  1. Congrats, there's just something about the .357 I really like. Having 7 of them ready to go is a nice touch.
  2. Yeah, I want one bad but $650? Really? For a .22? I mean I'm sure it's nice, and it does take alot of metal to build that frame, but come on. IMHO that's just crazy, I would love to see a blued finish for around<$400. Oh well, I'm just jealous cause I won't be getting one.
  3. Very true. It would be nice to have a higher quality rifle able to switch between .22 and .17hmr as aposed to a couple rimfires of varying quality. As stated above it is doubtful they are going to start ruining these things and to tell the truth I have no idea why I like the thought of a screwed in barrel better than a pinned one. Doubt I will notice one way or the next except for being able to swap calibers. Either way I'd like to hold off on any thing Ca legal until I have some evil black hi-cap something or another and probably a ccw piece as well. We all know how gun budget plans go though... At this point I'm running out of time for a Ca purchase anyway. Takes 10 days so I'd have to do it this or early next week.
  4. Very cool. A pump .22 is something I've wanted for a long time. Enjoy it.
  5. This might be kind of lane if your hoping to surprise him, but how about taking him out to look at a few styles, maybe give your own opinions and advise on what works best for what and let him pick. There are a number of shooting sports or activitys where specific equipment could either be a sound investment or money better spent. Also nothing wrong with iron sights till he makes up his mind. Good on you for taking some initiative and getting your kid out there having fun learning safely.
  6. FWIW, I'm going to hold off. Just too many cool possibiltys opening up with the move. Thanks for the input guys always good to get some feedback from others.
  7. +1. I haven't been to either of the others mentioned but Charlie seems like a great guy and the range is very relaxed. I believe yearly membership is $60 as of this or last year. Clays out on a berm or paper targets only. I asked Charlie about bringing some tannerite, he just laughed and politely declined.
  8. That pretty much sums up all I've heard as well. And I had just talked myself out of it too...lol. Just have to see I guess, maybe I'll go take another look at it in the morning.
  9. Thanks for the feedback guys. I think what is making the decision difficult is that these two are at complete ends of the shooting spectrum. I have a romainian m69 as well as an sks amongst others so I don't need either, but do kinda want both. What does anyone think about the price? $375 seems good for out here but I know there's a bit of a difference depending on location... Also it does have that 28" barrel...
  10. Well my local gun store has a good price (I think) on NOS cz-452 that I have been eyeing for a few months. I'm really thinking about jumping on it since they asking about $375 for it which seems fair and I have read about cz making some changes on the new 455 that I don't care for. My dilemma is I am getting ready to move from Ca. to Tn. And while the move budget is not the issue, I really want to get/convert a saiga when I arrive so I've been kinda saving for that. I could always get both by putting back my conversion plans a bit but I'm also not trying to spend too much on guns and such this year. What would you guys do?
  11. Sorry I can't be of much help but I've been looking at the .17 as well. How did it work out for you on the hunt? It seems like a cool cartridge on paper.
  12. I have one that I'm very fond of. It can out shoot me and reminds me of the rifles I learned to shoot in C.A.P. The mag got misplaced over the years so it's just a single shot these days but still great. It's kind of funny you started this thread, I had loaned mine out to a friend a few years ago and just got it back last weekend. Took it out today and had more fun than I probably should have. I still want a cz452 but this keeps the urge down to a dull roar. P.S if you are planning on putting a scope on good luck, it seems alot of these have shallow or poorly angled grooves for mounting. IIRC a BSA air gun scope fit mine ok but I might have just ham fisted it on.
  13. To be perfectly fair not being able to have loaded magazines while carrying makes perfect sence if the goal is to get people not to carry, which seems to be the case here. Interestingly enough I hear NOTHING at my local shop about our recently lost right to OC loaded or not. What everyone wants to talk about are AR looking rifles that with the mag disconnect tool and ten rounders are half as "tactical" as your average lever action. Ugh. To help answer, pistol grips are fine these days and yes, ten rounds is the max unless preban. Basically you have to have owned them since sometime I believe in the early ninetys. A friends dad has lots of cool preban stuff out here but until recently it hasn't been worth the headaches to take them out. Interestingly I believe I read once on Ca DOJ site that you could bring hi cap mags in while visiting so long as they were disassembled. It might be worth looking into. The Ca approved handgun list is for dealers, and applys to them definatly for new sales and I believe used as well. Having said that, a resident may sell his/her oh say SR1911 (legally acquired while living in another state) through a ptp private sale. The caveat here being any firearm transfer in Ca must be done through an FFL.
  14. Thanks for the welcome. I have been to a few stores near my parents house, Franklin gun shop and another I can't think if the name of. I was lucky enough to find Charles Haffner Memorial Range through TGO last time I was out there and can't wait to join up.
  15. Hello Red, I'm new to the forum as well and also relocating from the great PRCa. I've lived in Tennessee before and have visited often, it really is a great place to be if you won't miss the noise, smog, overpopulation or other many charms of home. The transition can be strange but is pretty all around enjoyable.
  16. I kind of fall in the middle on this issue. on one hand, you should always check the chamber/barrel when handling any firearm or really anything capable of shooting any projectile actually. Having said that, there does seem to be a group of people out there unable to tell the difference between looking at a video and actually being in the presence or possession of something. Safety check and move on, the world doesn't need to double check you after the fact just so we can see a video of you telling us how much you love or hate whatever it is your showing off. Of course maintenance walkthroughs and the like should make an emphasis on this crucial step, but for most reviews short and sweet suits me best.
  17. Well I've been reading up a little on these boards as I get ready to move from California to Nashville, and I have to say I think this is a great looking forum. There seem to be some very good, knowledgable people on board and I look forward to talking with you. I enjoy shooting pretty much anything I can get my mitts on, and can't wait to get some "cool stuff" when I get out there, I'm thinking saiga with a slide fire stock would make me pretty happy for a while. At least until I spot a lever gun I want, or a bolt action, you know I can always use another revolver...Hmmm. I think you get it. I've been around guns as far back as i can rember, with a LE family and an avid outdoorsman for a grandfather they were just a part of life. Sadly to even go shooting within about an hours drive of where I live in Ca limits me to desert shooting (PITA) or high fees and bad attitudes/service from the local ranges.(bigger PITA) luckily I've already found a close friendly facility near where I'll be staying in Tn. So any way, great place again, see ya later
