1. Hey tennessee tiger I edited the title! I'll check in later. Gotta get littles to sleep! Thank you everyone! So much!
2. Thanks y'all!! A mess of things to consider!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
3. Thanks for the reminder. Def something to discuss with accountant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
4. Oh wow, the time in the car. One reason we want to move. I drive 2 hrs to work and 55 minutes to take the children to preschool. TN Tiger, do you happen to know anything about the nurse practitioner market up there? I am applying to schools now. Ideally I would like hospital work. So I need to 1) live on or near the lake 2) live within a reasonable commute to both a hospital and 3) an awesome school for my children. Any ideas? It is imperative to me to think of this without my husbands help. Ha! Sounds soooo bad. I don't mean it that way- honestly. But he travels and is not available for large portions at a time. So I ideally I need everything close-ish. Schools, work, home...has to be near the water. We are river rats. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
5. I just revisited this thread as a boxer has been mentioned to is several times! Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
6. No- that is pretty much a requirement- that we do not have to drive into Atlanta...nearly ever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
7. We are considering, heavily, a move from West TN to North of Atlanta- Cumming/Gainsville areas. We have two small children and are moving for 1) schools 2) childcare 3) hospitals (I am a nurse) 4) bass fishing (Lanier). Not gonna say that's in order :) ha! Anyone know anything about the area/general feedback? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I edited the title TNtiger thank you!!
8. After spending several years traveling about our children are starting school in August and we will finally be able to get a puppy ( maybe an older puppy)!! We are very excited!! My husband travels weeks and months at a time so the main attributes required: watch dog/intimidator, trainable- prefer a formal school, good with small children. Bonus for one that will hang around outside and enjoy playing with them! Outside time w us daily but an indoor dog mostly I would think. First thoughts are for a German Shepherd bc of past excellent experiences with them. But how do they do indoors? Anyone have any thoughts or insights? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
9. Yes and no. My understanding is that this (Zaire strain) strain is virulent in the body fluid. Example- you put body fluid of a flu patient under the scope and you see 50-70% pathogenesis. Throw this strain under there and you have closer to 100%. There is another strain that is primate to primate and is currently asymptomatic in primates (a Phillapine importer reportedly imported, on two different occasions, animals to Africa with the disease) that is airborne. Thus the fear of it mutating. There has been no proof that it will mutate to airborne but it has "evolved" steadily. I'm mobile currently. I will try and dredge up some links to this stuff when I get a chance. Maybe this will give those interested some google hits until then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
10. Willee I thouraghly enjoyed your response and very much appreciate it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
11. Has anyone seen the cancan holster? http://www.cancanconcealment.com I ordered one and I ordered the wrong holster. I ordered the big she bang- which is the 6" but my gun (shield) shifts more than I like in it. I am on the fence about returning it for the 5", keeping it and ordering the five and returning whichever after I get, or just saying forget it and trying the belly band. I have an alien gear on order...it's about 5-6 weeks out though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
12.
In most cases, dropping in a 9mm conversion barrel is recommended for RANGE USE ONLY and not for defensive carry. The 40 caliber extractor when using a 9mm conversion barrel has the potential to not reliably extract the smaller diameter 9mm round. It is, of course, important to use a "fatter" diameter 9mm conversion barrel and NOT a standard diameter 9mm barrel. Looking forward to your further updates. Good luck!
Thanks for all your help! I really need to spend some time with "her" before I jump to conclusions :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
13.
One tip, keep proof that it is paid for years. Every now and then you hear a case where someone thought they paid off a ticket years before and it has come back to haunt them. Myself I have had 2 but don't ask me to prove I paid either. I know I did but it was before I considered keeping any records. Second, Be sure to post a picture of your new gun with a range report. :D
Now I have never had a SA before. I have never broken one down and cleaned it, so that was job one yesterday. I did it so anyone can is the new motto here. My first thought was that the recoil was a bit much and I immediately regretted not getting the 9 mm ( I got the .40 cal) but... I think I need more time before I make an opinion. Plan is range tomorrow but this is an exceptionally busy week on the home front so it may get delayed. Thank y'all for asking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
14.
Well did you get your Shield or did they just haul you off to the Decatur Co. Clink? :-)
Oh I got it!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
15.
Smith was selling them for $70 but then stopped for whatever reason. I have not seen any for sale since. I can not tell much of a difference in the 9 and the 40 as long as the 180 grain was being shot in the .40.
Ah, good to know. I was shooting 170 grain brass- FMJ. Not sure what kind of difference that makes. I'll get the 180 and see. --thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
16.
You can not go wrong with either caliber. Initially you could buy 9mm barrels to drop in the .40's but S&W stopped selling them. I bet the aftermarket will respond soon with 9mm barrels for them if you really want a 9mm. For now enjoy the large availability of .40S &W ammo.
Yea... That recoil is pretty fierce :) Probably shoulda gone 9mm. Any idea how/where to find a 9 mm barrel? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
17. I actually just got home from picking it up. After a good month of deliberation I still didn't know. I got the .40 cal. Now why over the 9 mm? I don't know. It felt better in my hand is really all I got. If I don't like it I can swap it to a 9 mm or keep the .40 for the house. Now I have got to get this pesky housewife stuff done (laundry and groceries) so I can clean er up and take her for a spin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
18. They just emailed me the notice that payment was accepted so YES, I am breathing. :) And about to go pick up my first semi-automatic. :) never bought myself a gun so with all of this I wasn't even going to bother until I knew it was settled. Thank you all for the hand holding!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
19. I called this morning- just now. The clerk said as long as I paid it I was fine. I will def. follow up on it later this week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
20.
The 940 will show up occasionally around here, though I've yet to get and keep one. I did have one for a month or so, but got talked out of it by the orginal owner. I favor the 547 9mm myself. Got a call from my brother-in-law one day when he was working at a lgs. He knew I liked Smith's and 9mm, so when one came in the shop, he called. I went immediately and its been with me for about 10 years, and I have no plans on letting it go.
I honestly didn't know there was another 9 mm SW out there. I waited too long to grab one I saw on the SW forum. But I have not been searching lately either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
21. And I wanna 940. A 9mm SW revolver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
22. Well here is mine. Nothing like y'all's gems but it was my husbands grandmothers and it means the world to this ole gal. Around 1960's to 70's. I've got the exact specks somewhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
23. I was questioning if the fanny packs and other generic holsters needed something else to cover the trigger, or if they were safe just the way they were- without being a molded custom fit...make sense? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
24. Alternate! Not ternate :) Looking into several alternate carry options, including something for dresses, long drives, and running. I am concerned about the options not being custom for the gun. The gun is a MP Shield 9 btw. Like this one for running and some dresses: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GU53VFK/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&smid=AO4HD803GPOGJ This one driving or long dresses (this one is a custom for the Shield, but an ankle): http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0086VZ7GC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER I have about decided on a DK Bullard or CB holster for everyday, but I would still much much rather not have to remove holster to use the restroom. So what are the general thoughts on these not custom holsters safety wise? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
25. Right now in various carts started: I have a CB Supertuck, the "shebang" http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GU53VFK/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&smid=AO4HD803GPOGJ, DeSantis Die hard Ankle http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0086VZ7GC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER And a friend makes custom leather holsters at https://www.facebook.com/groups/555090097854863/permalink/657926784237860/ I am really leaning towards having Kris make one but am concerned it being my first holster that I won't know if something is amiss. Like if the leather becomes worn or I am doing something wrong. As to using the name brand stuff there is so much info out there. I hope that makes sense. I'm not distrusting his product in the least! I just want to be clear, I am so new I am doubting my own abilities. Well I can't get the link to work to the friends page so: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
