  1. On three different computers, Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge. Would not allow connection to TGO, stated a virus that would compromise personal data
  2. Like the frig, we used the toilets for the first 24 hours...then shifted to our portajohn...lesson learned, we need a bigger stock of liner bags. First day we used the bbq grill for cooking and shifted to a rocket stove...we now have a set of cast iron to use with the rocket stove. We number one thing that appeared to help our attitude was lighting. The second thing was being creative with the food. Set aside some prep reading material and several board and card games. My big purchase resulting from the experiment was a robust solar panel for recharging batteries. My biggest comfort purchase was a solar hot water bag (hang it in the sun light even on a cold day and you will have warm water to wash). These bags can be found on boating supplies web sites. Last lesson, inventory your survival gear with location...we spent a lot of time and batteries looking for minor items that were stashed in random locations. The best part is that I now feel that my family has been exposed to the process and will be able to better cope with a number of scenarios. Thanks for asking about our experiment.
  3. If you really want to try a "low impact" test of your prep...trip the main breaker to your house, secure the water supply, unplug the phone line and put your car keys away...do this from Friday just before supper until the following Monday at day break. Do this once when it is really cold and once when it is really hot. Monitor how many batteries you use as well as how much water is consumed. As you (and your family) go through each day make a list of things you needed, things you know that you have but can find, things that you wished that you had...we went through this exercise and the results were very interesting. We cheated and left the refrigerator running so no food would spoil...but the rule was, no food or drink from the refrig after the first 24 hours. "Boring" might be the operative word for this test, so much so that I made 5 bird houses by hand the first time we tried this activity. The second time, I had stocked up on lamp oil and several good books to read. The wife said that I should have gone out back and shot several squirrels for supper...just to add realism to the test. I don't care for squirrel. By the way, we (the entire family) were a whole lot better equipped to handle the test the second time. Even a simple test of your prep will go a lot further than talking about it or making a list. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
  4. I'll add my 2 cents, Merry Christmas to all.
  5. The Florida law is vague...it is left up to a law officer to determine what is "brief"...why should a legal carry be determined in this manner since it is unlikely that an officer of the law is carrying around a Webster's Dictionary in order to clearly understand the word.   When my daughter was on a Trap Shooting team and had practice after school she was given a copy of the Tennessee Code to keep in her shooting bag. That code allowed her gun to be out of sight in her vehicle on school grounds. Her team coach, an ex-police officer, provided her with a copy of the Code because he said that most police officers were not aware of the law. Laws should be clear and those that enforce the laws should be provided with better training and better resources in support of their assignments. Florida hasn't.
  6. The current popular trend is using an electronic keypad rather than a tumbler lock on gun safes...If a major solar flare or EMP event occurred is it possible that half the gun safes in America would be inaccessible? Any thoughts?
  7. Having recently experienced several days of power outage I found it to be an eye opening experience. There were a lot of little things that would have made the situation more tolerable. It might be a good test run to trip the main breaker and go without electricity for several days as a test. I think you will find that there things you need to make it through a weekend with no electricity...unless, of course, you are already off the grid.
  8. I have a fellow that would like to sell me a box of FNH191 5.7 ammo. The box is sealed and states that this ammo is armor piercing, tracer, restricted for law enforcement.   I have cast about the Internet to see if this ammo is legal to own and there is nothing out there except that the "restrictions" are self-imposed by FN. Anyone out there with an opinion regarding this ammo? Thanks in advance for any reply.
  9. I like silver in dimes and quarters (pre1965) when they were real. I also like blocks of .22 for trade. I have laid up more sugar and salt than I could ever use. I agree that even the smallest gold coin will be a little too pricey for the average trade.
  10. I hate to through water on your fire, DSG ARMS is stating that they are "Out of Stock"...and have been for some time. Maybe I just didn't hit them on a day when they had a few. My post was simply stating that I finally found a supplier that had what they advertised...at a reasonable price. I have seen these magazines priced at more than twice the MSRP.   By the way, I like Hendersonville, my Mom and Dad lived on Indian Lake Road for many years. Happy New Year.
  11. I waited for over 6 months to buy Magpul 20 LR magazines from someone who was not charging twice the MSRP. Just received my magazines, priced at $19.95, from Bayou Tactical. Thanks guys for being honest and reasonable...I will be back.   Over the past months I have left messages with at least 7 suppliers, asking to be informed when these magazines were back in stock...not one has yet to reply.   BayouTactical.com
  12. Must be good to be away from Ft. Hood where you can't carry a gun to protect yourself. Welcome to Tennessee. Years ago we sent a few folks to Texas to help them out...glad to see that Texas is sending some back.
  13. I said yes to a TGO lower buy about six months ago and never received another message. My reply is yes so put me on your mailing list if this takes off.
  14. My dad and I fished Center Hill Lake for many years...good memories. Welcome to TGO.
  15. I trapped and and spray painted day-glow orange on a squirrel rump...was back in 4 hours from about 2.5 crow miles...now I take them 5+ miles...I haven't had any painted squirrels return. I do like the skunk disposal method...I have always feared catching a skunk, rather the skunk catching me with a good spray. I do have a nearby pond.
  16. Change the sights on the FN and its the winner hands down...are you shooting reloads in the Kel-Tec? I would send the Kel-Tec to someone I don't like.
  17. It is reported that they caught him. It would be justice to let the woman have at him with a baseball bat.
  18. I will add to what others have said, "God Bless and Thank Him for His Service"
  19. This is a funny thread...you all forgot about the muzzle loader with a ramrod.
  20. Welcome to TGO.  Hendersonville is a nice town...my Mom and Dad lived on Indian Lake Road for many years. Thank you for your service... If I were you I would get a handgun carry permit, then you will be safe to carry.    Rob in Gatlinburg
  21. Welcome to the Great State of Tennessee and to TGO!
  22. I live in the Knoxville area and would like to buy enough 6.8 to sight in my AR and punch a few holes in paper. Anyone know of a local or on-line source...everywhere I look it is out of stock.   Your replies will be appreciated.   Rob
  23. The little fat kid in North Korea has threaten to kill people, including Americans, and nothing was done...oh, I forgot Kim has a nuc and James is an unprotected American citizen with a hand gun! So James must be more dangerous than Kim Jung Un...figure that logic?

  25. Both Ds and Rs are using the gun issue to hid the real problem...a weak economy! Both parties hid behind emotional issues and do little to correct big issues. The American people need to tell the government to "Lead, Follow or Get Out of the Way". I vote for Get Out of the Way.
