Hey gang. Welcome back to TGO. There is a lot to cover in this post, so I am going to try to hit things in the order of most important or impacting, to least. Where is my TGO user account? If you created an account on TGO after August 17th you will most likely need to create your account again. We lost almost 30-days worth of data in this crash. What Happened To My Benefactor Account? A lot of my work today has been around connecting Benefactor memberships with those who purchased them. I was successful with most of them, but there are a few of you (less than 10) that I will be reaching out to in email so that we can work together to get you squared away. I am prioritizing this near the top of importance because you guys keep TGO afloat and I will take care of you. I posted something and now it's gone! Anything posted after August 17th is lost. I am very sorry. I suppose the good news is that if you posted something and regretted it, you now have a second chance. This part really sucks and I am absolutely not trying to down-play it. Trust me, however upset you are, I am infinitely more upset. I hope that you'll dive back in and recreate whatever we lost. What happened?!? This is the million dollar question. Our server suffered a catastrophic hardware failure that could not be recovered from. Thankfully we had backups, but I had to go back 30-days in time to find a backup that was viable. This problem had unfortunately been brewing for a while and I did not notice it in time. Prior to today (9/18/23) we were using a different web hosting company. We aren't using them now because I am greatly disappointed in their ability to assist and am livid over the outcome. The best and only way for me to respond was to move TGO to another hosting company who I believe will be much more responsive and responsible. That said, I cannot place full blame on them. Sadly, I missed some signs which were obvious in hindsight so some of this is absolutely my fault. Especially related to backups. I am now making backups of my backups and storing them in several places (online, offline, and in the cloud) so that we have more recovery options if something like this ever happens again. How can we help?? Post, post, post. Dive back in and start using TGO. This will be a scar for a while, but like all scars it will eventually fade. Other than that, there really isn't anything to do. I just noticed [insert problem here]. If you notice anything weird with your account, especially with payments for Benefactor memberships, let me know. I'll sort it out and get you taken care of. That's about it for now. Thanks for your patience while we were offline. I suppose if there is a silver lining to all of this, it has provided a chance to do some things different and better behind the scenes. Hopefully those differences and improvements will equate to odds heavily in our favor for the future. --David26 points

Over the last six months my wonderful wife has had a series of serious sinus infections. The myriad of drugs she has been on affected her as badly as the infections. Over time she also noticed that when the infection started her two back teeth on the top left also would ache. Our PCP sent her to Vanderbilt and an excellent ENT found in a CT scan that something was going on with the teeth. He referred her to an excellent oral surgeon who found there was a serious infection in the gum. The infection in the gums was being broadcast to the sinuses. A massive double infection; one affected the other. Surgery was called for. She had to go through two hours of surgery with the ENT to "clean out" the sinuses. When he finished the oral surgeon then went in for two hours to remove the teeth and repair the gums. Surgery was successful and both surgeons found massive pools of infection in the upper sinus and in the gums. If the infection made it to the brain I would have lost my wife. A week past surgery my wife is doing great and post surgical visits with both surgeons show the infection is gone and she is healing well. (Just getting used to chewing without two less teeth.) This has been a scary period for me and for her. I wanted to give thanks to God, extremely caring and COMPETENT doctors, and to my wife for fighting through a difficult time (except through suffering from my cooking!). Just felt the need to share what she has been through, the fear I felt after realizing how bad the infections were, and my gratefulness that she is sitting across from me reading a funny book and laughing because she is feeling better. I invite you to share my thankfulness and my joy. Thank you for reading.24 points

To be honest, I don’t give three f*cks about her gender or any of that. People I knew personally are dead today. Children my wife cared for are dead today. Please pray for the victims, their families and the other students, families and staff. That is all we can do at this point.20 points

I have no desire for TGO to become an echo chamber and I welcome diverse opinions so long as they constructively add to the overall dialogue, but we've reached the end of this road. Daniel, you've been a longtime member of TGO and years ago we all had quite a bit in common. Since then, something changed and I really don't have the mental bandwidth to try and figure out how or why. I forced myself to do a search on your recent posts and everything for at least the past two years, and probably longer than that, seems to consist of contrarian behavior meant to elicit a negative reaction from everyone else. I guess for your own amusement. I am going to trust that God has other people in your life who will continue to point you back toward him. But, sadly, TGO won't be that group now. It brings me no pleasure to say it, but your time here is done.19 points

I bought another deer rifle. I have been on a lever gun kick for awhile. One lever gun I did not have was a Winchester 94. I came across this Winchester 94ae and kinda fell in love with it. This was a banquet gun for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. It has gorgeous wood and really nice engravings. It also just happened to be in a caliber I did not have, .356 Winchester. I don't have a lot of lever guns but the one caliber I do not have is a .30-30. I have levers in .22, .357, .338 Win, .348 Win, .356 Win, .375 Win, .44 mag, .45 Colt, .45-70 and .500 S&W Mag(on order).19 points

Well, this one sucks. I've not had it long & wanted one for yeeeears, but I've got some major upcoming expenses that have to take priority. I can always buy another one later. It still sucks though. Pretty much mint condition, no marks anywhere I can find & a low round count. Not sure how many @AuEagle put through it, previous to my ownership, but I've put less than 100 shots down the pipe. It comes with 1, 10 round & 1, 20 round mag, plus the sling, Burris Scout 2-7x32 scope in Leupold rings. Also included is the USGI M14 manual of arms. It's a rock solid outfit & great fun to shoot! It has the least recoil of any rifle I've ever shot, bigger than .223! Never had a misfire or malfunction. $2000 all in or $1700 for the bare rifle, both mags & sling, no scope or rings (what I have in it)17 points

This, precisely. and our society also has a lot to do with our "erosion". I know each of these is a DENSE topic... so try not to read into this too deeply, but here's my shorthand take on what's happening: 1. We kicked out God - however you may feel about religion, it used to be at least some form of check/balance and a guardrail for how one should act or treat others. Not flawlessly mind you (because.... people) 2. We glorified violence - It's in every movie, every video game. No, I don't think that makes people killers (i'm a gamer), but it does lead to being desensitized and accept it 3. We accepted a Non-standard definition of family - I mean no offense to anyone by saying this, but a two parent household, who can cover both male and female viewpoints are crucial for society. 4. We wanted a free internet - This one is tough for me. I want free internet.... but we've now had a generation of kids who've grown up with access to EVERYTHING and most of the time that's without guidance. And they aren't looking up math problems 5. We drugged the population - I'm speaking Opioid, anti-depressant, etc. Big pharma and doctors started pushing pills on anyone. 100% there are people who need it, but not as many as they shelled out for a kick back 6. We took it easy on crime - We started looking at criminals as babies just down on their luck and not holding them accountable for their actions 7. We ignored those in need - Everyone (dem or rep) has ignored the margins when it comes to poverty, nobody actually goes into these impoverished communities and spends a penny to improve it. Needs lead to crime and eventually it's culture 8. We stopped seeing each other as people - Instead, we're enemies. If you don't believe what i believe, then we can't get along There's more, but i'm tired of typing17 points

Vet them through buyer/seller feedback here on TGO. Never meet after dark, if you can at all avoid it. Always meet at a well populated, well trafficked location. Most police stations and sheriff's departments are perfectly fine with you using their parking lot for this. Some even have designated parking spots FOR online sales handoffs. Discuss with the buyer/selller ahead of time if anyone else will be present so that there are no surprises. GO ARMED. Be ready to use it if you have to. Don't leave it in the car, in the glovebox. Keep it on you. LISTEN TO YOUR GUT INSTINCTS. Be willing to drive away if ANYTHING feels off about the setting or the situation at all. The possibility of resulting negative feedback or hurt feelings are completely inconsequential. Your instincts exist for a reason, so trust them. And one last tactic: I have, in the past, gone to a rendezvous and taken my own backup with me. Another person who I knew I could trust to handle the situation if it went sideways. They were armed and as skilled or more so than I am. I circled the lot and let them out nearby so that they could monitor and quickly respond if things got ugly, but far enough away from the rendezvous point that they weren't easily spotted. Basically, learn to think like a predator. Think like a bad guy. Think about what you would do if you were up to no good, and then think about how to circumvent that.17 points

Good day, my friends and brothers in arms. I took a hiatus from the forum for the better part of this year. Lots of reasons, none really worthy of detailing or complaining about here. A few know some things, but that's not relavent to this commentary. Just say I'm getting better and am attempting a "comeback" of sorts. So I'm sitting here today, just reading all the threads, past and present; when I stumble across the "Leaderboard" section. Of course I'm familiar with the daily and weekly scorekeeping. It's fun to watch, and lets us know the true diehard members here. But as I went deeper into it, I ran across thos older threads that I hadn't seen for a long while. It was illumuninating, to say the least. Those that made me remember just what a tremendous place and experience TGO really is. I read of new additions to family, and loss as well. Loss of wonderful people. Steelharp always come to mind for me, but too many others as well. Praise for good deeds that went unnoticed by some, and raved about by others. I saw the pride in childrens' accomplishents; like Links posting of his son's graduation, of Tercel89 telling of the pride in his son saving a life with CPR, the times we have all thanked veterans, bought meals and taken checks at dining places. The times that help was volunteered without being asked. Several in particular had me in tears re-living the events. I won't mention names. It's not necessary. When a brother was in need and selling his weapons...help was immediate and plentiful. When some medical bills for some, and vet bills for others were piling up...help came again. If you know...you know. People here step up! That is a constant. It's what makes this a great community. One that I missed and am proud to be a small part of. So as I make my way back, in many things; I just want to remind us all what a wonderous thing we have here. Something built by David, the Admin Staff, and each and every individual that comes in. A place for comfort and comaraderie, a place of knowledge sharing and humor. A place to be valued and prized.17 points

I think I've shared it before, but this was my grandfather's duty gun when he was a police officer back in the 60's. Smith & Wesson Model 19. He left it to my dad and I inherited it when my dad passed away. This is one of those guns that my kids will inherit one day, and hopefully their kids as well.17 points

My daughter age 39 and a mother of four has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. She's seen the docs (got a second opinion) and the oncologist and is being set up for treatment of her particular type of cancer. Without going into to much detail I am asking that for those of you that pray may include Sarah in your prayers. She' a good daughter, wife and mother and she can use all the help she can get. Thanks in advance to all of you that may take the time.16 points

Folks... There has been lotsa opining on this tragedy. An undeniable tragedy on lotsa levels. The sadness of children murdered. The sadness of folks of good will being murdered because they simply worked at this school. The tragedy of someone so young and so full of rage and hate that they thought shooting innocents and folks who were doing good was a laudable idea. There is simply no end to this tragedy. Folks are horrified, deeply saddened, scared and repulsed by this atrocious and senseless act. That said, there have been lotsa partial solutions advanced... School hardening, armed and trained resource officers, improved mental health screening, etc. The list goes on. All these solutions have their place, but I think all of these " governmental " and " societal " solutions overlook the root problem. That is the problem of " evil ". You cannot attend to this problem of senseless murder of others by not confronting the issue of evil people doing evil things. The fact of the matter is that there is no gubt solution to evil other than eradicating the perpetrators. We want to believe that if we somehow get the right mix of protections, that this problem will go away somehow. It will not go away because of the problem of " evil ". Murder, mayhem, and killing has always been around. It's present in every society. Our society has magnified this problem because we are so balkanized, hedonistic, and devoid of the ethics of how we should treat our brothers and sisters, that many are all about themselves and have no inclination to be accommodating or kind to others with which theys disagree. Put another way; only those who are in lock step agreement are brothers, and those who disagree with us are not worthy even of life. It is my fervent belief that this is the root of the problem; and as long as there are enablers, apostles, and cheerleaders for this madness; these senseless, evil calamities will not go away. That said, in our society " freedom of speech " enables them to continue. I do, however, believe they can be minimized to a great extent if we take the steps to physically protect children in the classroom using dedicated, trained, and able personnel who will not hesitate to use deadly force to defend these innocents. The solution is not more laws or gubt regulations. The solution is to make potential malefactors count the cost of doing these things as a deterrent; and to eliminate the perpetrators when the need arises. In closing, I've tried to keep this little epistle on the secular plane, but it is undeniable that this issue touches the spiritual plane. The " God-Man " said that " you should love your brother as yourself "... This is the ultimate solution, but we live in a fallen world. Since we live in this " fallen world ", we need to clearly see that there are evil beings bent on doing evil things, and we need to be ready as both Believers and Non Believers to take decisive action to protect these most precious in our society. May this sort of tragedy never happen again. leroy...16 points

Went to the Gun show here in Dickson today. My expectations were pretty low as the shows have been showing more non-gun stuff and less guns for a few years now. It blew my mind when I came upon the "Holy Grail" of target .22 rifles. That being a Winchester Model 52 with a bull barrel and a Marble - Goss peep sight. According to the serial number, the rifle was made in 1931 which was the classic era and timeframe for their production. Got it for an excellent price, too as the gentleman was selling it for his father-in-law and the owner told him what to price it at and that's where it stayed. What makes this sweeter for me is that about 4 years ago, at the show in Murfreesboro, I found one of these "tack-drivers" for a much higher price and I tried to be "cute" and played a game of walking away to appear uninterested. During my little game, another buyer swooped in and bought it. I did find a good deal that same day on a Winchester 75, which is the little brother of the 52 but have kicked myself ever since. So, this is scratching an itch I have had for a while. Anyway, thanks for listening to my little rah-rah story.16 points

The answer to that is he’s a felon who can’t own guns. I’m not terribly interested in his ideas on regulating them out of the hands than can.16 points

I thought I'd show off some work that I had done to a spare grip module for my Staccato C2. A gentleman named Zach, who posts as "Grip-It-Customs_" on Instagram (do note the trailing underscore in his name) did this for me last week and I couldn't be happier. Not only is the texture that he laid down perfect for EDC use, but a byproduct of removing the factory grip texture is that the overall circumference of the grip is slightly reduced. Since I'm a size-medium glove wearer, this translates into making the gun really fit my hand better than it already did. And for comparison, this is an old photo of what the gun comes with from the factory... I really couldn't be happier. And since the grip modules on these, while not exactly inexpensive, are replaceable it's not like I have permanently altered the gun in any way. Anyway, I feel like this is an example of plastic surgery gone RIGHT. Lord knows we've seen some stipple jobs on TGO that, no offense meant to the owners of those guns, looked like someone's dog had chewed on them for a few hours.15 points

As I said in a previous post, I thank the members of this forum for the ability to have decent discussion about this. Maybe it is because we are all Tennesseans, and this event hits home, maybe it is because we know TGO David will swing the “Ban Hammer” if needed, or maybe it is because we care about each other, but this is healthy discussion, not a bunch of folks railing on one political side or the other as o the MO forum (mostly railing against one side). It has been a very hard week here in my world, and I give thanks that I feel comfortable expressing what is going on in this forum.15 points

I'm literally open to any suggestions. I've had a bunch of fun, the last few months, bringing a few old rifles back to life. A couple of old 1930s Husqvarnas, a knackered old Remington a cut-down K98 & I'm presently working on the world's (previously) UGLIEST Carcano bubba-job. Turns out, that working on projects like this, along with working on getting my bike how I want it, are really helping my depression. I went from a lifetime of building things, to working a job for the last 14 years that whilst enjoyable, doesn't have the same sense of satisfaction as starting with nothing & finishing with a useful product. So I'm looking for old, disused, manky, rusty old rifles i can, if not restore, then at least refinish & remodel into working, things. Previously "sporterized" are preferable, that way I won't be accidentally devaluing a collectible piece. When I'm done with them, I'll offer them back to the original seller for whatever i pay, plus whatever actual parts I need to source (with receipts). My time will be free. If the original seller doesn't want it back, I'll either keep it or offer it up on the open market for an extra, say, $50? I'm 100% NOT trying to make any money, not trying to be or learn to be a gunsmith, I'm just looking for the sense of satisfacion of making at least a polycotton blend purse from a sow's ear I really don't want to spend tons, probably $300 max & old & rusty would be preferred over modern & just broken.15 points

Woke up with some discomfort and tightness in my chest Sunday morning. Went to E R at St Thomas West, in Nashville, Sunday afternoon. Monday afternoon I had to have 4 additional stents put in my veins around my heart. Now have had double bypass, with 9 stents. Feel lucky to be her on this Thanksgiving Day. Am having a great day although kinda sore. I am now 74, and want to tell you that one better have made spiritual provisions for your death, and most of all where your soul will spend eternity. My soul will be with my savior Christ Jesus in the next realm(realm of departed spirits(Paradise) if Christ don't come first. Search and find out where your souls will go before it is too late. When you get to the next realm it will be too late to change your fate. I have done the things necessary for me to be able to take advantage of God's saving Grace which He freely will give to all who follow His Son Jesus. This is serious guys. I would be glad to help you if you can get in touch with me in Lascassas TN.15 points

This Outdoorsman is a S&W 5-screw, "pre-Model 23" made in 1955 with matching serial numbers. It has an exceptional finish with slight wear. The only rust I found is a small spot on the butt near the serial number. The N-frame is, of course, capable of handling higher than standard pressure .38 Special rounds. Sorry, the original box is long gone. I'm offering it at $1200 firm to members with a valid TDL or EHCP. Knoxville area, no trades.15 points

It’s correct Hale chose the school due to a perceived lack of security and the isolated nature of being on the hill. She had considered two other schools as well as a public location but determined she would have more success at TCS. This is written in her notes which I will address in a sec. While there was not an SRO at the school, measures were already being put in place to have trained and armed staff on site along with the active shooter training they had recently completed. There was not a “Manifesto” as one might think. That was a poor choice of words for the police chief to use. There were 17 notebooks filled with research of every school shooting, logistics of the TCS building, camera locations, employee info, etc. Hale had been monitoring the building for two yrs and compiling info. She was hyper focused on this aspect thus the large amount of data on covenant and on how to successfully conduct a school shooting with maximum deaths. According to police, this was the most planned school attack in US history and they're still processing info. It’s an active investigation that they expect will take another year to complete. It’s true the police don’t want this research and info out there since it will most definitely aid future shootings. As far as the school, church & parents not wanting the “manifesto” released, there are unwell people out there wishing harm towards the school as evidenced by continued letters and calls to the school. It’s unfathomable but the rumors people have created, pushed, and subsequent anger has made an unsafe environment for everyone there. My wife has fielded calls and received letters several times. People have traveled to Nashville to stalk the school. Releasing the notebooks would be equivalent to police releasing schematics and security details of your personal home knowing someone activity wants to hurt your family. Protection of staff and children who are still experiencing trauma from seeing their classmates killed is paramount.14 points

I’ll say this. The school deserves a lot of credit and recognition. One thing you don’t see in the MNPD video is panic teachers and children. They heard the alarm and acted according to a plan that had obviously been practiced. They protected those children as best they can. Unfortunately no plan is perfect or can work flawlessly and the evil got through to a few, but lives were saved by the forethought and planning of the administration and staff. I believe in learning everything we can from these events. 1) I hope more private schools will find ways to employee on-site security or SRO. 2)Any door that is locked for protection should also have some level of glass break prevention. It can’t be bullet proof but internal wire mesh would have prevented or significantly slowed the entry of the assailant. These are not criticisms of Covenant but they will be times brought up at my kids schools as items that need addressing13 points
