I never go anywhere unarmed and I'm sure most folks here are the same way. If I am in a store and someone begins shooting people I would move towards the shooter and if at all possible I would try my best to shoot the shooter before he could get to me. If I was not going to use my weapon to stop a bad guy why would I bother to carry it? How many folks here feel the same way?8 points

And the more media attention each incident receives only adds fuel to the fire. In most cases the shooter wants their 15 min even if its their last .6 points

I worry it’s not gonna stop. The only thing between peace and anarchy is the moral compass of the citizens. Anyone at any time can perpetrate a massacre like this. Be it with a gun, a knife, a car, a bomb or a plane, it is just “will I or won’t I” decide to kill a bunch of people before I die. We are a nation living in a fear of our own making.5 points

I cannot remember when; maybe 5 - 6 years ago some conversation was around creating a law that if someone was thought to be mentally ill in any fashion, that they would have to be seen by a mental health professional before being allowed to buy a firearm. All of us in the mental health profession made it clear we had no desire to work under such a law. First, a person, even the most mentally ill may have clarity for a short time during an interview. Second, a true mental evaluation would be expensive and time consuming. Third, my liability insurance is high enough; if we had agreed to provide such services I'm certain companies would have stopped providing coverage. As for me, I would never agree to serve a client; liability is way too high.4 points

This all goes back to the mental illness problem in this country. These people think they are worthless, useless and completely un-noticed. They want to die, but they also want it to be memorable so that everybody knows their name. They want to be noticed so badly that they're willing to die for it.3 points

There is absolutely no way it's going to stop. None. It will continue to get worse. I can't think of any practical solution to this.3 points

He also might have shot the guy in the torso and saw it had no effect. It the perp was wearing level III plates, he might not even notice a 9mm hit.3 points

Normalcy bias always amazes me. The person in that car, not the one filming but the only one near the shooter, barely reacted. They could have plowed over the shooter or simply sped off like that truck but instead they just slowly drove forward. I'm really sick of this. Our country is broken.3 points

So while I’m waiting on my new FN stainless hi power to finally arrive from the land of “back-order”, I picked up a cheap toy to amuse myself and study. I am reminded of someone I once knew whose entire gun collection was based solely on initial price point but in this case the gamble really paid off! I stood amazed as I examined and shot this for the first time in between sighting in my “higher dollar acquisitions” of the last few weeks. The all stainless steel SAR 2000 is a Turkish clone of the CZ 75 with a few influences from Tanfoglio. In addition, (and I’m watching for the lightning strikes here) I feel it really channels JMB’s hi power. There I said it. Beyond this, I can’t ****ing believe how well it fits the hand. It’s a thick grip with tactile soft rubber panels and an unbelievable backbone that arches into the palm of my medium sized hands like the perfect spoon. Being all stainless the 9mm recoil is laughable and I was expecting to fell more of the weight but with that incredible hand fitment, it just feels more like a natural hand extension. I also was expecting to see some signs of a break-in period but even with varying steel cased and very questionable loose rounds from my non-insulated storage areas- it just won’t FTF or demonstrate less than perfect operation. Did I mention that I bought this NIB from locked&loaded for $379 tax free? Sometimes—just sometimes backorders aren’t so bad. Sights are fantastic btw & CZ75B mags fit which boost you from 17 round to 19 round if you get the competition editions. It runs like a race gun so why not?2 points

Maybe this is my age showing, but what's up with people typing "100$" with the dollar sign at the end? This has gotten pretty rampant over the last year or so. Maybe it's when they're being conversational and trying to say it like "100 dollars" (which should still be $100. I can't be the only person that finds this annoying, right?2 points

In addition to the 2 Valkyries, I have a Yamaha Zuma 125. It's a lot of fun to ride. I can jump on it and go to the corner store and back before one of the Valkyries even gets fully warmed up. Saves a lot of wear on the big bikes. BTW, my hunt for an 80's UJM is over, as I sealed the deal today on this 1983 Suzuki GS 850L. It has about 16k miles on it and meets 3 of my 4 preferred criteria. (disk brakes, yes, shaft drive, yes, cast wheels, yes and water cooled, no) Water cooled would be less negotiable if this was a daily commuter or if I was still in Texas. Once I go through it, I can unload one of the Valkyries. Until then my garage space is NIL. #firstworldproblems Jay2 points

That’s what I’m saying. They have their sale about the middle of April. I have a hard time keeping the stuff alive long enough to plant.2 points

Unfortunately for whatever reason it pays to shop around for anything garden related this year. Neighbor and I were discussing varying "good deals" promoted by the local plant shops vs your big box stores. Turns out you have to be willing to drive around a 30 mile loop to get the best deals. I guess it could be some people are trying their hand at gardening in order to offset rising food cost. Which is ironic considering what I see in the buggies at the checkout.2 points

There is the first issue. He was removed from the Army for being nuts and it was not recorded anyplace on public records that would have prevented him from buying the guns. Anyone that is removed from Military Service for mental issues should be put on public records so a background check would show if he lied on his application......JMHO2 points

I'm a believer that the solutions exist. Unfortunately those in charge of getting us back on track are also the ones that got us here. And while there's money to be made on our "symptoms" there will be no cures pursued.2 points
-
I can agree with that for sure. There is no practical solution to stop it. The Feds think taking the guns from the good guys will end it. Problem is it's not the good guys doing the bad things and the bad guys will never give up their guns.2 points

I'm guessing the shooter is probably Latino. In which case MSM will let this quietly go away as he doesn't fit their agenda. I've noticed that there has been no rush to identify him and delve into his personal life. Usually by now, there would be full stories covering his full name and all sorts of sordid details about his life. Anybody remember the guy who shot up the Kroger store in Collierville a year or so back? Probably not. He was a Pacific Islander and didn't fit the agenda. MSM dropped that story real quick.2 points

I was in grad school in Seattle and lived in Ballard as Mars Hill was getting started. It broke my heart when it imploded in on itself. Some of the bonus episodes give testament to how much God is still at work picking up the pieces. It’s a cautionary tale for sure - and one we can all learn from. But man. God remains. I was impressed that the host and others were honest about their own influences as well.1 point

I binged the first 5 episodes today on the drive up to Chicago today. Man this is an extremely well done and engaging listen. Having been in a plant (not Acts 29 affiliated) at the peak of the Mark Driscoll/Mars Hill phenomenon in the mid-00s/early 10s I remember it being a very big thing. My pastor at the time was fairly critical of Driscoll’s personal style but was friendly with the pastors of the Acts 29 plants in the area. I myself admired what it appeared was going on with Mars Hill from the outside. The rock star vibe was very real and very attractive to a newer Christian like myself at the time. All that to say, I’ve got a measure of personal attachment to the subject matter and have gotten sucked in immediately.1 point

As I’ve never ridden an electric bike, I’d like to ask why? That sure looks like a barrel of fun. I can confidently tell you this. I’ve never once regretted owning anything with a Honda nameplate on it.1 point

We usually try to buy what we can at the high school agriculture class greenhouse. It helps support the program, but I sure wish they’d have the sale about 3 weeks later than what they do.1 point

Your point is well taken. It begs the question of the creation of a registry that would have prevented the purchase of firearms. It would need to be able to link to a Form 4473. The question on the 4473 regarding mental health issues is nebulous: "Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?" There is a wide, wide latitude between being found mentally incompetent on one end of the spectrum or having been committed to a mental institution. In the middle of that continuum is severe depression, personality disorders, paranoia, and schizophrenia. The difficulty with each is that a person may present normal in one moment, and a half-hour later reveal troubling symptoms.1 point

I have a good friend that I rarely talk to any more because he is “ate plum up” with the Q stuff. Can’t have a normal conversation about anything without him suddenly steering it to that stuff. It’s some outlandish crap he’s gotten into. “Trump is still in command and after they let the people learn their lesson he’ll come galloping back in on a white wildebeest” or whatever. What I do know is that there are plenty of people on both (or all?) sides who will greedily lick up whatever information or theories they are spoon fed. They say the truth is somewhere in the middle. At this point I’m starting to think it’s buried under a giant tadpole in a crater lake somewhere. Lord have mercy!1 point

It would be situation dependent. I can’t imagine standing by and watching a pre school or nursing home get shot up.1 point

I can respect that also as an option but it would be hard to think about a shooter killing children at random and maybe the mother because the husband is not there to defend them. Most of the time the mother is killed while trying to shield the child but it is also killed. I would have the advantage because I would know where the shooter is and he would not be expecting an armed good guy coming for him.....JMHO1 point

Safety Reminder for Buyers and Sellers This is an automatic reply meant to protect you as a buyer and a seller on TGO. Use the Buyer/Seller Feedback feature to research who you are dealing with. Please come back and leave feedback for each other after the transaction is complete. Your experience will help others. Never agree to use an electronic form of payment to buy or sell a gun! None of the electronic payment services will protect you against fraud in a firearms transaction. They all have terms of service FORBIDDING the use of their services to buy/sell guns. DON'T DO IT. Be very wary of anyone who insists on brokering a deal in private or outside of TGO. Scammers almost always prefer to operate out of the public eye. Back years ago when I fished a lot, in the Spring I would run up river to the Bluffs above the river and watch to Eagles that nested in them. I would pull the boat under the trees on the bank and watch the Eagles fish for the food for their young that were in the nests. I would spend about 1/2 an hour watching them. It was so cool to watch them.1 point

Could be and that makes sense. But I would think that the FBI would have at least one agent that could speak Spanish in Dallas. That's what led to my jump to a case of possible terrorism, with the family speaking Arabic, Persian or perhaps Russo ethnic or African language.1 point

We maintain a low sodium approach to everything we cook so when I smoke anything its just the meat and the smoke to provide the flavor. I know there's a strong debate over fruit wood for fish but I stick with a hickory mesquite blend with a hot and fast smoke. It leaves the salmon very juicy with a mild smoke flavor compared to some of those store bought smoked salmons that reek of smoke from the moment you open it. What salmon does Costco offer up that you smoke ? Atlantic , Scottish, Chilean ?1 point
-
Half and half salt and brown sugar - maybe with a touch of teriyaki sauce is my go to . Brining overnight at least will really take it to another level. Also, if you’re going to put it on the smoker, after you rinse it - it’s really worth it to let it sit on the counter for an hour or so to form a pellicle - sort of a tacky layer the smoke adheres to and seals the moisture inside the fish. And of course - watch your temperature. You’re going a lot lower with salmon.1 point

On the contrary, it would be true even if @RED333 didn't repeat it. Sexually mutilating children and flaunting sexual deviance in front of small children should be so obviously wrong that it doesn't require a law, but some people are so sick that laws have to exist to stop them.1 point

My prayers are and have been with these victims and their families, however local news mentions this event, as sad as it was, every night since it has happened. They will not let it die because they want to influence the public, and TN Government to ban guns, IMO. Sad use of a public trust. (the air waves). Media is a small part of the problem by publicizing these events. Mental illness is a major problem in these events. Edited to add; Dare I mention "Gun Free Zones."1 point

I also recommend a single shot rifle or a bolt action which requires manipulation between shots. That teaches them to make their shots count. Semi-autos tend to lead to mag dumps because its fun. Bad habit for a beginner. My sons learned on marlin bolt actions. The Model 25Y is youth sized just for kids.1 point
