do you let others know you carry?
Marswolf replied to jgrauman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That is horrible. But it being a doughnut shop does make it ironic. And notice that the robber came back for the free gun. I think someone in this thread suggested that might happen to OCers. Oh yeah, that was me who said it.... -
When I was shooting the Glock, I didn't realize I was compensating for it. I guess a Glockie could claim that the Glock was the only properly ergonomically designed gun I had and that I was compensating for all the rest of them. Why not just do what I did and trade the Glock for something more to your liking?
-
I guess he's gone. Stan was a purchasing agent for a chemical company. Had a gun shop out back of his house. Nice guy.
-
This is what happened to me with the G26. I compensated for the gun and it shot OK, but when I picked up an XD-9 subcompact and shot it, I was still compensating for the Glock and the XD didn't shoot where I pointed it - or so it seemed. I had to remind myself that I wasn't shooting the Glock and shot the XD as though it was my Beretta 92. Then the rounds went where they were supposed to go.

do you let others know you carry?

Even if true, the crime just gets postponed or shifted to another victim, not prevented? -
Hero worship is a wonderful thing. (I like Clint too. I bought his first album when it first came out. Have more too.)

Well, the question is which is the grandiose dream - saving the day because a BG doesn't know you have a gun or deterring a crime because they know you do have one. Personally, if I'm a thug, I want you to open carry. You will be my first victim and I'll know I'm getting another gun out of the deal. -
Slushee Question for August: Manual Safety or No?
Marswolf replied to dcloudy777's topic in Handguns
Perhaps worth noting is that Beretta puts out a "G" series of pistols, like the 92G-SD that has a spring return on the de-cocker/safety that basically eliminates the safety. They were originally only sold to LE and military users. If I was buying my 92 today, that is what I would get. -
Check http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2626. There are some reports there from shooters of the PF-9

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal if someone knows I have a HCP. I don't particularly care if people know I pack, as long as they aren't the people who would want to attack me. I'd just as soon those folks not know I have a way to protect myself and launch a preemptive strike. As far as people who have seen my HCP who don't need to, there aren't many. There are even fewer who have seen my government ID. My wife and one friend. The rest are coworkers. Well, that's not quite true. People who have seen the picture of my knife covering strategic parts of the ID have seen it. You just haven't seen all of it. -
Yeah, it sounds like a noise ordinance issue to me. I asked a friend about this some time ago, just before he took the bench as a judge. He was a county assistant prosecutor before that. Basically a city can pass such ordinances but a county may not. They would have to have the state legislature pass a private act. So, yes...the city cops could have arrested you.

Oh good. I was afraid this was gonna be another OC vs CC topic. Good post, jgrauman. You bring up a good point about IDs. I carry my TN carry permit behind my DL. My government ID is on the other side of the flap that holds the DL and CP. If you don't need to know about the CP or my government connections, you'll never see the other IDs. It's just a matter of prudence. My wife would say that the guys flashing their CPs as IDs are just cowboys and lack the maturity to carry. -
Welcome to TGO! A question for you. Is Lock, Stock & Barrel gun shop still in business in your area? I bought a handgun from them back in the 80s. I think the owner's name was Stan.
-
Razor, you should send the gun back to Kel-Tec, if it needs it. They will probably even send you a free shipping UPS pickup box. But have someone else shoot it first. The P3AT will stovepipe with limp-wristing. I always warn new users about that. Oops just re-read your post. I see you traded it. Sorry.

Welcome to TGO. I think we know each other from HK94.

I had a Winchester 94 in 30-30 for a while. Did some trading with a friend who has a son and wanted it for him so it now is residing with a young man who enjoys it. I'm of the age and view that lever guns should only come in 30-30.

Hearing loss is just part of the package if you do combat stuff. I know my hearing is just sufficient that I don't have to have hearing aids, but I might not catch everything you are saying unless I'm paying close attention.

I'd retire from Memphis too, if I lived there. Just kidding! Welcome to the TGO forums.

I've never shot one, but played with one yesterday. I'm working on a test firing. The trigger seems very good. It has all the requisites for a good concealed carry handgun. Safe, sufficient capacity, enough "stopping power" (IMHO), flat for good IWB carry, good sights. The reasonable price is a plus. About the only thing missing is double-strike capability. If I didn't have my P7M8, I'd probably buy one. May do so anyway.

Why would you want to carry in a CHURCH?

I love that. -
Now, let's not go around insulting dogs.

Remind me to tell you sometime what happens if you fill the bullet tip void of a SS192 "Hollow Point" with polymer.

Slushee Question for August: Manual Safety or No?
Marswolf replied to dcloudy777's topic in Handguns
That's because they know they should be embarrassed for buying one. [looking for bunker] BTW, I got to take another look today at a Kel-Tec PF-9. I still haven't shot one, but the trigger feels really good. If I didn't already have the P7M8, I'd have to very seriously consider one. And it's about a thousand bucks less expensive! http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/pf9.html This topic should have been done as a poll. So far I think only Tower likes manual safeties. But the deal about learning your guns instead of just buying more collectibles is dead on. My gun collection is actually shrinking. But I'm getting better with the ones I still have. Some day I'll sit down and list the guns I used to own....
