1. Watcha think...   Fantastic shotgun 10/26/2011 I purchased this shotgun for well under $200 at my local store after comparing a few others (Remington 870, Charles Daly, etc) and settled on this one due to the modified choke and large barrel. 2. LG, I thought you were still in College. Our Club, MSSA, allows sons of members to be a member until they the graduate or sumtin like that.  You might ask yer dad to check.    Lp
3. After reading your sale posts I have to ask. Is it cheaper than what you paid for it or cheaper that what you can find on sale today which is what I'm taking away from your posts. And, this is general discussion that you posted not in any for sales forum. I'm just trying to understand what you're saying.   Please advise. Thanks Lp
4. Since you use him perhaps a friendly hint that he's is losing lots of business to the reloading community as a direct result of his refusal to treat customers correctly.  You might also mention that everyone knows at least 240 people. If one person tells his 240 people and they pass it on I'd ask him how long he plans to remain in business?  He certainly will not get my business and obviously would never get a recommendation from me.   Lp
5. No can do. Got 3 rescues now and have had rescue dogs for the past 20 years.   Lp
6. My jewel is set to 6 oz and works fine in FT/R shooting. Make sure you decide whether or not you want one with or without a safety. Mine has the safety but I can't honestly remember the last time I used it. I'm either in the gun with the bolt closed and ready to shoot or Im away with the bolt out and a chamber flag in.   Hope this helps. Lp
7. You might snope around the local Shooting Clubs. Many in middle TN host Garand and WW2 matches. I'd bet you'll find soomeone at the matchs who can hook you up with one.   Lp
8. New '71 Marlin 39M 1871-1971 Article II Commemorative. Rain or not tomorrow it's gonna follow me to the range. Lp
9. Being a man of steel I won't comment on plastics. If you want to target practice a nice Colt in 9MM will normally shoot lights out for you. Trigger is nice and the pistol will last forever. My old Colt .45 was built in 1917 and still going strong. Metalurgy being what it is today is much better than it was back then so you can expect a much longer lifespan from a new one. SIghts are very nice on the Colt.   As far as home defense, be aware that 9's will go through doors and walls and that good stuff as well as intruders and pets and can play heck when you put one through the neighbors window or front door. I wouldn't get too carried away with rail lights and other such stuff, either. Turn on a light and you just gave the other guy something to shoot at. The other good news is you know your own house. The intruder doesn't.   There are lots of quality 9mm's out there. Unless you just have to have one right now. I'd shoot as many as I could because one of those will just  fit you perfect and do everything you think it should do. Buy that one. New or used.   Browning got it right. The rest are just wanna be's.   Hope this helps. Lp
10. I'm old and for the life of me I can't remember ever having a failure to feed a round into my Colt .45 acp's. I used one as a duty gun for a few years. a long time ago in a a galaxy far, far away...wait where was I?...told ya I was old... and shot it 2-3X a week since we could. Mine have been smoothed up and all and I really don't have a need any other guns. The Gl...Geh...Glo....<gag> plastic guns are ok for some but I am a man of steel and will continue to be. :)   I wish I had $4k to spend on a gun like you rich folks. Ah well.     I will say there is a difference between spending money on dinner, a night out and a good gun. Dinner is fleeting but the gun remains in your possesion unitl you die or sell it.   Lp
11.     Gun Show this weekend in Nashville...Day 1 prices high, Day 2 prices are sometimes more negotiable.  You appear to be looking for "new" so I won't mention Pawn Shops or Gun Club For Sale bulletin boards.   If used did you see that Sig on our boards in two-tone for $800? Nice pistol. There was also an FNX pistol for sale that someone wanted $1300-1400 for. It's a beautiful pistol. A friend owns one with a mini red dot and can. Quiet, accurate and fun to shoot. WOW!   Lp
12. Springfield? They're ok. I had a mil spec one I got rid of but it shot flawlessly. I got it because I couldn't pass on it. The guy wanted my AK-47 for his brand spankin new Mil Spec in the box. he fired 5 rounds through it. They were missing from the box of ammo. I fell all over myself trying to ensure he was really happy with that AK. I threw in a tactical carry bag for it and a 70 round (I think it was since it hooked on the front muzzle break) + 4-5 30 round mags.  A Springfield will not do you wrong.   I do happen to like Colts but that doesn't mean I don't own other .45's. I'm building an RIA (colt)for fun shooting right now. The pistol is clean and tight and I've already began polishing it's guts. Right now I'm only going to replace the trigger but may make some other changes if needed. To me the smithing is what makes it all worthwhile.   Lp   Suggestion...go to a local gun range. most will let you rent a gun. Most let you shot 2-3 different ones if you tell them yer looking to buy one for the price of the rental. Shoot everything you can. The good thing about those rentals are they been heavily used and will tell you how your will get once it gets a few k rounds thru it.
13. You guys are too rich for my blood. IMHO there is nothing like a hand smithed RIA Govt with adjustable sights and tigger.   Buy the gun for $300-350. Stick another $50 in it and you're in business.  And you will have money left over for ammo.   Lp
14. IMHO....Sig has a (colt) good reputation. I haven't fired the Ruger but the (colt) Sig's trigger is very crisp. If you take a (colt) look at the bomar sight on the Sig it was built the way it should be. I am not a fan of two-tone (colt) 1911's. I wish the features on that Sig (colt) were on the Ruger.   Hope this (colt) helps.   Lp
15. I hear they are waiving felony convictions so they can hire Police Officers.  I wonder if that's true?   They are gave up the City Charter so they wouldn't have to pay the bill for it.  Did I mention they ran that into the ground? Did I mention the same ones who drove the  Memphis City schools into the toilet want to be on the County School Board. Now that they don't have to pay 60 odd million off they plan on lowering the housing values then raising taxes on the lowered values.   The Mayor is a bozo and they're more interested in renaming City Parks than worrying about how they're gonna repay debts. They'd rather feel good about themselves even though the crime rate is out of sight and no one wants to live within Memphis City Limits. Go figure.    Until the bozo's get voted out of office the poor will remain poor and the middle income people will continue to flee to other counties. Unfortunately there are more poor folks in the City that will keep voting the same bozo's in so there will be no change. But, you will see the renaming of all kinds of things so the poor folks will continue to feel good about life.     Please don't get me started....

1911 sights

How much for the work, please.   Thanks Lp
17. Didn't some guys set up a table next to a police table in Portland or someplace inthe great N.W. and buy up all the guns?   That needs to happen here.   Lp
18. Need to get back on the phones or email yer reps. Advise them to vote no on any new measures.   It's like Feinstein wanting to ban .50's although no one has ever been shot by on in the U.S.   If they don't get voted out of office we'll never be rid of these attacks on our constitutional rights.
19. Lowpower

Would you go?

Astronauts wouldn't go. Something to do with I.Q. or some such nonsense.   Requirements...never come back.    Beavis and Butthead come to mind....   The Obamartian (pronounced Oba Martian) will welcome you with open arms even though you might be considered an illegal alien. Wait! Bad word. Deportable.   Lp
20. 1. they didn't have enough guys. I heard Conn State Police were being called up along with the National guard.  2. they should have used drones. 3. they told the people who went to work to call and have someone pick them up while still looking for #2. 4. the whole state should have been on lockdown. 5. most of those guys would have been hard pressed to chase anyone down. perhaps too much time in a squad car, eating....?   ok, all joking aside....99% of the time the Police are there to investigate what happened not whats going to happen. That's why when you're being attacked right now the Police are only minutes away. Not to be harsh but think about it. Unless your a LEO in a 7-11 that's being robbed it's gonna happen with no one to stop it except perhaps an armed citizen.     One thing to remember if you don't want the guy to be captured alive just put out a "reward for the arrest and conviction". The States are so broke they can't afford to pay the reward so.....   I'm glad they got the guy alive. Now if we can send him Guantanamo and keep him out of the hands of the lawyers and politicians we might actually  find out why.   oh yeah, I walked a mile...
21. Like my other acquisition the Marlin .45ACP Carbine.... :)
22. WalMart is selling 9mm for $25 per 100 rd box. The .45 acp there is same price as you show.   Lp
23. Per News; State and Local Police along with the Army and Connecticut State and local Police are converging on the scene.  I don't think they have enough folks to catch the kid.     News is asking why the kids did it. If they put a 1 million dollar reward on the kid then we'll never know since no one will be able to collect if you catch my drift. (See what  happened to the Cop in California).   News is also asking, "how safe are we in the USA?"  I'm not sure but isn't homeland security's job? I really thought it was the FBI's job but I'm not sure anymore.   Ya gotta luv the news media.    LP
24. i started with a Nikon Buck Master 4.5X14X40 and it wasn't cutting it at 600 yds. At least for these tired old eyes. I paid $300 new and  ended up selling it to a friend. He stuck it on an AR varment gun and the guts came a part inside the tube when he shot it. I told him I'd give him his money back but he sent it to Nikon to fix and they ended up replacing it. They have good customer service but I can't afford that kind of down time when the weather breaks.  That little Nikon worked fine for 300 yds.   The Swift has never given me a problem and it has parallax adjustment on the forward tube.    Lp
25. You might look at the Swift 8X32X50. It's a 1/4 MOA scope It comes with a sun shade and the optics are clear enough to easily see the X on an FT/R target  at 600 yds. The X is 2 inches at 600 yds. WIth it being a variable scope you can dial out the mirage if you need to. I really never did that because I wanted to see mirage and I'd just wait until the boils stopped (wind shifts).    As far as price...  $249 + shipping so it won't break the bank. In fact, I think its the best bang for the buck around, Imho. http://www.eabco.com/store/rifle-scopes/swift-riflescopes-premier-srp-8-32x50mm-pa-matte/     I used one on my 40X .308 for 4 years then swapped it over to my Rem 700 PSS for a year. Swapped out the PSS and the Scope went with it. I should have kept it.    Edited to add..if you plan to shoot 600-1k yds make sure you also buy a 20 MOA rail or Burris Z-Rings with the 20 MOA inserts. Otherwise you  may not have enough clicks to get that far.    Hope this helps. Lp
