    1911 virus

+1 for a RIA FS 9mm tactical. If I were buying today I'd get the 9mm/22tcm version. The 22tcm is apparently a hoot to shoot.
  2. 25 people in the class I was in and maybe 5 hand NEVER SHOT B4. All passed. When I found out that one round of the shooting was at 3 yards I thought I better try that B4 the test. It was so close it was really weird. Pay attention and when your instructor says 'this is important' or talks really loud, it's a good bet that it will be on the test. You won't need it but, Good luck.
  3.   My 1911 is a Rock Island Armory 9mm. Full size and the tactical version that has better sights. Very nice gun, accurate, easy and cheap to shoot.
  4. +1 on Rock Island. I would go with Tactical version for better sights. I have the 9mm version and love it.
  5. As stated above, I do not like the design. Berms just don't cut it for me. Rifle shooters would be afraid of pistol shooters and pistol shooters would be afraid of rifle shooters. I also think 300 yards from nearest house is just about 2 miles to short.
  6. At Fort Bragg in 1967 there wasn't one drill Sgt that ever cracked a smile. I sure hope this kid can fly a drone or something.

    cz 75

CZ 75 is on my wish list and I found some good reviews on the Canik 55TP-9SA which is a CZ 75 clone made in Turkey and a lot less expensive. Decisions, decisions decisions.
  8. I have the RIA FS Tactical but in 9mm. The rear sights were black but had 2 indented dots on either side and it was a nice place to put drops of white paint. The front sight is now red, I painted from the top of the sight down about half way.
  9. I have the RIA 9mm Tactical and it is flawless!! Blacked out sights but a place to put 2 drops of white paint on the rear sight and I did the front sight red. LOVE the pistol.
  10. I went to that show a couple of years ago and was not impressed. Has it gotten better? Maybe next year.
  11. Strong balance sheet and no debt.
  12. Thanks for the RR. The lc9s is on my short list with a M&P Shield and a Glock 26. I have be able to shoot the S&W and the Glock but only dry fire on the Ruger.
  13. Ruger NM Blackhawk 357/38. Single action is the way to go at the range. Plus Rugers are easy and fun to work on.
  14. +1 on RIA. Why 45? If for plinking etc get a 9mm and save a bunch on ammo. I have a RIA 9mm Tactical and love it. Got the Tactical version for the better sights. Gun is fun to take apart and reassemble.
  15. I use AdBlock plus on windows 8 and Chrome. It works fine. Do not and never will ever again use IE.
  16. I got called out for not posting a pic so here it is. My RIA Tac 9mm with the grips I made from a $2 hunk of craft wood from Lowes.
  17. I just bought a RIA 9mm Tac from Buds about 6 weeks ago. I had a bunch of issues in the first 300 rounds with extraction. This was my first 1911. Rather than calling Armscor I bought another extractor and after comparing it to the one in the gun I could see an issue with the stock extractor. All I did was put in the new one, tune it and shoot it. I now have 600 flawless rounds down range. Not one issue. I also did a little clean up on the trigger loop and in the grove that it rides in and can tell the difference. The trigger was very nice out of the box but I just couldn't leave it alone. This is one accurate pistol. I got the tactical version to get the better sights and a made a set of grips for it. I would recommend a RIA to a friend. And since I like to tinker with it I am not in danger a messing up a $1000 gun.
  18. I din't read all the posts but you need to consider a 1911 in 9mm. I have a month old Rock Island Tactical and love it. Very accurate and nice trigger. Plus its easy to work on and plenty of parts available. The Tac version has the upgraded sights over the std GI version. I like it better than my S&W M&P 9 with the FSS APEX trigger. Bought mine from Bud's.
  19. Please don't give in Dan Snyder. It will just be the first slide down the slippery slope. Guess what Oklahoma means in Choctaw?
  20. NOTE: Extensive use of +P ammunition will accelerate wear in your pistol.   This is from the Owners Manual   http://gunmanual.net/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=att_download&link_id=198&cf_id=24   Sounds like it OK to use just not a steady diet. I've attached the link to the manual so you will have that out of the way early and you can get to the range quicker.
  21. Commissary in Germantown is best around. Rendezvous can be very good, is in heart of downtown, just go early.

    Armsco 22

Guy at range knew I was looking for a project gun and I purchased a Armsco 22 made in Nashville probably in the 50's. They were made and sold by a Army Navy store in Nashville for $19.95. It looks like it was made in someone's garage. Gun was beat and dirty. Took it home cleaned it up and back to range and it actually fired, most of the time. Trigger pull is excessive and it shot about a foot high at 5 yards. I stripped it and rounded all the sharp edges and got rid of all the rust. Polished it up and painted it but didn't like it so stripped off the paint and cold blued it. Doesn't look to bad except side plate is different material from the frame and it didn't come out so hot. Actually found parts for it at Numrich. It came with white plastic grips that I replaced with some wood ones. Recent range trip and it fired every time in SA mode but only about 80% of time in DA mode. It's strange because you remove the cylinder rod and cylinder to load/unload. OK to shoot but it sure was a fun project. I had the thing completely apart and put back together about 10 times.    Here are some pictures  http://gtowngeorge.blogspot.com/
  23. My 357/38 revolver doesn't care what's going down the pipe. My wallet does. I try to alternate between the two so I don't get a 38 ring in the cylinder. The gun is heavy enough that recoil isn't an issue with either.
