic and stay focused on the task at hand. Fights are won by applying high quality hits under pressure and that is the focus of this class. Location: THE RIDGE 11534 US-27, Dayton, TN 37321 CLASS TIMES : Friday FEB 4 (5PM-9PM ) Saturday FEB 5 (8:30 AM - 11PM) Equipment Needed : Note Taking materials , Reliable pistol with AT LEAST 3 magazines , 200 rounds of ammo, a handheld flashlight and spare batteries, a holster that fits on the belt, (no pocket, ankle or shoulder holsters) , eye and ear protection. 10. Since the weather has taken a downturn lately, I've gotten back into my reloading. Henry 45/70, Hornady 300 gr. JHP, IMR 4198 40.5 grs, CCI BR2 large rifle primers. This is a load i worked up back in the spring I think, works very well in this rifle. Since It's not fit to be outside or do anything else, decided to crank the old bench back up. Ain't much of a livin, but it passes off time, LOL., and keeps me off the streets.

  11. Gap 10 rifle, in 308. Low round count of 341. As configured with the Bartlein barrel the rifle was $4500. Scope and bipod not included. Rifle is flawless without a mark or scratch on it. This is one of the smoothest AR type actions I have ever cycled. Factory guaranteed to quarter-inch MOA. 43 grains of Varget behind 168 grain Sierra hollowpoint boat tails will accomplish that claim. 3500

  13. That is the thing. We are about 98% white if not more here. We all know other white people who say racist #### without dropping a beat. At best some of them might look left or right before they say it which means they at least know it's wrong or are worried who will hear them. This irritates me more because I dont want to get pulled into their racism.

  19. What I'm saying is that I am as accurate with a Glock 19 or M&P 2.0 9mm as I was with a VP9 and that my accuracy with any of them is more than adequate for a handgun. I am a pretty competent shooter, at speed. There are undoubtedly handguns that make it easier to shoot well. I suppose the VP9 might be that gun for you and it probably comes down to biomechanics and ergonomics. Those things are, to an appreciable degree, particular to the individual. The M&P gets a lot of shade thrown at it by gun snobs. I've never really understood that. Even the first-generation guns were considerably better than the Glocks of that era in terms of ergonomics and features, and the 2.0 continues to be so. That's just my opinion, but I stand by it on the merit of my experiences and catalog of guns that I've owned and run hard in classes. The accuracy potential of the M&P improved quite a bit with the 2.0 series.

  20. I have the ADM mount from Outdoor Legacy Gear. It places the scope in the same position on the rifle as the supplied factory mount. I have been told by ADM, (via email), that the mount listed below will also work for the Wraith. Said they were bringing in a Wraith yesterday for testing. This style would allow for a more rearward positioning of the scope. I haven't yet received an update from any tests on their behalf. https://www.admmfg.com/ad-b3-c-cantilever-acog-base For bolt guns .... https://sightmark.com/collections/mounts/products/wraith-long-mount-for-bolt-action-rifles

  22. A friend of mine told me about this site. I've been on TNDeer for a few years and never new Tennessee had a dedicated gun website. A little about me...prior LEO (Colorado), prior military, middle-aged, over weight, all carb diet, beer lover, bald guy (man, that looks bad when you type it ). Avid hunter, primarily bow hunting but have been known to pick up a rifle to get those deer that have been watching me practice with my bow. I'm an "America First" guy, very conservative in all aspects. I'm as pissed off at the Republicans as I am with the DemoRATS....I don't take myself too serious. I'm rambling now....I'll leave it there. Looking forward to getting to know the group. Heard a lot of positive things about the site. Glad to be here.

  23. Academy Sports has PMC Bronze for $17.49 and Remington Range for 17.99 per 50. I can’t believe I am thinking this is not a bad price per round ($0.36). Twice as much per round as it was in March 2020.

  25. For the OP, that's terrible advice. Any decent investigator would find this thread and be able to easily show the actual intent of a straw purchase. For anyone else reading this, the advice is still promoting an illegal act. It's only going to work if you and your parents are all going to hold up to police questioning and are all willing to lie under oath and commit perjury to protect you and themselves from a felony strawman gun charge, albeit in the very unlikely chance it would come to that. Or take the much BETTER advice above and be fully legal in one of 3 ways: Wait until you're 21 Buy a handgun from a private party Your parents buy it with THEIR money (not a dime comes from you) and they either gift it to you or allow you to borrow THEIR gun.

  26. Yep. To be fair to the VP9, that problem can be resolved by installing an aftermarket slide end-plate that does away with the striker indicator hole. Also to be fair to the VP9, the Glock striker can hydrolock too, but it takes a lot more to make it happen. Glock developed the Maritime Spring Cups to mitigate it. I always liked my VP9s but came to the conclusion that they did nothing my Glock 19 or M&P 9 couldn't do just as well for a lot less money. Owning it because you like Heckler & Koch is a fine reason, though. I own a lot of stupid crap that costs more money than capable counterparts, just because I like whatever the thing is.

  29. No you didn't. No one here was saying that. Exactly what I was trying to say. His fingerprints on the gun didn't matter because nothing leading up to that point was legal. It should have been obvious to the prosecutor that there was no valid self defense claim for the shooter.

  30. Did I miss the part where anyone called him a saint? As for the citizen's arrest thing, the problem with all of that is that they DID NOT have a right to affect a citizen's arrest at that point. The citizen's arrest required probable cause that he had committed a crime within a specific timeframe and that didn't exist (I think it is within the last 24 hours). They were breaking a law from the onset of their interaction with Arbery. His past does not matter at that point.

  34. Simply put, NO ! I owned a 24 and 624 S&W for a long time and have owned the model Taurus you own now. While I'm a huge S&W fan and believer in their quality I would NOT slide a 44mag round into a 44 spl and let it fly. You may get lucky once or even twice but as noted by grayfox there's a reason that gun is chambered like it is. Regardless of modern materials Taurus has tested that gun to withstand 44 spl. pressures which is a different animal than 44 mag. Id track down the Taurus to match my rifle and leave that 44 spl. as is.

Hey Ed, don't quit on us now, but sometimes you need to go fishing or a number of other hobbies. I won't quit shooting until I am deceased. I may not shoot 500 rounds a week like I used to, but I will shoot. I have a shooting outing planned for the 19th with a good friend. You need to smell burnt gunpowder every now and then, it's smell will bring back happy memories.
