  1. Yeah, all I did to mine is empty the receiver out of the major component groups, clean and lube them without taking them apart. The gun would have to be broke for me to do that. LOL. I usually clean my guns every time they are fired, but I won't even do that with this one. I will run patches down the barrel ever time, and maybe take it down to the major components again every 500 or so rounds. These things are like tanks. They just keep right on running. Oh, and all 150 of the rounds I put thru it were the $1.97 lead federals. I love shooting that cheap.
  2. Just got back from the range. We put over 150 rounds thru the Glenfield, some as fast as I could pull the trigger, and no jams at all. The gun performed flawlessly. I guess I am going to sling and scope it. My wife wants to shoot it well enough to pick off small game like rabbit at 100 yards with CCI Velociter rounds.
  3. Sadly I had to take this one apart last night to clean it. It had audible grit in the action. When I got it apart it actually had mud in the bottom of it, not lead and residue, but actual mud. All the parts look good, so I am hoping for the best with it. I plan on getting her a scope eventually for it, but I want her to get some time on the sights first.
  4. Usually I am excited when I get a new gun, but this one tickles me to no end. My wife is very accurate with .22s, and loves them, but she is also one of those people that are very recoil sensitive. I had her shoot my Winchester 94 once. She pulled the trigger, said nothing, but just held it out by the forestock until I came up to the firing line and took it from her. She wanted nothing else to do with it. I really needed to get her a .22, but she hates messing with .22 mags, as do I. I walked into a store in Covington yesterday and walked out with a "Pre-1985" Glenfield Model 60 18 shot tube-fed for $85.00. I cleaned the mud out of it last night and got it oiled up. The stock is rough, but the action looks good. we will take it up to the Natchez range today to see how it runs. I think this is going to be perfect for her.
  5. My ideal candidate for President of the United States would look a lot like this... We need another like this.
  6. I buy the Federal Champion by the 100 count box at Wally world for right at $20.00 after ammo tax and sales tax. I have never had this ammo fail.
  7. Welcome. I used to live up in Fort Wayne. I hated it, but then again it does not have the scenery that the southern part of the state does. I still go there to see some friends occasionally, and have to catch myself when I tell a waitress I want sweet tea.
  8. I would buy a carbine. They seem to be made very well. The pistol I am not a fan of. They just seem "awkward" to me.
  9. I have a 92FS, and it is my favorite semi auto pistol bar none. I know some people do not like the long first trigger pull, but that is easily solved by cocking the hammer. I take mine to the range almost weekly. I have only had it about three months, but I have put about 600 rounds thru it and never had a single problem on a diet of Federal Wallyworld ammo. It is the pistol I choose to keep at the ready at home loaded with hollowpoints. I feel it to be perfectly safe with one in the chamber and the safety on. That said I really hope you do not plan on shooting a deer with a Beretta. Some things are just cruel. If you really want a good hunting pistol get a .44 magnum. Put the deer down, take him home and eat him. Don't cause him unnecessary pain and stress. He don't deserve that.
  10. Classic. I will have to remember this to quote later.

Just to update the post I made above I took my little J-22 to the Natchez Trace outdoor range today so that I could work on it while shooting it with out anyone going ape crap like they would at an indoor rental range. I ended up being able to file down the inside of the chamber getting rid of the dry firing damage from previous owner(s). I also widened the ejector slot to help it grab the casing. After this I ran thru 2 mags with no failures. For the rest of the day the only issues I had were about 1 in 4 FTF. When I was able to put the FTFs back in they fired fine. I think the firing pin is also wore down from all the dry firing, so I am going to replace that. I should then have a fun little plinker for a grand total of $60.00 including the new firing pin.
  12. I have always just used Hoppe's for everything. I love the smell of Hoppe's, but wife always complained that she did not like the smell. I have recently switched to cleaning with Remoil and lubing with Hoppe's to reduce the smell.

Thanks for the added info. I think for now I am going to try o get the J-22 I have running and then concentrate on getting a Ruger 10/22 or something like that.

I have a Jennings J-22 that I am trying to get running. It has been mercilessly dry fired by previous owners and the chamber is beat up from it. I have been wanting a Phoenix for sometime. I have heard good things about them.
  15. OP awesome story about you kids. I myself am starting early with my 4 year old girl. She has gone to the range a lot, and even watches me clean the Beretta at home. My wife asked her one day what I had and she said "that's just daddy's gun, but you have to be careful with it." That is exactly what I want from her. I want her to be respectful and safe around weapons, but I also do not want her to be overly curious about them. I think the over curiosity is the main culprit in accidents involving children.
  16. If you commit a crime in your Smart Car you will be pursued by this mean machine...
  17. I just want someone in Washington to stand up and use the phrase "act of war." By know everyone knows China will back down when pressured, but everyone is too busy kissing their collective asses. I miss Reagan.
  18. I imagine that might be a bad thing for a plastic gun. I would check their website for a "contact us" and see if you can send them that pic. They might not do anything for you, but they might look into the problem.
  19. Thanks everyone. I appreciate the welcome.
  20. Dang... I got beat to it.
  21. I just clicked on the Remember Me box, and when my browser asked if I wanted it to remember the password I said yes. I only registered yesterday, so I am totally new, but I have not had to sign in again. Do you have "cookies" disabled on your computer?
  22. Nice. My wife used the same weave to create belts for her and myself. They are great ways to "store" massive amounts of paracord.
  23. Also... Does anyone know of cheap ranges near Brownsville and/or Jackson? I just bought that 92FS, and need to get her warmed up. lol
