  1. Welcome! That is a beautiful part of the state. I get up there for work a few times per month.
  2. Correction. This is a GREAT group to be associated with! (Glad it all worked out.... now sign your son up for an account at your credit union). - K
  3. I know it hasn't been that long, but it's fairly worn from all the use and washings..... Can we request a reprinting of the 2nd Amendment T-shirts w/ TGO Logo (What part of the "Shall not be infringed don't you understand")? I usually get a lot of compliments when wearing it, but it's fading and getting holes in it. Would love to order another one or two, if it were possible? Thanks. - Kevin
  4. Agree on the issue of critical mass RockHopper. Too many people are ignorant and stupid these days, as a result of the indoctrination routine called "Education". Critical thought and self examination are not merely left untaught, but actively discouraged. Just do what you're told and take this simple math problem that's been unnecessarily complicated and solve it the way you're told - no credit if you don't do it the right way, we are concerned with process, not results! I moved to the great state of Tennessee 3 years ago, from similar circumstances you describe up in NY. I had heard it for years, but it took me a long time to understand and appreciate the concept of 'voting with my feet'. Don't be afraid, it's really not as bad as it seems, and frankly, after the fact now, I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. Wish I would have, would have been easier on the kids! By your description, it sounds like that's no longer a concern for you.... so do it. Get the *&^#! out of dodge, and move somewhere you are welcome. If enough people do so, then those states, area's, regions, neighborhoods, will achieve 'critical mass', and be able to defend against the issues you express concern over.
  5. I believe that is FINRA, not Robinhood. I had my account locked up a few times at TDA because of coming and going too frequently, too soon. You have to register as a day trader, and your account is monitored differently than an 'average joe' trader.
  6. Agree, nice looking Garden Greg! I've seen people using those 250-330 gal caged plastic containers you see on Craigslist for rainwater catch. Need screen netting to keep mosquito's out the top, and a few pieces of PVC to reduce the 1" valve at the bottom to hose-bib, but are fairly easy to setup elevated on cinder-block foundations, etc.
  7. LOL! I was privileged growing up. At about 13 my Dad decided it was mid-life crisis time, and bought a 1977 red MGB. About 2 years later, he outgrew it. There that car sat in the garage, and I'd just turned 16. I swear it's the reason I lost my virginity, she just loved riding around in that car.
  8. What we need to do is ask @Highwalker to stop by and comment, as no doubt he teaches something about eating Poke greens in his very enjoyable and informative "Wild Edibles Class" offered free several times throughout the year.
  9. Yeah, what Murgatory said (good friend lives near the lake, hear's gang bangers on summer nights). Crime is beyond rampant. Chicago is an amazingly fun town, but I wouldn't want to live there. Best of luck.
  10. Can't say I've ever heard or seen it (as he trundles off to The Goog...) - K
  11. Ditto what's been said so far, depends on your application. If it's just punching holes in paper and letting off steam, a 22 will do the job. I've got a Ruger American Bolt Action, very happy, fun to shoot, cheap to own. Of course, the ubiquitous AR platform is begging to be mentioned. On top of all the other great features, you'll piss off a liberal, and who doesn't love doing that? - K
  12. Thanks fella's, that helps clear things up for me! - K
  13. Love my 9C version 1. Great match between a full-size and pocket carry (I can conceal it, but it handles like a full size for me). Primary reason I got the 9 was ammo capacity, 12 or 18 rds w/ extended mag. The .45 only carried 9 I think? Got me to thinking, and I don't mean to start a debate, just showing my ignorance... if you were going to carry a .40-cal, why not a .45? I know it's a debated topic, but is there an inherent feature to the 40-cal cartridge that I'm missing? If I was interested in bigger-bang (aka 45 vs. 9), I'd be shopping for .45 or 10mm! I see a lot of police turn-ins in 40, so I always assumed there was a reason, just can't think of it?
  14. It's usually considered a 'soft' check, and does not impact your credit. Only when filling out the paperwork for the actual loan application, will it impact your credit. Ditto shop around, never hurts to ask. One lender conversation may have a different tidbit of information, or different way of saying things, and help you get a clearer picture. Also rates may vary. 0.25% might not seem like a lot, but it will over the life of the loan. You may be better off buying points, too. Also make sure to add in any PMI (Private Mortgage Insurance), Home Insurance, and taxes to your 'payment' number. You can easily increase your monthly by several hundred dollars right there....
  15. Well now how could you have been married 25 years, when you don't look a day over 19?!?!
  16. As a yankee transplant, a guy I was working for explained it to me... Sometimes folks from out of state move here and start spouting off about how things should be, or the way they used to do it back home... and frankly, that's not the least bit appreciated. In particular, northerners are notorious for this (I'm from NY, believe me, it's one reason why I left that state!) You will find folks down here are friendly and amicable, but as soon as you open your mouth, they'll know you ain't from around these parts (accent), and can expect the following 3 questions: Where you from/why did you move here? (see TNBuckeye's comment for the reason why) Where do you work? (Damn freeloading hippie's can go back to where you came from!) What Church do you go to? (You would love ours, why don't you come on next Weds?) Funny story, one time a nice old lady at the grocery store was chatting me up in the produce section (they'll do that down here, honest), and I was getting tired of the church question, so on a lark, I said "Heaven's no, we don't go to church, we're Jewish". Swear to God, she turned white as a ghost and walked away without saying another word.
  17. LOL! That's the weird part, I've only met a couple of people in person. There are T-shirts, hat's, decal stickers for your car.... still never see any TGO'ers at the range, even though I've probably shot next to them! LOL!
  18. I for one firmly believe the purpose and scope of the 2nd amendment is to act as a leash on government, and ensuring the populace has the means, and capability, to defend their freedom against a government who's grown too big for it's britches! If one knows even a smattering of history, then you know it ain't about deer rifles, and if you're paying attention to the news today, you know it's as appropriate as ever!
  19. Welcome to TN! As another transplant from the communist North (Western NY area), you'll be pleased with the changes here. Also a member at ORSA, it's a great club - has a bit of a country-club feel to it, some of the other ranges around here are just dirt pits w/ steel targets. Frankly, I think that's one of it's good points however. Be glad to give you a tour any time. I'm also out on the West side of Knox. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you've got any questions about the area. Got a good buddy lives downtown Chi-town near the lake, wish I could convince him it's time to move, alas, he likes the city too much. - Kevin
  20. https://crimeresearch.org/2017/07/12-3-americans-sometimes-carry-handguns-5-4-americans-carry-time-2-4-carry-time/ For those only interested in the money shot: — 30% of American adults say that they own a gun — 72% of the people who own a gun, say they own a handgun or a pistol — 11% of handgun owners say that they carry all the time, 26% say they carry most or all the time, and 57 percent say that they carry at least some of the time. Assuming 242.9 million adults, what does that imply? — 2.4% say that they carry all the time — that translates into over 5.83 million people. — 5.62% carry most or all the time — that translates into over 13.64 million people. — 12.3% carry at least some time in the past — that translates into over 29.9 million people. My employer prohibits me from carrying while on the job, because we sometimes go into schools and other area's that it is forbidden. However when I am performing in my sales or management role, and won't be going into one of those places, I do carry, concealed. Screw 'em. That's why they call it 'concealed carry'. Likewise, most of the time I leave the house (unless going to the kids' school for a ball game, etc.), I carry. I won't say 100%, but closer to 80-85% of the time (quick run to the corner store, I don't often bother). - K
  21. Kick life to the curb and make it a point to go to one of Highwalker's FREE classes. Time well spent, great fellow, great time. I'd wait for warmer/drier weather, but don't miss out on a great learning opportunity. Frankly, it's best to attend a couple classes at different times of the year? What you see in Spring will be different than what you see in the Summer and Fall.
  22. Anderson lower and upper, great rifle. Felt good knowing I was supporting a US Machine shop by buying American Made product as well.
