  1. Good thing that Strickj brought his thinnify lens.
  2. Also NC is a must inform state. TN is not. Makes for some gray areas for sure. My problem with the weapon in my cargo pocket is that with each stride the weapon slaps my leg. Very annoying after the first mile or so.
  3. Carry in TN State Parks is already legal; so would be a great place to try different carry methods out. I tried the cargo pocket method with a pocket pistol, and Suntzu is correct about that one...not the best method IMHO. Might be better with a smaller pistol like my Kel-tec P-32 and a larger weapon carried deeper, maybe in a accessible backpack compartment. I have been looking for a 'camera" type bag to wear on the hip belt of my pack, capable of concealing a compact or full size weapon. I think it was Tactical Response at the Expo that had a large assortment of bags on display that one or more of would have fit that purpose, but I didn't get to shop too much. Last trip for me was just a few miles in, and I carried my full size OWB with a jacket over, hip-belt of the backpack cinched over the rig. Actually pulled the gun in nicely, but didn't dig into me too badly, but would think this might be a bigger problem for higher mileage...and also to access you would have to release the latch on your hip-belt, but still readily accessible.
  4. Everyone that I work with is in the loop on this one. I passed out about 50 or so cards; have about 20 or so confirmed that they were coming at some point during the weekend. And we all got our vacation checks direct deposit tonight, so they might even spend a little money. One of the older fellows I work with told me tonight that he was ready for the show, that he wished it (the show) was tomorrow (Friday).
  5. Thanks for all the comments guys. Actually cold weather (within reason) is pretty easy to pull off with the right equipment and layering of clothes. I guess over the last 10 years or so, I have found the system that works for me down to +5 to -5 or so. Actually on this trip, wind was virtually nonexistent and I think the temps were only in the mid to upper twenty's. I pitched the tent before there was more than a dusting of snow (on top of packed snow is much colder). Also snow on top of the tent is actually a great insulator (lots of dead air space in fluffy snow). I woke up during the middle of the night and had to take my fleece cap off that I was wearing under my mummy bag because I was a little too warm actually. As far as women and cold weather camping; maybe one day I will find one cool enough to take along, but for now I tend to camp in this kind of weather to avoid the women in my life. Nice quietness and solitude in the woods.
  6. In case anyone didn't notice, last weekend here in Middle TN we had a bit of camping weather. No better way to greet the morning than some snow on the ground. These were taken at Savage Gulf in South Cumberland Recreation Area, Tennessee's finest wilderness State Park. And below is Savage Falls.

    Bad News

Sorry to hear that. My Dad has been diabetic since I was young, and I know it is a lot of work to try to stay on top of your glucose levels. Just hang in there and try to take care of yourself; you only have one body.
  10. Maple Bend Deer Processing Maple Bend Road, Winchester, TN Phone: (931) 967-4658 County:Franklin Owner: Corey Walls The rates vary depending on the services wanted. This is my step brother-in-law. Seeing as he hooked me up with some tenderloin, minute steaks, and lots of hamburger today; I am thinking I should plug his business for anyone local that might need his services.

    Where to go?

Yes I think somewhere in the forum rules, there is something about rubbing stuff like that in. Isn't there? )
  16. Welcome from over in Franklin County.
  17. I remember partying with some people on Y2K. About 12:30am January I remember someone trying to sell a couple hundred cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew really cheap...lol. That little panic brought used generator prices down for about six months.
  18. You do have a point there OhShoot. I would assume that at least my first two examples would be the same as private entities that they would have to post. Not sure about Prentice Cooper....I think that might be ok now too with it being a state forest right? Think that is my understanding. By the way, I would recommend this trip to anyone. Definitely a different way to see Chattanooga. A friend and myself did it by canoe back then. I have been wanting to go back and do it by kayak sometime soon though.
  19. That is a nice looking gun Kano. After witnessing your shooting skills first hand, I am not so sure it matters too much the gun though; seems like you squeeze every bit of accuracy out of anything you shoot.
  20. "Mayan Calendar 2012:NOT! Dr. Carl J. Calleman's long count interpretation points to 10/28/11. "Hollywood" just rounded it up to make it more marketable!" An archaeologist friend of mine posted this the other day on his facebook page...10/28/11 is pretty close to an election day though but not the right year.
  21. Welcome from Franklin County.
  22. I think from what I learned from the previous threads here that the TN river is fine for carry. Along the Blueway though I am not sure about the stopover/camping points. The island in downtown Chattanooga (Maclellan Island) is managed by the Audubon Society. Williams Island further down is managed by the Tennessee River Gorge Trust as I think that Pot Point further down is as well (or it could be part of Prentice Cooper?). I think Hamilton Country Sheriffs Office polices Maclellan, and that some other entity keeps an eye on Williams Island. I made the trip a few years ago on Easter weekend (early in the kayaking season) and saw no one at any of the campsites. I know you have to have camping permits from each of these places if you are planning on camping, but not sure how that would relate to legal carry. I made my arrangements too late for them to mail out permits, and they all gave me verbal permission and their names/numbers if I had any problems.
  23. Put my name in the hat too. I will also be off work that Friday if you need any help earlier.
  24. This is great. Thank you for posting this. I now live on the other side of the state, but have many friends that still live around Knoxville, so I will pass it on. Also I will stop in next time I am in Knoxville; usually up that way about 7 or 8 times a year.
