Going postal versus going FedEX? I would assume that it would be along the same lines, just more efficient:)

It was a valid question. No harm in bringing something up again. It just becomes a very personal decision if you want to break company rules and risk being fired. Probably not the best economy to go looking for a job right now. Where I work, there are no signs and if I happened to be a visitor or guest I could carry with no worry, but since I signed the employee rule book I choose to not have a firearm in my car. I am sure that other employees have chosen in the past to do the opposite, and I respect that decision; unfortunately I cannot justify it right now. I am more fortunate than some in that I do not have bad neighborhoods to go through on the way to work; I have no "imminent" threats, and I live close enough to work that I can swing by the house to get my firearm before going out to eat, shopping, etc. If these conditions were different, I might have to take a harder look at carrying to/from work. My company is based in GA and I have considered asking how the new GA laws are working out about firearms/cars in those locations, but if most of them are like us (we have private parking lot) then the GA law would not apply in that case either. Hopefully in a few years we will have the legislation in TN to protect us at work as well.

Carry in WMA's bill HB 0961
BBill_TN replied to victorcharlie's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This bill; the state park bill; and national park carry would have more of a positive impact on my life than the restaurant carry. Although now that we have it I am pretty happy about the restaurant carry too. -
Welcome from a former Knoxvillian.

Welcome.

Welcome.

There are also higher capacity magazines and kits to make standard magazines higher capacity as well available for the XDM's. That is if one would want/need any higher capacity:)

Great looking knives. Let us know when you get set up.

Some kind of nylon/breathable material with a wicking headband might also fit the bill for summertime. Sorry to throw too many things at you at once David:)

Welcome from just a few miles away. If you have a chance to post some pictures of your work, I am sure a lot of us would be interested in it.

It is the trip back to the trail head that hurts on this trip. Yeah it is a pretty easy trip for a day trip, but add some weight to your pack and it changes things a bit. I always over pack; I have some really light gear....but I just find more stuff to bring:)

Glad that you had a good time. I bet the water was flowing really well?

Having a HCP is only a defense to the "intent to go armed" as I understand it. "kind of like "incident to lawful purposes" hunting, camping, etc.

So if I am thinking correctly this would be the original Stainless? I think that these come without the firing pin block safety therefore are supposed to have a sweeter trigger pull (less things for the trigger pull to do.) I have the Stainless II (with the firing pin block safety) and really like the trigger on it, so could imagine what this one must feel like. According to my 1911 care manual from Bill Wilson, 1911's are supposed to be able to easily go 100k or more that with just simple maintenance/changing springs etc. Of course with today's ammo prices I can't imagine ever being able to get close to a number like that. Congratulations on the gun. At 8 k, I am sure it is just getting broken in.

I have been kayaking going on 3 years now, but canoed for 5 or so years before that. We have the Elk River down this way, an easy Class I float with lots of scenery. I know that the sit on top's are supposed to be great for fishing; getting in and out of etc., but I have never owned one. I know that during cold weather my sit in kayak offers more protection from the wind/cold etc especially combined with a spray skirt. So I guess that choice depends on how/when you are planning to kayak. Tandem vs. Solo Kayaks? I am sure there are fans of tandem kayaks...but I have never tried one. But if it is as hard as it would seem to be, I am not sure I would enjoy it. Even canoeing together puts an awful lot of stress on a relationship...lol. They say that a couple who can canoe together is guaranteed at least a 20 year relationship. Try it out first. Not sure what you have in Nashville, but I know in Knoxville that Blue Ridge Mountain Sports and River Sports used to have "Water Days" when you could try out their line of kayaks before you bought one. Also you might inquire at the canoe rental places near you, most have at least a limited fleet of kayaks. Good luck with your purchase. A bad day on the water is better than most other good days in life. If you ever get down to southern middle TN, make sure to try out the Elk River, and look me up. Bill

New Attempt at National Park Carry
BBill_TN replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
"allow individuals to carry loaded rifles, shotguns, and semi-automatic weapons in national parks if the firearm is in compliance with state law." Could just be just liberal hype....but I guess if the bill reads as "what is legal in the state that the nat'l park is located in" then that would include long guns in states such as Florida that allows Permit Holders to posess long guns. (maybe TN soon?) This is the liberal hype that caused me to let my Sierra Club membership lapse and to upgrade my NRA membership to Easy Pay Life. I don't mind someone arguing the other side of something, but their blatant attempt to inflame the issue very much irks me. Their e-mails about the Interior Department Process to change the carry law the last year of the Bush Administration urged members to speak out against it, and when that didn't materialize, it was all of a sudden "midnight legislation". In fact, their e-mail last year stated "we must keep guns out of our national park," and "the decision would allow loaded guns in our parks," but never mentioned the fact that it would be Handgun Permit Holders and not just everyone. But I guess in states such as Alaska, it would be everyone since you are not required to have a permit in a few states.....but that is a stretch and is along the same lines as our media outlets coverage of these issues. -
New Attempt at National Park Carry
BBill_TN replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I recieved the following e-mail from NPCA yesterday urging their members to contact their Senators and Representatives to oppose loaded guns in National Parks....I urge you to instead let your Senators and Representatives know that they can trust law abiding citizens with firearms wherever they may go. "UPDATE: Last Friday we sent you a very important alert about the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act (H.R.627), which holds a dangerous rider that will allow loaded guns in our national parks. Tuesday, May 19th, is our last chance to strike this rider allowing loaded guns in national parks! Tomorrow, the National Parks Conservation Association is co-hosting a press event with Congressman Raul Grijalva, Chairman of the National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands Subcommittee, requesting that President Obama work to withdraw this rider allowing loaded shotguns and rifles in our parks. You can support our event on the hill by taking action now. This is our final chance to stop the guns rider. Tell your Senators and Representatives to oppose this effort to allow loaded guns in our national parks. Please take action TODAY to help put a stop to this dangerous rider from becoming law! ********************************* Dear William,<table style="border: 1px solid rgb(94, 151, 50); margin-bottom: 40px; margin-left: 20px;" align="right" border="0" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" width="220"><tbody><tr><td> </td></tr></tbody></table> What does credit card reform legislation have to do with national parks? We asked ourselves that same question. But the rules of the U.S. SenateSen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) attached a rider to the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act (H.R.627) that would allow individuals to carry loaded rifles, shotguns, and semi-automatic weapons in national parks if the firearm is in compliance with state law. The Coburn rider overturns the existing, reasonable Reagan-era regulation that allows guns to be transported through national parks as long as they are unloaded and stowed away. Seven former Directors of the Park Service and current and former park rangers oppose the rider because they believe it will increase the risk of poaching and vandalism of historic resources, and put visitors at risk. So in this difficult economy, when American citizens are looking to their Congress for economic reforms and relief, we see a bill hijacked by special interest groups like the NRA who are reckless in their determination to get loaded guns into our national parks. Within the next week, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives could be voting on this bill. Please tell your Senators and Representative that you’re fed up with political gamesmanship, and ask them to stop this dangerous rider from becoming law. Take action now! being what they are, Thank you! Thomas C. Kiernan President <hr> This message was sent to you by the National Parks Conservation Association. E-mail us at npca@npca.org, write to us at 1300 19th Street, NW, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20036, or call us at 800.NAT.PARK (800.628.7275). Can't see this message? View it at the NPCA Web Site." It would be nice if the NRA would send out nice little e-mails with Hypertext to make it as easy for us to communicate our side of the story. <hr color="#aaaaaa" size="1" noshade="noshade"> -
Welcome from across the border in Franklin County.

I think that in NC, Banks are off limits....seems like I read that somewhere in my travels. And Welcome to the Boards Septicsam from another Franklin Countian.

+1 On Virgin Falls....great hike. Also South Cumberland Recreation Area (State Park) has quite a few opportunities for trailhead camping or backpacking if you want. Several different natural areas all managed as one park. Fiery Gizzard near Tracy City, and Savage Gulf are great areas. Make sure you bring a filter for your water.

Good deal DRM. Always thought it was kind of a ripoff to have to register a boat only for using a trolling motor...seems to me any kind of electric propulsion should have a waiver. Would be nice to run across another kayak at a good price; need one for the new gf. Now the only option if we both go is my canoe.

Don't forget to put #'s on the canoe once it is under motor power (or sail power for that matter in TN) also risk of BUI's comes along with the convenience:) 'tis why I always paddle my own canoe...lol Seriously though great find for a kayak. Have one myself, but always thought a sit on top would be nice for fishing.
