  1. All jokes aside, demand for .40 handguns has greatly declined. They just are not selling.

I've thought about possibly picking up a used glock just for this reason. I hate .40, but back during the panic days I could always find it just about wherever I went. If we fell on hard times again I could shoot the short & wimpy and conserve my other calibers.

  2. So have you shot it? Just wondering how reliable its been. I love the look of it.

Depending on which one you're talking about, I've put about 200 flawless rounds through the pistol and a handful through the rifle. I have a get together this coming weekend and both guns will have about 250 additional rounds put through them.

  3. I really like this, roughly how much to build it?

Thanks! You don't really want to know what it would take to replicate that one. Suffice it to say you could buy a nice factory built BCM RECCE for what I have in it. But it could easily be built a lot cheaper with lower end parts. Forged upper, bargain rail, cheaper lower from a variety of makers, things like that.

  4. "Finished" this one Friday. Still needs BUIS, a light, and a couple other do dads, but it's firing. Then again, I think there's something to be said for leaving it this way and just enjoying it. This one was much more a budget gun. Has a CMMG MK9 lower, Aero upper, Spinta bolt.

And just because I was bored, a picture showing a few different caliber AR's.

  5. The only Hustler 60" I see with a Kawasaki engine is a Fastrack, and is over seven grand.

Wow, they have changed things around. It looks like now nearly everything they offer has the Kohler engine. I see the 54" is offered with the Kawi engine as well as of right now. Nevermind me!

  6. I bought a hustler raptor about 4 years ago now. From what I remember when I was doing research and looking to buy, you're better off buying from a different dealer. For some reason, the hustler mowers Lowe's carry feature the Kohler engine. The mowers carried at their dealers have Kawi engines, which from my research is superior.

  7. It's very possible. The entirety of the actual NFA issue is the problem. It's absurd.

But I imagine there are more out there that would see issue and alarm with what effectively is an SBR (let's be honest, it's a loophole around paying a $200 tax isn't it?) and what would legally be a 16" AR.

Actually, with pistols it comes down to intent.
But, regardless I'll enjoy "cheeking" my blade until I can get my form 1 back with my permission from my masters to put a stock on something I already legally own. Good serf that I am and whatnot.

  8. So that is a brace on that? I thought it was a stock.
I still don't like the fine line and gray area of pistol v sbr enough to build a pistol that can be sbr'd easily. Too much potential for issues from people that are not 100% up on the law.

It's a "blade" vs a "brace", same basic concept. I'm not sure what your definition of "easily" is, but it would require removing the buffer tube and installing a new one to install a stock.

Now if you used a standard buffer tube, I could see why you would say "easily", but even then it's not illegal. If the ONLY way you can assemble a group of parts is in an illegal configuration, then it's illegal.

  9. So what paperwork needs to be filed on this? Is it not on a pistol lower? If it is not, is it not an issue having it assembled BEFORE filing?

A AR pistol does not need nor have to be built on a "pistol" lower, since receivers transfer as "receiver only".

What I was referring to was paperwork in the way of a form 1, to SBR this lower.

  10. It's been a good while since I've actually posted. This is one of the guns I've built most recently and it's quickly become a favorite to shoot. A 25 yard zero is also a 125 yard zero which I love. About the only things that might change are the back up sights so I can get the light closer to the 12 o clock rail, and some paperwork needs to be filed. Anyway, parts are as follows...

-Quarter circle 10 lower and bolt
    -CMT UPUR 2 upper
    -Ballistic advantage 5.5" barrel
    -BCM KMR 7" alpha rail
    -KAK shockwave and tube
    -PA advance micro dot
-Surefire scout mini on Arisaka mount

I need to get some better pictures soon

I'm currently working on another 9mm AR that takes colt mags with a stripped CMMG MK9 lower. I'll update this post in a few weeks with that.

  11. If I understand you right you want a "woods gun"

Get the 10mm. There's nothing .40 can do that 10mm can't, there are things 10mm can do that .40 can't.

    You're welcome.

  12. Back when i was getting a retro build together, a TGO member put me onto NODAK SPUD.
There's more going on there besides AR uppers... Real deal retro copies and historical facts.  I found that site very interesting.  They even offer the very early original "finger" charging handle upper with brown furniture.  Now that'd be a hoot at the range.
Anyways, i did do a deal with them and even tho the fella isn't the best at communication, i can truly say he knows his product and when i got my parts they were perfect.  Check out the other retro links on their website too.  All kinds of info.

Well done sir. This is the company I had in mind and could not remember the name

  13. It's a BCM stock. I would call THEM and ask what's up. Maybe Springfield stuck a Milspec stock on a commercial tube. I would be REAL surprised if BCM screwed up.

This or they're using the absolute cheapest receiver extensions mass produced and they're several thousandths big. I assure you it's not a BCM extension if it doesn't fit well with the stock.

  14. Yeah, I pretty much do. I used to enjoy going up there, but wanton commercialism has made what was once a quaint, beautiful vacation spot look like a run-down subdivision.  It's depressing driving through there every winter and seeing dozens more crappy chalets perched precariously on the slopes. I've stayed in a number of those chalets through the years and most of them were total junk. I refused to stay in more than one because I saw blatant code violations or structural issues and got the impression a strong fart would blow a few of them down.

Again, I feel bad for the families who've lived there a long time and lost their homes.  Lots of them are there because they were forcibly removed when the park was formed.

You'd think at a time like this a person would climb down from their high horse, and have some empathy. I suppose not.

I mean since I'm in the medical field, I guess I could say I don't care if their hospital burns simply because they give awful medical care by your logic.

  15. Got three does tonight with my SLR 107. Wanted to get pictures but it was too dark. The first two were DOA and I had to trail the third one for about 150 yards. Hornady SST is now my go to load for my AK.

Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Same here on the SST, although mine isn't an AK. I let a doe and a small spike walk this morning. It was just too windy for my liking. On the way back to the truck I jumped up what was probably a 6 point around 50 yards away but by the time I turned he was going away from me in some thick stuff. Did get this fairly cool picture though while I waited in my "stand" 1a178b8f95d59d51856895e521ead16c.jpg

  16. To answer your question about the Bushnell 4.5-18, I have one on my "SPR", and shoot at 500 yards with it routinely. It's overkill on 18x for what you want to do, but then again there's some folks that think they need a 24x to shoot at 50 yards
