  1. Good news... Got my hands on one in .45 and the lightweight 9mm this weekend! Bad news is I don't know which one I want.  Both...if I could afford them.  I l love the all steel look of the .45 but love the feel of the LW 9mm, just not sold on the 2 tone yet. I guess I could cerakote it.  The 9mm seems like it would be more fun to shoot too.

I'v not handled the Officers but I put some rounds threw a commander that my brother owns. I'm not crazy about Rugers, but I have to say, they hit it out of the part with the commander. The fit & finish on a factory gun was surprising good. The slide/frame/barrel tolerances were as good as it gets. The trigger was perfect in stock form. This all comes together on the paper in a great group shooter. I put together the 1911 production line at A.O. back in 81-83 so trust me, The SR is a fine top tier production pistol but since your ready to throw down, you probably all ready know all that! Good luck finding one.

I had a Commander SR1911 that was a great shooter.  I sold it last year though.  I gravitate towards sub compacts, so when I saw they make an officers size, it's right up my alley.

  3. I chose lifetime.  For an extra $150 I never have to worry about it.  Plus you never know how much it will cost to renew in 8 or 10 years, they could make it $100 per year!  Or worse, they could stop issuing renewals.  To many are out to eliminate our 2nd amendment rights. I always think back to something I SHOULD have done, didn't want this to be one of them.

  4. I've heard anecdotal reports of Sam's involvement, and each one has been slightly different and all from local folks, but I've never read any industry accounts substantiating it and Custom Defense's own website makes no mention of it either.  That seems like something most any business owner would want to at least drop mention of in their marketing materials as it's "brag worthy".

Sadly one of the people I've heard repeating this story the most is Rick Uselton, and well Rick also claimed that he himself made all of his custom 1911s when the reality was Sam was doing the work.  Hell if Rick Uselton out there was telling folks that *I* was from Kentucky originally, I'd be skeptical, and I know that the truth is I really am.

All of that aside, Sam makes phenomenal 1911s and whether or not the Remington models have some of his "DNA" in them or not, they get really good reviews.

Uselton Arms opened in Franklin just before the R1 had come out.  I had spoken with Rick about them and he told me HE was involved in the production of the R1!!   I guess I'll just stick to the adage "believe none of what you hear and half of what you see"

  5. It can be done by cutting the grip frame, drilling for the mainspring housing pin, replacing the mainspring housing, replacing the grip panels, buying smaller magazine's, but why since officer size 1911's are available.

If it were me, I would sell the commander and buy an officer size 1911 or just keep the commander and buy an officer 1911.

I know I could BUY a CCO gun.  Isn't half the fun of a 1911 customizing it to make it your own i.e. checkering/golfballing/bobtailing/engraving/coating etc. I like the my SR1911 platform and for me the PERFECT SR1911 would be commander slide with and officer frame.  Ruger doesn't make an officer frame I'm aware of, so if a transformation would be relatively easy I would like to do it.  I have never had a bare commander and officer frame side by side for comparison to know if it is even possible.

  6. You can run a Officer's Model slide and barrel on a Commander frame if that's what is intresting you. But if your looking to convert a Commander frame to an Officers Model frame it's economically unfeasable. If you truly want an Officers Model frame then either trade or sell your exhisting Commander frame to obtain an Officers Model frame or purchase one outright.

I want the shorter grip length of an officer model.  I just wasn't sure if was as easy as just cutting it down and changing mainspring housing.

  7. Get a 19. You can use Glock 17 mags in it.

THIS ^^^^^^. juat add a x-grip to the 17 mag.  That's what I like about my 26, I can use 26/17/19 mags.   I really want to chop a 19 frame to fit all three mags.

  8. Kind of hard to tell, but the 2 middle pic look like hot spots my golden retriever had a few months ago.  Does your dog lick/chew on them at all. My dog would lick them constantly which made them worse.  She was given a steroid and some medicated wipes to resolve them.  I had just given her a bath a few days before they appeared on her legs, which the vet said is a common cause in goldens if they don't dry completely.

  9. My wife and I have this running battle over watching the kids.  She think it's eyes on them, all the time.  I tend to me a little more... I can still hear them so they're around here somewhere....  I get dirty looks when I let our 7 yr old go to the bathroom by himself in restaurants ("it's right there, I can see the door from here...").  While I wouldn't have let one wander off unattended at a football game, stories like this make me think I'm a little too lax sometimes.

Your not alone. I have had the exact same "running battle" with my wife about my 8 yr olds and 9 yr old going to a restaurant bathroom alone.  Just as you said, this story makes me feel too lax as well.
