What kind of holster for working outside?
chances R replied to Darrell's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I understand the shortcomings of the serpa, But I think the situation of the OP is an exception to its use. If doing tractor work etc, that’s what I use. It is not a training holster nor for SD routine. OK , blast/ roast away. -
Totin' Teachers Bill Heads for a Vote
chances R replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
TN is not inventing anything new here. Private schools have had the option to permit carry for several years. State universities have allowed it as well for all employees. 33 states allow teachers to carry. I understand all the concern, and teacher carry is not the only answer. Hardened facilities will help. But I would rather have a teacher that is willing to carry and of course that participates in routine training in place than not. It is well documented that response time is proportional to body count. We are our own 1st responder, not surprisingly, no blood in the hallways in the above examples. Just like the concern over the guns in trunk bill, or guns in bar bills. -

Gov doesn’t have to sign it. Unless he vetos, it becomes law in 10 days without signature. -
I keep a small ammo can of loaded AR mags loaded for emergencies. Nothing is slower and bad practice as trying to load mags when you need to be shooting. Also I keep them downloaded in case of a needed speed or tac reload. Fully loaded mags can be difficult if not impossible to insert with a closed bolt.

I have always been in favor of arming teachers that volunteer to do so. Vetted by the principal, vetted and trained by county sherriff. Would have rotating mandatory schedule for carry. Must always be on person. Private schools have had this perogative for years. -
I had a similar problem with a Canik. Problem was with aggressive draw stroke the edge of my Kydex would bump the mag release. Hair dryer on that portion of the holster and rolled a sharpie over the edge flared it out enough to solve the problem. Don't know if this fits your situation. My 1.0 compact is one of my favorite M&Ps.

Partial knee replacement is not for everyone. The knee is comprised of 3 compartments. If the medial or lateral compartment is the only one involved, then yes a partial may be helpful. But if more than one involved, then not the solution.

Very few of us started shooting large caliber handguns initially. Most started with .410s or .22 rifles. We became accustomed to light recoil, the bang, and gained confidence and mover on to other calibers. That is the same situation with today's new shooters. A lifelong avoidance of firearms, tales of a gun knocking you on your butt. Videos of people being pranked by shooting larger guns, etc. IMO it is a must to start out with .22, either rifle or handguns. Become accustomed to things going bang and no discomfort. The .22 is an acceptable SD gun, especially for new shooters and even more so in experienced hands. Once the new shooter has decent skills and comfort they can move to different calibers if they so choose, not because some 'experienced' old hand said this is what you need and in doing so causes more fear and hampers the progress of a new shooter. All this said as the .38 revolver is a poor starter gun.

Another point to chew on. EVERYONE needs a permit, including LEO. That is true everywhere in the U.S. Constitutional/permitless carry within 1000 feet of school premises is a federal crime punishable by up to 5 years and/or up to a $5K fine everywhere in the U.S. The exception relevant here is a permit issued by the state (or city or county) in which the school zone is located AND that requires LE to do a check on the licensee to verify that they are qualified to hold the permit. There's also an exception for being on private property within the GFSZ. Careful readers will note that just having a state/city/county issued permit isn't enough. 1. It has to be issued by the state/city/county where the school zone is. If you are carrying out of your home state with your home state permit via reciprocity, be aware that every time you drive within 1000 feet of a school you are committing a federal crime. 2. The permit must be one that requires LE to do a check for eligibility/qualification. If your state/city/county issues permits upon request with no background check required, you are committing a federal crime any time you drive within 1000 feet of a school while carrying. Ask your Dr. about viagra or tadalifil. Studies show some benefits for staving off mental decline with daily use. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-53136-y

Shot one at RangeUSA in Knoxville. I wouldn’t get too excited about it. Reverse trigger safety. Depresses at top of trigger shoe.

New Tennessee State Gun Legislation
chances R replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
respectfully disagree with some of your generalizations. "most of us" maybe, but not the generally untrained, incompetent permit holders. I'll take my chances with LEO in comparison. You are responsible for your own safety and are your own 1st responder. If a business chooses to post their property, you have the choice not to go into that business. Take the USPS for example, no different than any other business except it is illegal to possess or carry on their property. Property owners rights must be respected, as is your choice. I do agree that the carry past signage should be a simple trespass at most. -
No. Federal law is the rule and no out-of-state handgun sales directly. Will have to do a transfer through a FFL. Carry permit has no bearing in this case

The bad guy will pick the time and place and sometimes avoidance just doesn't work. The state ECP course is a good start. It is not a 'graduate' course. Pistol craft is a continuing process.....you don't know what you don't know. Will your 5 rounds be sufficient against 3 BGs? Start with your state permit and continue your education and skill building

Just bought a Romeo X. Small footprint, the easiest controls of any I have used. Top load battery. dot, circle, or combo.

Close shots, you may or may not use dot, but you have already made a big step in helping with that.....keeping both eyes open. Also helps in low light.
