Police officers think they should have special privileges because they are or we're officers. That is a concept that places them above a citizen in the hierarchy of society, which is IMO dangerous as it reinforces the "us-them" mindset that is hard for officers not to fall into, dealing with the parts of society they often do. That leads to more bad things. I know a number of officers. Most don't shoot much, and aren't super gun folks. Competent yes, but so can a civilian. So no, not bad guys, but yes elitists that need to remember they are a civilian. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

A recent study actually showed that most school shootings are conducted by students during the school day and by gang members. Folks we must concentrate on the reason we have those who want to visit violence on others, and the privy of self defense as a human right. We will never make things secure. Look at prisons. Many are very "secure" if you consider escape but not if you are inside and targeted by a predator. I, for one, do not want our schools to look like a secure facility with concertina wire and guard towers. Many references are made here about metal detectors. That is all well and good but they are rarely used and maintained as they are supposed to be. Weather change? You have to recalibrate most of those bad boys. Does anyone? No. Focus on the cause. It would make sense socially, criminologically, economically, and constitutionally. Just my two cents.

I was talking about this with my lady and we realized we were talking about two separate stories, same jurisdiction. David Eckert and then Timothy Young... 

They did, but then again I have liked some things that came out of them - National Treasure movies were pretty good. 

So they fired Michael Arndt from writing Star Wars Episode VII. He wrote Empire and Jedi as well as Raiders as I understand it.    I just had to vent, as I am worried that a beloved series from the childhood will be trashed in the same manner as Star Trek which has left me feeling like I ate empty calories after watching them.    Dang it.    /endrant

I was thinking that as I scrolled down reading what people had said. Let me know if it works out as I might take a gander for the exact same reason. 

TankerHC I hear the same things from Dallas and Houston. The big urban centers are also the center of $$ in a state and thus get to swing it quite a bit - look at California and New York. People not in the large urban areas can barely get a word in edgewise. The chuckleheads can focus their efforts there and sway the bulk of voters - and then Texas falls like others. 

Sounds good I will start looking at my calendar - fortuitous as I just dunked my cell phone in the sink where it stayed unknowingly for six hours yesterday. 

That is a amazing story, I have to admit I had something in my eye after I read it. Thank God for good people in uniform, it really makes me have hope when I look around and find so little to be excited about. 

  I agree with your post sir. I just do not agree with going after a right or denying a right to others because of it. That rather sets us up to pick and choose who can exercise rights based on some loose stipulations. I am also not entirely sure we do not need more activism. I have become much more likely to enter into a discussion about guns today with coworkers and such because I think that our point of view has been drowned out and I feel like I need to present that point of view before we loose our rights... I am not sure about activism with OC, but it is legal, so I do not have a reason to tell them no, even if it may not be the best of ideas.    Another thought: are we ashamed to be supporters of the Second Amendment, or that we carry firearms for self defense? I know for many it is a tactical choice, but I am fearful - fearful of police harassment to have a weapon OC. Even when backpacking - when CC is a royal pain. I am fearful of encountering the wrong officer and having problems stemming from it. That is not right either. 

Instead of being against them, why not be against the idea that we are making people uncomfortable by exercising our right and that should result in us limiting our rights? Is that not something more frustrating, that by making someone uncomfortable you can face a charge of disturbing the peace or be told to leave some place? The OC folks (and no I am not one, but may in a national park or something so yes I think it should be allowed) are not the problem. They are highlighting the problem, IMO - that suddenly there is a mindset that people have a right not to feel uncomfortable. I think that is a dangerous rationale.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse... For you as a citizen. 

Robert, the way I look at it the 2A is articulated, a public business therefore falls shorter than the individuals right. I admit my view is colored by the fear that one day we will be able to carry in our front yard and no where else if things go the way that they are going. Look around, it is happening. There are many places today that are posted that were not a few years ago because of the increase in media driving a perception that "guns are bad" and "guns cause crime." 

Thank you Blueghost. I feel that it is important to live a principled life, and although I fail regularly, I do try...  As for Walmart I think most people would not boycott. CCL folks are a small part of the country, and even then many do not even carry. Most people just figure they will keep on going and they will not be bothered... I think that is part of the reason we are where we are today as a nation, and as a society. 

Robert, I agree. I went in 2011 for the first time and it was truly a great time. I would probably not go back due to the carry issue, but I had to see my nation's capitol just once. 

  It is definitely an ambush which is I guess at its core why it bothers me so much. 

It was on the way home to watch football and I wanted some clothes for the coming week is my excuse. 

Please do sir. I think that we should be respectfully vocal about the fact that if lawful gun owners are not welcome, that we get the message.    Anyone have any suggestions around Morristown or Knoxville to buy decent mens business clothing?
