  1. Eugene is no expert either. Blown up guns sure made for dramatic effect when watched by the general public though. It's TV people ....... just TV. I enjoy the series much more when I don't pick it apart. You can do that with most TV series. Miami Vice was even worse than this in the firearms department.
  2. Karma? I bet you believe in BigFoot too. The cause of the fire has not been disclosed (as far as I know) but I'm fairly certain that "Karma" had absolutely nothing to do with it .........
  3. Remember ....... It's just television. Probably 98% of the viewers have no idea about reloading or other firearm related things that we understand and use on a daily basis. The writers were striving for entertainment value, not total realism.
  4. I'd like to hear that also .......
  5. Seeing Negan being pulled around on that sled was the funniest thing I have seen on this series. Hilarious! Carl's death obviously hurt Negan. And he showed a lot of feeling when talking about his former wife "Lucille". Makes me wonder if the writers are going to do a role reversal between him and Rick in the near future. Especially after Rick slaughtered the guys from the Sanctuary last week.
  6. Sorry you had such a bad experience there. Mine was totally opposite. They have always treated myself and my family with respect and courtesy. Also can't believe that you are pleased at a loss this large to a gun retailer. Seriously? Pretty vindictive in my opinion ........ We need these retailers and indoor ranges. They support our gun rights and have a vested interest in the 2nd Amendment.
  7. A man after my heart. My son has shot skeet competitively for many years, and we have both decided that unless waterfowl are in the picture a quality O/U will get the job done and are a true pleasure to shoot. As long as you stay away from the Stoeger and other inexpensive guns, you can shoot it until you leave this earth. While he shoots more expensive guns in competition, we own several Citoris and they are dead nuts reliable with a little bit of preventive maintenance along the way. My favorite field gun is a Remington Premier O/U in 28 gauge that was built by Sabatti in Italy. Great little gun, light weight, and a pleasure to shoot. I have used it for everything from skeet to pheasants in South Dakota. If you aren't tied to the 12 gauge wagon, find yourself a little 28 gauge gun and you'll learn quickly how versatile and fun they are.
  8. Forgot about the helicopter. Good catch. Carl's death was off the original "track" of the story, so who knows what they will come up with now. I will say that after 8 seasons this series could very well be on it's last legs unless they amp up the twists and turns to increase interest above the current level. I'm hearing lots of complaints lately.
  9. Kinda slow and skipped around too much. It did, however, put Simon on the waiting list for Lucille. I gotta wonder if Rick is losing it a bit after Carl's death and is hell-bent on taking Negan out. That might get him and the rest of the crew in a bad spot.
  10. A huge THANK YOU to everyone. We are going to go Friday & Saturday, and Sunday if we can't get our fill after 2 days. I did visit the NRA website before I posted, but I had heard "rumors" that Thursday was doable. Glad to know the facts about that not being the case. Can't wait to get out there for a few days.
  11. Ron, NRA says it is a go. Dallas did ask them to reconsider but things were too far along to make the change. Thanks to everyone for the replies. Still wish I knew if it was open on Thursday. I might call and inquire.
  12. I'm going to Dallas in May for the Annual NRA Convention. I read elsewhere that even though the Convention dates are Fri, Sat, & Sun, the exhibit hall is open on Wed & Thur also. Is this correct? I couldn't find any info on the NRA website that confirmed this. If so, it would be wise to go on those days to avoid the weekend crowds. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
  13.   I'll have to remember for future reference that your opinion trumps anyone else's.   It's just like any other site .... including this one.  You have to read through the content and decide for yourself what is useful.   You must own something that received a bad review over there, lol.
  14.   Say what you want, but I have found Trip Advisor to be a good tool at times.  Like every other review site, it can be falsely misleading.  You have to be smart enough to weed through the crap and find the useful reviews.  There are internet cowboys everywhere you turn  ...
  15.   That's what I said.  Go there and see for yourself.
  16. I haven't been in there (drove by a couple of times) but their reviews on Trip Advisor aren't too encouraging.
  17. Use the CCI BR4 primers.  Way safer due to the thicker cup.  Yeah, I know that slam fires are extremely rare, but why not eliminate the possibility if you can do so for a minor increase in primer cost.  BR4 ... only way to go.
  18. Folks, you have to maintain control of your animals.  Plain and simple.  What was the guy supposed to do?  Wait until he was bitten to defend himself?  If the dog was charging and he had waited he could have been maimed for life or worse!   Any of you guys ever actually been attacked by a dog?  Well, I have.  Several times.  I worked for a gentleman who trained guard dogs back in the late 70s.  He trained dobermans and rottweilers.  On several occassions I was the "bad guy" and wore the pads while the dogs attacked me.  Let me tell you that it is a VERY VERY scary thing.    So no ...... I'm not going to take a chance on getting bit.  If your animal charges me and gets into my "space" he's a dead dog.  You can react afterwards as you see fit.  But if you attack me afterwards you may be seen as threatening my life and end up with the dog!
  19. I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.  I only stated the FACTS that loads need to be worked up carefully for each and every individual rifle.  That's basic reloading practice.   I can only assume that you have a test barrel in your possession since you "load to 5.56 pressures".    Otherwise, how else are you accurately measuring these pressures in your chamber?    Unless you have a test barrel, you're simply guessing at the pressure load.  And to make a safe guess, you have to start at a certain point with your loads and work up slowly.  Right?  My point is that it makes no difference what chamber you have, you still must work up a load slowly and methodically until you find a safe load that suits your needs.   And being a mechanical engineer has nothing to do with knowing how to reload.  Same as my profession has no bearing.
  20.   What, exactly, are "5.56 pressures"?    There could be a book written on the differences ... or lack of differences ... between the 2 cartridges.  Not to mention that NATO measures pressures at the throat and SAAMI measures them at the center line of the case.  But in reality, it's a moot point.    Any load that is developed should be tailored and loaded for a specific rifle.  That is ..... a specific CHAMBER.  As chambers are reamed at the factory the reamer obviously wears over time.  When the reamer will no longer ream a chamber to SAAMI specifications it is discarded and a new one replaces it.  This results in various (although extremely small) chamber sizes in the same rifles from the same manufacturer as the reamers wear and are replaced.  Not all chambers are the same.   But, even though it's true that's not really the issue with "XXX Pressure" statements.   ANY time we build a load for a particular rifle we should start at a safe point and work up slowly until we find the accuracy node that we are looking for or until we start seeing obvious pressure signs.  A good recommendation is to start at a mid point in the published load data for that cartridge.  This accuracy node or pressure warning can occur at various powder charges in different rifle chambers.  Sure, some loaders use the same data as other loaders are are well satisfied with the results.  Most seasoned loaders will never use a load based upon something they read on the internet or something they were told.  They know that their rifle is a very individual chamber and loads need to be developed carefully for it in order to achieve the best accuracy, velocity, and safety.
  21. LOVE IT. My first was a Colt, but I've owned SA and other as well. Finally convinced myself that I only needed two 1911s. One is a Colt Gold CUp in .45ACP, but my favorite of all time is this plain 'ole pistol in .38Super ..................................
  22. We load extensively and hunt hogs with our rifles.  I load Benchmark / 60 VMax for everything.   A couple of things that I have found .......   Unless you've loaded up on the Wolf primers, drop them and go to CCI BR4 primers.  Way better consistency and a little tougher cup.   You likely will find your best accuracy somewhere below max published data.  Not always, but usually.   Like someone already said ...... loading a .223 for max velocity is wasting powder and stressing components.  No need.   We shoot hogs and kill them quickly with a load that runs roughly 2850.  We shoot them in the ear at ranges from 50 to 200 yards.  Accuracy is of extreme importance to us ... velocity not so much.   Lastly, for pure shooting pleasure and economy (as well as accuracy!) find a load that isn't tipping the max.  You'll be far better off in the long run.
  23. I reload for 3 different gauges.  We save money on 28 gauge loads, but 12 and 20 are a toss up.  The main reason I load for them is so that we can tailor the loads to our liking.

You're an idiot. There are no "kick-backs" in the veterinary industry ... I can ASSURE you of that. What other words of wisdom, about things that you know nothing about, do you have for us?
