  1. Try the Kershaw Leek if you like spring-assisted knives. It replaced my blackout after I droped it and broke the tip. The Leek has I nice action to it. You can usually pick a leek up for less that $50, which gives you $250 for other stuff. Also, it's made in America!
  2. Went with a Leupold VX-2 4x12 40mm adj obj. Nice scope
  3.   Thought about buying a bear target if I ever get a longbow...one can always dream...
  4.   To me, seems equivalent to banning "assault rifles". The main difference is design and some functionality, but the purpose is the same, yet because of these design differences, I guess they(restricted knives) just appear scarier to those passing the laws. Or at least that it how it seems to me. But, one man's opinion carries nothing; I reckon.
  5.   I remember being told this myself, or rather "A 30 round magazine means 28 rounds." Close at least. Never gave it much thought.
  6. They look promising. I saw at least one with 4" eye relief. I'll look into some, but where they are made in several different countries, it will be iffy for me. *Ruger American Rifle; 30-06 springfield *Most range, but I wouln't mind hunting as a possibility. *Don't know how long range. Possible 300-1000 meters depending on how far out the rifle will reach... *Not sure on Magnification either. I'd like variable. Maybe 3-9x or 4-12?!? *Mil Dot is the reticule I've been looking at.
  7. This is, for lack of better wording, a sequel to a thread I started earlier this week: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/60641-bolt-action-30-06-recommendations/   I'm still really fresh to firearm stuff. Not really sure what I need to be looking for in a quality scope. Things that may or may not matter for narrowing this down:   -I'm looking for American-made as an important preference. Leupold is a brand I have been looking into for a scope at this time. :usa:   -Not sure how important eye relief is in a scope. I am near-sighted and wear corrective-lenses at the range and when driving.   -Forecasted budget of $300-750. :surrender:   I'm not really looking for someone to pick a scope out for this, but rather if anyone has really good info on what to look for, what is important, opportunity costs, etc. I know very little about scopes and am willing to learn a lot.   Looking to make this purchase sometime in April unless I can get a really lucky like I did with the rifle. :panic:
  8. It may be a month before I get the scope, but I sure do look forward to trying it out!
  9. Per request: took an hour to just to upload, something that should have taken 5 minutes! :surrender:
  10.   It'll be Leupold! Keeping it American! :usa:
  11. Went with a Ruger American 30-06...
  12. The only con I can ever see in this (besides a diminishing battery over years of use) is in the off chance the software becomes corrupted. The only way to fix that is by hooking up to a computer that has internet access and restoring it.   Of course that is worse case scenerio. Otherwise I think storing massive amounts of relevant media into such a compact device as a quick-reference is a great idea.
  13. Truth* That system is awesome. I just need to find something that is functionally similar but won't make anyone call the building and codes people, something that looks easy or can be hidden or disguised....
  14.   Collapsible, too!   For safes, I'll be on the market sometime after getting another rifle. I ran across this video doing some research:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltK-bDbADa8   Seems legit?!
  15. Interesting info coming in. I think I've hijacked my own thread twice so far...
  16.   I haven't even began to look into reloading. If it's dummy proof I may look into it. By dummy proof I mean an exacting process..
  17.   I've been getting some good ideas from hippy/yuppie pioneering magazines, namely "Mother Earth News." Not a big fan of some of the opinions, but they have some really good material and ideas for self-supporting gardens and such.   One article I recall involved using buckets fixed to gutters, and at the base there was a valve for attaching a hose to distribute the water to a garden, and possibly even a soaker hose. The valve allows you to turn the water flow on and off. Cool idea that I'm looking to modify/play with this summer.   The underground pump idea is one that has crossed my mind, I've just yet to look into what it takes to get something like that going (labor/cost/practicality).
  18. I have a Martin Jaguar Takedown. It's pretty heavy.... and the riser is a compound riser I believe. I need to get some of my arrorws refletched because a few months of poor experimentation with finding the right arrow rest left the fletching really messed up on a few.   Shooting it is fun, especially trying to nail instinctive shooting. It's all about removing yourself from the equation as much as possible.... and finding the right arrows.   I would like to get a Black Widow or White Wolf long bow by year's end...
  19. Not really sure now if I'm dead set on caliber...I've been looking at .300 and .338 win mags as well...
  20. Last year I started trying to garden completely organically, no gmo seeds, no chemicals. PITA. Learned a lot about what not to do. The pumpkins did great, but found that I started some seeds too late, and other's needed more attention that I had though. Need to get on it this year. There are a lot of things that are going to need to change...   The big thing I'm trying to do is be independent of power-driven machinery (electric/gas), that way I'm in that kind of practice. It's a lot more work, but if anything happens, tending to a garden with hand tools will be a more familiar thing to do.   This year, I'd also like to play with passive water collection and management if I have time. This way there is a ready supply of water in worse case scenarios, especially with the dryer part of summer.
  21. Kenny G.!!!!!!                         Just joking....I don't clean my guns! :yum:
  22.   Somewhat.   China is the biggest foreign owner of U.S. Debt, but Japan seriously isn't too far behind them (1.13 Trillion). At less thay 10% the national debt, it's not as bad as everybody makes it seem, and no one ever talks about little old Japan's holding....   http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/tic/Documents/mfh.txt
  23. I remember the good days of having the option of buying pmags at $15 a peice, no limit. Hard to believe that was only a few months ago... :stunned:   Still though, $20 a mag is not bad, where I can't touch them this way...
