  1. Sounds like that will be my next purchase then. Lol
  2. We have all seen them. We know they are innocent, but someone made them UGLY. Like a car wreck we can't look away. We just hope someone will move them to a safer more loving home where they can blossom into the beautiful guns they have inside. Some may be too far gone and we just have to give them as merciful and dignified end. Let's post the UGLY guns to raise awareness of the mistreatment they receive. Maybe we can save a few from the same sad fate.
  3. I did not know they were used that much. Not bad guns. Just was wondering. I think this guy is doing it wrong?
  4. I have seen the Dragon's breath before. Did you see the video someone on here posted of the guy catching the range's grass on fire with one?
  5. MP5 +1
  6. I was looking through some info last night and came up with some things for shotguns that I had never heard of. I know most of us would know bird shot, slugs, and buckshot. We probably have even heard of beanbag, wax slugs, rubber slugs, cut shells, and dragon's breath rounds. Heck, I have even read about the compressed lead powder door breaching rounds. What I had never heard of is Pepper Blast rounds, Flash Thunder Grenade rounds, and Armor Piercing rounds. While I generally think if I am going to bring a gun to bear on someone that it is to the point of needing to be lethal, these interest me. Has anyone ever used/seen any of these? Looks like these guys specialize in this stuff: Firequest Exotic Shotgun Ammo Some of the ammo is kind of silly to me like the "12 Gauge Piranha" which is filled with "dozens of razor sharp steel tacks" and #12 shot. I think at that point, just use buckshot. Maybe it is less likely to carry through walls or something. Mostly, it is just marketing hype. I am not sure that the pepperblast rounds would be hard to make, but if it is just powder, range would be very short and could blow back toward you if the wind was right.
  7. I skimmed through most of this. one thing really sticks out. That is the fact that all the officers had to keep stressing the point that they feared for their lives, the lives of fellow officers, and the lives of bystanders. I am sure this is because they were told to in the hope to avoid idiots yelling that they over used force. In my mind if someone is shooting at officers (or anyone) then the officers have the right to return fire in as safe a manner as possible. While I have never been on either side of an encounter like this, and never hope to be, I do agree that it seems the officers do need additional range time. A weapon malfunctioning should be part of the drills they do regularly so that they know how to correct it quickly. Also, the massive amount of fire that the officers returned makes me think that they were not dealing with the stress well. I also am very surprised to see how many times officers went black on ammo. The last thing I want to do in a firefight is be the first one to run out of ammo. I would not consider 5 full mags for each AR and Mini 14 to be too much to carry with you in your vehicle. Also, I would think 3 magazines would be the minimum I would want on my belt for my service pistol. I think that the issued shotguns carrying only 4 rounds is weak also. Off the shelf Rem. 870 Tacticals hold 6 in the extended format. I was surprised to see the Mini 14 as a issued rifle. Is this common on Police forces?
  8. Totally different than the one my Mom had. Hers was red but had a carry handle at top. Plus it had a sing along microphone. I can't find any pics that look like what I remember.
  9. I bet it is a nice bag, but at $105 I would be afraid to use it. Maybe I am just a tightwad though. Plus, I think it might be a little big for the OP's desired use.
  10. Let me know if it works well. I need to get one and a pmag loader too
  11. A Heartland Firearm Furniture & Accessories, 10 Round Magazine / Grip for my Mosin Nagant. It replaces the floorplate without any modification. Still gotta run it to see how it goes.
  12. My mom had a portable 8 track "boom Box" and my aunt still had a 8 track in her Road Runner when I was a kid. She had an adapter to play cassettes in it. Everyone must have been in heaven to carry your music in the car and play it instead of the radio. I know no one ever did that with vinyl. lol BTW, I think ! remember that commercial too.
  13. I found that buying the buckets of packs from the freeze-dried food companies can be economical and provides a ready to go solution. I leave them sealed so that it improves shelf like and improves pest resistance. Plus they stack better than a bunch of packs. Something like this (just an example I saw at a decent price of $1.42 per serving): Wise Foods 60 Serving Entree only 01-160 Grab and Go Food Kit One thing to look out for though, as with all these foods, is that 60 servings is actually 13 packs. Most are four servings with a couple 8 serving packs tossed in. So if you were fixing them on the hoof and were alone, you would not get 60 meals out of it if you fixed it in the pouch as most people do. That might not be a bad thing, but just something to keep in mind. Another option I mentioned up the thread is the SOS Emergency Food. It is kinda heavy, but packs a lot of calories in a small space. Downsides are that there is no variety and without storing it in another container, it is not as pest proof. This is what I have tossed in my Get-Home-Bag. I don't have to worry about the heat in the car spoiling it. They also make water pouches that are for long term. If it takes me longer to get there than that food lasts, I figure it is REALLY bad and I can start searching abandoned vehicles and storefronts for more. Random example: LOT OF 5 3600 CALORIE EMERGENCY FOOD RATIONS SOS Like you, my biggest worry is being set to get home if things go bad and having supplies in case it takes me longer to get there. At home I can exploit the canned and other food we have in the cabinet and still leave the freeze-dried food buckets in case we have to jump and run.
  14. I wanted to go to the Woodstock they had back int he 90's, but I could not get off work. I have been to Lollapalooza and a few other mini festivals, but none seem to have reached the Woodstock level. Lollapalooza was the closest I think with big name acts, several stages and lots of crazy people. It was just one day though back when I went..
  15. Wow, I can't imagine having that much space. We might of had 75 acres between everyone around that we had permission from. I hunted for years and never saw a deer during season. Probably one reason I stopped.
  16. Another way to think is, how much less would they have been worth to the people using them to put food on the table then? Same thing could be said for all the muskets bored out to be sod buster shotguns. Converting military arms to civilian use has gone on for along time. I hate to see something chopped up, but I understand it.
  17. I envy you. I would have killed to see Hendrix. My Dad and Mom weren't even married yet. Took me a few years to come along.
  18. Yep it was. The 45 minute rendition of Whipping Post was killer. Those guys lived to perform and it showed.
  19. I saw the Allman Brothers play in Knoxville back in the 90's. Still one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Sad when we lose such groundbreaking true musicians.
  20. I was at work. We normally had no tv or radio and our internet was locked down. I did customer support and was alone in a room because the other guy that had as desk in there quit. I came off a call and noticed there was lots of hubbub on the other side of the hall. When I went over someone told me a plane hit the WTC. A guy had a tv he had brought in by coincidence to give to another guy. It got rigged up and we watched most of the rest of the day. I called my wife to see if she had seen and her work was at a stand still too. I was numb, the closest I had seen to this was watching Desert Storm on tv in high school class. It was unbelievable to see the tower collapse. I found out a little later that day a friend I had in our NC office had a niece in Manhattan at that moment. He left out to drive and get her since her parents were in OH. I understsnd that she was really lucky and was not in close proximity, but still took forever to get out so he could pick her up.
  21. I understand the money thing. I lived on ramen for years in school and during my first job. So having those free would make a big difference. I was 1/2 joking about them being so bad. And as you said, hot sauce helps anything. The real issue is that people think they last forever, but I think they really only have a 5 year shelf life (from memory, correct me if I am wrong). So if you did not rotate these out like the other food, it would end up being worthless. I keep a couple buckets of the long shelf life camping pouches around because I can store them in the garage. They are relatively pest proof and do not require a stable temp. I picked them up at a great deal, so the cost was very manageable. I also bought a few of the Coast Guard Emergency rations. They are not terribly light, but pack a lot of calories in a pack smaller than a coffee brick. That way I can keep a couple in car in case I need to make my way home on foot or get stranded somewhere I cannot walk out of. On top of that though, I do buy extra cans of things like beans and soups in case things get bad. These can be opened and eaten without cooking. Also, all the family will eat them. I try to keep rice and dried beans because they will last for a LONG time if you keep pests out of them. I hope I never end up needing 40 years of food stored up, but I like to make sure that I have plenty of time to devise a plan before having to look for more. Realistically, if something happened that kept us from growing food in the long term, 40 years is not going to be enough time to wait it out. How you prepare is all based on what you are preparing for. Do you prepare for nuclear war, a fast moving pandemic, zombies, EMP attack, solar flares, or a comet crashing into Earth. There is no way you can plan for it all.
  22. I always loved to see those queens come in when my Papaw ordered a new one.
  23. Are they edible in the first place? I don't really class them as food to begin with.
  24. At least the officer's muscle memory kicked in and he reloaded without a second thought. Sometimes even trained guys empty the mag and don't reload due to the stress and focus on the attacker.
