  1. Odd man out I guess, I'm wishing I would have just spent the money and got the G26 instead. I prefer the Glock trigger, the thickness and capacity of the G26 over my Sheild. Good little gun but I personally would be happier with the Glock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. part 1 & 2 of the FBI's training film regarding this incident.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlSCE88UhyA   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAUDnzDhQpc
  3. It is my understanding that the strobing function of high intensity lights was originally designed for Law Enforcement low light subduing tactics. Basically one officer blinds the subject with the high intensity strobe, thus concealing the other officers movements allowing them to circle and close on the subject. While constant on beams can be blinding and disorientating, the rapid strobing in theory prevents the eyes from adjusting and picking up peripheral movement. (According to John Hodaway of Nighthawk Custom and adjunct instructor for Massad Ayoob Group training.) This effect is negated if the subject has a light of their own or if there is enough ambient light to prevent adequate concealment during the off cycles of the strobe.
  4. Good luck performing a one hand draw under stress. Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk
  5. Not sure about the depreciation of the value I guess it depends on the quality of the work and what someone is willing to pay. The one pictured below I sold for $650 with one spare mag, Lone Wolf Distrubters extended barrel, extended slide stop an Vickers mag release. If you are going to do your own stipple job be sure to use a light hand, only enough heat to just melt and not burn the polymer and a whole lot of patience. If you are getting stipple work done ask to see some of the work. Check for excessive heat, warping, overall consistency and depth. Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk
  6. Going to be using my M92 pap for deer hunting this year and was looking for input on off the shelf ammo choices for its 10" barrel. Looking for reliable penetration and expansion out to 125 yards (95% of shots will likely be inside of 50 yards). Kinda leaning towards Fusion, Winchester PDX1 or Hornady SST. Thoughts, experience and/or suggestions appreciated. Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk
  7. "is it safe?"........ in my opinion that depends mostly on a quality holster and a personal commitment to train, but I believe that applies to all modes of carry. Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk
  8. Again make it known ahead of time and avoid the butt hurt.
  9. If they are really wanted felons....... illegally carrying guns........ and drinking...... do you really think they are going to give a crap whether or not your feelings are hurt that they didn't announce they were illegally carrying a gun while being on the run from the law???? Sounds like you need better friends!! lol If I have invited someone into my home then it is because I trust them and that includes their judgement as to who is acceptable as an additional guest. I do agree guns and alcohol don't mix but again I think it is up to the party host. They are responsible to make it known that anyone drinking should not be armed.
  10. I am a firm believer that a person's home is their castle and they have every right to choose who they let into it or not for whatever reason(s). Same way I believe every business has every right to do the same. The simple solution to this whole issue is to make it known before it happens instead of freaking out when does. If you don't want to do it verbally with every house guest put a gun-busters sign/sticker up on your door, or come up with some other method to make it loud and clear. I don't notify every single business I walked into that I armed and make sure it is kosher with them, nor do I do that when visiting friends and family's homes. I don't see this as a respect or disrespect issue because to me my carry guns are not a taboo thing. They are simply tools, just another part of my edc attire. Every time you go out in public, whether knowingly or unknowingly, you are around other people who are armed. I guess I just don't see the difference just because you have invited them into your home. If you do, well that is your prerogative but I still say you need to make it known ahead of time or not freak out when ya find out someone is carrying.
  11. No different than the way I feel about people I don't know who appear to be unarmed honestly. It is not a matter of fear, paranoia or being "on guard" all the time as much as it is just paying attention to what is happening around you. Of the people whom I would invite to my house, I obviously trust them and therefore I trust their judgement well enough not to bring any shady characters around. That said, if someone were to give me an uneasy feeling, whether armed or not, I will politely ask my friend and their guest to leave. I will not compromise my family's or my own safety for the sake of sparing someone else's feelings.    For all the folks who are bent out of shape about having an armed house guest who has done nothing except for being armed I have to ask....., have you never been to a public shooting range where you are surrounded by armed people that you don't know??? People who are actually handling and shooting their guns near you??? This whole conversation is mind boggling to me.
  12. You can get a 50 pound block of salt(white not the dark colored mineral blocks) from most feed stores or your local tractor supply store for $6-10. Very easy and convenient to store it and a clean rasp file to take what you need when you need it. While the labels say "not for human consumption" it is perfectly safe, it just has to be labeled as such for legal reasons.
  13. Scored a 42. Some of the stuff seems a little silly though and I completely disagree with the "if you scored less than 20 points then it's too late for you, you're going to die" comment after the quiz. The Food Rising Mini Farm while certainly a neat concept you are going to need an awful lot of those and a place to set them up. I can see them being useful in an urban environment like window, balcony and/or roof top gardens but they require a lot of water and I just see people taking the water out of desperation or not having water to add back to it as it evaporates off or is used by the plants. I understand the idea of the padded bank account and storing some of your wealth in precious metals but given the scenario this guy lays out in end, it seems kinda moot to me. If you have the other stuff squared away you could barter for that stuff if you wanted precious metals. A can of beans is going to be worth more to a starving person than a pound of gold or silver. JMHO
  14. 200lbs each of rice and pinto beans for charity food for my imediate neighbors.
  15. Me personally , if they make it known my gun isn't welcome then I figure neither am I. I value my life more than their feelings. I realize that stance isn't for everyone though so yah got three options, go without, go with or ask them if they're cool with it ahead of time. As for the folks pooping their pants about people coming over armed without announcing they are... if you don't trust them to not be a criminal and potentially attack you, why the hell are you letting them in your house to begin with???
  16. I have several different alcohol stoves and like them well enough but for the rugged minimalist approach my go to is the old tried and true GI 1qt canteen system consisting of canteen, canteen cup, canteen cup stove, half a dozen trioxane fuel bars tucked away in an insulated cover/pouch that also has a pocket with a little bottle of Potable Aqua Iodine tablets. One complete system gives you a means to carry water, two ways to make it safe to drink, a stove that works with the fuel bars, coals from a fire, tea candles, pop can alcohol stoves etc and the fuel bars can be broken up and used as emergency tinder in a pinch. You can wear it on your belt if you want it as a stand alone piece of your kit or attach it to you pack if you desire.    As far as MRE verses freeze dried Mountain House style meals go it depends.... If you have plenty of water to re hydrate the freeze dried meals, have the time to stop and prepare it and are not worried about food smells drawing in unwanted attention... then the MH meals are lighter in weight and in my opinion taste better. MRE's on the other hand can be eaten cold(limiting down time to prepare food and emit less odors), are typically more calorie dense and require little to no additional water to prepare comparatively.    For fire I tend to skip matches all together. Compared to all other means of starting fires they are bulky for the very limited number of fires you'll start with them. I bic lighter can start a few hundred fires and a good ferro rod can start several thousand. For my money I go with a couple bic lighters and either a Doan's magnesium/flint bar or Light My Fire brand ferro rod and striker. Go to tinder of choice is Vaseline soaked cotton balls.   In addition to the canteen kit set up I use, I also carry 100oz hydration pack bladder and a Sawyer Mini filter kit. The Sawyer can be used as a straw filter, in-line filter for the hydration bladder, as squeeze filter with the supplied water bag and/or be screwed on to standard soda bottle. It is a very versatile little unit.    I'll try to put some pics of a couple of my kits in the next few days.
  17. I've been wearing on of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Casio-Mens-G-Shock-Atomic-Solar-Watch-GW300A-1V-Black-/161145235355?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item258501279b everyday for the past 9 years and love it. Don't have to worry about the battery dying at the worst possible time. Very rugged, I can't tell you the number of times I have slammed(not bumped or banged...SLAMMED) this thing against a hard surface and just takes the abuse. Most durable and reliable watch I have ever owned!
  18. I'm scheduled to work that weekend but let me see if there is anyone I can beg or bribe to get my shift covered so I can come. Very very interested.
  19. There are two sides to every story and since Yeager cannot legally comment on the incident per the settlement with his former employer, her is a link with his account of the events that day and the events leading up to it. http://www.defensereview.com/video-iraqi-insurgentsterrorists-ambush-pmcpsc-psd-team-on-biap-road/ I don't personally know the man and don't have a dog in this fight but find it distasteful to go after people who cannot defend themselves on the matter without putting themselves in legal and financial jeopardy in doing so.
  20. Iffin you are on the move are you really going to want to try to process and carry that 70lb doe in addition to the rest of your gear? How are you planning on preserving that much meat before it goes rancid, especially in this heat and humidity? For the record...... I'm not trying to get you to "argue" the merits of the shotgun, as I personally am quite fond of them and find them to be fine weapons/tools. With that said however, experience has shown me the .22 has plenty of merits of its own and should not be discounted in a survival hunting role ...... nor should people be ridiculed or insulted simply because their opinions and life experiences differs from that of your own.
  21. I've been hunting, successfully too I might add, with a .22 rim-fire for over 20 years. Prior to hunting with a .22, I put many a squirrel, bird and rabbit on the table with just a lowly pellet rifle. Some personal observations over the years...... when still hunt squirrels(most prolific small game in my area) a single shotgun blast will send squirrels into hiding for at least a half hour or longer. A .22 on the other hand, especially when shooting standard velocity or subsonic ammo, they tend to return much quicker. Also, the more hunting pressure in a given area, the more the average engagement distance tends to increase as the animals are much more skittish and will bolt quicker and stay hidden longer. .22's are also not just for shooting stationary game either. I've taken countless squirrels, rabbits, possums, and raccoons from stand still to a dead run. Also have taken low flying waterfowl mid flight and off of ponds and waterways with .22's (as a minor unaware of illegalities of such things). The principle is not much different than wing shooting with a shotgun..... just a different lead distance. I've seen a lot of folks try to take game beyond the capable range of their shotgun with their given loads too which resulted in injured animals. Having lived and hunted in "shotgun" only deer hunting counties of eastern VA, I have taken a few deer only to find buckshot pellets lodged just beneath their hide from long shots(that have since healed) that should not have been taken. All that said, I don't dislike shotguns in any way. I enjoy shooting and hunting with them as much as I do all my other firearms. But like the .22, it is not the end all be all of the hunting(survival or recreational) world. They are simply tools that come with their own individual pro's and con's. Like was mentioned much earlier in this thread..... if it is a matter of survival, I prefer traps and snares over any gun any day of the week!
  22. Given the parameters in the original post and considering this is strictly a Wilderness Survival scenario.... I would most likely opt for a Glock 17 9mm pistol and 20" barreled .22lr for my rifle choice. If .22lr wasn't a mandatory choice in this scenario I would opt for a 16" .22WMR rifle instead personally. If the given scenario were to include a possible human hostile element, societal breakdown, WROL, etc...... I would be more inclined to choose a centerfire rifle with a .22lr handgun instead or at least include a .22lr conversion unit for the Glock. Different strokes for different folks.
  23. I attended Close Range Gunfighting this past weekend with Randy. I was all set to write a separate review here but since Paisan's review has already covered everything content wise so well, I figured I would just add my thoughts here. The only thing I can really add is to state my own personal satisfaction. Content and quality of instruction is second to none. I've heard it said that success in business can be measured by the number of satisfied repeat costumers. Well, I have previously attended an AK Armorer class he put on and this is the second "Gunfighting" class I've taken with Randy(my first was Kalashnikov Rifle Gunfighting). CRG was a great class, informative and a lot of fun too. I can guarantee you that this will most definitely not be my last class with Randy. I will be taking 0-5' Gunfighting when funds and scheduling allow. Put me down as another very satisfied customer........ again!   Jon
