I can no longer use Tap a Talk to access the forum. Am I missing an add-on? Any help greatly appreciated.

Targus makes reasonably priced and tough bags.

This might do it for me...if I can lift the rifle.

Welcome and enjoy the site.

Still waiting for the opportunity to go zero the irons.

Fist,
Well argued...I don't know enough to dispute you. Definitely will consider your suggestions. Thanks

Dolomite-
I used mildots while a sniper in the 82nd..I never thought of using one on an AR. They cost a buttload then.
I believe I want a shorter scout-type scope - maybe cantilevered or easy remove I started researching online but hard to make decisions without seeing and holding.
As for a red dot I believe small and cheap would prove good enough for this application.

Champion...quick completion and fair pricing. Tell them David Dyer recommended.

I like the idea of having both capabilities at the same time. A mil-ldot scope with a side mount red-dot seems right for me. Thanks everyone.

I am at a loss. What are the specific advantages/disadvatages of scope style vs reflex sights? Which would prove better for a general purpose rifle (target, SD, shtf)?

Well done article, glad to read it.

I've wanted a 'combat rifle' for sometime. I was going to go with an M14-style but the price and the weight gave me issues. The changes in the AR/M16 since I was in service piqued my curiosity but I never studied them at all until Dolomite made a sound argument to me. Now I'm looking at red dots and all that other stuff. Next, I'll start reloading. Must be a curse.

Glad to see you got one.
You need to get a membership for Norris, if you don't already. It is one of the best ranges in the area. Self policing and a lot of nice people out there.
Dolomite
I have been there. Is it still $25 a year and they give you a key for the gate?

+1 to all the excellent comments. If I reloaded I'd have one.

I have now joined the club. Special thanks to Dolomite for his informative posts (and the persuasive argument he made when I purchased a S&W .38 Bodyguard from him in December).
I finally decided to purchase an AR about a month ago and began researching on TGO. After reading and watching everything I could find on the net I decided on the S&W M&P 15 Sport. Finding one has proven difficult, as everyone on TGO has noted.
Today, my wife and I were out and about and I decided to stop at Gander Mtn. and see what kind of special order they might do for me.
I waited 5 minutes for someone to open up and asked the fellow if they carried the Sport and how I could order one. His reply was "I believe we have one in back that has been on hold for 3-4 weeks. If it is still there I'll bring it out and you can look at it." I answered with, "If it's there I'll buy it." 15-20 minutes later I walked out with the AR and 420 rounds of 5.56.
OTD right at $1000
Thanks to this forum and all the great posts.

Do you find this on all ARs? I am finally going to buy one and wonder if this is something I wiil need?
-
Where can we find these in Knoxville area?
-
Go with the new if the money is right.
-
Pay attention to instruction and should ace everything.

Welcome, very friendly folks on here.

I may buy one for that reason alone.
