  1. I'm not sure what the change in attitude was about. She never had any problems with me shooting/collecting. She was supportive of me getting into IDPA, she even would go to the range every once in a while. One day last month she said "sign me up for your next class, I want my permit" I had mentioned I would like her to get it, but she said she didn't want the responsibility of carrying in public. Not sure what changed her mind, but I'm happy
  2. Find the closest club and try it out. It's loads of fun. All you need is a decent holster, hearing and eye protection, mag holder and ammo. Most of the clubs will let you shoot one match or two without joining the IDPA. It's much more fun than square range static target practice.
  3. My 1911s run Federal HST 230 grain My 9mms in the house have Hornady TAPs
  4. The wife had the day off today so I played hooky with her and we: Went to her dentist appt Went by Joelton gun store so she could look at the Sig 239, but she liked the Springfield EMP better Went to lunch Went to TDOS to fill out her HCP application and to process my renewal Went to Guns and Leather to get her fingerprinted and to have some range time. Well...once at Guns and Leather I showed her several different pistols, Sigs, Paras, but she kept going back to the EMP. Price wasn't too bad, cheaper than Joelton by a decent bit. After a bit of time, the yellow form...and my credit card came out and now she is the proud owner of her 1st pistol. A nice Springfield EMP 9mm 1911. It's not a .45 but at least it's a 1911. She shot it very well today on their range. Next...holsters and getting her comfortable with carrying in condition 1.
  5. Now if someone can translate from politician speak... I guess they kept the damn restrictions, only reworded it to be a bit more confusing
  6. ON MARCH 30, 2009, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND RESET HOUSE BILL 962, AS AMENDED. AMENDMENT #1 revises the provision whereby this bill applies only if the establishment is not a venue restricted to persons age 21 or older to instead specify that the authorization does not apply: (1) At such times the restaurant is age-restricted to persons age 18 or older; and (2) Between the hours of 11:00p.m. and 5:00 a.m. ON APRIL 6, 2009, THE HOUSE FURTHER CONSIDERED HOUSE BILL 962, AS AMENDED BY HOUSE AMENDMENT #1, AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 962, AS AMENDED.
  7. yes I believe the amendment took out the age restrictive venue crap and the curfew. The admendment was written during the session so I'm not sure

  11. I had to install the Win media player for firefox to get it to play, nothing was working in Internet Explorer. They've pushed the bill back to give the sponsor time to review some of the changes...now they're talking about the courts budget. I can't imagine staying awake in one of these meetings. This is what I downloaded for Firefox and it works fine http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx
  12. Senate is meeting on the carry bills now I'm not as quick as some of the posters here on government double speak so I'm not going to be doing a play by play, but it sounds pretty good for us
  13. Now the next question is: Is the plaza off limits to HCP holders?

  16. If they are too stupid to get it right, I'm not going to help them
  17. Nothing new. Paypal is rabidly anti gun. Close the account. Funny thing it I'd bet your balance that you could sign up to any porn site with that same card. I hate companies attempting to excerpt their moral authority on what I can and can't do. It's my money...not theirs.
  18. Perhaps Barry will send a strongly worded letter to the pirates...or toss them a few billion in stimulus aid.
  19. Also from the TFA: Tennessee Firearms Association, Inc. Legislative Action Committee First, the restaurant carry bill that has been moving in the House, HB0962 (Rep. Curry Todd) passed the full House on April 6 on a vote of 70 to 26. While its a step in the right direction, it still has restrictions including the 11:00 p.m. curfew as well as the "age restricted" restaurant limit which are both opposed by TFA. The bill is only starting to move in the Senate with Sen. Doug Jackson as its sponsor. Our hope now is to strip the curfew and age restrictions on the Senate bill and attempt to get the House to concur and/or force this issue to a conference committee. Good news nonetheless because this is one issue we have been fighting since 1995 and it only happened after Jimmy Naifeh was finally displaced as Speaker of the House - coincidence or correlation one might ask. Time for some fun with the news media! Call in opportunities on live television and an opportunity to show your support for TFA and gun owners in Tennessee. 23. Source: Missing Somali-American Spotted at Minneapolis Shopping Mall Sunday , March 22, 2009 By Mike Levine At least one of the Somali-American men who returned to the U.S. after being recruited to join an Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group was spotted at a Minneapolis mall in November. But the man hasn't been seen or heard from since and may have been arrested, a local Muslim leader told FOX News. A source familiar with the FBI investigation into the case said "several" of the men recruited to join the Somalia-based terrorist group — known as al-Shabaab — have returned to the U.S. "Some of the guys who were missing aren't missing anymore," the source told FOX News. "Some of them got blown up and some of them came back, and some of them are still there [in Somalia]." The source would not say publicly if authorities know the whereabouts of the men who returned to the U.S., nor would the source say if authorities are pursuing arrests in the case. But Muslim leaders in the Minneapolis area told FOX News that they believe arrests are coming. The FBI has been investigating at least 20 Somali-American men — most from the Minneapolis area — who have traveled to war-torn Somalia, where some of them trained and fought with al-Shabaab, according to counterterrorism officials. In October 2008, Shirwa Ahmed — a 27-year-old college student from Minneapolis — became the first known American suicide bomber when he blew himself up in Somalia, where the moderate government has been warring with al-Shabaab since 2006. Ahmed's body was flown back to the U.S. and buried in early December. One month later, a 22-year-old man who traveled to Somalia was spotted at a Minneapolis shopping mall, according to Omar Jamal, executive director of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in St. Paul, Minn. Jamal would not identify the man, but said family members had confirmed that the man had returned from Somalia. But no one has seen or heard from the man or his family in recent weeks, according to Jamal, who said the man may have been arrested or may be hiding with his family. Counterterrorism officials said at a Senate hearing weeks ago that there is no intelligence to indicate that Somali-Americans who traveled to Somalia are planning attacks inside the U.S. "We do not have a credible body of reporting right now to lead us to believe that these American recruits are being trained and instructed to come back to the United States for terrorist attacks," said Philip Mudd, a top-ranking official with the FBI’s National Security Branch. "Yet, obviously, we remain concerned about that, and watchful for it," he said. Minneapolis has become the hub of the FBI's investigation, but the bureau is casting a wide and growing net across the country — even in cities hundreds of miles from Minneapolis. Testimony from counterterrorism officials and others at the Senate hearing suggested that the FBI investigation is active in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio, Boston, Seattle, and San Diego. "The FBI will follow leads wherever they take us," said Rich Kolko, the chief of the FBI's National Press Office. The FBI field office in San Diego has already interviewed "dozens" of people from the local Somali-American community, according to San Diego attorney Mahir Sherif. Sherif said he knows at least one Somali-American who has received a subpoena to appear before a San Diego grand jury. He said the individual "consulted" with him after receiving the subpoena.
