  1. I received my paperwork for my Enhanced TN carry permit, so I mailed my completed paperwork and payment on June 1, 2022. I received the card in the US mail on June 28th with the card stating it had been issued June 21. So, about a month for the renewal process. Now, this renewal changes the expiration month (permits expire 8 years from date of issue) so it's no longer my birth month. Do be aware if you decide to renew early that the expiration is 8 years from the issue date of the new permit, NOT 8 years extension from your old permit expiration date. You might want to time it more carefully than I did if you want to keep your expiration month the same as your birth month! FWIW: TN driver's license are the same way - 8 years from date of issue!! Not a huge deal, but it does make it harder to remember when it expires.... Get it on that calendar!!!!
  2. I finished mine in September.  Our instructor said they score 2 points per shot.  I think a score of 70 or greater is passing.  In theory, if you got all of the shots at 3 and 5 yards, you could just not even try the 7 yard shots and you would still pass.  I don't think anyone in our group did that since any hits would count for you and unfired shots would be considered "misses".   It took about 2 weeks to actually receive the permit after the dashboard web site said I was "approved".
  3. For whatever it's worth:  I took the class on 9/19/15 (Saturday), DMV on 9/21/15 (Monday), and fingerprinting late in the day on 9/22(Tuesday).  Checked status on the web site 9/24 (Thursday) around 1:30pm and it shows "approved. Allow 10 business days for delivery of your permit".  I really didn't expect the background check to be that fast.     Waiting on the mail....
  4. I haven't had a lot of prior firearms experience but did a ton of BB/pellet gun shooting as a kid.  Even had a makeshift BB/pellet range setup at our house growing up!    I started recently shooting a 22lr pistol, and I feel like I'm doing well. Sight alignment and sight picture came back fairly quickly! I can replicate the TN carry permit range test and all 50 shots hit in the "countable" area - and fairly nice groupings.  I am scheduled for the "official" carry class in late September (due to class availability and my work schedule).  However, I know that the range part of the test isn't "that" difficult.   Anyway, my question is:  How would I know that I'm ready to start transitioning to a higher caliber -- probably to a 9mm from the 22lr??  If I do decide to rent a 9mm on a future range visit to try, how would I know if that's "too much gun for me right now"?  Or should I even have that concern with a 9mm?   Thanks for your assistance!!   Alan Chattanooga, TN
