  1. I just picked up some more stuff from David today via Luke.  Sounds like he is a pretty busy dude lately.  Thanks again David, I hope you're raking it in and your truck issues get straightened out soon!
  2. I picked up a Imbel receiver FAL recently via a trade and the front sight is cocked to the right (almost one o clock position  .  I've done some reading and internet searching to see what I can do to fix it up.  The extractor and barrel seem to line up just fine and I have fired it with no issues.  So my psuedo research leads me to the gas block and or the sight itself.  Does anyone have input on this before I start tearing it down?  Any special tools needed?  Also it is an inch receiver, but my mags are metric.  They work fine but are a little loose.  I have seen where others have modified the mags with a metal tab that is welded or brazed on.  Does anyone know where to get these, or is any interested in a mag swap?   Thanks!!
  3. I found it very hot too.  I worked up to 3100 fps and landed at 24.6 gr off the batch of 842 I got from David.  Going both up and down in .2gr increments the group also opened up.  I am using Hornady 55gr FMJ's however.  Ive also used the 842 in my 22-250 with great results, and I like that the brass doesnt seem near as hot after firing.
  4. I just bought a bunch of reloading stuff, but I am looking for a SUB2K before the laws change....
  5. Let's hope...I'll be there to scoop it up.  But I honestly dont see prices dropping.  Isnt it alot like gas?  Back in the early 90's I could get a Walmart box of 22 for like 7-8 bucks.  After the first "scare and hoard" about four years ago the price went up to about 16-17, then swiftly to over 20.  Now most all manufacturers make some bulk form of 22 and most all were going for about 22 bucks.  All told, that's triple the price.  It was enough for me to stop buying the Federal crap, and start shooting Wolf MT, ME, and CCI Target.  Yeah its about twice the price, but now I take my time and can hold much prettier groups.     Outside of ammo talk, look at something like mags.  With a pending AWB these will all go way up.  Remember when a 10/22 25 rounder was 60 bucks?!?!?!!?  Recently I bought a few 30 rd Pmags for 12 a piece.....care to place a bet on where they land pricewise around Oct of next year?   That said, I do agree.  Hoarding/Panic screws the supply demand balance up and draws way too much attention to the sport in general.  Bottom line, I think the times they are a changin'.
  6. Obama was just on the news and has established yet another task force.    http://www.businessinsider.com/obama-gun-control-task-force-2012-12   Here we go with the price increases and low capacity mags.
  7. He sure will, I had Pm'd him about that.  He's a great guy and I plan on buying more from him soon.  That is once I load up one "hella" batch from the stuff I have ;)
  8. Compared to MidwayUSA they do fairly well.  I dont like the sales tax, but I do like skipping the shipping costs on powder and primers.  Like I said if he had everything I needed and shot, he'd probably have all my business.  And while I will gladly advocate for and promote David, his prices on bullets are not the best.  Outpost "had" New Hornady 223 55 fmj for 50.99 per 500.  David's were pulls, and cost a little more the last time I saw him.  On powder and primers he smashes everyones prices.
  9. I buy from David as well.  I didnt bother going to the last show in the Boro because all I needed that he has is some surp powder and primers.  By the time I pay for my family to get in etc I was only gonna save like ten bucks so I decided to skip it and the crowd.  David does have killer prices, I wish he had some bulk pistol powders tho :)
  10. I shop all around, but I go to Outpost alot.  It was busier last night than I have ever seen it.  Dudes walking out with 2-4 AR's, yellow forms being filled out everywhere, ammo pallets disintegrating, and lots of mags being carried around.  Obviously the focus is on the AR/AK type platforms, and that was evident in the reloading section too.  I bought what they told me was the last batch of bulk Hornady 223 55gr fmj.  I asked for a 8 pounder of H4895..."nope out of stock and can't get any from any of our suppliers".
  11. I went through my current pile of stuff and made a list of all I thought I would like to have on hand in the event the prices drastically rise.  Then I went online and started shopping around....um.... I had no idea how much was "out of stock"!  All the sudden I get the feeling, for like the third time in my life, that ammo is gonna go way up again and not come back down.....yet again.  Armed with my "wish list" and a shiny new debit card I went to Outpost, when I left I had dropped a little over $1300.  Just two months ago I loaded up 1000 45 acp and the bullets cost 62 / 500, they have already gone up about 15 per 500.  I know supply and demand will wreak havoc for a while, I just hope it doesn't drive our hobby into "rich man" territory.
  12. Im going, but only if our local reloading supplier guy will be there.
  13. I shoot 44 mag out of a Anaconda (6")  I loaded a bunch of different charges with H110 and settled on 22grains.  I did  learn that crimping is very important with 44 for a clean burn.  I tested some light/no crimp loads and there was crap flying everywhere.  H110 is pretty flashy, so if you don't like fireballs then avoid it.    I forgot to add this is with a 240gr Hornady XTP.  Love em' (out of my muzzle loader too)
  14. Everything I own, except 22lr.  Although depending on prices I go on and off with 9mm.  Seems like loading 1000 was only saving me like 50 bucks if I recall right.
  15. Hey man, I am in Murfreesboro.  I do 223/556 on a Single stage RCBS and with my Dillon 550.  Let me know what I could help with...its not a Lyman but it sure cranks them out. :)
  16. Im going, early! Hoping to get some reloading stuff and find a Sub2k
  17. OK one more point considering caliber then...... the 38/357 has more self defense ooomph. Practice with cheap 38 special wadcutters, and carry with factory 357.
  18. Never mind I see "Form 1" now. Sounds like yours is likely a bit more robust than my YHM. I guess I'll make some up and see how they shoot before I sacrifice another 6 month wait.
  19. A Savage 12FVSS 26". Yeah I saw that post on the other powder too. Hopefully he will be at the Expo center in the Boro this weekend and I can check it out. I double checked my range data for the load and here's what i jotted down: 168gr SMK Measured chamber: 2.801" Reload length: 2.797 CCI 200 Primer WC846 New Winchester Case at 2.005" 42.5gr 2629 2715 2704 2682 2726 43.5 2760 2766 2766 2767 2772 44.5gr 2801 2818 2795 2795 2807
  20. So no worries about strikes or anything? What kind of can do you use? Starting Loads Maximum Loads Bullet Weight (Gr.) Manufacturer Powder Bullet Diam. C.O.L. Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure 55 GR. HDY FMJ IMR Trail Boss .224" 2.200" 4.0 1074
  21. Thanks, that's what I have heard. Seems like the extra 100 yards inst worth the drive. I usually shoot at Manchester, live in the Boro. I hear the AFB in Tullahoma goes to 1000 but is only open to the public during competition....which leaves no place to practice. Ugh.....looks like I'm still shopping for land.
  22. I picked up YHM Mite a while back, and while it's fun and fairly quiet, it's not fun to dissemble and clean. I have a 22lr conversion I use in my Colt LE6920 and with the suppressor it runs 22 ammo smooth and is pretty quiet. While stocking up on some other reloading supplies I decided to grab a pound of Trail Boss for some experiments. I have some TB load data for 223, but I am wondering....... If I slow this lil 55 grain bullet down below 1100 fps am I not basically left with a really expensive SSS equivalent. I mean the sss is 60 gr, and prefers a 1:9 twist. How different would a 55gr be with a 1:7"? Which then leads me to wonder if I could use my 22lr can on it? The obvious reason I would think this wouldn't work gets down to the volume of gas behind the light AR load vs the 22lr load. But, in all my searching I haven't found a clear answer. What are your thoughts?
  23. One choice? Regardless of brand, caliber, etc I would pick a revolver everytime. Less moving parts, reliable, simple. I little more of a pain to conceal due to the width and hammer, but if its your carry you want it to work when you need it.
  24. Great work! Funny..... I just commented on a post regarding "surplus varget" . Sounds like this may be close??
