  4. Good day, my friends and brothers in arms. I took a hiatus from the forum for the better part of this year. Lots of reasons, none really worthy of detailing or complaining about here. A few know some things, but that's not relavent to this commentary. Just say I'm getting better and am attempting a "comeback" of sorts. So I'm sitting here today, just reading all the threads, past and present; when I stumble across the "Leaderboard" section. Of course I'm familiar with the daily and weekly scorekeeping. It's fun to watch, and lets us know the true diehard members here. But as I went deeper into it, I ran across thos older threads that I hadn't seen for a long while. It was illumuninating, to say the least. Those that made me remember just what a tremendous place and experience TGO really is. I read of new additions to family, and loss as well. Loss of wonderful people. Steelharp always come to mind for me, but too many others as well. Praise for good deeds that went unnoticed by some, and raved about by others. I saw the pride in childrens' accomplishents; like Links posting of his son's graduation, of Tercel89 telling of the pride in his son saving a life with CPR, the times we have all thanked veterans, bought meals and taken checks at dining places. The times that help was volunteered without being asked. Several in particular had me in tears re-living the events. I won't mention names. It's not necessary. When a brother was in need and selling his weapons...help was immediate and plentiful. When some medical bills for some, and vet bills for others were piling up...help came again. If you know...you know. People here step up! That is a constant. It's what makes this a great community. One that I missed and am proud to be a small part of. So as I make my way back, in many things; I just want to remind us all what a wonderous thing we have here. Something built by David, the Admin Staff, and each and every individual that comes in. A place for comfort and comaraderie, a place of knowledge sharing and humor. A place to be valued and prized.

  5. Permanent residents with a green card (which I understand she has since in the process of becoming a citizen....Congratulations) are allowed to get a Tennessee Carry permit. I would suggest the Tennessee Enhance Carry especially if you travel to other states. https://www.tn.gov/safety/tnhp/handgun/eligibilityrequirements.html

  7. I have been enjoying growing into a new platform. My trusty AR's have gone through many evolutions as I've grown as a shooter, and my handguards have reflected this evolution from Milspec to Magpul, then free floated keymod, and on to Mlok. My receivers have made similar changes, having experimented with all manner of ambi controls and lighter weight. I've tried gas piston over direct impingement, side charging over rear charging, folding stocks, and more. My optics have gone from irons to red dots to scopes with mall ninja side dots to LPVOs. Everything has been a delightful (expensive?) journey. Recently, I started playing with a new platform, the CZ Bren 2 MS. This piston driven, lightweight carbine is the standard issue police and military carbine for the Czech Republic, and it is best described as a modern (and improved) version of a SCAR. Non-reciprocating side charging handle, ambi controls, lightweight, fantastic center of gravity with more weight behind the pistol grip, folding stock that doesn't need to be extended to fire, and an adjustable gas block in case you need extra gas for adverse conditions, questionable ammo, or like slinging your empties across the range. The Bren 2 platform is practically everything I've been spending money to make my AR15's into. Lightweight and balanced. Compact, with a functional folding stock. Better controls and more combat-effective manual of arms (the side charging handle doesn't make you lower the rifle and lose your sight picture/target awareness to run it). An inexpensive gas selector swap gives you a new "suppressed" setting, to avoid overgassing. So far, so good. I'm getting about 1.5MOA accuracy with 55gr FMJ, which makes it only half as accurate as my quality ARs, but it's certainly nothing I notice in drills out to 100yds. It would not be my DMR of choice for working out at 500 yards, but it sure does the job inside 50. I bought the 8" and 11" pistols, and converted the 14" pistol into a rifle with folding stock. I'll let you all know how my additional testing goes. Doc

  11. I am an old school guy beginning with my first handgun purchase in 1969 with a Ruger Super Single-Six which I still use regularly and still have the box and papers (the original grips are in the safe). As I said, I'm old. Being old, I grew up with revolvers, particularly S&Ws and old model Rugers (pre-transfer bars), and the CZs were the first automatics that I owned that gave me satisfaction in shooting (along with Makarovs). I still carry CZs with the occasional backup S&W Bodyguard from 1966 in my outer coat pocket and for yard work an old Mak of some flavor. Old habits die hard.

  12. I wear Yaqui or JIT holsters 90% of the time if I'm wearing a belt gun. With simple construction, a Yaqui or JIT holds the gun firm enough and is easy to conceal and the most comfortable belt holsters I've ever worn. Fits my lifestyle. I have them for all my pistols, though I never use them on revolvers. My CZ97b has currently (17 years) been riding in a FIST holster. It's well made but is uncomfortable after several hours in a vehicle or at a desk. None of the big boys (Don Hume, Galco, my usual brands) makes a JIT/Yaqui style for the 97b anymore. I did a search and found this. A Barsony Yaqui style made for the 97b on Amazon. At the price of about $28.00 including tax, I ordered it. Got it two days later and am very pleased. Nicely made, fits great, firm retention, covers the trigger, and the gun comes out without a leather death grip. I found it everything I wanted without a upper-level price. Now I'm looking at other pistols that may need a new leather home.

  14. For me the original LCP is close to perfect as a pocket pistol....with the Nemesis holster. At times I will use a Versa Carry device for waistband carry....no pockets, or pocket too small. Can't speak to the other models.

  17. After reading your comment above, I just had to go see for myself if that was the case, with my LCP Max and my Taurus Tracker. I can assure you that the Taurus Tracker single action trigger pull is MUCH, MUCH lighter than the LCP Max Trigger. The trigger pull on for the LCP Max is advertised to be about 6 lbs 7 ounces. As long as you carry one in a holster that covers the trigger, which I do for every pistol I own, I see no issue with carrying the LCP Max or the LCP II. Now if one has a problem carrying a pistol without a safety, like the LCP Max, then I would espouse that one should not carry that pistol. As for me, I will continue to carry my Max in a DeSantis Nemesis Pocket holster or on my hip, when I determine that is the best pistol to carry for the circumstances.

  18. The LCP II is more akin to a revolver that IS cocked. It’s a hammer fired gun with a precocked hammer.

  19. OK I always thought I was crazy for saying the same thing but it seems very dangerous to me. Honestly if I got an LCP it would be the first gen with the long pull. Or a Kahr cw380. I wish they would put a safety on the LCP II and max.

  21. We will never again see 2017 ammo prices -- I was paying as low as $169 a case for Blazer Brass 9mm from Target Sports USA -- but prices do seem to have declined a bit. Probably a good idea to buy at much as possible during the next two years. Prices will rise again in anticipation of the '24 election. Stack it deep, Whisper

  23. The process for a green card holder is the same as a citizen. All the they care about is that you meet the eligibility requirements. And yes I am talking from experience of a family member and some friends.

  24. Agree with this. Just train how you want to carry. Should be coming with you every single range trip. I find it helps to not mix them if you have multiple carry pistols too.

  25. Right there with you on the gun buster sign law. I'm fine with being asked to leave if I display a weapon. It's another thing entirely to prevent someone from carrying under the threat of penalty (regardless of how small).

  27. That's true, but I've had little negative response outside of the threads that sometimes get a little wonky. You've been here for a while and seen some of those. However, there have been some really wild ones in the past. Politics, mall ninjas, FPS Russia, and a host of others have near incited riots at times. OK that's an exaggeration, but I do understand what you say. Still, I give TGO high marks. It was a needed refuge for me at one time. Personal background...found TGO, TGO David, and The one Who Shall Not Be Named... just as I started my Cancer/Chemo journey. Gave me a lift with its people and sometimes humor. Helped me a lot, so I have some strong feelings for TGO. Yes, we do seem to have a healthy cross-section of people and attitudes here, though I think pretty strongly weighted to "our" side. And we do see some strong opinions, frequently, on issues. Anyway, thanks for your comments.

  28. Very well said. In many respects TGO is a great space. I have had lots of great interactions here. On the other hand, we are a reflection of American life. If you are not a part of the predominant political culture, TGO can be a belittling place.

  29. For my defensive shotgun being familiar with and enjoying AK47s, I went with the Saiga-12 about 17 years ago. Simple, easy to maintain, shoots any 12 ga. ammo and works like an AK. At fifty yards, slugs hit COM reliably with the iron sights. It could be tricked out I suppose, but I see no need to do so. I'm not a camo tactical guy, just someone who's seen what a 12 gauge can do in the right hands. I don't think the Saiga -12 is available anymore. I see there are some other AK types, but I have no experience with them. Since no one is getting into my home without my knowledge, I keep the 5-shot mag in, empty chamber. Easy to rack in the dark. Extra mags at hand.

  32. Where are all these signs everyone is talking about? I've yet to see one. FWIW, I would not support a business that would ban firearms on the premises. Just as we cut the Cable more than 12 years ago, MSM and the other liars are not allowed in our home.

  33. I’ve got my lifetime EHCP, but I do want the gun buster sign law changed. That’s more important to me than true constitutional carry, though I’d like that too.

  34. I used to carry IWB in various positions, but I have found that I can usually find a compact, tight to the body OWB holster that will work for most weapons with an an untucked shirt. The larger the gun, the more I shift the holster back on my hip to 4 or 5 o'clock. If it is something like a micro 9mm then I stay pretty close to 3 or 3:30.

  35. I love 1911s, but for everyday carry I much prefer a striker fired with no external safety. There is just less to go wrong when milliseconds matter. Consistent trigger pull and no external safety to deal with.

  36. Right, point is when carried un-holstered in a pocket it is free to slosh around with the trigger unprotected from being accidentally pulled by the user or some other object. Ruger provides a basic soft sleeve which they recommend using. I recommend something sturdier. Edit: The op mentioned the LCP ii. That is not a DAO pistol. It has a trigger similar to a Glock. The original LCP had a heavy DAO trigger. If you feel safe with a Glock you should feel safe with the LCP ii trigger.

  37. If you have a decent holster, leather or kydex, which covers the trigger it is safe, imo. But note the "decent holster" bit. Throw it your pocket without a holster and all bets are off. But that would be true for pretty much any semi-auto I can think of. I have my LCP ii in a iwb kydex holster and years later am still free of errant holes in my legs or crotch area. It is my second choice carry next to a S&W snubbie 38 (custom leather owb holster or iwb kydex). Third is a Hellcat (DeSantis owb leather). These are all high quality holsters While I have used the soft sided "sticky" type holsters they are only passable but not as good as a kydex or stiff leather holster, imo. Again, if it is in a good holster, you should be gtg. For those who may be hearing impaired, "IF IT IS IN A GOOD HOLSTER..."

  39. 1. Must run 2. Big enough for serious shooting, small enough to comfortably carry 3. Decent trigger 4. Decent capacity A Glock 48 with Shield magazines is about the best carry gun I have found.

  40. It’s that time of year again, going to visit the family at the Nakatomi Plaza in L.A. for a Christmas Party. You’ll just need your trusty Beretta 92f to get you through the night. This package comes with 5 mags and two holsters. Does have some honest wear. Looking for $650 obo. Would also be interested in trades, especially a Rossi lever gun in .357 or a psa gf3 AK-47 or a usp compact in .40 or 9mm. May also be interested in partial trades.
