  1. I grew up with my Dad telling me stories of making black powder bombs out of car parts and restoring a demil'd belt fed 50 cal in his spare time at the machine shop he worked at. I never quite lived up to that.....but I tried. Lol I did not partake in a lot of alcohol back then, maybe that was why. Or maybe his stories taught me to do crazy stuff, but not be Bubba stupid about it.

  2. This is one of the worst non-natural scenarios. It leaves everyone alive and in place with little chance of re-supply. If the EMP is widespread, then there will be no government or military help. If the military can stay intact personnel wise, it will be fending for itself, not helping out. More than likely though, a lot of the personnel will be sent home or leave on their own. They will want to get home to family. With electronics down the brass will have just as hard of a time keeping them fed as the rest of the people.

There will be waves of deaths. The first wave will be those ill and infirm that need direct medical attention or medication that they cannot get. This will be interspersed with deaths due to crime and rioting. The next wave will be more based on the struggle to secure resources. People killing people to keep or take food, water, and valued locations. The final wave will be those who die due to lack of food, water, and hygiene. There is no telling how long wave 2 and 3 will really last if the power stays off. Different areas will last longer or shorter due to population density, close food supplies, and the ability to gather, grow,  or raise more food.

At least in a far reaching and fast moving pandemic or zombie event, resources are left intact. This means for at least a while people can use vehicles, generators, and other electricity based items to move about or improve their condition. It also means that if the death rate is high, that there are many less people to fight over the resources. These items will run out eventually, but it gives survivors time to coordinate plans.

And yes, I think about these scenarios more than I probably should. Blame the Boy Scouts that taught me to "Always be prepared".

    Like this?

So educate my dumb self, What an I looking at here. A Mosin Nagant, right? Is there something special about this model? Another question, is that sling attachment normal on some models? I picked up one recently because I wanted to have one, but I was no picky about model and ended up with a Chinese model transplanted into a composite stock. I was looking more for the cheap milsurp level rifle.

As far as mine go, I have the Mosin and a Enfield. I would like to pick up a M1 Garand at some point, but I am probably spent out for a while. If I get really lucky, I will get a Dragunov at some point.

Never allow yourself to get boxed in at a stop light.

Goes back to situational awareness, though sometimes in normal traffic it might be impossible to avoid. best you can do is leave room in front of you to maneuver.

Your wife is stopped at a stop light. Cars in front and behind you. A person comes up to the window point a gun at her through the side window and says "Roll down the window or I'll shoot you". You've got a 380. Should you......

    • Roll the window down
    • Shoot him through the window.
    • Ignore him and hope he goes away
    • Or?

Where did the guy come from? Was he in one of the cars?

If he was not, best bet might be to lay on the horn. Start making a HUGE racket. Hopefully your doors  are already locked and this amount of attention will cause him to flee.

If he does not flee, look for a chance to draw your weapon if the noise is causing him to not focus on you. Then if you have a safe backstop, fire several rounds through the window.

If he was in one of the cars then chances are both cars are involved. So unless there are a lot of others around, you may not get much attention.

  7. Hate to say it, but in the past if you fooled around and did not use a gun safely and you hurt yourself, it was a painful lesson. Now it is grounds to sue the manufacturer. This is clearly a product fault, but one most of us would never encounter. Hopefully the recall does not cause a fuss for many of you. I know I do not yet have one of these, but would like to eventually.

  8. Just got a notice from AmmoFast.com. I have not used them, but I think someone around here said they had.

They have these. Might even be neat gifts and the price is pretty good.

TVA used to bushhog every two years, maybe three but has since stopped doing it.  Now they just spray the trees that get too close to their demarcation line and the line guys (separate crew) spray around the towers.  So I bushhog my own place but mainly just down the access road, the two flatter spots at the entrance and down at the bottom where I have a shooting lane/food plot.  The place is overgrown with blackberries which I am trying to battle in the areas I want clear, but so far it is a losing battle.  If I come across a DR brush mower type thing I may have to give it some consideration, there are places I would like to cut a trail but it is too steep for my small Kubota.

Guess it is cheaper to fill the ground full of chemicals than to cut the trees.

My dad bought one of those a while back to do some of the work on his land and on landscaping jobs. He loves it. I think he got it at tractor supply.

Equipment is expensive and having something you only need a few times a year is a pain. Thought of trading someone a few days hunting (or something else) to do the work with bigger equipment? Or do you not want anyone on there?

My place, it's only about 8 acres with the TVA line running the length of it and a gas line also making a v from the road.

So TVA and the gas company do your brush cleaning for you. lol Glad you did not end up as a pancake. Have you thought of putting metal roof as your walls? It might make it lighter overall.

Interesting that the guy with the least powerful weapon is in the most exposed position.

I think he made the cover versus concealment mistake. He assumes that window and roof will protect him when really it just conceals him.

  12. Yeah. It almost makes you wonder if they are orchestrating it. Maybe the "thieves" grab stuff that will profit the owners when the insurance pays. That is pure speculation. I wonder if a store's FFL can get revoked if they do not show that they attempt to avoid it happening?

I know a lady that runs a gun store and when she got hit once, she installed surveillance,  added welded bars to all the windows, and puts a lot of the best stuff away in the safe each night. She even will randomly stay a night in the store to add an extra layer of deterrent. Between her lady Smith and the stainless 12GA she keeps, people would be stupid to try.
