  2. Unfortunately, the past 7 years has taught me that just because I now believe a thing "impossible " to happen in the USA..........that doesn't mean it won't happen.
  3. So, something like gunshow purchase for cash from individual is the best way to try to keep big brother from coming for the gun or 'asking' to buy it from me.
  4. Re #3, from Wikipedia.....   The dealer also records all information from the Form 4473 into a required "bound-book".[3]A dealer must keep this on file at least 20 years, and is required to surrender the log to the ATF upon retirement from the firearms business. The ATF is allowed to inspect, as well as request a copy of, the Form 4473 from the dealer during the course of a criminal investigation. In addition, the sale of two or more handguns to a person in a five-day period must be reported to ATF on Form 3310.4.   If the older 4473 information is not in digital format, I wonder how "accessible" the data is.
  5. Sorry if this topic has been addressed in past posts....   1)  In TN, are our guns "registered"?   2)  If not "registered" per se, does the government (state or federal) have access to information on specific guns purchased in gun stores?   3)  if the answer to #2 is "yes" how far back is this information available to the government?   4)  what is the law (responsibility of seller or buyer) in documenting a private sale?   5)  if there is a law re #4 what is penalty for non-compliance?   6)  what about gifts of guns to adult children?
  6. Wasn't intending to rub anyone's fur the wrong way.....just a citizen curious about what information my government has and what it doesn't have.
  7. So when my friend brags that the government doesn't know if or how many guns he has (because they have all been "private" sell/ purchases)..... Can I say the same thing....even though all my purchases ( since '98) have involved the required background checks?
  8. Not sure if this is the right spot....but here is the question.......... Over the past 20+ years I have purchased many guns, mostly in TN. Since the start of background checks....when was that?......does that mean that the government has or can create, a specific list of the exact guns I have purchased? If so.....is there any practical difference between background checks and "registration" of each gun?
