  1. That's very good advice. I always heard it as, "It is better to remain silent and have men think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." I carried a G23 for a while probably because that's what most of the cops I know carry. Then I did a full assessment of the weapon and went to the USP 40. I've always said that the Glock is a suitable duty weapon for LE. SIGs are also good duty weapons. They have a lot more in common with a USP than a Glock though. I've had them but with experience, prefer the H&Ks.
  2. Nope. 39-17-1305. Possession of firearm where alcoholic beverages are served. - (a) It is an offense for a person to possess a firearm within the confines of a building open to the public where liquor, wine or other alcoholic beverages, as defined in § 57-3-101(a)(1)(A), or beer, as defined in § 57-6-102(1), are served for on premises consumption. ( A violation of this section is a Class A misdemeanor. © The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to a person who is: (1) In the actual discharge of official duties as a law enforcement officer, or is employed in the army, air force, navy, coast guard or marine service of the United States or any member of the Tennessee national guard in the line of duty and pursuant to military regulations, or is in the actual discharge of duties as a correctional officer employed by a penal institution; or (2) On the person's own premises or premises under the person's control or who is the employee or agent of the owner of the premises with responsibility for protecting persons or property. [Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 1; 1990, ch. 1029, § 4; 2001, ch. 345, § 1.] If you are off duty, you can't pack. Or maybe I missed a grin?
  3. An Austrian named Sven? I just love Austrian meatballs.
  4. I think prostate cancer might have been part of the reason for Rudy quitting the Senate race, but I'm not sure moral fiber means much any more anyway. I've never seen abortion as a Democrat / Republican issue. To me it's more a matter of whether the government should be involved in taking a position at all on what is basically a religious issue. I don't favor abortions. I just favor the government staying out of people's private lives. It has always seemed that the Dems should be in favor of the government telling you whether you can or can't have one and the Republicans should be for individualism. But that's not how it is. As far as anyone being a RINO, I don't think there are any Republicans left. Weren't they supposed to be the party of small government and opposition to government regulation?
  5. Lots of idiotic laws like that. When I was on the library board, I made sure citizens could carry in the libraries in our county. But employees come under county employment rules and are forbidden to carry on the job. We had one situation where someone repeatedly intimidated one of our branch managers and she couldn't protect herself without risking her job. Totally stupid.
  6. Except for being anti-gun, Rudy doesn't look too bad to me. But I'm not a typical Republican. I'm not only for abortion, but retroactive abortion. Lots of people breathing my air who shouldn't be doing so.
  7. Yes they are, but they only cost about $200 more.
  8. All I can say, Fred, is that it wasn't me who deleted your posts. Apparently someone else found them to be less than constructive. Actually I have cut down on the Glock talk lately. I can only talk about the pluses and minuses of handguns. People can either listen and understand or not. But I must confess that I can't resist jabbing people with a stick who think that whatever they have is perfect and everyone else's stuff is crap. But I don't mind getting jabbed back. I do the same thing with people whose religious view is the only correct one and want legislation to codify it. If you like a poorly designed handgun that is more likely to injure your hand, leg or butt than my choice, go for it. I have a source for Lorcins. And Steelharp, you are unfortunately correct. USPs DA sucks. When you're right, you're right. But their SA is really nice. Hardly a Glock with a hammer though. You do have the option of either DA or SA; and you can de-cock and re-cock it; and double-strike; and use overloaded ammunition; and.... Thank you for mentioning it.
  9. Actually, our numbers look pretty good here. We are a specialized forum. We do guns and limit ourselves to one state. That's not a recipe for huge membership. But that focus is one reason I came here. I have other boards I read for wider issues. But I really don't care as much about the requirements for a carry permit in Iowa as I do legislative matters here in Tennessee. And I do try to be objective. As I've said before, I'm as critical of the handguns I like as the ones I don't like. I don't think you will find many instances of me ranting on about how H&Ks are next to the second coming in wonderfulness - even if they are.
  10. Sorry to hear you can't get get coverage, Rabbi. I know of one shop in my area who did have insurance though and had a claim that was paid a few years ago. If you like, I'll dig out their phone number for you and you can call them.
  11. BTW, it turned out to be a good race last night. But I think they had as many wrecks in the pits as on the track....
  12. Rudy may be the best we can do. Bush isn't exactly Mr. Gun Supporter and he had the support of the core Republicans. What I expect to happen is for Hillary to run against Rudy and the "conservatives" to be so pissed off that they stay home and just don't vote. Not voting is just a vote for Hillary. You better believe that every liberal wacko and welfare recipient will try to get to the polls.
  13. Why can't UT have a coach who can talk and who isn't a pompous ass? Think I saw that UT actually won one yesterday didn't I?
  14. Hey Fred. I've never deleted anyone's posts here. You need to get your head out of your ass.
  15. Well, I think it's useful for us to understand the nutjobs of the world. You have a large nation with leadership that denies the Holocaust and thinks Jews did and do deserve to be slaughtered because, according to them, they are a pain in the ass. Of course they feel the same way about Christians and anyone who disagrees with their religious views.
  16. Uh, no offense, but I don't think Michael Crichton is a very good source for scientific information. And man-made global warming has not been proven wrong. To the contrary, the vast majority of scientists working in the field think it is true. I don't know yet. I'm just keeping an open mind. Now if you want to say that Al Gore is a jerk, I'll wholeheartedly agree with you.
  17. You know, Al Gore's interest in the possibility of man-made global warming goes back to at least 1969. when he took a class with Professor Roger Revelle, one of the first scientists to measure carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. He was elected a US Representative in 1976 and co-sponsored hearings on toxic waste and global warming. This isn't something the just developed an interest in after he lost the presidential election. Some of his claims in the movie are overblown and illogical, but we do have global warming. The question is what is causing it and what to do about it. Rush Limbaugh to the contrary, science is a matter of consensus and that consensus is growing daily that this warming trend may not be a natural cycle. I'm not prepared at this point to draw a firm conclusion. I'll just keep examining the evidence.
  18. Everyone play nice.... But I agree that this sounds like an insurance claim thing to me.
  19. I liked watching the sun come up from Mt. LeConte on my first backpacking trip. Probably have a photo of it. I borrowed my fathers old Kodak Flash Bantam that shot 828 film. Sort of like super-slide size. Some of those slides got damaged some time ago. I'll have to dig them out if they survived and digitize them.
  20. Rules? We got rules? If I can come, I'll bring the 700 VS to win the sniper contest. We don't have to do anything like poop in a plastic bag - do we?
  21. FOOD FIGHT!!!!! Be sure to turn on ABC tonight for the NASCAR race Pre-race starts at 7 EDT (that's 6 pm for those of you in the civilized part of Tennessee).
  22. Fred ended up way down the list for me. I was surprised. Then again I was surprised about how many things we disagree on. I may have to re-think my support for Fred. And the winner is...... Giuliani!!!!! I was actually surprised on how many things he and I agree on. Now, if I could just believe he really has turned into a pro-gun candidate....
  23. I never know until the last second where I'll be. Don't worry about a prize for me. I'll just steal someone else's. Silhouette targets at 15 feet and anything in the black counts?
  24. I imagine the Buckmark will make its way into the trunk. I'm a world champion rock mover with the thing. I'm sure I must have shot at a target with it at some time.
  25. You might be interested in taking this little quiz that matches you to the candidate of your dreams. http://www.wqad.com/Global/link.asp?L=259460 Of more interest to me was the page you get to click on following the results that gives candidate positions. There is no gun issue question here but other issues are pretty well covered. I was surprised at the outcome but then again I learned a lot about the candidates positions.
