    Season 4

Could be. The little sister said she (the older one) was messed up and not weak. I think it is the medic but you may be on to something.
  2. If you want a smooth top you should look at the birch plywood at the big box stores. It is used for cabinet construction and is smoother than pine plywood. It is about twice the price (45+\-). If that is more than you are looking for, try a store like 84 Lumber. I bought a piece of 4x8 pine plywood for my workbench in my shop that was A/C grade. The A means no not or blemishes. This will be much smother than any of the pine plywood at Lowes/Home Depot. Most lumber yards can cut down sheets of plywood so you should not need to cut it yourself. Just take the measurements with you.
  3. I think we had a little over an hour to get to the range so most people just picked something up on the way. Make sure that you have eye and ear protection. It is required. One guy had to go buy one or the other on the way over.
  4. I took mine at Pellissippi a year ago and shot out at the range on Rifle Range Road. The instructor was a retired LEO and range saftey officer and really easy going. We had to watch the lame videos but he also brought in a dozen hand guns of different types, calibers and sizes to show everyone the different types (if you had not seen them before). He seemed to go out of his way to make the couple of revolver guys feel welcome and not out of place with all of the semi auto guys, not that they should have to care, but it was a nice thought. He also covered some real life situations and out comes that made the class more interesting then I had expected. The range was all business but was a piece of cake. They lined us all up (15 I think) and we fired at the same time, just keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready (and told) to shoot. We did that at all four distances than took down the papers and left. I hope this helps ease any worry. I know I was worried before I went.
  5. I have not seen a new date yet (I assume we are a no go for this Sunday). Count me in if I can work it out at the new time.
  6. It's almost that time of year again. Anyone know of any good spots for fishing and camping when using a kayak? I know some folks that have fished and camped out of there kayaks on the Nolichucky, but are there any other good locations? Lake? River? I have fished on Melton Hill and the Clinch River out of my kayak and have camped on an island on Norris out of a ski boat, but I was looking for other locations. Preferably in East/Middle TN but any suggestions (lower eastern KY, upper AL/GA) would be helpful.   Thanks,
  7. While I agree that I would like to see the jerks put out of "business", I am sure the media would run with it. All we need is a bunch of so called "proof" that private gun sales are out of control and need to be regulated or out lawed. But it may come to that anyway.
  8. I hope it will be like the 380 ammo. You could not find it at all for a few years and now that's about all I see when Wally has any ammo.
  9. There is a Shoney's at Walker Springs Road just off the interstate in west Knoxville if interested. That may be more centrally located and easy to find for most. Something else to think about is that a lot of folks go out to ORSA on Saturday mornings and may not be able to attend at that time. Just a thought.
  10. I used a section of 3 inch PVC pipe that had one end plugged to clean the barrel of both of my 91/30s. I poured a simple green solution in the PVC while I stood it on end and then dunked the barrel in the tube. A few dozen dunks on both ends of the barrel along with wiping down and running patches through it came out really clean. I repeated the process several times to get it completely clean.
  11. You can train your kids all you want but it is their friends that you really need to worry about. When I was 16 I was at friends house with a bunch of guys. We were all in my friends bedroom when another friend pulled the first friend's shotgun out of his closet while he was out of the room. He then pointed it at me and started acting like a fool. The first friend came back in the room and flipped out. Yep, loaded, with one in the chamber. Let's just say I was not a fan of that maneuver. Some folks here may disagree with me on this, but remember, the odds of someone breaking in your house while you are home is slim, while you kids are there all the time. My suggestion is get a safe as some of the others have said. You can even get the large shotgun sized safes for under the bed if you prefer that. And as Makiaveli said, make sure that you are awake enough if you plan on walking around with one in the chamber. Kids messing around in the house at night can startle you. If you are already tense and not fully awake, you don't want to be surprised by junior coming around the corner. I still remember a time years ago (before I had a gun) when my wife woke me up because she "heard" something downstairs. I was halfway down the stairs before I was even awake enough to realize that I was even walking down the stairs.
  12. First, I believe we are in for some kind of ban. Magazine capacities, "black guns", amount of ammo that you are aloud to purchase at one time, etc. But nothing to the extent that some of the conversations are suggesting. I may be wrong but I don't think the rank and file politicians would want to commit that kind of political suicide. What does have me I curious is the so called gun show loop hole. What would be gained by the government with this kind of legislation? You could still hurt someone with the gun purchased at a gun show, it won'tprevent anything from happening. Some people may be stopped but they willjust by a gun through other channels. I believe it would be taxes. No one has talked about it (I have missed it if this has been discussed) but it makes perfect sense with the political mindset. Think about the untaxed revenue that flows through the purchase and sale of firearms between private individuals in this country. What politician wouldn't like to get their hands on a piece of that action. What form that would take, I don't know. Maybe it would just be a $50 cost for us to do a private background check, or maybe we will have to give the type of firearm and cost as part of the background check, thus supplying the government with a way to asses the proper "tax" that must be payed. Maybe that is part of the gun registration talk that is being floated. Sure it could be used as a way to know where the guns are if there was a gun grab, but what if it is to set it up like car sales, just a way to quantify a tax. Just something to think about. Again, I may just be clueless about the whole thing. I probably am. :)
  13. Sounds like you did great. I just watched the first one that I went to and was ready to start right then. I hope to try the one next month in Oak Ridge if I can get all the gear that I need. I was still trying to get mags for my pistol and now ammo is hard to find. This current craze has unfortunatley put my IDPA shooting on hold for now. But I will be out there eventually. :pleased:
  14. The rifle in the opening of Lone Wolf Mcquade and how about the scene in Pedator when they cut down the forest with the big guns? Who wouldn't want to do that? Carbine Williams was petty good to.
  15. Funny how the same folks that want to call gun owners/carriers "baby killers" are the same people who will openly support abortion (in most cases) The left want gun control to help "save the lives of innocent children" but will do nothing to help the unborn. It makes me sick.
  16. I am a registered land surveyor in TN & KY and work on the office end of land surveying with an engineering and land surveying company. So I don't have any pictures of my computer but picture Mt Rushmore in your head and remember that to us surveyors, it is a monument to the three surveyors and the other guy. :)
  17. I don't know if I will be able to upgrade any time soon with the craziness that is going on right now. Let alone get any ammo. I looked on midwayusa today to see if I could get a couple magazines for my Ruger and they all were listed as out of stock. I figured on this gun there would still be some, but I guess everything is getting bought up.
  18. Get the donkey. I have heard that from many "old" farmers. They will get the job done.
  19. I got my first mosin at Jay Floyd's for $90 last year. It is a round receiver with all matching numbers. After cleaning it up she shoots great.
  20. Go for a 22 for your first rifle. You could get a rifle, scope, soft case, ammo, cleaning kit and ear protection for around $200 total if you can find a used rifle on the classifieds. I bought a semi auto marlin 795 for $100 a few months ago and it's a good little shooter and is very easy to clean.
  21. Interesting that you are offended by people questioning the authority of police but then you turn on this guy in the same way. I don't think you are helping your cause with this behavior. You are just proving the point of those that are against you. And You apparently feel the same about the ranger that some of the other folks on here feel towards your profession. It is also interesting to look at the professions of those that seem to be attacking each other. There are deffinitly some trends there. Just saying, it is an interesting topic.
  22. I will not be able to attend but thank you for putting this together. I would be interested if you do another one, just let us know. Thanks,
  23. I was actually commenting on the one right after my last post. I do agree with you, that is what we do on these forums. We discuss things. And yes, we don't know the whole story most of the time, and to assume anything either way is not prudent. It is hard to tell what someone's tone on these forums is just by reading the text. I know I am pretty bad about that very thing sometimes, so I try to wait to respond to other peoples posts. I would wager that if we were all sitting in a room this would be a pretty light hearted discussion (maybe not).
  24. "The joy of Monday morning quarterbacks." Umm...... It's Friday morning. You didn't make detective did you? Just kidding, I know the cliche. If the comment was directed at me, I will say that I wasn't telling him how to do his job, just pointing out that that seemed unsafe to me. If that offended you I am sorry, but you should not "jump to conclusions" as you say. As for the OP, I would not have a problem with what the guy did if he was professional about it like the OP stated. I don't mind helping someone out. With that in mind, I don't think that it is right that cops ride alone, especially at night. I assume this is because of budget constraints but it just seems wrong. A cop has too much going on in front of him in a stop to be aware of everything that is going on or that what could happen.
