  1. Never really been into 1911s but I've heard good stuff about Rock Island Armory. Could anyone give me a second opinion on the used value of a very good condition compact model with box?
  2.   I was really hoping no one would say that.     That's a very interesting idea! I had actually done that to a large camp knife (tiger stripe). I ended up not liking it after a while so I just used mothers mag and polished the heck out of it. Come to think of it... It hasn't rusted! o.o I don't know what kind of luck I would have glass bead blasting and then trying to polish it. I don't know how I could get a nice or even force patina on the revolver though. Who knows what it would look like and would it REALLY offer any kind of advantage rust prevention wise - I don't know. I will think about that one.     The only gripe I have with this is whether or not it will give me any extra rust protection over a media blasted finish. I think what I am getting at is I would prefer the look of a non blued, matte finish. I am just greatly afraid it will rust every time I turn my back on it. This is what I am most curious about right now. I would just like to know how the gun would hold up if I had it glass bead blasted and simply oiled with excess wiped off with a rag. Your rifle appeared to turn out very well by the way. Very even finish as you said.      I don't think it would all match up very well. There are some spotting areas that I would like to address by blasting it.
  3. And if you know anybody who does any of this kind of work near Murfreesboro, let me know. Ya'll know what I'm looking for. Just no paint. If the metal underneath were nice and even I actually thought about sending it to Robar for nickel plating - $165! Lol
  4. You'll have to excuse me as I am sick and typing this up on my phone. I have recently acquired a Ruger Security Six .357 mag in relatively rough shape. There is quite a bit of spotting and bluing loss from holster wear. However the mechanics of it are fantastic. It's really tight, solid lock up, timing etc. In my opinion I think a quick sand or bead blasting would remove or hide most everything. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. The real issue here is that these blued security sixes are made of carbon steel instead of stainless steel (I think). I am concerned with further rusting if I do remove what bluing is left. Correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard that bluing doesn't really do all that much for weathering. I have heard on the other hand that bead blasting can help prevent rust by being able to hold oil and closing the pores left in the metal by harsher sand blasting. I do not like a painted revolver neither am I interested in paying to get it painted. That would be horrendous. Ideally I'd just like to have a glass bead blasted finish if it would hold up to home/range duty if I keep it oiled. I might consider a non-polish rebluing or park if they will actually help and are super inexpensive. I can take the whole thing apart short of the rear sight and cylinder button under the barrel for any work needed to be done. Any affirmations, suggestions, or comments are readily welcome. Give me a taste of reality based upon your experiences. Or I may just sell it! (Don't worry, I'm a benefactor! Lol)
  5. I would think a World War 11 mauser handgun would be quite rare and very expensive. We rarely see items from the future period. And you say that the owner of the firearm broke the prime directive and traveled back in time to 1945 and got captured? Please post a picture, we need to see this one.
  6.   That may just be what we'll do - I'll be keeping a close eye on them during this search. Thanks!
  7.   We have researched the breed a great deal and continue to do so. We are also well aware that 8 weeks is the preferred minimum. I mentioned six weeks so we might have more time in order to make preparations for a new pup.   To clarify, we are not looking for the best breeder in the United States. We are both college students and have too small of a budget too large of a one time expense. I WILL pick a breeder based on location and price IS important to us. We would prefer to find one from a registered breeder for a better guarantee of health and we have found some around the $400 range but many states away. I understand that they are an extremely popular dog and many issues exist as with many medium/large breed dogs especially ones bred as proliferously as these.   We are by no means looking for a show dog as you can see by our budget. We wouldn't even be against a rescue (we've had many with no problems) as long as we could, for once, raise one from a puppy. We have done lots of research and read lots of books about raising dogs as well as books specific to the breed. A little credit wouldn't be so bad.  :)
  8. Does anyone know or can anyone recommend any golden retriever breeder in the near to Middle Tennessee area? Me and my fiance are looking for a 6-10 week male golden retriever puppy and they seem nearly impossible to find without spending $1,000 plus. Is this the norm or am I just looking in all the wrong places? We have only ever had rescued dogs up to this point so we are venturing into new territory. Any advice, recommendations, or hook-ups would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :usa:
  9. But.. what about the things actually listed? I'm not really concerned about the "other lawful activity." Lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting. If it's one of the listed does that necessarily mean it's GTG and a legitimate affirmative defense? It doesn't sound right to me.
  10.   Correct me if I'm wrong but does this mean a person can carry a long rifle if you're camping (more specifically, back-country camping)? I remember looking into this before but I don't remember what was determined. Could someone expound upon this? Thanks.
  11.       I had asked how the permit was an exception to the GFSZA. You then edited your post and included the verbage of the law that helped with the question I posed. Forgive me for not immediately taking your word on the matter as solid fact and forgive me for posing a question, professor.
  12.   It would help if you weren't editing your posts every ten seconds. No need to make people look like an arse here.
  13.   I don't really think that's the case. Obviously there are no feds sitting on every campus waiting for someone to break a federal law. It's always state or local law enforcement who make the arrest or files state charges which are later dropped in lieu of more aggressive federal charges. As an example, look at how U.S. vs Lopez was handled.   Secondly, how is a Tenenssee handgun carry permit a defense or an exception to the Gun Free School Zones Act of 1990? It is my understanding that a TN HCP is only an affirmative defense against prosecution under state charges. If it were such an exception, what would stop a state from passing all kinds of laws to undermine all federal laws? I don't follow.
  14. If I am not mistaken I don't think any of these rules or new laws even matter. Doesn't Federal law prohibit the possession of firearms on ANY school property regardless of HCP or guns in trunks bill? I thought Federal law supercedes state law. This is why it kind of made me chuckle when I read that you can have a firearm in a car when picking up or dropping off a student.
  15. ..with good conscience I could have a beer or two while reloading but I just feel that it would be very irresponsible. I don't even drink away from home. Something very appealing about spending an evening kicking back, relaxing, turning on netflix, having a couple beers, and just reloading away. Oh well. Just out of curiosity, how do you guys feel about it? I'm sure some of you out there do it anyway, lol.
  16.   From my understanding it's actually the other way around. Other major cities give homeless one-way tickets to Hawaii to permanently get rid of them. Who would deny a ticket to Hawaii and what better place to be homeless? I was born and raised in Hawaii and I saw first hand the ten fold increase in homeless. I was a police officer there for a short while and it seemed like half of the cases were homeless related.
  17. Welcome to TGO, Eric. You'll quickly find that TGO is comprised of some of the best/nicest folks you'll ever meet online or in person. As far as places to shoot, have you been to the OK Corral Shooting Range in Woodbury? It's about 30-45 minutes from Murfreesboro. It's $5 to shoot all day. They have multiple covered pistol ranges (including a steel set-up), covered bench rest rifle (50, 100, and 200 yards), assault rifle/shotgun pit, and trap shooting.    Open Mon-Sat, 9am-7pm. Sunday noon to 7pm.   OK Corral Shooting Range 3300 Pleasant Ridge Rd Woodbury, TN 37190 615-653-3779
  18. I just had them installed today. Thanks everyone who offered to help. I was looking forward to meeting you in person, David. Perhaps another time. Thanks TGO!
  19. I just started doing it myself but I chickened out, lol. I think unless you have a bad ass press its gonna have to be filed a whole lot more. It goes on 1/4 the way by hand. I could probably tap it on the rest of the way but I think it would be better off being filed/fitted or pressed on straight with your sight tool.
  20. Tomorrow will work fine, thanks David. I work mobile from 8-5 and i come through Smyrna often. Let me know where it would be convenient to meet you and how I can contact you when I head that way.
  21. Anybody who can do it, gimme a call or text. I really appreciate anyone willing to help. I dont want to be without my carry gun. Ive got cash. Thanks TGO
  22. I can come back later if its more convenient for you as well, thanks. I really appreciate it.
