Mark, I hear you have some magazines for them....
-
Yep, neat stuff. I considered buying some, but couldn't figure out what I'd do with it. Just another toy.

Look around and join in. Glad you are here.

Welcome to the TGO forums. Right now GlocKing has religion again and only recommend Glocks. I have seen the time when he was considering getting rid of all his Glocks (which would have been a good move IMHO). If this is a carry gun, you really need to get something that you like. Take your time and look around. The Tennessee carry permit course is so easy that you can easily pass the qualification part with a borrowed gun and no practice. Don't sweat that. Do go ahead get your permit. Then take your time and you'll find a good carry gun in whatever price range you set.

I'll go along with the throng and suggest you keep the 1911. I'd also keep the 92FS. In fact I'd get rid of the 1911 before the 92. Having owned at least four brands of striker fired handguns (my memory comes and goes ), I always go back to handguns with hammers as my keepers. There are just too many advantages in the hammer design. Or maybe there are disadvantages in the striker design. Whatever. Nothing exactly wrong with most striker-fired guns except that they are striker-fired guns. I can recommend them unless they are Lorcin, Raven, Bryco, Jennings, Jimenez or Glock. Actually, I'm still looking at M&Ps, although I'm not entirely sure why I'm doing that. I was very happy with my XD-9 except for it being striker fired. It was accurate, shot naturally, had excellent ergonomics, and was entirely reliable. It and the Five-seveN are the only striker fired weapons I might have kept. But I didn't keep either.

Yeah, you're cuter than that - in a manly sort of way, of course.

Hey, he's the one who posted the shirtless Doogie picture.

Maybe you could this for an avatar.

I don't know...for some reason that reminds me of this.

Maybe it's loaded with these Ulyanovsk Machine Tool Plant rounds I have on my desk. If the gun can't do a double strike, it would be safe enough.
-
I haven't shot a PS90, but have the P90. It's a lot of fun - especially if you are using someone else's ammunition. I had a Five-seveN for a while too.

I can't tell. Is that a Glock? If, it must be safe.

Hooray! I got my first handgun, now where can I shoot it?

There are minimum requirements for the class, but some instructors add some extra training as part of it. That normally is reflected in the price. Bare bones classes can run as little as $50. Phantom6, here on the board has a school in OR. Since this is your first handgun, you might consider his class. See http://firearmsclasses.com/basic_pistol.htm for details. I've heard good things about it from other students. He's also a good guy. We've met over barbecue when he came up to Kingsport for a shoot. My wife likes him too and we are both pretty good judges of character both innately and from formal training. -

Good point Jim. The carry class is so basic that anyone can pass it. -

Hi David. Most of the folks who can give you information about your area are probably out at a shoot in Oak Ridge right now. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=23 is the area for these shoots. If you are at OR, you probably have tome to go there now. Someone should be able to help you when they get back. Just go over and post something in the E TN August get together topic. -
It's probably good to have one stance that you automatically go into whenever you pull your handgun. Last thing you need is another matter to decide on under pressure. If you get your handgun trained on the target and another stance would be preferable, you can change at that point. IMHO, the fewer things you have to think about the better if you are, or are about to be, under fire. You really don't need to be thinking about having to rack a slide, cock a hammer, remove a thumb safety, or figure out your stance at that time.

OK folks, I did some checking today. Wal-Mart does not have a corporate policy about when individual stores can sell ammunition. Stores in our area can and do sell round the clock. But there is a limit on when stores can sell guns. I understand that stores have been told not to sell after 10 PM. Speculating, I suspect that is because of TICS hours which are 8-10 Central time (9-11 Eastern). My guess is that W-M sent out a notice to their stores saying that 10 PM was the cut off rather than try to explain to some of their employees that Tennessee in in two time zones. Just a guess. So, I suspect the dumb-s.hit in OR at the store heard that they couldn't sell guns after 10 and expanded that to ammunition.

Why do I have this mental image of someone shouting, "Workers of the world unite!" Unions were useful, at one time, to address safety concerns. Today union workers are often exploited by the union bosses more than the companies. Today, unions are frequently the factor that drives jobs overseas. Companies in a global economy simply can not pay more than what employees labor is worth. Anyone see the story that some Chrysler branded cars will be made in China? ********** Back on topic, I wonder what time of day Wal-Mart starts selling ammo? I'll bet their policy stems from some event where someone bought some ammo at midnight and offed someone shortly after.
-
I was thinking the same thing about the unions, Rabbi. Good reason to buy from them. And I was also thinking that Wal-Mart isn't responsible for all the cheap crap causing the trade deficit with China. The people buying the cheap Chinese crap are responsible for it. Wally-World just gives the customer what they want. You want the Elmo doll made in China for $10 or the one made in Michigan with union labor for $50? Lead paint is a no-cost feature.

That's how I see it. I'll patronize those who support my cause.

Maybe too late if he doesn't do it soon.

Actually, there are a bunch of these sites. Most are bipartisan. http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/index.asp has information going back to 1990 and is easy to use. The data comes from the Federal Election Commission and data files can be downloaded there.

But most people can't figure out how to use it.
