  1. Did you check out their holster selection for the XDM? I have been meaning to get by there sometime and pick one out for my XDM9, but not sure what kind I am looking for yet; something leather I think.
  2. My Stainless II is the 5 inch model, but still had that problem in the first 120 rounds...began to wonder if it was the slide stop itself or if I was somehow putting presure on the slide stop with my left hand somehow during recoil, but it corrected itself and has been flawless ever since so guess I can quit worrying about it. I used the original magazine (mec-gar? I think) and two Wilson ETM's that same day and the problem existed with all three intermittently, so something else was at work.
  3. Do you mean that the slide is locking back as if the mag is empty? I have read that the slide lock sometimes has extra material that causes this and that by taking the slide lock out you can see from wear marks what is causing this and can fix it. I researched this when my Stainless II did this in the first 120 rounds. But from the 120 round mark mine has been flawless. And according to everything I read, a call to Kimber will get another slide lock sent to you for free of course...probably no different than the one you have though, but might be handy if you take too much material off of the original.
  4. A friend of mine at work just traded for one. It is an OD Green with black slide version. He says it is very accurate. He has been really wanting the 5.7 but is cash poor right now. I think he has been trying to work some trades with the local dealer, but not sure if he has a cash price in mind.
  5. Ascend wouldn't cash a check for me once because it was more than my average balance since I had not been using my account there recently....so I said give me my 7$ balance and see you later after having an account there for 24 years (since I was 12). Got a better auto loan rate at Regions so went with them and am still currently using them.....but wrote a check a couple of years ago to a college buddy of mine for season tickets and the Regions in Knoxville wanted 5 $ to cash it for him....and even had the audacity to explain to him that if he was a customer he wouldn't be charged the 5$ fee....and of course he asked them why would he want to bank somewhere that charged 5$ to cash a check on their bank? I am with you Paletiger.....they are all the devil...lol
  6. Keep me posted about this range if you could. I had been meaning to check into it.
  7. Welcome to TGO from just up the road. You have some gun friendly folks down that way. People at the Driver's License place and the Sheriff's Dept were more than happy to get me all fixed up with everything I needed to send my permit info in.
  8. Welcome to TGO. About 8 miles from ya.
  9. Welcome to TGO. I live not far from you and do quite a bit of shooting in Murfreesboro, but with the warm weather coming and my recent aquisition of a rifle, I am also looking for something outdoors with a bit more of a range and of course closer to us would be nice as well.
  10. Congratulations on the weight loss. Great pictures, too. I definitely miss being an hour away from those mountains.
  11. yeah I made the comment the other day in Hero Gear that I was holding out for a 100th anniversary edition.....not sure what will be offered but maybe I will have enough money by then but am sure that Colt will want a pretty penny for such an item.
  12. Maybe an anti-Glock group then? lol
  13. Hmm.......Thanks for the input and for the follow up defense for me guys:) Guess I shouldn't carry in Wal-mart either or maybe should just disarm for the beer isle. Think the lady stocking the milk would hold it for me til I got past the beer isle?
  14. Hey there David. I noticed that your posts were getting close to Marswolf's total a few weeks ago and it started me thinking. I wasn't active enough at the time to really get to know him, but I still at times read complete threads and find his input insightful. Was thinking maybe we could name a section after him or something since his name is no longer on the top poster spot....maybe a 1911 section or maybe just name the 1911 group in honor or something. Anybody else got any ideas?
  15. Yes, after thinking about it and not being 100% reassured by the owner, I think I might have to take my business elsewhere. Not that he would notice too much, but for 8 years I have pointed anyone and everyone in his direction due to his prices; so I guess I might spend the next few years pointing people elsewhere. I have a very good friend that I work with and also shoot with quite a bit that's father is on the Chamber of Commerce and active in the local GOP....surely he can find me a liquor store owner that is 100% behind legal carry. Thanks for all the input guys.
  16. Update Ok fellas. I got off work early today and swung by the store in question to speak to the owner. I now have a bit of mixed feeling, but maybe in time it will work itself out. Turns out that she is not the owner's wife...not sure about the relationship or just employee. I informed him of the situation, of which he was already aware. I reminded him that I frequented his store on a weekly basis during football season for the 6 years I had season tickets. I explained to him that 218,000 Tennesseans had permits and that I would like to continue to patronize his store but I wanted to make sure everything was ok with him for me to do so. He thanked me for coming in and told me that he had been a bit concerned about the situation. But he did express his uncomfortableness with people being armed in his store, but I think this was mostly that he was concerned with people's reactions when they see guns. He said that he would rather that I would leave it in the car, but that if I did bring it in to make sure to keep it concealed. Not sure if this is a victory or not, but guess it is definitely not a defeat. So at this point I guess I just conceal and continue to shop there, but making sure to go in while the owner is there and maybe he will soften a bit. That being said when I spoke to him about the incident at the liquor store in Nashville a while back where the HCP holder saved the day...he was all for it back then....guess some people like the right results but have a hard time getting their mind around what it takes to get those results or at least have a chance for those results.
  17. archerdr1, I definitely see your point about the not going back, but without going back I would have had a brief "trespassing" conversation with her......going back unarmed gave me the right to be there and selling her on the idea for any period of time.......and I live in a small town and somehow think I can make a difference. you know.....if there had been a sign or a we don't allow concealed carry attitude, I would have been much more rude....but she was really just not sure what to make of it. If it takes me a 30$ Hero Gear gift certificate to give to them this Christmas, I will make them a believer:) lol
  18. If it is like last year; pretty much any weekend you want to come I will be on the Elk. For the Buffalo you guys name the dates and I will try to be there. The Elk is kinda hard to find overnight spots along the way (but can be done). The outfitter is situated where you can shuttle upstream and float back to the outfitter's campsite or float from the outfitter and shuttle back. But they do offer 2 or 3 day trips where you carry all your stuff with ya and camp along the river. The outfitters campsite does get loud (as most car camping sites) but if you sleep well then you might be ok there.
  19. yes. spread the word. Am glad that was a positive. I educated the security at the liquor store tonight that it was no longer sold or served......I have seen that sign a lot lately. My dad works security at a marina that still has that sign up....and I have not made a point to bring it to their attention....but like your new friend said....maybe in a few months that will not matter.
  20. Anybody in Middle TN, the Elk River here is great for canoeing. I backpack with some friends of the owner of the outfitter and it is always a good time. One of the other outfitters in Lincoln County (changed ownership) used to offer canoe rental and HCP Class. If anyone is up for an Elk River Trip this year, I will do the grilling.
  21. but I think that I can carry there now:)......and with a bit more exposure I think that anyone could or at least they would be more receptive of it....that being said........I have over that past 14 months probably shopped there 15 times and always carried...just happened to get made this time........can't beleive I got made with my Kel-tec....have had my 5" Kimber IWB there before (with jacket though) ....lol..... Guess this has to be my pet project. I am going to stop and talk to her husband Monday and see what he makes of it. I had a conversation with him after the incident on Whitebridge Road in Nashville where the HCP holder killed one perpetrator and injured the other in the liquor store robbery and he seemed to be on the good side there........just have to try to keep people less freaked out I guess. She was telling me about an ABC agent in her estabishment wearing a sidearm and not announcing himself........I educated them about open carry as well....(although I don't subscribe to that especially) but to tell you the truth....maybe that would have freaked them out less than my stealth (lol) PF-9. Still can't beleive the guy made me.......I wore it all summer in T-shirts and shorts, Don Hume IWB 4:30
  22. Thanks for the kudos Rightwinger. I think I might work the angle of trying to get the lady (she is the owner's wife...guess that makes her the real owner...lol) to pursue the permit route. The area is in a bad part of town (being a town that has nothing of a bad part compared to our metropolitan cousins)...and she expressed to me that when they were having problems with thugs, that the police promised to patrol more, but had never. Of course police resourses are stretched and I am sure that a concerted effort to make one business feel safe gets lost in the mix, so maybe we can get someone else taking responsibility for their own safety as well.
  23. After carrying for 14 months, I finally got called out on it. Ok folks; here's the story. Today I put on a shirt long enough to cover my Kel-tec PF-9 IWB, but a bit more snug than I usually wear, but wasn't too concerned as a few months ago I gave up on worrying so much about concealment. After breakfast at a local restaurant, a trip to Nashville involving several hours of shopping at a pool/billiards/leisure store, and a quick trip to the Outpost, I decided once back in my hometown to stop by the liquor store for something later tonight. Upon entering I didn't really get a chance to greet the lady working as she was already involved in another conversation...given the chance for a greeting and a smile, I doubt she would have been too suspicious (lol)....I immediately went to the Bourbon section and was weighing the selection (maybe bending a bit to read prices) when she asks me , "is that a gun you are wearing?" I of course say, "yes ma'am," "is that a problem?" Not sure exactly of the interchange from there....was a bit nervous myself:)....anyway, she made it clear that it made her uncomfortable and she would rather me leave it in the car, but I was welcome to come back and shop. I explained to her that I thought it would be ok as I had talked with her husband on several occasions...never telling him I carried concealed but getting his general opinion on such issues. That being said...somewhere in the conversation she stated that she had a gun of her own and I told her great I would feel better as long as one of us had one. I proceeded to my car and disarmed. I returned to store and had a long conversation with her about the process of getting a permit (she was interested in getting one) and it turns out a gentleman there with her...guess he was working security (a former police officer) had outed me to her. Not sure if it was heavy printing or my shirt had ridden up, but either way he made me. The gentleman was still under the impression (as the old law was) that you couldn't carry where it was sold or served, but I educated him on the update of where it is sold is ok...served still a no no.... and I got to hear some advice and old war stories from him...seemed like a nice guy. She said she would probably have not had a problem with me carrying if she had known me (I don't go often enough apparently) So I asked her if she would remember me next time and she said that she hoped so (guess she was a bit freaked out too) and said next time maybe tell her when I come to the door..... but not so sure it would be smart to say I gotta gun as I enter a liquor store..... All and all a positive experience (minus the disarming) but thought it was worth it to go back in and make a case for us. Especially since she let me know she was armed. And somehow anyone with a gun on the right side makes me feel a bit safer. What do you guys think? I did explain to her that some people might have been offended enough to take their business elsewhere, but since she had been so nice and I really liked their prices, that I had to come back in:)
  24. That is a sweet looking gun.
  25. Been meaning to check out the Buffalo River; keep me in the loop. Have kayak and canoe. Usually spend most of my river trips on the Elk River down this way....but always up for another adventure.
